Opinions de Jesse James Foods Batesville
A breakfast burrito that rides the rails straight into legend. Some meals feed you. Others announce themselves—plant a flag in your memory and refuse to leave. Jesse James Foods, a train-car restaurant tucked into Batesville, Arkansas, does the latter with the confidence of a place that knows exactly who it is and what it’s doing. I arrived from Austin with the quiet skepticism of someone who’s eaten well and often. I left recalibrated. The stage is already set the moment you step inside: a railcar theme reborn as a diner, humming with the kind of honest energy that only comes from food made by people who care. And at the center of it all is Jesse himself—part conductor, part craftsman, wholly in command of his kitchen. I ordered two takeout breakfast burritos (mom in hospital) that could not have been more different in temperament yet equally accomplished in execution: the Ghost Aioli Ham Breakfast Burrito and the Sausage Breakfast Burrito. Let’s talk about the ghost pepper first—because Jesse did. Knowing my Texas background and my respect (and caution) for ghost pepper heat, he paused. He explained. He offered a taste, not as a dare, but as an assurance. That confidence was earned. The ghost aioli, when paired with the ham, is a masterclass in restraint. The heat is real—but it’s civilized. The richness of the ham tempers the ghost pepper’s fire into something warm, aromatic, and deeply satisfying rather than aggressive. It doesn’t shout; it hums. Of the two burritos, it was the clear favorite—layered, bold, and balanced in a way that tells you this wasn’t an accident. This was thought through. The sausage burrito, meanwhile, is comfort done right. Savory, grounded, and generous without being heavy. It’s the kind of breakfast that steadies you for the day ahead. And then there’s the detail that separates good from great: a proper crispy hash brown aside the burrito. Not limp. Not steamed into submission. Crispy. Structural. Intentional. It adds texture, contrast, and proof that Jesse understands breakfast at a fundamental level. Service matters, and here it shines. Jesse and his staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely proud of what they’re serving—because they should be. There’s no pretense here, just hospitality backed by skill. Jesse James Foods isn’t just a stop. It’s a destination. If you’re anywhere near Batesville, you owe it to yourself to climb aboard. This is a must-try—and a reminder that some of the best food in America isn’t found in big cities, but in railcars run by people who care enough to get every detail right. - M. Brown
We like different and unique places to eat at. Jesse James fit that mold. FANTASTIC food, service, And Hometown atmosphere. Traveled 1.5 hours to eat here. And we will do it again. Great way to spend our anniversary lunch. ❤️ Thank you! Go and you won't regret it. We got a waffle breakfast sandwich and the special for the day, crabcake burger with sweet potato fries. 😋 😋 😋
Jesse James + his sous chef create magic. I got the Cajun boudin omlette and had them add some caramelized onions on top. It was delicious. As someone who craves flavor and creativity in food, this was a great option. His menu is full of yummy options. So if you have passed his spot and not dined in yet, go soon! Or if its been a while since you last ate there, go try something new!
Amazing every time. Got the meal deal and fiance got the ghost bird. 10/10
The burger made from locally sourced beef was juicy and cooked to perfection and placed on a fresh bun! The fries are cooked in tallow, which gives them a rich flavor you don't find just anywhere! Service was incredible, friendly and fast. I LOVED the diner atmosphere, where you can chat with other customers.
Awesome place for real local food. Add a fried egg to any of their burgers and you won't be disappointed. Fries were done in tallow. Beef is local. Rosemary aioli was on point. Organic real maple syrup on every table. Perfect lunch in a cute train car with an old time diner feel.
I was fortunate enough to watch Jesse cook the food right in front of me. I came in hungry, but after seeing the patties flipping and hearing the bacon sizzling, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the burger. Jesse was friendly and engaged with us as his customers while cooking. The burger itself was great as it had a great combination of flavors. It was gone within probably minutes. Overall great experience and food.
