Opinions de The Tavern Austin
Everything was excellent! Brandon was very nice and took great care of us while here. Plenty of food for the prices. After getting our plates, we thought we should have got one meal and split as there was so much food.
What a gem! I'm an Arsenal fan so it's crazy that right here in Austin there's a lively, old school bar for all the local Gunners. And they open early for the 8 am games. There was even a pop up store there one day to buy gear. I'm there twice a week. Great atmosphere.
Every time we're back in town we hit this place up. Bar food is amazing, every server we've had is always a blast to talk to (Ricky especially) and we're always happy with how good the vibes are from everyone at the bar. Love this place!
Stopped by to watch the Arsenal football match and enjoy lunch and a beer. Great atmosphere, awesome staff, hearty food. Fish and chips came with a great portion for the price. Highly recommended as a neighborhood Austin spot.
We went yesterday for the Arsenal (soccer) watch party. It was almost full but we were able to grab a table by the door. She got a shiner cheers for $8 and I got a beautifully poured Guinness draught stout for $8 and we started with the bar pretzels with mustard and queso. They were really good with croissant like flakes and we both really enjoyed the cheese and mustard. We were thinking of getting the stroganoff and asked the waitress what her favorite dish was and ironically she mentioned that without knowing which way we were already leaning. It was really good...the sauce, the mushrooms, the steak....mmmm. They have buckets of domestics for $15 so we got one of those as well. The service was pretty solid overall. Started a little slow to get our first order but she was stopping by every few minutes after that and was friendly and helpful. I was quite happy with the experience overall, especially considering how busy they were.
Stopped in while visiting Austin to catch the Sooners game, great call! Sahara (hope I’m spelling that right) was an absolute rockstar. Even with the place packed, she remained friendly and attentive, handling our group’s many requests like a pro. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect for game day. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!
Stopped by The Tavern with the family after a day exploring Austin, great decision. Laid back vibe, solid beer selection, and the burgers hit the spot. My daughter loved the giant pretzel, and the staff was super friendly. TVs everywhere, so I didn’t miss the game either. Classic dad win. We’ll be back.
I saw this place on YouTube as the top 10 haunted spots on Austin. I stopped in and had a draft IPA, a whiskey the bartender suggested, and some buffalo wings. They did my wings all drums which made me excited. The beer was ice cold and the whiskey did not disappoint. The wings were some of the best wings I've ever had! Bartender had a great sense of humor and the people were very friendly. Loved the atmosphere and the place was clean. If you are in the area it's definitely worth the visit. And no ghostly apparitions either, lol
This is one of Austin's historic pub experiences. The sign outside commemorates it bringing air conditioning to Austin bars. The rambling wood-paneled building is vast but intimate. There are two floors of bar and table space along with a couple upstairs patio areas. The building is now adjacent to a strip mall, providing a parking lot. It's also near an entrance to the sidewalk that runs along the creek connecting Pease Park and Lady Bird Lake.
Visiting in Austin and had the BEST experiences at this bar. The incredible history behind the location is only enhanced by the awesome service and drink selection. Amber at the bar treated us like regulars and I fell in love with The Tavern. So cool to explore and one of the coolest atmospheres I've experienced so far. Will visit again soon!
I've been wanting to visit this place for years and finally got my chance. It did not disappoint. The food is so good! I ordered the sampler plate and was able to try a big chunk of the menu that way. I almost couldn't finish it all, and I had help. Staff was friendly, and there was lots of quality conversation to be had at this place.
Great place to watch sports, enjoy a beer and have some good bar food. Whether downstairs, or upstairs this grand old tavern has several interesting sections and televisions for keeping up with a variety of sporting events. I believe there is an area where you can drink on the second floor balcony. Our food was good and well proportioned. This place has a good feel to it, like putting on a comfortable jacket, and a cordial atmosphere.
This pub is over a hundred years old! The original woodwork inside is incredibly well preserved. It's outside is in German Alpine style, you can't miss it.\n\nThere are tvs everywhere, it's a great p…

The Tavern is the best. Beef Stroganoff knocked my socks off. Shout out Maddie, best waitress in Austin.

