Opinions de Berts Jazz Bar Belfast
So I hate that the best food and drink in this city is associated with a hotel, but it is true. Thankfully the hotel is local and manages by a small local hospitality group that knows what it is doing. Had a reservation foolishly not reading the fine print on the website that food is required. I ordered the Haloumi and gladly stuffed myself it was so delicious. Every drink I had was great. Service outstanding. Jazz band awesome. And even enjoyed an amazing baked Alaskan. If in Belfast it's a can't miss! If I come back to this city - I'm a foreigner - I will definitely return.
We had the beef bourguignon. This was superb. A rich, hearty and perfectly cooked chunk of beef and decent sides. The sea bass on the other hand was not as good. It was one of the smallest fillets ever. Tasty enough but far from substantial. Star of the show again was the evening piano followed by the jazz band. Absolutely superb. Could listen to that band all night. Which is exactly what we did. Food was a bit over priced but drinks are very reasonable. Cocktails are excellent. Music and atmosphere is amazing.
Brilliant evening at Bert's Jazz Bar, the staff were very attentive throughout the night with an amazing pianist playing throughout the night. Price is pretty reasonable given the atmosphere and service you are paying for on top of the quality food. Will definitely venture here again!
The food and atmosphere are incredible. The live music really adds to the experience. The servers are some of the most friendly and welcoming we've ever had and are a credit to the place.
We came here for lunch, atmosphere was nice and staff were nice. We ordered goats cheese panna cotta for starters which was really nice. For the main we had gnocchi and pork with scallops. Gnocchi was not actual gnocchi dish and something similar to croquetas but it was still nice. Pork was nice aswell.
Very relaxing and perfect service with the right amount of interaction and attention to detail. Food is delicious and good value for what it is, albeit it's not cheap, that's because it's a class above. Music is a great accompaniment to the meal and not off-putting or too loud. Great for special occasions or anniversaries.
Does a really good chateaubriand and that's what I was there for (wife was there for the cocktails) No complaints simple quality food. Is pricey but it was expected. Cocktails top quality but also pricey. Service great and atmosphere really chill, lovely place to go to ease yourself into an evening of craic
My partner and I love coming here. It's where we had our first date and has a special meaning to us. Aside from that, the food, drinks, service and music are always fantastic. You honestly couldn't get much better food than here at Bert's Jazz Bar. The staff go out of there way to make you feel welcome and can accommodate most requests. They even surprised my partner and I with this lovely anniversary dessert tasting plate. We stayed in their company from 5:30pm to 10:30pm and we were never put under pressure to hurry up and leave or finish our drinks and food. Can't wait to come back and do it all again soon!
An amazing night in Belfast. Our table was booked way in advance and it was so worth it. The food was rich, flavourful and perfectly portioned. I had the soup of the day, and the fish of the day; he had bread followed by steak. The baked Alaska is to die for and they were kind enough to go off-menu by serving a bowl of ice cream. The service was very attentive without being fussy. Service charge was included on the bill and they were worth every penny of it. The music was loud, but in a fabulous way and the performance when we went was delightful. I had such a lot of fun listening to beautiful music whilst eating great food, with my lovely companion. It feels very much a birthdays and anniversaries restaurant, and probably wouldn't be right for a first date as it's a bit too loud to talk comfortably if you don't know eachother well already. If we're ever back in Belfast, I'd love to come back here; if you're in Belfast and like jazz even a little bit, you should go and fall in love with jazz there.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in Berts Jazz Bar last night and we're so glad we did. Everything and I mean everything was perfect but the key to it all was the wonderful staff who attended us with such professionalism. We started the night in one of the booths with a couple of cocktails, an old fashoned and Napoleon's code, both gorgeous. For main course we had the rib-eye and beef bourguignon, dessert was creme brulee, espressos and more cocktails. All amazing. Then they sent us down a cute as hell wee happy anniversary dessert brownie thing. More drinkies in the bar before we headed back to our hotel. I must also commend the musicians who played a selection of jazz classics all night, absolutely amazing and all contributing to atmosphere, touch of class and luxury that is Berts Jazz Bar. I cannot recommend Berts enough, it's been our favourite restaurant but last night just put a wee maraschino cherry on it.
