Opinions de The Tarratine Bangor
WOW!!!! My husband and I dined there for our anniversary and it was perfect from the beginning to end. I didn't want it to end! From the very sweet valet gentleman to the host, our amazing server Hudson. The drinks were delicious, the food melted in my mouth. I highly recommend this place!! The atmosphere was so wonderful to celebrate this special day with my husband. Thank you all
Historic explorable building. Excellent entrees. Ordered the popular crab cakes, small but delicious portion. Fennel crusted halibut divine. Special was the surf & turf, absolutely fresh & tasty. Yum blueberry pie. Almond cake was a tad too much almond but overall enjoyable afternoon. Service is simply terrific. A definite must try in Bangor. Support local.
On business in Bangor. Couldn’t stay at my usual hotel because of influx of tourists and music lovers so I also branched out for dinner. Lovely place! Booked reservation for 1 on Open Table in the bar. Seated immediately when I arrived! Jillyan (sp?) was the bartender and my delightful waitress. Quiet and relaxing, exposed brick and great ambiance. Online reviews rave about the scallops so I had to try them - THE most amazing scallops atop a corn/leek/pork belly risotto. I stopped early so I could have the berry cobbler (and take home my entree). Cobbler wasn’t too sweet and it’s that time of year - little blueberries from Maine!! Tasty experience. My only complaint is the bar stool; it had a back but it was still uncomfortable.
I can't say enough about my experience with the Tarratine. My best friend was proposed to on the rooftop and then four of us celebrated at a cozy table by the fireplace. The staff knew ahead of time and they assisted us superbly. They took care of our every need. Dinner and drinks were absolutely excellent. The Tarratine made it a very special evening and we can't thank them enough.
We were given a gift card to The Tarratine in Bangor for our wedding & we FINALLY used it tonight, & what a treat it was! We can’t say enough good things about our experience! The building is absolutely gorgeous, all of the staff were lovely, the service was excellent, & the food & cocktails were delicious. We will certainly be back!
They had a surf n turf special the other day. Insanely good. Pricey so we only go for our anniversary, but it always feels like a special occasion.
Dined at The Tarratine approximately 4 times now, and each time it has not disappointed! Amazing, kind, and detail-oriented staff, supremely-talented Chef. Delicious meals, variety of choices. Will definitely return!
Attended a wedding Saturday afternoon following into the evening, the help was impeccable, the dinner was delicious and lacking nothing! Decor for Christmas was unforgettable and really added to the wedding festivities! If you want an memorable experience this is the place to choose.
They can even make vegetarian look and taste good! Family of 3 and everyone was happy. I’m a bit of crème brûlée purist so I think they could add a non-flavored option.
Amazing place with amazing people! I called to book a reservation for my boyfriend’s surprise bday dinner and it turned out more than great! I asked if we can be in a private area and they accommodated! I asked if I can bring a cake in and have it be a surprise when we’re finished with dinner and they did it! The food was excellent, service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was magical! After dinner we went to the game room and played billiards! Really a unique but fantastic experience! Will definitely go here again!
Wow! What a wonderful place to eat with an outstanding atmosphere and food that is truly artistic and delicious.
Beautiful club turned restaurant with a rich history. The wait and host staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was so delicious!! I got the lamb (see picture) and my husband got the filet and crème brûlée. Despite the incredible dining experience, the most memorable part was exploring the rest of the building, playing games like shuffleboard & billiards, and having drinks on the rooftop while enjoying the view of Bangor. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting!
Hands down one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have had in Maine! All dishes were cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable 👌🏼
We had our rehearsal dinner here- the building and rooms are beautiful and the rooftop is gorgeous! The service and food were great! Moderately pricey menu but worth it! Had I known how awesome this venue was we would’ve just had our small wedding there! Thanks for all your care and accommodations- with love, the newlyweds, Jim and Monica
BEST CRAB CAKES WE’VE EVER HAD!!! Such a lovely restaurant! Amazing food, great service and beautiful dining room. Would recommend to anyone.
