Staying across the street and popped in for dinner. Sat at the bar and was greeted immediately. Ordered etouffee, banger shrimp & boudin balls which where brought out very timely. The food was VERY good, bartenders were VERY friendly, restaurant was clean and nice and the cost was not outrageous. Would definitely go back
If you are in the area looking for the perfect spot, please go here!! I didn't want to eat ANYWHERE else if was so good!! The Catfish Orleans was amazing! Fresh, well seasoned, huge portions! Seriously, What more can you ask!! Aiden was our waiter two days in a row! He was so nice, so very helpful and completely patient. Thank you for two days of an enjoyable experience! Try the Boudin balls, they were awesome!!
First time at CAPITAL CITY GRILL in Baton Rogue. Parking is challenging!!! There is a parking lot about 2 blocks away ($7 for 2 hours). The crawfish cornbread was fantastic. I ordered an extra order of crawfish. The cornbread was moist. The tiny hints of jalapeños were just enough. The banger shrimp were good. The queso was good. I didn't try the medium steak. However, I was told it was good perfect. 10/10 crawfish cornbread 7/10 banger shrimp 7/10 queso and chips 8/10 steak If ever traveling to Baton Rogue, we would give this place another try. Service was ok. The restroom was clean.
First of all, it's really weird that the place is spelled "Capital" and not "Capitol". No one thought to check the spelling before you named your business? Anyway, the food here was pretty good. I got the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, which was indeed properly spicy. I got the Mac n Cheese on the side. I thought the flavor was pretty bland on that, but to be fair, the hot chicken may have overpowered it.
Everything, from the service to the food, was amazing. Decided to give this place a try after attending Live After 5. So glad I did. It's also difficult for me to find a carrot cake I actually like- one that reminds me of my aunts' and grandmother's. Capital City Grill's carrot cake was extremely similar. Will definitely be back.
I haven’t had a dish I didn’t like from Capital City Grill, and I’ve been there at least five times with coworkers. The crawfish etouffee is really good, the boudin balls are amazing and the fried pickled okra are quite tasty as well! The pomegranate martini was nice treat. I always look forward to coming here.
We stopped by here on our way back home to Texas. For starters we tried the avocado egg rolls and they were so good! I had the bottomless mimosas with pineapple juice. We also had the chicken biscuits, chicken fried steak with green beans & smashed potatoes, the hush puppies & shrimp. Everything tasted so delicious! We were so stuffed. Staff was friendly, our waitress was Madison and she was very nice & attentive. Bathrooms were clean. We sat inside but they do have several seating outside.
We were visiting from South Carolina for a work conference and after a 13 hour drive all we wanted was some good food. Capital Grill absolutely delivered!! The crawfish étouffée and the salmon were delicious! These dishes were packed full of flavor and hit the spot after eating fast food all day. Our waitress Ashley was also an absolute gem! She was warm and welcoming and embodied southern hospitality. She gave us a parting gift of a lemon which has now became an inside joke at the office. Thank you Ashley! P.S. the bread pudding is to die for!
A must visit if you're in downtown Baton Rouge. Easy to get to, great location and surrounded by downtown architecture. Twila was our waitress and calmed a fear my wife had about etouffe. She ended up getting the Louisiana Etouffe and LOVED it! I had the 9 oz. Filet medium well and it was cooked to perfection. Tender and juicy!! Our son had mac n cheese and naturally loved it! It was quiet, with music in the background. The mix of folks was very evident. Our 1 year old did grea, so it was kid friendly. We ate dinner about 530, so that may make a difference. If you're in downtown, or travelling to BR, give this place a visit!
When I tell you first off there food is always so good, but what stood out today I had ordered food on DoorDash and I called the restaurant to add more dressing and when I tell you that they made it less complicated with no issues and no complaint about it. Not only that they made my food look so advertising and yes it was sooo good ! I love capital city grill !!!!!
I love going to this place. We had a couple of Christmas parties here and it was amazing. The staff were polite and attentive. And some of them were just hilarious. I would highly recommend going to this place and try out the catfish with the crawfish étouffée. You won’t be disappointed.
There is no better place to be during the Spanish Town Parade! Even with the massive parade crowds, the service was top-notch. The bartenders were absolutely incredible—fast, friendly, and kept the drinks flowing without missing a beat. The food was just as impressive and delicious as always. It’s the perfect home base for a parade day in Baton Rouge. Huge thanks to the staff for making a busy day feel so seamless. We’ll definitely be back next year!
