Opinions de Sukhothai Beacon
We were looking for an excellent Thai restaurant around the area. This place did not disappoint. Someone in our party couldn't dine inside the restaurant, and they were more than happy to accommodate the group for outside seating. My whole group enjoyed the food. Great service! Parking wasn't challenging to find either—Excellent Pad Thai and curry.
My friend and I each had a great meal. The curried shrimp in sauce was delicious. My friend cleaned her plate leaving only a couple grains of rice. Desserts, fried bananas with ice cream, and carrot cake were all tasty. Great place to eat and relax.
What a great quiet lovely spot! Food, amazing, don't miss the sweet tea, it's sensational. If you are lucky enough to sit outside, you can face the beautiful Mt. Beacon and the waterfall at Roundhouse. Now how friendly and super professional the waiters are... Comfortable, friendly, amazing prices and delicious food. I guess you will have to try it for yourself. Superb!
I don’t think I could say enough great things about Sukhothai! Whether I’m ordering take out or dining in my experience is always SUPERB. Between the absolutely DELICIOUS food that even had me coming back for more in the same day after trying what my Aunt had ordered (do yourself a favor and TRY THE PANANG CURRY!!!!) to the EXCELLENT service provided by our waiter Benji (with the tattoos) who gave us great conversation, plenty of laughs, and took amazing care of us during our meal. I don’t typically write reviews, but more people need to know about this absolute gem of a restaurant!
That was our first visit in Beacon and we decided to try this restaurant. We order soup each and there we really good. We also had a carry duck to go and it was really delicious and the portion was really big. Servers were really nice and attentive and everyone had a big smile on their face. My only complaint that the menu is really hard to read.
First time here. I ordered takeout. My food was hot and ready when I arrived. Greeted by a nice young man who provided my order. Vibe seemed relaxed, quiet and casual. Food was neatly packed and delicious. I will be ordering here from know on.
We got delivery so cannot speak to service/ambiance - but the food was delicious! We moved here pretty recently and I have not had Thai this good in years.
Probably the best Pad Thai in the area. Just don’t get overly confident with the spice level, stick to the mild!
The food and service is consistently excellent. Such great flavors and the generous portions virtually guarantee that you’ll have food to take home and enjoy.
Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The consistently delicious food combined with the excellent service provided each time I've come to dine make it unmatched. I had to be sure to get the name of our server, Benjie, who took great care in ensuring that my strict dietary needs were met - he was so patient with me, and his extensive knowledge of the menu helped me find the perfect dish for me within my restrictions. He was so attentive through the entirety of our meal. The food itself is always absolutely heavenly, and so flavorful. I'd give 10 stars if I could!
This spot impressed me. Our waitstaff seemed content and indeed had served there 18 years perhaps speaking to how well they are treated. Moreover having a special diet(vegan) I felt very well taken care of. The quality far exceeded that of any Michelin rated hospitality business. I can’t recommend this higher. Why I wanted to give this less stars maybe due to the menu not because clear on vegan options - i couldn’t. The explanation was made crystal clear and the only thing you can’t be prepared for is the quality. The most important thing to know is bring a friend and order the vegan version of the curry sampler dish. Its $38 and worth it. Exceptional spot!
ordered for takeout on their website. food was ready on time and delicious! would recommend the pad see ew
I had the drunken noodles with pork and it was absolutely delicious!! My wife had the pineapple fried rice and loved it. It was ready exactly when they said it would be.
Sukhothai has been a Beacon Staple for two decades. For good reason. The service is prompt; the dining room spacious - and the food . . . some of the best Thai food I have had in my life. Also consistently wonderful. From the Thai-Basil Duck to the simplest Pad Thai. Don't forget the soup, veggie spring rolls and the amazing deserts. I am blessed to have this wonderful place so close to my home. May it's light stay lit forever.
