By far the best sushi restaurant in austin. My bf and I went here on a wim looking and were blown away by the entire experience. The quality of all of the food from the miso, to the sushi, to the cheesecake that comes with the check was all phenomenal. Highly recommended!

Delicious food. Wonderful service. My daughter had the chicken katsu and loved it! It was so much food! The cheesecake bites that came with our check were a nice treat. My daughter is already asking when can we come back!

A friend treated me to a belated birthday dinner. I picked this place out. This was mine and my friend's first time first time eating here. We both really enjoyed our food. We had gyoza for an appetizer and I had the chicken katsu dor my entrée. Yum! 😋 The service was great and I liked the decor. It was a quaint restaurant.

Such a cozy and sincere spot! I believe it’s one person making all the sushi, with the husband and wife (and possibly their son) helping serve! The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and genuine, making it such a comforting place to enjoy the food. The sushi does take a little time since it’s made by one person, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. Everything is plated together, and so yummy. Can’t wait to go back! Maru is truly a hidden gem in Austin!

The food was delicious. The Gyoza fried to perfection, the egg rolls crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the baby dumplings, petite, perfectly steamed. The stuffed mushrooms were amazing. The crispy shrimp and samari rolls were perfect. And with the check came assorted cheesecake bites, one for each of us. We really enjoyed it.

I always enjoy going here for a relaxing Japanese style meal whether it's sushi, curry, katsu don or any of the other great dishes on their menu. Sushi and nigiri sizes are generous and larger than other places that I find. Interior has retro art and decorations throughout. Atmosphere is 10/10

Maru is a family-run sushi spot tucked into Burnet Road, offering generously portioned rolls, thick sashimi, and warm service. The cozy atmosphere feels unpretentious. Great for casual dinners, catching up, or when you want solid Japanese fare without fuss.

This is a very small, cute place to get sushi. It did take roughly 30 to 40 minutes to get food BUT the sushi is some of the best the sushi was the texture of BUTTER and was honestly some of the best sushi ever.

The sushi style is classic & the portions are bigger than expected which makes the price just right. Rainbow roll had 2 pieces of fatty tuna that melted like butter in my mouth. Also ordered nigiri. Hamachi (yellow tail) & sake (salmon) both very tasty. The spicy udon noodles, was probably the best I've had. This gem of a restaurant exceeded my expectations. I happened to drive by and I wanted to check this little corner Japanese restaurant. It is ran by an elderly couple. That's it. The lady is so nice and attentive. She is the hostess, server, and cashier so you have to be patient if there are several other tables.

The Tiger Roll was REALLY good! I loved the combination of flavors. We also got the American roll. The pieces of salmon were a little too big for my taste. At the end, they gave us 3 complimentary cheese cake bites which were very good! Only issue was food took a while to arrive. Besides that, great experience, loved the atmosphere.

Great Japanese Restaurant! If you like sushi with a decent amount of fish, definitely check out this place. The fish was fresh, and we really liked the taste of the sushi rolls we ordered. We ordered the Happy Together and Geisha rolls—both were delicious. We also ordered Nabe Udon, which we really enjoyed. It had a rich chicken broth, and the portion was generous as well. Be prepared to wait, as this is a family-run business operated by a husband and wife. In my opinion, it is a good choice if you are not in a rush or extremely hungry. If so, you will have a really nice experience since the food tastes great!

Absolutely love this place! It’s a quiet tuck away spot perfect for a date night or dinner with yourself. So friendly and welcoming! The food is amazing! The Bombs that the add to some rolls were the highlight! All of it is amazing and you cannot go wrong stopping in! This is the new sushi spot for us

We were actually gonna try the new place nearby, and there was waiting, so we looked for a good place on Google. I saw lotta good reviews on this place, so we walked in. The server guy and the lady were very nice and gave us some recommendations. Nigiri pieces were huge, as you can see in the picture. The shop has its own vibe, very warm and house / home feeling kinda restaurant! Will definitely be back!!

Loved it! Authentic. Fresh, abundant and affordable. Long time neighborhood sushi restaurant on Burnet Road. Charming husband and wife team holding down the fort, making the sushi, engaging with the entire clientele with an attentive waiter taking care of us throughout. Tonight was wait-free and casual. The intimate size and generous portions combined for a truly pleasant and delicious dining experience.