What a place!!! I Lo❤️e Jazz 🎸🎶, Love a great atmosphere and live music, who doesn’t? We came across this venue by accident and thought we’d try it. We weren’t dressed up though and felt we’d get rejected initially. Well, we got the warmest welcome, ushered to our seats, provided with Beautiful cold water without even asking and then provided a top star service for drinks. I requested a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu. The waitress, bless her, did nothing but get the ingredients offline and created my cocktail for me, and boy did she do a grand job! All the staff we interacted with were fantastic! Super friendly, Professional, smart, warm, welcoming and made Berts even more attractive. We had some drinks and enjoyed the live Jazz music from the musicians. Just loved this evening to finish off our stay in Belfast. If you’re after a fantastic vibe, a date night, live music, professional friendly service with reasonably priced drinks, then look no further, in fact, put Bert’s at the top of your list and you won’t go anywhere else, I promise you. Thank you ‘Berts’ for a great evening. Have a try if ‘Madeline’ cocktail. It’s a bonus!! 💫
Absolutely adored this night time haven, a must for live music and jazz standards. Such a treat, wonderful to relax, enjoy great food or have a drink in this authentic jazz bar. All this in a welcoming place with exceptional service while you soak up the outstanding musicans who deliver beautiful live music ranging from jazz classics to latin jazz.
We had an absolutely superb dinner and in general a beautiful night with live music. What a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday! We arrived to the venue a little earlier. That gave us a chance to enjoy a cocktail at their bar. They have a vast selection, all listed in a menu that looked like a big passport. So funny! The cocktails were really good and that prepared us to have a nice meal. Both he started and the main that I ordered were exceptionally tasty. I was so satisfied that I decided not to skip dessert. And that's where the staff surprised me with the gift of a delicious bitesize brownie. Even the berries were delicious and sweet! The music was very nice and we could enjoy it perfectly as our table was the closest to the musicians. I would totally go back.
This is a great place in city centre if youre a Jazz fan and love cocktails I've found. This is one of the few places with whiskey cocktails. The live music also adds nicely to the ambience. The staff here are polite and quite professional as well. Recommended.
Absolutely brilliant jazz bar. It’s eloquent and classy. The waitresses were so friendly and helpful, it was my partners birthday and it felt like we had stepped into a New York Jazz Bar. The music was mellow and perfect to end the night. Cocktails- mind blowing. We opted for non alcoholic as the bar does cater for those who do not drink. Presentation of the cocktails were amazing, the bar staff were so attentive watched them blitz away the drinks. Atmosphere was relaxing. The Jazz musicians deserve an applause as i enjoyed the music. Ended our last night in Belfast with a treat. If you are looking for something elegant and non rowdy - definitely recommend. We didn’t book beforehand but wise to as it was getting busy. Will defo return once we visit Belfast again. Left a tip for the staff as they deserved it. Compared to London cocktail bars, this was far better!
What a great evening we had at this bar / restaurant. You will need to book in advance. Wonderful food, check out the specials, great cocktails, helpful friendly staff and all with the fabulous sound of great jazz in the background. Next time I’m in Belfast I will definitly be going back to Bert’s Jazz club.
I cannot proceed to explain how amazing my dinning experience was in Bert’s Jazz Bar and the Cocktail Bar. My lovely servant - Mario, was well knowledgeable about the card, and showed great customer service throughout the whole night. His excellent work needs to be recognised. Once I was finished with my my food, Mario offered to take me to the cocktail bar upstairs, which also didn’t disappoint. All of the staff was lovely and very kind. I wasn’t aware of their closing hours on a Sunday, but I was gently reminded, instead of rushed to order, which I appreciate. To summarise - if you are looking for exquisite experience, where you will feel and be treated like royalty, this is it. I will definitely be returning when I’m back in town again!
This was our first wedding at Bert’s Jazz Bar in Belfast. We loved the dark, art deco interior and live jazz music while the guests sipped cocktails and gin. And as we grabbed a few portraits outside the building, with the music seeping out into the street, just for a minute, it felt like we had been transported from Belfast to Manhattan.
Went for Echlinville gin distillery night. Had been to the method and madness one in February so knew I was I'm for another real treat. Service was excellent, food was off the scale and the gin cocktails were amazing. Cannot recommend enough and can't wait until the next one!
