Opinions de Tweedy's Bar Austin
One of the most genuine and unforgettable bars in Austin! Tweedy's Bar is an absolute Austin classic and the kind of place that instantly captures your heart from the very first visit. The atmosphere is wonderfully unpretentious, warm and full of that real authentic Austin character that is becoming increasingly rare to find. The drinks are well priced and generously poured and the selection covers everything you could want for a great evening out. The staff is incredibly friendly, personable and creates a welcoming environment where everyone feels like a regular from the moment they walk through the door. Whether you are stopping in for a quick drink or settling in for a long and memorable night Tweedy's Bar delivers an experience that is consistently genuine, fun and completely one of a kind. A true Austin treasure that I love and recommend wholeheartedly!
Love this place and the people
Excelente atmosphere.
This is a really great “Keep Austin Weird” spot. Great drinks, amazing live music. Free crawfish with your drink the day we went which was great. Lots of cool vegan options like pizza and bakery. Plus tattoo shop. Really great place to visit if you’re from out of town to experience old Austin.
Cute!! Indoor and outdoor seating, great a/c, good prices and friendly staff
Formerly Spiderhouse -- always loved the outdoor yard and accompanying funky vibes.
Love this place! Plenty of outdoor seating, cute retro vibes in the interior
Best bar in austin
Great vibes great drinks, hella people very austin!
Same vibe. Good neighborhood bar. Would recommend
Great alcohol icepops! Used to be the Spider House
Good ol' Spider House, now for adults only:)
Cute bar. Very chill place to hang out.
Great garden, great beer, great music.
Immaculate patio vibes
Great place to visit for a drink or two
I love twerdys
A nice update to a classic.
Ty! He is the best
Excellent coffee!
Slay 💁🏽
Strong cocktails and good specials, the water they have for people to drink from the coolers is 11/10 the best water I’ve had at a bar. Considering going back and getting another drink just so I can taste more of that water
Great place to hang out on a weekday afternoon, very relaxing, open feel to it....
I love this bar An excellent place to bring a group of ~6 friends The patio is big, there are cool string lights everywhere, and there are a handful of food options on-site It’s got the “classic Austin” feel
Love this bar! Exactly what the neighborhood needed. Amazing patio, good beer selection, tasty cocktails that won’t break the bank, and a variety of great food trucks if you get hungry. Fits the “central Austin” vibe perfectly.
I was surprised to find this place when I first got here. Good vibes, and very chill. Bartenders were friendly and I was tickled to see my tab as I'm used to getting swindled in Atlanta.
As a local of the city, I'm very happy to see this space reopened. It is currently operated by an old GM of Spider House and done very well. Very clean setup, abundance of seats and excellent ambiance. Welcome back!
My type of bar, lots of shaded outdoor seating, a cheap beer option, and a great selection of food trucks
Low key place with a great atmosphere. The coffee bar and the hot drink specials add a really nice touch.
Even though it’s not Spiderhouse, it still feels like it. A comforting little piece of old Austin. Good drinks and a chill vibe-perfect on a hot summer afternoon in ATX.
Such a cool spot, friendly bartenders & laid-back crowd.
All of the tables were in slightly different places than I remembered. And the birds? They were all being silly: beaks agape, singing songs, flying!, yes flying. So much has changed while so much remains the same. I can see why we created time to give it meaning.
Ginger is an amazing bartender & the whiskey / vodka / rum selection is excellent. I had a Mai Tai on tap that was a lot better than I was expecting. It was just rum, orgeat, lime, and curaçao the way the almighty intended.
I love this bar so much! The vibe, drink menu, bartenders, and decor are all on point. I highly recommend this spot for a date night :)
Y'all have done a FANTASTIC JOB with the place, especially the interior. Thank you for service non-alcoholic beer as well (the Lagunitas one), that's been very helpful. :)
The old Spider House has been thoughtfully updated while keeping a similarly chill and intimate vibe. I look forward to spending plenty of time here.
Tweedy's replaced the old Spider House - great place to have a cold beer and hang out - nicely shaded great outdoor space.
I love having such a cool place to hang so close to my place! The food truck and businesses in the back are rad as well.
Great dive bar. Don't come here to be seen or stand out. Nobody cares! Love this place and the vibe!
Always a great time anytime 😊 I make it a plan to stop by whenever I'm in Austin. Good prices and a very chill atmosphere. Everyone is very nice and ppl respect your space so it feels safe. I also posted some of the surrounding food truck 🚚 menus in their parking lot right in front. In fact, my favorite part is that they're open until 2 AM and the food trucks are usually open pretty late as well. Enjoy!