If you are looking for good food and outdoor seating options, this is your place. I have dined at this establishment twice and highly recommend giving them a shot. We asked to sit outside both times and still had good service. The servers recommended dishes. Everything was great. Conveniently located on Lafayette St. downtown Baton Rouge. The desserts are outstanding if you can save room.
The Catfish Orleans with catfish over etouffe is phenomenal. Just be sure to get it over rice, because they’ll put it over fries by default for some reason
I visited while in town for a conference. I came around 9:30 on Friday night. The restaurant was not very busy. I got the Honey Garlic Salmon with a beer. For the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere, I felt the price was appropriate (my meal was about $30 before tax). I enjoyed my experience and would happily dine here again.
Wonderful experience. Not too busy when I took a date here for dinner. The server was awesome in helping us select some dishes to eat. There was plenty of food and the kitchen even accommodated a swap of rice for pasta. Finished it all off with a huge dessert portion of ice cream cake that had candy mixed into it.
Food was sssooo good... Our server was so nice and helpful and we sat outside and it was very nice
They have the best cornbread with crawfish. Food is very delicious!
Fast friendly service with great burgers. All fried food is fried in beef tallow which is much healthier than seed oil. Well-known spot for the capital city area so it gets busy for lunch and supper but I had no wait for a table.
Extremely great food, even better service, I can’t wait to come eat here again. Such a wonderful place, maybe next time I’ll vlog and recommend this place at this location!
First time eating here, and it will DEFINITELY not be my last! Went there with my family after church. From the appetizers to the entree to the Mimosas - EVERYTHING was great!!.. Our waiter Tye (I think) was very attentive and did great with a table of 10 people! I will be visiting AGAIN!!
The food is so good, they have a good variety and the portions are great! The service is top notch, my server was Angel and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. I definitely recommend checking them out!
My first time trying Capital City Grill. I had the grilled pork chops with vegetables it was CHEF KISSES! The pork chop was thick and juicy well charred along with the beautifully sweet & tangy marmalade sauce. The veggies weren’t neglected there was a good amount of seasoning. If I could rate the dish it’s a 10 out of 10 no complaints! I will be returning.
Went for a business luncheon. Very quiet, waitress was attentive but not too attentive. Food was great. We enjoyed ourselves while our boss was attempting to give instructions on our TO DO LISTS.. all we wanted TO DO was eat lol.
Good food. Gator has been perfectly cooked both times I went, which is a bit hard to find in BR. The food is well seasoned, well cooked for most of what we ordered, and the portions are decent.
Had an awesome time with friends during our company dinner last night. Saw at least two happy birthday party at the restaurant so this is nice. Pros: Excellent spot in downtown with a lot of customer and The staffs are attentive and very nice. The food is pretty decent and the speed is not a wait at all. The atmosphere is really awesome. The restroom is clean and they are not busy even on Friday. They offer wine and beer which is awesome and everyone loves it. What I like most about this place is the waitress service Cons: It is hard to find a parking lot on downtown at night especially on the weekends. You may need to reserve a table before your meeting.
We visited Capital City Grill on a Saturday evening and made sure to check the closing time, 10:30pm, before we arrived since it was a bit late-9:00pm. There was a large party finishing up and another table was seated after us, so we didn’t feel bad about it being too late. We ordered drinks and I had my heart set on something small like an appetizer of fried green tomatoes! Unfortunately, the tomatoes came out soaked in a melted sauce that made the breading soggy and unappetizing. I was able to eat one that was resting on top, but the others I couldn’t eat and the breading fell off. The really nice server took the appetizer off of my bill, so I was thankful for that great customer service. Our table ordered the seafood pasta and grilled chicken dinner. Both meals were ok, but we felt that the quality of the dish didn’t match the prices. The restaurant was really nice and cozy, clean bathrooms and a really friendly server. I would go back and try again during a lunch hour.
This restaurant is definitely a must try while in the downtown area. The food was delicious and at a fairly reasonable price. I would definitely recommend the Louisiana Etouffee and any of the desert options. The service was quick despite our large table. There was a small mix up in the order, however the manager was very kind and resolved the issue quickly. The reservation system is difficult and much more tedious than it should be. It has to be dose online, not by call, and the website is difficult to navigate. The atmosphere was great despite a dirty bathroom and an overflowing trash can. It is a short walk from the river center, old state capital, and other activities. Parking is difficult to find on weekends, so be prepared to arrive 15-30 minutes early and to walk a few blocks.