A friend and I just went for drinks, we received amazing service the whole night. Cocktails are a must if you go, they have a wide range and are all carefully made. We had 3 drinks each, she had some chips as well which totalled to £90, with a service charge (no complaints as the service was immaculate). It's fully table service and staff will never leave you with an empty glass, whether it's water or alcohol. We'll definitely be back, great for a girls night out or a date night.
Warm and calm. Would love to have a date here lol. Being said that, it's totally fine to come here alone. You can sit at the bar or at the corners, the venue just accommodates. Had a good time.
Do not miss this jazz experience it was a beautiful evening, with amazing live music, food, service everything was perfect!
Tried some cocktails here abnd the quality is really good. Staff are very friendly. I highly recommend it.
We went here for the day after valentines for dinner and drinks and was such a treat! The camembert was delicious and the charcuterie board too. We were tempted by dessert and the crème brûle was good and the baked Alaska too. The wine was on the pricey side for a glass but the whole atmosphere and decor added to the experience. Glad we went and would reccomend for a special occasion. Romantic.
Had lunch last weekend and it was very nice, the attention to detail, fresh ingredients, balanced combination of flavours and overall our palets had a good time with different experience than the casual restaurants in Belfast can only dream of. Not forgotten, the service was brilliant! and well deserved a 5 star 🌟 review. This place is well worth a visit! And not only for a drink and a jazz 🎺 session at night! Definitely recommended!
The food is delicious. The jazz music is brilliant in the background and the man singing the blues after 8.30 was amazing. The staff are very pleasant and very polite. I would definitely recommend.
The most incredible meal I’ve had in a long time. Beef bourguignon cooked to perfection, baked Camembert and French bread was an otherworldly experience. Couple with the jazz music, it was a 5 star experience.
Absolutely gorgeous came with a group of friends from Manchester for a special birthday. Exceeded our expectations in every way food, cocktails, music
All I can say is WOW !! Absolutely amazing ..The food ,the service (Thank you Oisin) The ambience..Everything was way above my expectations.. I had booked for their Rendezvous for Two’3 course meal with a bottle of house wine included.. for the outstanding value of £99.00 for 2 persons.. From the moment we stepped through the doors we where treated like VIp.s There was a lovely young woman (Liv Monaghan) just flown in from Paris who was our artist for the evening..fabulous smooth Jazz music .. It was my partners birthday and they presented him with cake and candle and discreetly wished him happy birthday.. All in all it was one of the best evenings I have ever had .. And the food was exquisite.. I can’t recommend this place highly enough ,and we are already planning to return with friends .. Thank you Berts Jazz club . You where amazing..
We visited Bert’s Jazz Bar in the Merchant Hotel at Christmas for dinner, and overall it was a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely amazing — genuinely gorgeous and full of flavour. Everything we had was cooked perfectly and felt really special. The service was fabulous from start to finish. Our waitress (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name) was warm, attentive and absolutely lovely, which really made the evening for us. We also had cocktails in the Merchant Hotel Cocktail Lounge, and they were fantastic — beautifully made and well worth it. The live jazz music was unreal. It created such a brilliant atmosphere and really added to the whole experience — we loved it. The only small thing I would mention is that Bert’s Jazz Bar itself feels a little dated. It’s still lovely, but it looks much the same as it has for years and could maybe benefit from a bit of a refresh or tidy-up. That said, it didn’t take away from the quality of the food, service or music. Overall, it was a fantastic evening, and we’d absolutely return — especially for the food, service and live jazz.
We came without a booking so we didn’t expect a seat but the ambience was beautiful no complaints there. Only thing I’d complain about was we got there at 9 and stayed till 9:30 and live music was meant to start at 8:30-10 … the performers were there but nothing was played. Also beware it’s pricy, £30 for two drinks but it comes hand in hand you know
Easy ambience with live jazz singer on stage. Very crowded and busy when we got there, so had to linger around the bar. Having somewhere to sit would have made this experience a little more enjoyable. The "doctors orders" cocktail was strong and spicy - great to treat a cold!