I've been a frequent visitor to this place for almost 15 years. The consistency of food and service is exacting. It's always the same! In my time sitting here I've seen some of the most demanding customers enter for sitting or picking up. I hope that at some point they were able to manage their stress. I'm not that demanding but I do ask for alterations in a few ways. I like my cheesecakes cold with a fork instead of hot with a spoon. Sometimes depending on the day medium hot is more hot 🔥 which I'm ok with. I also like low salt. This place is protein diverse and vegetarian friendly. I've also never used a service to do take out. I sit or pickup myself as I'm right around the bend. Food containers don't always let the steam escape properly and even a short delivery doesn't quite replicate the delicacy and simplicity of this food. This place is not the most or least expensive place on the street and the standard wines are good as a glass or bottle. I would add more stars if I could to this review. Talk to B or L and tell them I sent you. :)
I admit I am not an expert on Thai food but compared to other fav Thai restaurants the meal was delicious. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. They made the meal to my requested level of spiciness. The sauces were great. I felt stuffed pretty quickly and couldn't finish it, but it was too little to bring home. I would definitely go back again. The server was attentive and very polite. The atmosphere was beautiful.
Love this spot! I like to dine in when it’s off-peak hours, which is when the staff shines. They’re super attentive, engaging, and helpful with the menu—plus the wait times for dishes are very quick! I get something different each time, and everything’s been super delicious, but the curry is the way to go. The duck in red curry is the absolute best, it’s fresh, tender, and a nice blend of creamy and savory. Whenever someone wants Thai, I bring them here. Bravo!
Amazing food everytime. Eating in or taking out everything is delicious. The staff is so kind!
The most delicious authentic Thai food I've ever had! And wonderful service. I took my 2 kids here and they were thoughtful, made my daughter chopsticks she could use by squeezing them. Best restaurant experience I've ever had with my children. I look forward to returning.
I stayed in town to watch a friends dogs while they were on vacation. I literally went to this place or ordered take out every other night. I've gotten a lot of different things from this place, but my favorite was the pineapple fried rice with chicken with mild spice. My wife and friends tried a few other things from the menu and loved everything they ordered. The spring rolls are also very good. I went here so much the waitresses got to know me enough to guess which beer I wanted. They have many beers to choose from and the wine selection is also pretty large. I don't think I ever had an empty glass. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive and are always there to fill up your glass. The food is also very reasonably priced and you get a large portion. If I got dinner, half the time I wouldn't be able to finish it and would have it for lunch the next day. Overall great atmosphere and great food. A must if you're visiting Beacon!
Delicious food, great takeout service, allergy accommodation, and their sticky rice is fantastic! The spring rolls were crisp outside with a satisfying crunch. Authentic Thai in the heart of the eclectic downtown Beacon. Sorry no photos of the food, takeout containers wouldn't do it justice 😁🍚
Atmosphere is N/A because we had take out. All food was absolutely delicious. I enjoy spicy food. I order “Hot”, which has the perfect kick. “Thai Hot” would probably be too hot for me.
Great food! Tried a noodle dish, duck curry, coconut chicken soup, and some appetizers.
Seriously, that was the best duck I ever had. I enjoyed it so much that I had to come back two days later to have it again. I had both the yellow curry and the red curry, both delicious, both with the duck well cooked with a crispy skin, red curry is slightly more spicy but I'm not particularly strong with spicy food and I could handle it. I most definitely recommend it!
My curry chicken dish was very good! I love the consistency in the quality of your dishes; I’m guaranteed each time a good meal ! if I had anything to say improvement on it would be please add a little more rice. :)
Great lunch spot. Very reasonably priced for lunch. Outdoor seating has some shade after 1pm and there was a nice breeze on a 85 degree day. You can also see the Fishkill Falls while having lunch. Service was good. Food was good, esp the green curry and mango sticky rice. The fried tofu and thai ice tea was good too.
We had the most wonderful lunch here! Highly recommend the duck curry! Wonderful staff and amazing food!
Good as absolutey delicious!! Very authentic and loving taste! If you need a place to eat in Beacon definitely eat here!
Came in on a chilly Sunday afternoon. A small bar on entry, in what appears to look like an expansion of the main space. Main space is nicely decored with old brick walls and art work. Server was very attentive. Gave us time to order some appetizers then came back to get our entree order. Tom Yum soup was good but interesting with bell peppers in it, a first for me. Veggie rice was good and the Massaman Curry with tofu was delicious. Wife enjoyed a delicious looking fried I've cream for dessert.