We were in the city for a workshop. This restaurant was within walking distance. Wait wasn't as long as we were quoted. Our server was good. I ordered the southwest pasta. It didn't taste right. I'm assuming the guy that came out was the chef and he was really ugly to me when he questioned why I didn't like it. I told him it didn't taste right, he told me I've sold 100 of these today and I don't understand what you don't like about it. He grabbed the plate and stormed off. I ordered a shrimp salad which was a lot better. The shrimp were big and seasoned well. The salad was big enough for me to have for lunch the next day. I'm not sure I'd visit this place again.
We decided to take a shot here, not busy was lunch time. Upon arriving we entered the bar side. Gal at the bar are you wanting to sit at the bar and we said noo. Instead of pointing your finger goto the other side takes us there. Upon getting to the other side entrance we got seated right away. We ordered two drinks smash berry was a good choice and my lady chose barg root beer. We ordered two appetizer.. one was queso and chips and the other appetizer was banger shrimp. The queso was so thin it was just not tasty no flavor tasted water down. The Banger shrimp was a bit better but it was not crunchy more like soggy had sum flavor. We were asked if we wanted to order entree right after we ordered our appetizer. We said give us a few. Due to the appetizer mediocre taste we chose not to order entree. We were never asked for a refill. I would of had several if they would ask. It's not my job to hunt down service its their responsibility to make the sale. 20% gratuity not even. We went elsewhere for lunch.
The atmosphere was great. A really chill spot. The food was really good too, which was surprising cuz Baton Rouge people cant cook. Great place to go after church!
Love this place! Such a gem in downtown. Just wish they understood that not everyone wants meat in their vegetables. I'm vegetarian and I ordered the vegetables of the day, only to have it filled with bacon.
We dined here as a group of 6 last minute around 8pm. Everyone was super friendly - the host, bartender, and server. The portion sizes are ginormous, and everything we ordered was delicious. There were 2 things that made the experience less than stellar: (1) It was incredibly hot inside. Most of us were sweating before the meal was over. (2) The pace of service was super slow. At one point, one of ordered another (bottled) beer and it was 20+ minutes before it came to the table.
The food was good. I had to pay almost 25 dollars for 2 hours parking.
Not horrible but not the best place. The steakl came out way over cooked. They did rebook it for us. The buger was kinda of over cooke as well. It was very hot inside the restaurant. Are bar drinks took forever to get..
Ok, the food was good, the service was good and the atmosphere was good. Prices were OK. Carrot cake.was off the chart - I highly recommend! HOWEVER, parking sucked! $25 to park for 2 hours! I know it's not the restaurants fault but you have to park to go so!
Ordered the Catfish Orleans. Takeout. Excellent portion and filets fried perfectly. The gravy was tasty also. Looking forward to returning and checking out other items on the menu.
La entrada de lagarto frito es algo muy rico y diferente
I went to Capital City Grill for Restaurant week for lunch. This was my first time being there and I figured I'd take advantage of their special for $20. I got the Buffalo Bacon Bleu Cheese Shrimp for an appetizer without the Bleu Cheese, the Steak and Potatoes for my entree, and the Red Velvet Cake for dessert. The Buffalo Shrimp was really good, the Steak was cooked to perfection but not much flavor or seasoning and barely any bearnaise sauce and the potatoes really had no flavor, and the Red Velvet Cake was ok but very dry. I sat at the bar and my service was 5 star because of the great bartender Emily. Maybe next time I will try something different if I decide to go back.
I went there tonight, it was my first time. I was very disappointed. We ordered fried alligator as an appetizer. (It was very delicious!) However, we didn’t get that much especially for paying $14.00. I was going to ask our server where the rest of It was. I get on here to write a review and saw someone posted a picture of their fried alligator. The got WAYYYY more than us. My boyfriend ordered the half and half platter. He got one catfish and some shrimp. That is not half and half. I definitely think this place is way over price for the amount of food you get.