This place is so rad. Hot cider and mulled wine in the cooler months? Yes, please. They’ve got tea and other drinks too, and the best part—you can bring in food from the food trucks next door (mozzarella sticks and fries hit just right). The vibe inside is effortlessly cool, like the kind of spot you never want to leave. Easily my favorite hang in Austin.
Great “local” spot in west campus. It gets busy on the weekend especially when there’s live music playing. Gotta find street parking. Vibe was super chill, dress comfortable and think east Austin “hipster” scene. Easy-going crowd and good energy all around. Drinks were on point, I ordered a ranch water with salt on the rim and it was perfect. Most of the seating is outside and there’s a lot of little areas to sit in which makes the space dynamic and comfortable. We were lucky enough to make it for a live band that was a lot of fun to watch. Didn’t plan on it, but it was like hitting the jackpot. Cool spot for some patio drinks and good for groups too. Will be back!

Great college bar with a large outdoor seating area and consistently good music selection. Pretty sure I lost my ID here. 10/10. Will be going back.
Really great bar, retro atmosphere in the inside! Best music, had a live D J mixing it up!! Lots of outdoor seating, play dart, and if you're hungry, Zucchini Kill bakery is open until ten p m
The food truck there was sooo good (the Indian honey chicken w/slaw on fries, can't recall the food truck name). The first DJ was playing some really surprising and great music, and the patio had plenty of space to chill. One of the bartenders even gave us a couple of pints since the tap was out to pour a pitcher. Overall such good vibes and a much needed great evening with my buddy. <3
First of all I used to go to this place when it was Spiderhouse, since the 90s. I was really bummed out when Spider House shut down. However I was excited to hear that people from Yellow Jacket etc, open up a new place in the spot. I was even more excited when I found out that they kept a lot of its original charm. Places with history and character are disappearing in Austin very rapidly. Is very happy to see that much of the old feel of Spider House was retained in Tweedies.
I love this place. It has a great courtyard shared with Zucchini Kill Bakery and is dog friendly. There are a ton of food trucks in the parking lot next door which makes it a great spot to post up for a spell.
Wow, what a bar! Am I right? They have the most wonderful staff, and they have the biggest hearts. I particularly enjoy going here on Friday afternoons to see Olivia and Gabe, they really bring a ray of sunshine into my day when I’m fighting off the last demons of the work week (know what I’m saying?). They also have the best music there, particularly those handsome DJs they hire. I’m so glad there’s still a place in the live music capital where you can hear real life Vinyls! Another round of shoutouts for the newest members of the team Gabi . Thanks for the burger, I owe ya one 🤙🏻. Five stars.
Had a great time here on a quite afternoon. The frozen hibiscus lemonade was delicious. The music was great and the place was such a great vibe. Love the building and the repurposed statues out front. Coll patio and atmosphere.
Was recently joking with a few of the bartenders that I've been drinking at the bar since before it was that bar. Management has done a very solid job at maintaining the Spiderhouse vibe, but made the interior space more open. Overall the renovations area improvements, the patio is nearly identical, and the culture is still quality. Also, I've reliably and consistently had good experiences with every bartender here since they opened (post-COVID) and everyone is amiable and welcoming. Had lots of great conversations with other locals and regulars, and time willing and depending on season, I've spent a lot of hours here as I work in the area. I gripe, only a little, that selections can be limited and I've seen a couple things run out, but I'm picky. What they do have is a good value compared to the area, specials are solid, and the espresso is good (when I'm there at the correct time of day to have a coffee drink). Made over a decade of good memories and close friends here, and that culture is maintained in Tweedy's current iteration. The love and care are clear.

Pretty cool establishment overall. Would recommend. Should have been 5 stars but the punk rock bar tender was being rude to other people, was nice to us tho.
The hamburger food truck is mediocre, and the outside atmosphere is excellent with plenty of trees for shading.
I love a great outdoor patio and they have that in spades.
Good place for that alt vibe
Lovely venue except the bartender Christina is incredibly rude and unkind to customers.
Cozy yet intimate while relaxed - a perfect space with great vibes. Happy to see they kept the spirit of the previous spot. It however does have new Austin pricing which is unfortunate but makes sense.