Satisfied our Saturday dinner here. A nice fine dining! It was great. I am so glad to have them in Bangor.
We went here for our first date night since our baby was born and it was perfect! It was gorgeous! Food was delicious and service was A+++! We will definitely be back.
Definitely going back ! Chicken and waffles for brunch was the best I've ever had. Very attentive staff and great brunch music
A nice evening spent on the rooftop with cocktails. Friendly bartenders, delicious drinks!!
Great food and atmosphere with some local history.
So elegant and comfortable. The interior is rich in history and very tastfully decorated. 100 thumbs up!!!
Perhaps the best overall dining experience in Bangor. Great staff, great food, stunning atmosphere! A great place to celebrate!
Very elegant place. Not so expensive neither I was hoping to leave with a 250$ bill. Very surprised how beautiful and delicious everything tasted
Wow. Been here for awhile been a few times but tonight was just spectacular. You can’t go wrong with scallops. We all had fish and it was so good. Cocktails were fun and refreshing. So many little places to hang out and enjoy. The almond cake for dessert was like nothing I’ve ever had. Deelish. This is a unique place. Wonderful!
Five stars in every way! It was such a delight— a beautiful environment that was both upscale and mellow. The food was amazing! I had the braised pork and it was cooked to perfection. The ambiance was terrific. I cannot imagine having enjoyed my evening more! Great drinks, too. I can’t wait to go back. Thank you so much.
I had a wonderful date here. The food was phenomenal. Hudson was a fantastic server, I look forward to seeing him again.
The Food and service never disappoints! So beautifully decorated with great atmosphere.
Absolutely amazing experience! We stayed next door at the inn and decided to give their restaurant a go. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was stellar and quite attentive at every level. The menu is short, but everything we had (ricotta bruschetta, falafel waffle, scallop risotto, almond cake, apple crisp, and a variety of margaritas) was sumptuous. The building is beautifully restored and made for a dynamic dining atmosphere. We took a little time afterwards to tour the upstairs levels and played a bit in the game room. Overall loved it and would happily return.
Great staff. Special vibe. Fantastic comfort foods.
We had our wedding reception here last night, the staff at the Tarratine helped make it an absolutely magical time. Very little planning/oversight was needed on our part, we just told Rebecca our theme and colors and she went above and beyond to make sure everything looked incredible. Shawn and McKayla (may be spelling their names wrong, if so sorry!) were incredibly helpful, kind, and accommodating, and were a big part of making the night run smoothly. I can’t thank this crew enough for helping to make our night special. Oh, and the food was AMAZING.
The Tarratine holds a very special place in my heart. I was first introduced to it in 2018 for a Company party and have continued to go there for date nights. They even helped me coordinate proposing to my now wife on a Valentines Day by reserving a room all to ourselves for the moment and even took photos of the moment.
A true and delightful surprise nestled within the bricks of downtown Bangor. The duck was beautifully prepared—perfectly cooked, richly flavored, and thoughtfully presented. The charcuterie board was equally refined, carefully curated with excellent balance and attention to detail. The atmosphere is warm and understated, creating an experience that feels both intimate and intentional. Service was polished, attentive, and unhurried, allowing the meal to unfold naturally. Tarratine offers an elevated dining experience that feels special without being overstated—an unexpected gem that quietly exceeds expectations.
We had our first visit last night, and couldn’t have been happier or more impressed. Everything from the young man who offered their free concierge service for parking, to the same young man who gave me directions to the washroom at the end of our dinner - it’s a class act, from start to finish. We loved the delicious cocktails and the fantastic dinners, and everything was wonderful.
Very cool experience, it was not busy and the food was delicious. Everyone was very nice, especially the valet. He was incredibly welcoming. They also had great drinks, it was a nice place to spend our anniversary
This is my family’s favorite restaurant. We go frequently and bring our toddler and baby and everyone is so gracious and kind. The service is always impeccable. The food is divine. The atmosphere is romantic and we always leave feeling refreshed and grateful to have a lovely spot like this in Bangor.
