Great neighborhood bar. Packed at 2pm on Sat. afternoon with locals. Food looked great. Bartender was fast, attentive, and friendly. Loved the atmosphere and vibe here--kind of like a dive bar but just a little too nice to fit that category. I came in to take a break from packing my house for a move and so a drink here really fit the bill. I love this neighborhood. Parking sux, bit hey, welcome to Austin--it's only a block to easy street parking. Thank you Workhorse for making my day!

Workhorse serves up a nice burger. We call it a THIC buddie. So juicy and you get all the flame flavor. I wish the bacon had more to offer but it came out amazing now the less and ready to be dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pickles.

This is the neighborhood bar I wish my neighborhood had. Better beer selection than most bars. They had 2 Pinthouse IPAs: Jellyfish and Seasonal—that alone was great. This place has some caveats in terms of limited parking (get some exercise walking from nearby street parking), and its neighborhood bar vibe. This is to say, the whole bar, food and drinks, is excellent, but you go to a neighborhood bar to mingle. And they don’t disappoint. As long as you’re open-minded and relatively decent at small talk, the locals essentially welcomed me to their bar, and were more inviting than many of my neighbors. It is a bit cramped, so get their early. The bartenders were easy-going, talkative, and happy to recommend drinks or food, or talk about the latest movie. I’ll be back with the wife.

Loved this hidden gem! It seemed like a neighborhood hangout. It was an interesting crowd, drinks were good and affordable and the food was fresh and delicious. We are going back with more friends.

Drinking at the tigress but want to get some food and cheaper drinks? Walk next door to the Workhorse! The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is good, so why aren’t ya here yet if ya want good food and reasonable drinks. The food was delicious, I personally had the grilled chicken and my date had the workhorse veggie. The grilled chicken was great, they didn’t skimp on the avocado and it was a good size to sober you up after drinking all day. , the jalapeño cream corn was AMAZING, perfectly mixed with a hint of spice that even those that can’t handle spice could enjoy. My date seemed to really enjoy her meal and I snagged a few sweet potato fries and they’re as good as any, nothing special but meet your expectations for fries. The drinks were solid as well, not as good as tigress obviously but still solid. The racehorse shots were sweet and bitter, the NoLo Paloma was AMAZING, I got the lazy pony and had to admit the NoLo was better, probably the best drink I tried at workhorse. The drinks are surprisingly good for the price! Overall if ya want to drink, a veggie friendly bar food option or just want good food in general this spot is perfect. If you’re in the neighborhood I highly recommend ya check this spot out!

Good food at a decent price. Rustic chic vibe. Good cocktails and a huge beer selection. I sat at the bar and had the grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and goat cheese with a side of Parmesan fries. Had an old fashioned. Really delicious quality food.

My mom and I decided to stop in for lunch when we visited Austin. We usually prefer to eat local as opposed to chains. Both of our meals were very good. My bacon cheeseburger with parmesan fries was very good. The burger was seasoned well and cooked properly. I would have awarded five stars, but gave four because the inside was uncomfortably cold. It was a thirty degree January day, but there's no reason the inside of a business establishment should feel like a walk-in refrigerator. Otherwise the food and staff were great. I will be back in the future. Cheers to the cooks!

Food is great place is great its just kind of weird that every time I ask for the service industry discount I get laughed at or silently denied it when I serve about 1000 customers coffee every day at the coffee shop I work at. I will still go after work but I wont ask anymore cause it seems too much of a trouble for the bartenders. I deal with a lot of the stuff they deal with day to day just sucks to see :/ I really appreciate everything else about the spot though.

Would love to leave 0 stars but have to leave one. Came in with friends and ordered a round of 4 shots (reference is the one on the left). Bartender got mad about to the tip left so my friend ordered another round (SAME shot but the one on the right). The bartender shown intentionally made them with practically only Tabasco. Trash service, dingy bar and honestly don’t recommend if you actually want to have a good time (unless the guy in the picture isn’t working maybe it’s better).

Hopeless Equestrian

We have been here 2 times, first time was good second time not so much. We ordered burgers and margaritas. And when our burgers were brought to us I asked about our drinks and she said “oh ya they are up there” so I walked to the bar to get them and when I asked the bar tender who was sitting on a stool watching tv he said ya they are ours but he needed to check my ID. So I gave him mine and he inspected it with his blue flash light for about 20 seconds (it was also day time and I’m almost 40 years old) then he said he needed to see my girlfriends ID too so I had to walk back to the patio to get hers and he did the same thing, inspected it closely with the flash light. Neither of us are even close to being under 21. I get checking IDs and if you want to go by the book, sure check IDs. But why do it after we ordered the drinks and paid for them and they were already made and sat there for 10 mins. By the time we got our drinks all the salt slid in the glass and they tasted like salt water and there was also a pepper seed in mine. It seemed like the bar tender had a grudge against me for some reason and wanted to give me a hard time making me go back and forth and bring him our IDs after the alcohol was already sold to us. He could have asked for our IDs when we were both at the counter ordering. Poor, unfriendly and unwelcoming service. Won’t be going back.