Really good spot! I'm glad someone reopened it. It's a good spot for hanging out with friends, dog friendly, and a good green atmosphere with plants all over. I second that it would be nice to have more non alcoholic drinks. One downside is they tend to blare music outside on bad speakers which is aggressive and makes it hard to talk, it would be nice if it was turned down to a more background music level. But overall a great place.
Love this bar as a casual meet up place! The interior is cute and they have some pretty good drinks they offer and food trucks outside. Usually plenty of street parking too.
Went here with my son to have a Birthday drink. It was a weekday midday so we were the only customers. Im sure it gets pretty busy at nights & weekends. I ordered a mojito the girl behind the counter did not know how to make so she googled it. I've had better but whatever. The bathroom was interesting
Amazing atmosphere, food options, vibes. Would be nice to have some more non-alcoholic options like non-alc frozens. Terrible bike parking - right behind a food truck on a slope. They should install better bike parking in the parking lot behind Tweedy’s where it is flat. It’s a very bikeable area and I organize events here often and want to continue doing so!

It's a good bar with a retro feel inside. Parking nearby is difficult to find. You can usually park on the road but again it's not easy to find parking. The place has plenty of seating outside and usually has a good vibe. Ideal to celebrate birthdays with a larger group! There are many food trucks near the bar so there are good food options available.
great little bar, but will have you freezing your tail off. pretty hot inside with limited seating so it’s mostly patio space. pretty chilly out there NO HEATERS. good beer, nice folks

I’ve had my eye on the vendor markets they hold semi-frequently. I reached out to make sure it would be wheelchair accessible and got a yes but when I arrived many vendors were down steps or on platforms. I enjoyed the vendors I got to speak to and I enjoyed the atmosphere but I’m disappointed in being mislead. I wish there was some honesty about accessibility instead of it being an afterthought.
Great place, good drinks, but bartenders who are unnecessarily rude
The bartender, Ty skipped me 5 times. Very frustrating, spent like 20 minutes waiting for a beer. Colton the bar back was very friendly
The outdoor area is so great, but a couple of the bartenders have been unwelcoming on separate occasions. The lack of chill friendliness paired with the overpriced mediocre drinks warranted the rating. I’ve lived in austin forever, used to love this place when it was spider house but it’s definitely gone downhill! Prob not going back unless it’s just to enjoy the patio.
I love OG Spiderhouse vibes, and I’m grateful for having it stay alive via Tweedy’s. My friends and I try to make it out to mai tai Mondays and it’s hit or miss. The last time I visited, which was this evening 8/18/25, music varied from Talking Heads (great, easily digestible and culturally relevant) to straight noise (which made me and the remainder of our group want to leave). We waited through several songs before we did end up leaving. I want to patron this spot again but I think more customer service would go a long way! Bar seemed empty 🖤

I like tweedys except for in the colder weather I won’t go because it’s too cold. Yall need to get some heaters or something. Otherwise great atmosphere and I’ll be back when it’s warmer.
I had an appointment in the area and planned shortly after to meet up with friends at a close by restaurant. I needed to kill an hour before dinner and did a Google search for a nearby bar that had a happy hour. I decided on giving Tweedy's a try. I asked about margaritas on happy hour pricing and was advised by the bartender that it was pretty much just beer and something else that I didn't understand. Despite not being on happy hour I still ordered the large frozen. I took one sip and then told her that I hated to complain but that was just about the worst frozen margarita I've ever had. I don't even think I've ever had a bad frozen in Austin. I asked if she could replace the frozen with a rocks margarita instead and she didn't really answer. She then brought me this tiny little glass of rocks margarita in replacement for the large that I had already paid for. I quizzed her if that was a large rocks and never got a straight answer. Instead just nonsensical noise about I don't know what. Like the margarita, she too was a disappointment. She's not a good communicator or an outgoing happy person like most good bartenders. At this point I was pretty well done with this place and wrote off my wasted $12 on a bad lesson learned. I certainly won't return and can't possibly recommend this place
Emo male bartender was extremely rude and ugly to customers. Ruined the experience and won’t be back.
Staff is immensely unkind
As service
Bartender said they have lone star on draft. Gave me a lone star bottle. Had to pay for the bottle. Did not want bottle
Love this place visit all the time but the older male bartender was so rude ruined my entire experience if you see him find someone else to drink
I asked to use the bathroom and the bartender paused looked at me and straight up lied to me saying they don’t have a bathroom. (Definitely racist vibes).