Such an amazing story about this history rich social club turned restaurant...including the prohibition era liquor lockers upstairs. The calamari was really unique with pickled onions and greek olives; scallops with corn-risotto was off the charts. If you're in Bangor, go! If your near Bangor, make a trip over!
I arranged a surprise birthday celebration with the staff for my wife and they went overboard to make it happen perfectly. I particularly want to mention our server, Thea. She is the most courteous, attentive server ever. She is a gem. Drinks, dinner, dessert and service was top notch and the surroundings made it a memorable evening for my lovely wife. Thank you for going the extra mile for us…we will definitely be back!
My husband and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary there on Friday evening, October 3. It would be downright unkind of us to keep our experience to ourselves! Simply put: we had one of the best, most wonderful, most superlative, most delightful experiences of our entire marriage. And it was all due to the simplicity of skill, welcome, beauty, grace and spirit of those who touched our experience: Maizie S., Makayla H. , Amanda F., Hudson B. and Zander P. Let me take a few minutes and share. :) Our server was Maizie S. Maizie shined with a gentle radiance. She knew her stuff and she guided with the deft hand of one who has no other goal except to leave her diners happier than they were when they arrived. Perhaps Maizie should be advising global leaders. We’d do quite well if she did. But she was not the first person we met. It was Amanda F. who greeted us and other diners at the door. Amanda’s ways made me comfortable immediately and she followed up with her comfort-bringing ways throughout our evening. If ever you have occasion to hear her voice, listen for the sounds of harmony. Really. :) Meanwhile, Zander P., without knowing we had already been greeted so warmly by Amanda also greeted us. He demonstrated how one can be quietly elegant. Zander’s smile could guide ships in the night. His work ethic, like Maizie’s diplomacy, could guide world leaders. Then I had my martini. Martini’s are ubiquitous but good martini’s are elite. Makayla H. made our drinks. Our drinks were elite. I watched her and learned. The thing is, I, too, am a bartender and server. And now I’m a better bartender and server. The balance of spirits to water was deft. The twist added noticable fragrance and carried each sip past sharp into smooth. Makayla also sent us a complimentary beverage that she created. I was smiling so hard I never asked what it was! It was in a cordial glass and topped with whipped cream. The mouth-feel was silken; the drink itself had a casual tang that interacted with the cream as if they were one. And Makayla’s countenance was a bridge into joy. We were so fortunate because we also met Hudson B.—statuesque, wearing white, helping others. He was quite angelic but like the biblical Angels who are also warriors. In my mind, I believe he understands how to be gentle with power, yet fiercely dedicated to excellent. He was a service warrior if ever there was one. That night all three floors were open for exploration. We have to come back because we were so enchanted with our meal, we never left to go explore! If you read all of this, then I thank you. Our experience was worth this effort.
Our group had a thoroughly enjoyable experience at The Tarratine. The blend of refined ambiance, excellent service, delicious cocktails, and decadent desserts made for a perfect evening—and one we’d happily repeat. Highly recommended for celebrations or a truly elevated night out in Bangor.
Professional and warm environment right from the start. The food and drinks were fantastic. I got one of their signature cocktails as well as the charcuterie board; Both fresh and hit the spot. The bartender, Jillyan, was incredibly kind and I did not feel rushed or forgotten the entire time. Had a wonderful evening at the Tarratine - thank you!
For a place of this size it is so impressive how the staff handles running it! Delicious food and drinks where you can tell they were made with love! You can really feel the classiness of the whole place so it was a lovely fine-dining experience!
We love dining at the Tarratine! We had the duck and the scallops with mushroom risotto…both were excellent. Followed up with dessert: raspberry crème brûlée and flourless chocolate torte. Yum! Excellent service!