Food at Capital City Grill was not good at all. I had the French dip, and the meat was so tough I couldn’t even bite through it — I ended up pulling most of it out with every bite. The horseradish tasted days old, and the fries were way over-seasoned and super salty. Granted, it’s a bar and they probably want you to drink more, but the food should still be decent. The only thing I actually enjoyed were the hush puppies — they were good, but a honey butter sauce would really help offset how salty the rest of the dish was. Overall, this feels like a classic case of an owner or manager not tasting their own food regularly to make sure the quality is up to par. I wouldn’t recommend it. Amanda my server was excellent and the service doesn’t reflect the food, also another case of upscale look with mediocre food.
I love the outside seating! Our table wasn't too clean but the the umbrellas were a nice touch and the scenery was a plus. Our waiter was really nice! Our overall food experience was not good. I ordered the crawfish cornbread and the corn bread was so hard and crumbly it was impossible to eat. My husband got the seafood omelet and it was just ok. I expected more from the beignets(since we were in Baton Rouge) but they were so dense and crumbly, I did not like them at all. The best thing I had here was the Shirley temple. That was it. The food seem to be old. I believe they need to up their game with the care and freshness of their food. It's definitely not a place I would visit again. Let me not forget, we also had alligator and it was seasoned really well, but very chewy.
Last time I was hear, the food was great. This time, the French dip was soggy to the point the bun fell apart and I had to eat it with a fork. Yes, this was before the dipping part. And the French fries seemed to have a whole bottle of salt dumped on them. They were soggy too. But... the food did come out fast and the servers were great.
Not sure what's going on but service is definitely different.Use to be one of my favorite places. Management has definitely changed also.A little customer service goes a long way. Also, let the customers know the air is out instead of them asking why it's so warm. Trying to be as positive as possible
Avocado egg rolls are good but I recommend getting them with a side of ranch instead of the honey cilantro. I asked if I could do quest and was denied despite chips and queso being on the menu. Seafood pasta is legit spicy. I say this as someone who likes spicy. It was served with a small mountain of parmesan that I scooped off. Catfish New Orleans is served on a bed of fries and cannot be grilled. At least you can get rice or mashed potatoes instead of fries. It was an odd dinner.
Service was good. I sent the queso back because it was hard to dip a chip because it was on the cold side. The seafood pasta had too much red pepper and should have been listed as a spicy seafood pasta. The penne pasta was super overcooked. The tenderizing hammer must have bypassed my chicken fried steak it was tough. It also was rolled up on one end where the only crust I found was a wad of uncooked batter. The fried 🧀 cheese wedges were pretty good. The size of the dipping marinara was too small for 5 wedges. I expected good quality food to be prepared correctly. I don't plan to come back.
We went here for a simple brunch while visiting family. The restaurant didn’t allow modifications while also having limited options on the menu. They didn’t have any juice or fruit. The menu didn’t include quantity of food you would receive which was misleading(ex. Biscuits and gravy with only 1 biscuit). They took a very long time to come out with the food. They messed up multiple peoples orders that had to be sent back. They offered free dessert in the end but even those were not up to par. Lastly they are trying to offset debit/credit card fees by charging more if you pay with card versus cash. So bring cash if you decide to go. Our waiter was nice which was a plus 1 star, I guess.
8.2.25 I came here for the first time with my guy. After looking at the reviews, I was set on the salmon. My salmon was burnt/severely charred at the bottom, and of course the charred side was placed on top of the rice, so that I didn't notice it until I ate it. That soy sauce gravy over rice is not tasty at all. It looked like something squeezed out of a pouch that was placed over the rice. I tried my best to eat whatever white rice I could find without that soy gelatin spread over it. I was hungry, but I was displeased that the chef found it okay to make the customer suffer for loss of a great piece of salmon by burning it. There was NOTHING unique or worth the amount of money that was spent on this meal. I assumed that the quality and the preparation of the meal would have been better than just walking into some Chinese buffet to get rice that was served in this manner. Matter of fact, the Chinese Buffet would have done better because they would have been true to the cuisine and not just spread soy gelatin over rice. The atmosphere was good and quiet for the most part. I will never be back. I DO wonder what most people are ordering here, though.
Server was sweet and helpful I can’t remember her name. Manager was passive aggressive when I told him I found a long hair in my food. Told me that the chefs were bald and it had to be a server instead of just fixing the problem. It wasn’t a server because it was between my fish and bed of rice. He did offer to remake the dish. When the manager brought out the new dish he opened the dish and asked “does this look good to you?” Question to myself, How can I see if it’s more hair upon a glance? Of course it “looks” good to me. Second Dish had topped crabmeat that was not cooked like on the original dish. Crabmeat wasn’t even heated. Very cold. Carrot cake was delicious and the dish before the hair finding had good flavor.