I was instantly intrigued when I saw it was an actual railcar. Then the menu-all day breakfast, burgers, sandwiches and more. I got the Glenda’s Boudin Burger. A hand pattied with boudin in the patty with cheese and covered in crawfish and pickled okra - the pickled okra was brilliant with this mix. The atmosphere was amazing! There is no doubt this dude loves Jesus! When I was a teenager we had an evangelist say “we ain’t just full gospel because we speak in tongues, we are also full gospel cuz we’re full” and laughed as he patted his belly lol. That was my thought 30 something years later after that meal! Go on over and get fed, when you leave, grab you a Bible or devotional on your way out and get spiritually fed when you get to where you’re going.
Discover a hidden treasure right here in Batesville. Stop by the authentic railroad dining car and discover a real chef working in the kitchen. The presentation is incredible. The flavor is spot on. The atmosphere is just right. When you put it all together, you find a dining experience that is several steps above your average meal. Give them a try. You will not be disappointed.
OMG y’all!!! Award winning melt in your mouth, shake your butt, juicy finger drippin amazing burgers!!!! The Glenda Boudin is like a creole party in your mouth and brought me back to those long nights in da bayou. A whole lotta Gris Gris thatta make a Cajun gator cry for more. Now the “Jesse James”… you taste the love. It’s is in every bite! That perfect Smokey taste on home loved bacon smothered with some Jesse James sauce will make you want to lay down your pistols. The BBQ sauce is enough to make you smack your momma. She might hit ya back and steal your burger. Folks this is a burger the outlaw would be proud of! Now get your butt on down there and try some of this local food. You tase the love in every bite! Did I mention their home made pickles. Put a fork in me. I’m filled with beef and a happy gal!
Been here a few times now, and you just get better quality food for the money. Reasonably priced with lots of care put into every bite!! I feel like this guy is legitimately passionate about food. He’s there in the kitchen doing the work himself. I wanna try everything on the menu!! Midnight Bourbon Steak Wrap today was bursting with flavor! Also, the portion size is great. Very well executed!
This place is fire! I walked over from the hotel door to check it. The cook was incredibly friendly. Super nice guy. They new young waitress was sweet as can be. The food? Michelin ⭐️ quality. Burger was amazing. Cooked perfectly and nice & juicy. The hand cut fries are perfect. Hand cut and double fried. All fries should be like this. I’m here for business, and will plan return visit soon. The place is that good.
Best Philly Cheesesteak around and it’s huge. Side note, don’t sleep on the Jesse James burger, it’s fantastic too. This is one of our go to favorite restaurants. The food is delicious and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. We LOVE trying the new items he’s cooking up also. Always a great experience.
I had to try our "World Famous" burger once and for all. I ordered the Ghost Burger aka The Cowboy Killer, and it was delicious!! Perfect amount of spice and the burger was very juicy!! My wife had the Bandido Burger, it was excellent as well. Service was top notch. Staff was very friendly.
We had breakfast at Jesse James, and it was excellent. When we told him about a cinnamon allergy, he suggested pancakes or waffles and told us about the large variety of toppings available. I chose pancakes with caramel and my mom had the breakfast plate. She said the biscuits and gravy was the best in town. Everything was superb!!! We will be eating here again.
We are out of towners and decided to eat at this place and it’s amazing….the diner feel, great music, you eat in a train cart and that’s different and fun!!Service is wonderful all smiles and kind! We both got burgers, waffle fries, onion crispers, loaded potato bites, and turtle brownie and a fried cherry pie!Burgers were juicy not over cooked, fries just right Everything was amazing!A place to eat for sure♥️😄 So full I can’t breathe!
This place has been on my to-do list to eat at for months. Apparently, it opened under new management and was open when we were in town so decided to mark it off my list. It's located in a former train car, which in my opinion is unique. It's relatively long length wise, but relative narrow width wise. At the entrance (front of train car) is table seating (3) and 1 booth, then towards the middle (old school bar stools; think 50's diner), and then towards the rear is 6 booths. Service was beyond amazing. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered the Mac and cheese bites, steak burrito with hashbrowns, and the wrangler burger with crinkle fries. Everything arrived hot, in a timely manner, and was delicious 😋 They have daily lunch and dinner specials. Breakfast is served all day. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Everything was very good! Only complaint was my service there was only 2 tables being waited and it was rush rush..I want to feel welcome and asked if id like dessert which was not asked. We always get dessert afterwards. Just need to not rush for payment and get people out the door it is only 6:08pm. I really miss that i didnt get my banana nut French toast..its amazing..
