Opinions de Monumental Barcelona
Monumental is a historic bullring in Barcelona, known for its striking architecture and cultural significance. Built in 1914, it showcases a beautiful blend of neo-Mudéjar and Byzantine styles. Although bullfighting has been banned, the structure still stands as an impressive landmark. The intricate mosaics and arched designs on the exterior immediately hint at its past as a vibrant cultural hub. Stepping inside, you can easily imagine the excitement that once filled the arena, with its vast seating areas surrounding the central ring. Today, Monumental hosts events and concerts, but it remains a fascinating site for history enthusiasts. Standing at the crossroads of old and modern Barcelona, it offers a glimpse into the city’s rich past.
Disused bullfighting arena, closed since it was made illegal (😀) It was closed to the public when we visited in Feb but there are public ticketed events held there occasionally. Looks very impressive from the outside though, you can imagine the bustling crowds and busy ticket office in its day.
A historic place of a recently abolished tradition. Built in the early 20th century, this arena gives you an idea how it felt to face a bull in the ring. You can walk through all the seats, walk into the arena, you can even walk into the dark chambers where they held the bulls for days before a fight. The strong metal doors still show the scratches of angry bulls, and the occasional splatter of manure attesting to their last moments on this earth. There is a small but neat museum as well, that shows the costumes of the bullfighters, some of which they died with, the weapons and some mounted heads of the most notable bulls fought, as well as a bunch of posters which were plastered around the city to advertise the event.
We came here for a music festival called “Fargo - Indie is not dead”. The venue is fantastic, as its a old bull ring, the vibe of the place is very different & cool. Something I particularly liked is how there was never a queue for the toilets (often at music festivals this can be a problem) and there was many bars around the venue so we did not have to queue a lot. The only downside was the bar drinks, the mixers (combinados) are out of bottles so often they tasted flat & like water - for the price of a combinado (10 Euro) it would be nice to have a fizzy drink!
We were waiting to go inside the Sagrada Familia and we so it on the map. At first I thought it will not be so cool but for me it was. I was happy to learn about Spanish culture and to see so many bulls. I was also sad for this but glad it's no longer exist. And also go to see the bull that was forgiven for his bravery. My heart was full when I left. It's an amazing place to learn history. The price is also cheap, especially because maybe it will be your only time in Barcelona and you should see as much as you can. The lady working there was a sweetheart. The toilets, so clean. And the museum so awesome
Visited during our stay in Barcelona and was a real hidden gem. Lovely building stood in time, with lots of old memorabilia and the stadium exactly as it was. Price was affordable to go in and from the outside you would never guess it was a bull fighting ring. Fantastic place and definitely worth a visit if you are in Barcelona.
Despite its brutal past, the building itself is very pretty. There is a small museum here and you are able to walk around almost all of the building, through the corridors, stands and even some of the back rooms. The entry fee is also very reasonable. This might not be one of the top sites in Barcelona but I'd definitely recommend visiting if you have time.
Walked past this during our day in Barcelona. Very impressive on the outside. Doesn't look as lovely as Seville's. But its definitely worth checking out, I believe they do tours as well.
Not a bad place to check out if you have an interest in something that used to be such a major part of the city's culture. The entrance is a bit tricky to find, just walk around the whole building and eventually you'll find a small open gate with a small booth to collect your money. For €8 per person, it's a decent place to spend an hour. Would have given the place 5 stars if the place had an option to book a guided tour so that someone could explain the different parts of the bullring and how it used to function. We end up needing to use wiki and Google translate to be our tour guide and translate some of the exhibits in the museum. And also couldn't give it 5 stars due to the souvenir shop being very expensive, like a simple T-shirt with a bull emblem for €100!
Monumental is a hidden gem! Once a bustling bullring, it now hosts the occasional concert. Sure, the ticket price for the tiny museum might be a bit high, but the stunning architecture makes it worth it. Hardly anyone was there when we visited, so we snagged some epic photos! If you’re into unique photo ops, this place is a must-visit!
I do recommend to visit this place. I don't like the history of it, but it is part of there culture. It's really impressive, I 'enjoyed' it. The entrance ticket is 6 euro's per person and you can walk around by yourself and it includes the small museum. The ladies working there did not speak English but with hand and foot work you will survive. (You only have to say how many tickets and if you pay by cash or card.) BE AWARE: The openings time said 10 am, but when I arrived at 10.30 am they opend the gate in front of me so make sure to always come at least 30 minutes 'late' to be early. It was not busy at all (August 2, 2023).
I was a bit disappointed, as there wasn’t much to see inside. It would be nice if there were models or displays of fighters in the center of the arena to help recreate the atmosphere of its history. Even something simple, like simulated sounds of the crowd cheering, applause, or the bull, would make the visit more engaging and bring the building’s past to life.
There is only an abandoned location, this place needs some upgrades, such as bull and man sculptures, to show visitors what Extreme Pamplona looks like. The lady who welcomed me at the gate is very professional and very respectful. While she is the only person I saw in this huge building as a staff. The entrance fee is 6 euros per adult.