Amanda B was so rude, it was my daughter's birthday and she wanted to try capital city grill. She took our order, never asked if we wanted drink refills. My husband had a stroke so takes him awhile to ask for what he wants. We asked for Togo boxes, she didn't bring the container for the dip. When she finally did, she dropped off the check, my husband wanted a diet coke to go, she said rudely, is there anything else. Waited 10 min, left her a 15 dollar tip, she walked by us twice no Togo diet coke, so I scratched out the tip and left her nothing, as we left she was standing at the bar talking with other employees, I held my tongue. Food was great Amanda B was not.
Honestly received the worst service for the managers look at the bar between 11-2:30. We sat order bottomless and have not received service since. We had two sets of people order drink and leave since and both of the bartenders have looked at us multiple times and have not said a word....as I write this still have not said anything...we didn't do anything...also I'm manger at walk ons and this just isn't how service should be. I've come her for three years and the service has dwindled to this...it sucks to feel like I'm the problem. Never got food or asked about food nothing.
I wish I could give this place zero stars. I spent $77 expecting a quality meal, but what I got was absolutely inedible. I ordered a medium steak with mac and cheese, and my fiancé ordered a ribeye with broccoli—and it was all a complete waste of money. First off, look at this steak (see photos). I ordered medium, and what I received was bleeding, undercooked, and completely unseasoned. I literally couldn’t eat it. The mac and cheese? Might as well have been plain noodles with a few sad pieces of cheese sprinkled on top—completely flavorless and dry. When I called the restaurant to express my disappointment, the manager told me to just microwave it and said there was nothing else they could do. Microwave a steak?! That’s their solution for serving raw food? The lack of customer service is just as bad as the food. Capital City Grill is overpriced, underwhelming, and does not care about its customers. Save your money and go anywhere else.
Was not busy but you would of thought they had every chair filled. I wanted to order the county fried steak but they was out. Waited forever for the check I'm sure the gentleman walking around probably got my waitress and she only had like 2 to 3 tables including mine. I plan on not returning.
Ay listen, I thought long about making this post cause I hate to leave a bad review on a local business but it regarded my health. I'm a type 1 diabetic so when I catch a bug, it tends to be a little worse than average, so I urge anyone else with chronic conditions to be aware. I had the fried shrimp here and although it looked fine, it tasted like charcoal. If I'm being honest, I thought something was wrong with me for a second and kept eating until I realized it was the shrimp. Later that night I had the worst food poisoning I've ever had in my entire life. Sorry to be graphic, but I was throwing up BLACK bile for 2 and a half days, bedridden, blood sugar skyrocketing, and if it wouldn't cost me thousands of dollars I would've gone to the hospital. I've been close to death a couple times before in a hospital and let me tell you this food poisoning had me nearly that scared. Its a shame because the last time I had their fried shrimp it was fantastic, but yeah definitely not worth the risk now.
I absolutely LOVE this place ! Ive brought family and friends from oot here because the food and drinks are fantastic. Normally the service is too however Ally B…. Absolutely needs retraining . She was completely inattentive, everything came out unbearably slow , she rushed our table asking if we needed to go boxes and the check mid conversations/ dining . Not everyone even had our food yet. We ended up giving the check and tip to another server who was nearby. Definitely the worst experience I’ve had here.
I went to the restaurant for dinner and order the special. My spinach and artichoke had a hair in my food, order a medium steak they sent out at a rare, and my portion was less than other patrons. They did try to redo my meal and they over cooked it and burn my steak. My wife had the seafood plate but the fish needed to be fry harder. They need to work on consistency and know their temperature when doing steaks. This was my 3rd time coming to this restaurant dont think I will be giving them another chance.
Just left tonight on 3/6/25 at 915pm. Order 1 shrimp poboy and 1 catfish poboy with fries to go. Tasted the fries before I left and they were fried hard and cold. I immediately requested for some more fries. A few mins later our order was brought back out. I tried a fry and it tasted ok and left. Got outside the restaurant and tried some more fries and they were even harder and colder. Most of the shrimp was burnt on the po boy. All the food tasted like it was cooked in the same old grease. Both po boys with fries were tossed in the nearest trash can I could find. I’ve eaten here several times before and always come for the fries. I will not be making my trip from Gonzales anymore. Very disappointed.