Service needs to get better. The old bartender with a five o clock shadow refused to take our order at the outside ordering area until we waited 15 min +. When he did come up and l asked if we could order here he said "there are menus here right?" He was very rude. It sucks because the ambiance of this bar is great but he ruined the experience. I hope they can move on from him. Everyone else here was youthful but he was terrible and did not fit the vibe at all. When leaving, we saw him talking to some patrons negatively about customers. Definitely not someone you would like working at a bar. I would ve liked to order more drinks but the experience caused by him made my entire group uneasy. Edit: I see he has been complained about quite a bit before (Ty) but ownership hasn’t done anything. It’s a shame because without him, this would be my favorite bar in the area.
Unfortunately, this was a horrible experience. In particular, I had an issue with a female bartender working the night shift on Saturday, 5/10/25. My friend had been patiently standing in line, but the bartender seemed to only be serving white patrons. When I politely stepped in to order two drinks—one for myself and one for my friend who had been waiting—she immediately got defensive and started yelling that she was busy. I calmly explained that my friend had been ignored for a while and that I was simply trying to place an order for both of us. Instead of listening, she gaslighted me, claiming I was yelling, which was absolutely not the case. I’m gay, and I pride myself on clear, respectful communication. I made that known and explained myself calmly, after which she eventually served me. The entire encounter was completely unnecessary and, honestly, traumatic. It was a celebratory night—a graduation crowd—where everyone just wanted to have a good time. I understand the stress of a busy shift, but treating customers with attitude and bias isn’t acceptable. If this continues, it could really impact business.
Brown/blonde-haired, female bartender. Terrible attitude. Terrible service. Do not recommend. Another patron and I were engaging in a joking activity and thought she understood enough to police. No fun allowed at the venue. Will not return until she’s gone.
The older guys who work here have terrible attitudes. And keep trying to sneak things onto your tab. Very rude especially to Brown women unfortunately :( it's sad because most of us can tell how we will be treated by who is behind the bar that day. And everytime the prediction is correct.
one of the bartender’s was so rude and ruined my experience! very disappointed :/
I was going to start to be a regular customer because it’s nice it has a tattoo place and a bakery place and they have nice frozen drinks but JUST GOING TO LEAVE THAT OUT THERE, IF YOURE NOT A Certain RACE, DONT COME. I would leave them tips and such, and for some reason today I don’t know why I got ignored over CERTAIN customer base. I gave up waiting to be served but other people got service right away. PS. I never write reviews, this one had to happened I was upfront even said “excuse me” I don’t know what I did wrong. I don’t like putting people in the spot that’s why the photo is blurry. (FYI) maybe I really did something to offend them I don’t know to get ignored even when I said “excuse me” and two ignored me maybe they didn’t hear me even tho they looked at me but I don’t know maybe being Puertorrican I should learn where to hangout

DO NOT GO HERE OR AT LEAST BE AWARE OF SCAMS… It is such a shame that this place has such terrible service given that the atmosphere is so incredibly nice… this place had great potential. First I would like to start off by saying that the blonde/brown haired female bartender has the world’s shittiest attitude and has tried to scam my friends and I twice already by lying about our tabs being closed. She starts off by greeting us with rude and snarky comments (both visits) and then when I told her I wanted a closed tab she says assures me that she closed it but failed to provide me with a receipt to sign. The reason I was already skeptical was because she said the same thing to me last week and I found out that she was lying. I went up to the other female bartender (who was incredibly kind btw) and I was told that my tab was in fact not closed. When the same thing happened this past visit, she had the nerve to lie to our faces yet again until the other bartender told us our tabs weren’t yet closed. After hearing this she tried to save herself by saying the computer wasn’t working. You can’t scam people and treat them so horribly at the same time, it doesn’t work like that. It’s so obvious what you’re trying to do, it’s ugly and it’s embarrassing. Save yourself the time and energy by avoiding this place. Based on reviews, she’s not the only bartender that does this and/or adds more drinks onto people’s tabs. A lot of the negative reviews have also claimed feeling racist energy from the workers and tbh the only friends of mine that haven’t experienced something similar here have been white so I believe it. Regardless of skin color, beware and make sure you sign that receipt before leaving!
I was very disappointed with the service we received, specifically from the bartender. While I understand that everyone can have an off day, the bar was not busy, and the interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. I believe guests should be treated with courtesy and respect, especially before they’ve even had the chance to be properly served. So unfortunate because the atmosphere was nice, but the bartender was seriously rude. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I value good service and simply wanted a positive experience.