Went for an early dinner with a group of people today (Sunday). We were greeted with a smile at the door and seated promptly. Place was clean, airy, and well-decorated. Service was great. Order was taken quickly and apps and main dishes brought out at a perfect pace. Food was very good, although a few dishes needed a little more "kick". All in all....left satisfied and enjoyed a nice dinner.
As a small business owner, I understand the significance of reviews for my business, so I am fulfilling my part. Today marked my first order from this establishment, and the cuisine was truly incredible!!!!!!!! It was so exceptional that I felt compelled to reorder and enjoy it for dinner, an absolutely AMAZING experience! Thank you for the outstanding service.
This place is very busy and the staff has everything under control. We went to celebrate a coworker‘s birthday. Her boyfriend asked me to make the cake and they allowed us to light candles and surprise the birthday girl with ice cream and a candle as well, the food is amazing very good, fresh delicious savory Definitely worth a visit.
I don't know what these other people are complaining about this is by far the best sit Thai restaurant in this area. Even if someone might complain it's not authentic enough than it's miles above anything else Asian in this area. Big portions great staff fair prices. Dinner for 2 $55 if we got an appetizer add another $10-15 . Going to the diner nowadays is almost that price anyway. Food service was fast but with how good it was I would of been happy to wait . Don't listen to the Beacon snobs it's delicious. I will definitely return !!!
We have been coming here for years, and only just realized I never reviewed it. This place has amazing, fresh, and very unique Thai food. Their Thai toast is a great starter to share. Pineapple fried rice and the drunken noodles are amazing. You can always try a different protein in the rice and also ask for it be spicy or Thai hot as well! Beware, Thai hot is very hot. Their Sukathai chicken is amazing and has such a good rich flavor. So many options of noodles, proteins, rice, tofu, etc... There is something for everyone to enjoy
Went with my 2 girlfriends on Wednesday, September 2⁹, 2021. Two of us had Pad Thai with Shrimp and loved it. Had Thai tea and it was delicious. Also tried Thai rice with mango, and it was the very best mango I have ever had, not the stringy mango that gets caught in my teeth, like I am used to. Surrounded by beautiful artwork, I loved the ambience. The restaurant and restroom were immaculate. Definitely worth a return trip!
Lovely food. Test really good. Indoor ,outdoor, takeout all are available . They accept credit debit and cash also. I love the decoration inside the restaurant .Employees are really friendly and helpful. I love the welcome greetings. They are also maintain the safety issu. Every food really fresh and on time . price not too high for the covid. Thanks 🌸👍
My husband and I came here on a recommendation. Definitely worth it. Service was friendly and attentive (Mint was our server). I ordered the ginger chicken and it was delicious. My husband ordered the drunken noodles. Both of us are pleased and will be coming back.
Food was good they might have forgotten about us. Table seated after we ordered got their food first. Was a bit pricey in my opinion but I’m not docking a star for that.
From the outside I was like Meh, but went in with family for some Thai goodness and was really impressed. The service was nice and the ambiance was solid. I ordered the pad seiw (spelled differently at several places) and it was so so good. The portions are fairly large and I ended up taking half home for round two of devour town. I also had their vegetable spring rolls and they were really tasty. Definitely give this place a try.
The service was good and the tea delicious. We chose to be vegetarians and they catered it without even fish oil. Their decor is pleasant and it’s situated in Beacon which is a very beautiful town. The food however was far too salty and didn’t taste very fresh. Their menu is commendable but I do hope they improve their quality.
Nice little Thai spot. While we enjoyed the meal, the food lacked the flavor and umami we were craving. The pad Thai with wide noodles was a nice option instead of the usual thin noodles, but wish it had that traditional salty-sweet combo. The curry was nice. Definitely didn’t stop me from enjoying the very large portions!
I wanted to love this restaurant, as it is very convenient to the center of Beacon and the staff is welcoming. But my pad Thai and my friend’s pad see ew seemed to have come out of a freezer (or very cold fridge) and re-heated with tons of oil. Some bits of tofu were still cold. At almost $20 per dish, it was beyond pricey- especially because neither of us could stand to eat the whole dish.
Pretty good Thai food, particularly the Pad Thai. Somewhat overpriced in my opinion. Takeout orders can take as long as 2 hours which I think is unacceptable for any restaurant offering this service. That's my largest grievance with Sukothai. Management should adapt to accommodate heavy takeout nights so to not exceed one hour wait times.