Delicious soup starter..I had smoked chicken which was nice..most of the party had steak and no complaints...had to say the French fries with the food just didn't taste great..nearly all of us left them. We giant have dessert as we brought cake. Service was exceptional..party of 17 mix of adults and kids..and we were so well looked after. Made the day very special. Great cocktail list too. It's not cheap but it's a great place for a special event
Bert's is a classy place. The lighting is very subdued. It definitely has a romantic flair. The conversations are animated. The service is on point and with knowledge. We dropped in one night without a reservation for cocktails & jazz. They found us a perfect table very close to the stage. The front of the house man was polished & pleasant. We enjoyed a set of jazz vocal standards accompanied by a jazz trio. The cocktail, gin & wine selection will satisfy. People were enjoying their steaks, their pinot noirs and the whole ambience of the space. We went on a Friday night and it was totally full. You can sit in the bar, enjoy a cocktail & still hear the music. For a change of pace from the pub scene Bert's is a number one alternative.
I recently dined here and had a mixed experience. The French Onion Soup with brisket was the standout—rich, hearty, and flavorful, though I would have loved a little more broth to balance the dish. However, the ribeye was unfortunately quite bland, lacking the bold flavor you’d expect from such a cut. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was also underwhelming, not something I’d be eager to have again. For the price, the food didn’t quite meet expectations, and while the service was friendly, it was fairly average overall. Given the high cost, I had hoped for a more memorable meal
Not bad but too loud and a tad too busy. Couldn't hear conversation even with the server so strained our voices and hoarse today. The server behind the bar asked twice for our order and still got it wrong which wasn't great. Since of the clientele accompanying the guest singer were rude but that's no reflection on the place obviously.
I wont be going here again and i would not recommend it to anyone i know. The food was lovely. The service was fantastic. The Jazz band was insanely loud and I started to get a headache. You cant even hear other people speak to you its that loud. The seating was awful very close to other customers and it just felt very uncomfortable no privacy.
Bert's gets 2 stars for the fact that the food is amazing. However, two issues disappointed. We arrived and were seated promptly and ordered wine while we looked at the menu. We then ordered food which arrived in good time but it was half an hour before our drinks came. We had the camembert to share followed by Moules frites and smoked cod, and finished with baked alaska. The food was incredible but not cheap. Expect to pay £150+ for 3 courses for 2 people with drinks. When the bill arrived we were surprised to see €10/person "stage fee" was added on with no mention of it during booking or ahead of the bill arriving. The music and atmosphere was brilliant and we wouldn't have minded paying an additional fee, should it have been mentioned or suggested as optional.
Me and my partner regularly visit this venue and typically spend several hundred pounds between us on each occasion. On this visit, my partner travelled over an hour into Belfast so we could enjoy the live music and cocktails at Bert’s. When we arrived, the doorman refused us entry because I was wearing trainers and stated that customers inside “spend hundreds of pounds,” implying that we did not belong there. I explained that I am a regular guest who visits multiple times a week and frequently spends a significant amount in the restaurant, although in principle this should not be required for respectful treatment. Despite this, we were still denied entry. As a 20‑year‑old running my own business and earning around £30k a year, I felt that my age and personal style were used to judge and exclude me from the bar’s atmosphere. This left both of us feeling insulted, embarrassed, and belittled at the door. Regardless of any dress code, I expect a venue of this standard to apply its policies consistently, without prejudice, and to treat loyal customers with basic courtesy and respect. *UPDATE* I wanted to share an update about my experience with Berts. A short while ago, I was refused entry despite being a regular customer and wearing smart casual clothing (black jeans, a light top and trainers). I had worn similar outfits on many visits before without any issue, so the refusal felt inconsistent and quite unfair. Tonight, I went back on a quieter Tuesday evening wearing almost the exact same style of outfit — black jeans, a cream top and trainers — and this time I was allowed in with no problem at all. For me, this really confirms the frustration I had: the “dress code” doesn’t seem to be applied consistently and appears to change depending on how busy the venue is. As a regular customer, it makes you feel like the policy isn’t really about standards, but about convenience and money on the night. I’ve always enjoyed the place, but no customer should feel accepted one night and rejected the next for the same attire. Consistency and fair treatment matter.
we went in to get a table for 12-13 there was a very kind waiter who greeted us and said he would check with the host , the host came over and didnt look our way , the waiter then asked him if there were any tables free and came over to us to tell us that there werent we then went and waited outside for the rest of the party to arive we couldnt have been there for 5 minutes before the angry host came out and rudely told us to move on would be 0 stars if i could aside from that the waiter was very nice and accommodating