It's a small family restaurant. There are various dishes, but it's traditional and modern sushi, alone more mixed. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe. Fresh fish with very nice verity. It was delicious. Also had the Snow roll, which wasn't bad at all! I will be back!

I hope everyone who loves sushi can try this place at least once in their lives. Incredibly delicious and although the price is high, so is the quality of the sushi, and I personally think it’s as great as you can go before you hit the extra fancy places. Owners are so sweet as well, and it makes you feel welcomed to be there. - Beware that it can get busy, and most evenings seem to have a capacity limit, so either reserve (if you can) or come decently early to dinner!

This is a very cute little sushi spot. We couldn't get into some of the "swankier" modern sushi places nearby, but honestly, I'm so glad we didn't. It seems to be run by an older Japanese couple, husband working primarily in the kitchen, and wife is primarily running the floor. We ordered the beef teriyaki platter to share, but I think there was some confusion, and we ended up with the bulgogi platter instead. But it was very tasty regardless. It came with miso soup, a salad, half a California roll, rice, and tempura. We also ordered edamame and gyoza and two sushi rolls: the Philadelphia and the dragon (I think). The fish was fresh, and I was impressed by the thickness of the salmon in the Philadelphia roll. They gave us little cheesecake bites with our check, and they were very yummy. The check was about $75 (before tip), and we were both satisfied. The whole vibe is intimate, and I'd recommend stopping by.

Lead by great reviews, I decided to try it. Portions are not small, but not huge either. The same piece of sushi might be significantly different in size and contents. Not cool especially if you share the roll. One of the rolls, that came with shrimp tempura inside was missing the shrimp in 3 pieces (in the middle) the shrimp felt like it was cooked 2 days ago. The eel looked and tasted awful. I always order rolls with eel at sushi restaurants and I cook it at home as well. It was not even shiny as it should be and moist. Wouldn’t eat it another time for free. None of the fish felt very fresh. Maybe I’m spoiled with almost every sushi place being great in San Francisco? Service ok Even though, we waited VERY long for our order! There was only one other single person in the restaurant. The plates they serve sushi on should be in trash long time ago. All chipped. No complimentary green tea But they give you 2 small pieces of frozen cheesecake (pretty good) Will definitely not be back

Little cheesecake A small hole in the wall style Japanese restaurant. It has decent but not exciting sushi, mostly run of the mill options. Gave the fried rice a try and was a bit disappointed, smaller shrimp, it wasn't fresh or flavorful. They do have bright spot, and it's their complimentary cheesecake. It's surprisingly good, albeit a small bite size piece. They do have hibachi options, haven't given those a try, they're a bit pricey.

Small and cozy sushi restaurant that really needs to hire more people. We made a reservation at 6:30 and the place was full but it looked like there were only two people working. It look 10minutes to get seated and then it look an hour for them to take our order, people that got seated after us got helped before we did. There was a speck floating around in my water cup. The sushi itself was good, we got the tiger roll, j-bomb (the favorite), and the rock n’ roll. the calamari wasn’t worth it for the price. Service was not good at all. I was disappointed with my experience. I was really hoping that this place would be great.

Food: we got the moon roll and the happy face roll. Both were way to large to be eaten in one bite (maki) the pieces of fish were very thick. This would be a good thing if it were the flavors were balanced. Both the large amounts of fish and rice overwhelmed whatever filling and sauces there were. The nigri: both tuna and salmon had the same problem so opted to eat them as sashimi. The spicy scallop nigiri is chopped up scallop sashimi with a small amount of spicy mayo (not small whole scallops). This was under flavored and did not account for the $1 surcharge for spicy. Other places add tobiko and chili oil to enhance the flavor. That was desperately needed here. The chicken fried rice was a cup and a half portion at full size, under flavored and a bit mushy I suspect the rice was fresh (not day old). The best item was the shrimp and veggies tempura. It was hot and the batter was satisfyingly crispy. Drinks: cold sake and water both adequate Service: we read from previous research that the wait was as long as an hour and went prepared. 20 mins to place order 20 mins for tempura 25mins for fried rice 30 mins for sushi. Total 1 hour 35 mins to receive all food. Atmosphere: hole in the wall that might have been charming if it met expectations. Price: $120 without tip. In closing don't believe the hype regarding the quality of the fish or food. The price point is actually more expensive then many high end sushi restaurants ($20 a roll) with better service, atmosphere and balanced flavors. It is mom and pop but unless you are doing a the traditional Japanese lunch or dinner sets; the value is just not there.