Food: 4.5/5, Scallops: Perfectly seared, tender and juicy, could have used a bit more spice or flavor, but overall really nice. Micro greens were good and the tomatoes were very flavorful. Delicious 5/5, Bread: Toasted perfectly, not too hard, but a little crisp and warm. Butter was warm too, perfect for spreading. Bread had a nice flavor 5/5, Pork: Love the blend of potato and squash. Pork is pretty good, especially with the coating. I really enjoyed the bacon jam too., Asparagus is cooked perfectly and not too stringy, I like the little crisp to them, great job. I'll definitely get it again next time I'm there. 2/5, Strawberry shortcake: I knew I was taking a chance getting a biscuit version of a strawberry shortcake, but I really wasn't a fan of it. Overall, I felt it was all rather lacking in flavor. Biscuits were good, but would have enjoyed them covered in sausage gravy instead, and they were a tad dry it seemed. Strawberries and whipped cream were bland. It would be great if I saw biscuits and sausage gravy on their brunch menu one day! Service: 5/5, Staff were super friendly and attentive and gave great suggestions. Atmosphere: 5/5, Did the self tour, would be absolutely amazing place for a "murder mystery dinner...". Lovely building. Quiet dining too. I hate loud restaurants, but it wasn't loud at all, perfect! 7/7/2023: I really love the view up on the roof, but the tables/chairs are very low and the railing is very high and block the view. Perhaps adding high top tables to the corner with the good views would be good. :)
Love this place. Have been here many times. Hit or miss on certain dishes but the scallops were absolute perfection! Service and staff are always amazing. The bar area is my favorite place to dine. Such a wonderful, cozy room.
Great place to visit with a lot of history, too. Excellent service and atmosphere. The entree options are a bit limited but I would say that none of them would disappoint. I can personally suggest the rack of lamb with pistachio crust and roasted tomato. Wonderful! We will visit again.
Had a really lovely holiday meal there the other night w some friends of ours from out of town whom we’d really talked the place up to, but unfortunately even in the multiple phone calls we had re our reservation w the manager she failed to mention that there was a big wedding happening there as well that night and all the upstairs, game rooms, lounge, etc would be off limits. Pretty disappointing as that was half the reason we went there at all. Food and the service otherwise were nice there as usual though.
I went for my birthday for the first time since moving to the area. I ordered an old-fashioned and it showed up on the rocks glass half full! That should be addressed, we’re adults if you pay $15 for a drink you would like your glass full lol. It won’t stop me from going back, but I won’t pay for an overpriced drink. Throw a little extra ice and a little club soda on that old-fashioned to fill up the glass please. The presentation was very stingy, but the price isn’t stingy so what’s the point just to rip off the consumer? The steak was the best that I’ve had in the area so far. That’s why I’m giving it a 3 star as far as the cocktails I’m not seeing it, a half filled old-fashioned, and my friend ordered wine and there was barely an eighth of a glass. We just kind of looked at each other, disappointed. Such a simple thing can ruin an evening out. Perhaps buying the bottle, might be cheaper? I don’t understand why Restaurants try to price Gouge the customer. The decor Is nice and welcoming Just stingy on the cocktails.
My husband and I were so excited to try the food here, and unfortunately we were greatly disappointed. The service was wonderful, but the food left much to be desired. We will explore other options for now.
If you want an excellent place to have drinks this is the place for you. If you were expecting the $40 Halibut to taste like seafood sawdust, this is also the place for you.
This a beautiful restaurant with poor management and worse service. My wife and I saw our server run up and down three floors to serve countless tables. That equaled terrible service for us as we had to ask for water 3 times to get any water, we requested pepper for our wedge salad that we never received, and I asked for a beer that was an afterthought until our server realized she forgot and asked if I still wanted that beer. My wife was forced to look at 4 dirty tables that were not cleared of old food and drinks for the 2 hours we dined at this restaurant. Our wedge salad was dry with not a single piece of blue cheese and almost no bacon. My halibut was as overcooked and dry as an old boot under the desert sun. My wife ordered an espresso martini which contained no espresso and tasted of simply of Disarono and milk. It tasted more like a nutty Irishman than an espresso martini. This restaurant needs to improve its management and food quality.