Some dishes are prepared way better than others. The curries for example, are pretty tasty. The Pad Kee Mao or Druken Noodles unfortunately was not it. I ordered that while my date ordered the curry and I was eating off his plate the entire time while my noodle sat untouched. It has no flavor, improper seasonings, it was very unsatisfying for me. Would come back for the curry if I had to, but for Druken Noodles around here, I’ll go to elsewhere (theirs too are a bit better but not best)
Better dishes: Thai fried rice, shrimp roll, prik king pork, pad thai. Update: their pad see ew (my usual go-to favorite), drunken noodle, steamed dumplings are a'ight. Still have to try their cashew chicken next time. Update: for better Thai, go to Golden Buddha.
The food is great, but the building smelled moldy, and the bathrooms were awful. Looking at the high chairs... I'd never put my child in one there. They were absolutely filthy. I want this restaurant to succeed, I have always loved their food, but with the prices paid, I expect a cleaner atmosphere.
Typically, our go to place but not anymore. Food is great when you get what you ordered. Last several experiences were horrible. Placed a to go order and was told it was about a 15 to 20 minute wait. Forty-five minutes later, the man at the front blames the cooks in the back. The cook didn't tell us 45 min wait, the front man did. Came home to find out our pineapple fried rice did not have protein and the curry that we ordered with beef didn't have beef but chicken. Lastly, when we looked at our order, it was not the cooks fault who made what the front desk input. Over 100.00 later, I'm done. It's been nice but to many places in Fishkill that also serve yummy Thia food.
I had the most expensive Thai meal I’ve ever had—even in NYC, where I usually pay at least $5 less at well-regarded Thai restaurants. While I understand this spot is one of the few Asian cuisine options in the neighborhood, the prices felt a bit too steep for what was offered, and the food didn’t quite deliver on authenticity. The Pad See Ew we ordered was especially heavy on the sauce—to the point that it felt like we were eating mostly sauce rather than noodles.
The food was wonderful! I ordered red curry and they had it to my table in 8 minutes! And it was hot with the right amout of spice. Of course it was only me and 4 other people there. The waitress was friendly and did a great job! The cons are that the place was not clean and had a not so pleasant smell. The you could clearly see debris on the carpet and there were cobwebs on the light fixtures and in the bathroom. Lots of dust It made me worry how clean things are behind the counter. Nice atmosphere though if it were clean.
I was visiting Beacon with my friend from Manhattan, ordered the wrong food that left me dissatisfied with our lunch. Their Twice Cooked Beef was salty, crunchy bits of beef fat, hard to chew very dry. The salad that came on the side (papaya salad) of my dish was over seasoned with sodium, too salty. My friend who went to Thailand herself said the food is not authentic. She ordered Chichen coconut soup. Stuff was very nice and gave me their employee discount of $5 because I didn't like, and didn't finish the Twice Cooked Beef.
Nice Thai restaurant right on Beacon Main Street. The service was quite slow even though it wasn’t busy, but the setting and fairly nice ambience made it an alright wait. The pad kee Mao was fairly good, although the noodles were a bit overcooked. The peanut pork and veggies were also fairly good, but the peanut flavor wasn’t very perceptible. A good stop for if you want Thai food on Beacon Main Street, but there should be better Thai if you can drive 10 minutes.
I read the reviews on Yelp and Google, and despite the warnings and red flags I had to be my own judge. I went with a group and we each ordered quite a bit of food. We are all Thai food lovers. But I don’t think this place is for us respectfully, and that’s ok. Every dish was quite bland, and not only that but they tasted and were made differently than we are used to. Not sure why, but we didn’t enjoy anything that we ordered.
Food was decent not the greatest, dumplings came out in 5 minutes, drunken noodles and pad Thai were decent. Staff gets a no star. The tatted waiter was arrogant, rude and unprofessional from the get go. Almost as if they were doing us a favor. You would at least expect manners. Not recommending this place , if you are visiting don’t expect them to be friendly.