Nathan and Jenny are amazing. Come here to see them, you will not be disappointed! ambiance is great and so are the drinks :)
The food was very delicious! The staff were very kind and fast. The environment was inviting and cozy. and the price was reasonable for the portions of the food!

Our server was an awesome guy with glasses..I totally forgot his name, but it was at least 15 of us there & kept all of us happy, drunk, & full! The location is great & they have HH from 3-6pm. Drinks are good. They have games and other entertainment also. The guys working there are friendly, but the ladies there all give me negative vibes. It won't stop me from coming back tho lol
Oddly enough, having lived in and around the Austin area (on and off) since 1991, this was my first time in The Tavern. We popped in for a late bite during the Cowboy's Thursday night game. The atmosphere was great, the food was ok and the service was also just ok. Sometimes I think that places like this, with decades of history, have a tendency to rely on their "legend" and not strive for the excellence their customers deserve.
Really enjoyed the food here. Solid tavern food and perfect for watching a game. The Tavern Trio had thick, warm chips that I appreciated since I was dipping them in queso and guacamole (hate when chips break while dipping!). The salad was delicious — the corn relish and pecan really add to the salad (I was hesitant about them thinking there would be too much on the salad; I was wrong). Would order that salad again and again.
The Tavern is an Austin staple which will never let you down. The food is excellent, especially the burgers and a big nod to the cfs. The service is good but they are a bit short staffed, and the atmosphere is is really good. It's really great to go to a place which isn't too loud to have a conversation or just watch a game. The prices are very fair for the quality of food. Of note, ask for their home made chips or sub or fries for them. They are outstanding. Also note that they keep the kitchen open nice and late.
A few friends and I headed to The Tavern for the Super Bowl Watch Party 2026. The Tavern has been an Austin icon for over a century. It has a warm pub feel with dark wood bars and lots of windows. It…

Came here cuz one of my buddies picked it out. TVs were fine to catch sports. The fries were OK. The chicken fried chicken tasted like it was fried in old oil. The chicken skin was not crispy and very bland. The bacon wrapped wings tasted old and were just not good. The bathroom had this funky off putting smell, I had to walk 3 blocks to use the bathroom at 7/11. The appetizers cost the same as the entrees, so expect to spend $40-50. I definitely would not find myself coming back here again.
We were undecided if we would go here based on reviews. Our advice is go somewhere where they are interested in serving you. Had to clear our own table, go to the bar for drinks, food never showed …
After going to the UT vs Florida game, we were looking for a place to grab some food and drinks. Saw The Tavern had some great reviews and decided to check it out. The place was packed with college football fans and the atmosphere seemed great. We ordered the nachos and the mozzarella sticks as we thought appetizers would be a safe choice with the amount of people that were inside. It took almost 45 minutes to get the food and when it came out, I thought it was a joke. The mozzarella sticks were actually amazing, but these nachos were the most ridiculous nachos I have ever seen in my life. I think Napoleon Dynamite made better nachos than what we were served. It was 3 tortillas cut in half, smeared with refried beans and sprinkled with shredded cheese. If you’re hungry, I’d recommend not coming here while they are busy. If you want beer or drinks, you’ll probably be safe at anytime here. Whatever you do, do not get the nachos, Taco Bell nachos are far superior and way cheaper than this abomination.
Stopped by on a Saturday (6/21) around 1:30pm, waited 10 minutes without seeing a waiter, tried to order at the bar, where the bartender informed me I had a server, but that the server was "busy". …
The Tavern is basically running a parking scam. Their lot is right next to Waterloo Records and looks like it’s part of the same lot, but it’s not. The signs saying it’s only for Tavern customers are tiny and easy to miss. An employee responsible for booting cars was present and visibly watched us park and walk into Waterloo without offering any warning or clarification. As soon as we entered the store, he placed a sticker on our car and booted it and charged us $100. It was clear he was waiting for us to leave the vehicle to issue the boot, rather than informing us of the restriction. He even admitted he boots a ton of cars every day because people don’t notice the signs. If we’d known or been warned, we never would’ve parked there. It feels like they’re taking advantage of visitors just to make money off unsuspecting people. Don’t come to this scamming restaurant, they take advantage of people to make extra money.