Wife & I went there for lunch today. Heard lots of good things about the place, so we were excited to try it out. We got there at 1pm. I ordered the Reuben with house cut fries, my wife got the Mushroom Swiss Black Bean Burger with Cajun seasoned fries & 2 Iced Teas. My Reuben was tasty. My fries seemed old and were stone cold. My wife's Black Bean Burger was burnt to a crisp & her fries were also stone cold & old. We did not say anything to the waitress as we felt it took long enough to get our order & we were really hungry. Bill came to $30 before tip. I really wanted to like it, but in the end, it was kind of expensive for feeling like a "meh" meal. Thanks for the effort, but we won't be back.
I’m so sorry to be writing this! After our first experience at Jesse James, we were hooked. It was the best food we had encountered in Batesville. The biscuits were fluffy, the pancakes were perfect, the Cowboy Benny was phenomenal. We told everyone to head over to the train car for a great breakfast! We went back on Sunday per our kiddos’ request (they had been talking about the pancakes non-stop) and WOW were we disappointed. The wait time was almost an hour and during that time our waitress did not check on us once. When the food came, we were shocked. The biscuits were hard as a rock, the meat in the Cowboy Benny tasted like it had gone off, and the pancakes were underdone and still batter-soft in the middle. When the waitress brought our food we asked for more water and she only filled one cup, left the other, and didn’t even glance at the kids’ depleted chocolate milk. She was not in the least bit upbeat, and we were really turned off by the whole experience. My meal was honestly inedible. We left so disappointed because it was totally at odds with our first experience there. I’m open to the idea that this was an off day for everyone, a busy Sunday morning, and the waitress was just in a bad mood - but I’m hesitant to go back! Quite frankly, an hour wait would be totally worth it for the meal that we got on our first visit, but this was awful. Hoping things change before we try again.
My Husband got a hamburger and asked for it well-done. This is what he got for his burger, not even cooked all the way through.
We were excited to try this place seeing as they have all day breakfast. We were very disappointed. The food is low quality. Scrambled eggs extremely undercooked and waffle burnt, chicken tasted odd. We had our toddler with us so we wiped the table down before sitting and the wipe came up black, it took a long time for them to take our orders and there was hardly anyone there. The floor was very dirty and tiles were peeling up as tripping hazards, it was also very cold inside. Sadly we won’t be back. I’m not sure how they have such good reviews, maybe lunch is better.
I hate to complain and I know everyone has off days but the food was absolutely terrible. We ordered boudin balls and that came to the table undercooked, the sausage was cold and obviously raw in the center. We showed the waitress and she talked to the chef and came back and told us he was out of boudin balls so he made homemade one with beef. It was not beef it was 100% breakfast sausage. So we told her we couldn’t eat them like that and she took them off the table. Our meals came out, my friend got a breakfast plate and her bacon was completely burned. I got the eggs Benedict and I know it comes with sunny side up eggs, which I eat but this wasn’t just supper runny yoke. The white parts of the eggs were just runny clear goop everywhere. It needed to be cooked a minute longer and the hollandaise sauce just tasted like honey mustard. We got our bill and they didn’t even take off the boudin balls. So I asked the waitress to take them off because they weren’t edible and she said she would have to ask the chef. The bill went from $39 to $31 so they didn’t even take off the full price of the boudin. Anyways as expensive as everything is now it is very disappointing to pay for food you didn’t even eat. I was told by many people to try this place out so I know people have had good experiences but mine was very disappointing. I do not believe I would be willing to try it again with the way they handle things today.