I just recently moved to Beacon and am starting to realize that though this is a great town, people here seem to lack taste buds and are way too generous with their ratings. First the positives: the atmosphere and the staff. Both very nice, but neither will get me to go back to eat here. I ordered drunken noodles and was so disappointed at the blandness of the dish. If the owners should read this, I really want you to know that I am writing this so that your business is successful. Please make a trip to Long Island City’s Tuk Tuk. I drove the 2 hours to get takeout there, as I missed that restaurant so much. Best of luck.
Do yourself a favor and take the drive to Golden Buddha in Fishkill… Food is good, therefore two stars, but the guy who answers the phone is always rude. We always get "it'll be an hour and 45 minutes" when we call for take out, to which we plan ahead for. Instead of taking our order, this guy puts us on hold forever, then doesn't pick up when you call back. When we actually can place an order it's ready in 30 minutes, so why the lies? I hope the owner reads this someday because whoever this guy is that answers the phones is ruining your word of mouth business. We are not the only people in town who get this type of service. Unfortunate, especially because we’ve been customers regularly and our favorite go to is Thai.
I dined here on Sunday 10/22. People were not kidding when they say the service is very slow! We waited 30 mins for our spring roll appetizer to arrive. Afterwards we waited 10 mins for our main entrees to arrive. Because we had to take the train back to Manhattan we were on a tight schedule and ended up asking for a to go box. We quickly ate one entree and packed the other one to go. The waiter never checked up on us in these 40 mins and we saw another table being served first even though they arrived after us. Afterwards the waiter said they prioritized the other table because they were waiting for the train…is it my fault I didn’t mention before ordering that I was also waiting for the train? Or is it their fault for not letting customers know they are prioritizing another table to accommodate the train? I don’t know. The food was okay but very expensive, even more than Manhattan prices. $19.50 for pad Thai with chicken/pork. Will not be coming back the next time I visit Beacon.
Not recommended if you are in a rush. Took about 45 minutes to get our food. Food itself was unremarkable and rather expensive for the quality.
I think this restaurant is having problems with its kitchen management. Many dishes are overcooked. The food from the kitchen is very slow. The way the ingredients are prepared for some menu items is inconsistent with the restaurant's long operating history.
My wife, Father in-law and I came for dinner last night. We did have a reservation but it wasn't busy. My wife got the ginger chicken and veggies, I got the house duck and my father in-law got the pepper steak. After we were sat, a table of 6 came in after us. The service was extremely slow for us. The table of 6 got there food about 15 minutes before we did. When we finally got our food it was good but not great. Was a lot like regular Chinese food.the soda was also disgusting and we couldn't even drink it. my duck was way over cooked. Some of it was hard as a rock and inedible. After we finished It took another 15 minutes to get the bill that came out to just over $90 before the tip. We wanted to pay cash but the guy just dropped a pay machine at the table we tried to get his attention to tell him we wanted to pay cash but he just ignored us and kept walking away.. we wound up just using a credit card and walked out. Been wanting to try this place for a long time was pretty disappointed.
Came here on a Saturday afternoon. The Roundhouse was a mob scene and this place was quiet. I'd much rather be here than the mob scene. The food was good. I did have to Google what each curry was but I knew having had Thai before that curries are my best option. We had the Massman and the Panang curries; both are very similar in taste. The one negative here is the mens room - very run down and scary. I have to rate low just on that alone. Please do a deep clean!
Maybe we hit a bad night, but there are lots of good choices in Beacon on a Saturday night, and last night was disappointing. The service and servers are lovely, the kitchen was slow, and the timing was poor. The food was some of the most bland Thai food we've ever had. I see that there are many good reviews, and we will try it again sometime. I don't like to leave a negative review, but dining out is expensive, regardless of where you go, and I felt the value just wasn't there.
I almost never write Google reviews, but I have Celiac disease and have to maintain a strict gluten free diet. I ate here a couple weeks ago and got glutened. There are labelled gluten free dishes on the menu, and I had my usual back and forth with the server about the severity of my gluten intolerance. However, I got so sick that I’m pretty sure my food contained gluten and wasn’t just cross-contaminated. Just reviewing in hopes it helps another person with Celiac! The food was good—just can’t recommend it if you have additional dietary needs/allergies.
Got the pad siew tonight, first time trying this spot. Me and my wife love Thai food, and have tried a lot of places. This is by far the worst Thai food we have ever had. Pretty sure they seasoned the noodles and beef with pure water alone. This food had NO flavor. Wasn’t even enough salt on this… felt like we were just eating chewable air. And they charge 20 bucks PER PLATE too.. Overpriced and not nearly worth it.
I am not sure how this place has any good reviews. Having eaten in this establishment, I knew the food was so-so. But, I had takeout Thursday evening that was horrible. Ugh. The steamed dumplings were dry and inedible. They tasted like they were filled with chicken parts, cartilage included. The curry was awful. No veggies. So gross. Never again.
Every six months or so I gave this place another chance, and it is always utterly disorganized chaos. The food is decent and the people are nice enough, but they are perpetually understaffed, and every single time I’ve been there it feels like the servers are not just having their first day working in the service industry, but their first day on earth. Be prepared to wait regardless of how many people might be there when you arrive.
One of the worst eating experiences I have ever had. Waited over an hour and a half to be served! Some food was even cold. The did one round of drinks on the house when we were about to leave stating food would be right out. It took another 25 minutes after that. Then had the audacity to charge for everything in full rather than at a discount for the poor experience.
I don’t like writing these posts but this had to have been one of the worst - if not the worst - Thai food I ever had. I’ve had Thai food in places such as India and, the Middle East. And this just couldn’t hold up. We shared a curry dish, pad Thai and a basil chicken dish. I tried the last two. The pad Thai - which honestly is one of those dishes you expect any Thai place to be at least half decent at - was pretty tasteless. The tofu appeared to be of such poor quality that my dining companions, who otherwise never throw out food, tossed it out. The basil chicken dish - which I’ve ordered at many Thai places - was similarly underwhelming. I could taste the basil but something just seemed off. I don’t know if it was the quality of the ingredients, if a commonly used ingredient was missing, but it just was not good. For all this, I paid New York City prices for an otherwise pretty lousy meal. (None of my dining companions liked it)
My Husband and I have been going to this restaurant for 12 years, food and service used to be good, not anymore. I ordered pan siew with the wide noodles, comes with Chinese broccoli my protein was chicken and shrimp. I requested extra Chinese broccoli which the waiter told me was an unchanged of $2.00 (no problem), shrimps unchanged was $3.00 (no problem), however when my food arrive I noticed it was a plate of overcooked/dried out chicken/3 mini shrimps that curled in a ball and regular broccoli (not chinese) I brought it to the waiter attention who was unprofessional, rude, disrespectful, pointed her finger in my plate barely missed touching my food with a smirk on her face. These days times are hard, food is expensive but, you try to still have dinner out , enjoy and patronize. The food was not good at all and the service made it even less tasteful. Not to mention we paid $80.00 for food (no alcohol). The experience was enough for My Husband and I to say we will never go back.
Food was good (as always) Service was bare minimum (more focused on other guests) Portion for the entree was less than half of what used to be served. Incredibly disappointed. Can no longer hold this restaurant in high regard and will no longer recommend to others.
First and foremost I must say how disappointed I was in my experience with the customer service. My wife ordered two takeout orders of drunken noodles and paid extra for chicken and shrimp and specifically requested no vegetables in our food as we have an allergy to certain ones. When she arrived home we realized both our orders were filled with vegetables so she called the restaurant to see what can be done to rectify the matter. Initially she was told it can be remade but they will only provide us with the noodles and we were expected to take the meat from the first order which as I mentioned was filled with things we were allergic too. I literally was in disbelief that was even an offer. Once my wife declined the offer and asked to speak to a manager they said they would remake the order, but only one of the two orders not both, she declined that as well then she Was finally told both orders could be remade however we had to return the incorrect orders and the chef had to see it in order for us to get the correct orders. We drove back to beacon which is 30 minutes away from our home and we had to wait an additional 20 min for the order to be prepared. After retrieving the correct orders they literally picked out our chicken and shrimp from the incorrect order and put them into the new order. The vegetable seeds were in the new order and the chef must have confused the baby corn as shrimp. The take out experience was horrific and does not exemplify good customer service. If this is any indication of future experiences with this establishment I suggest you go to golden Buddha instead
