A very welcoming and typical local place. The outdoor area is very charming, perfect for summer evenings. The menu features homemade, quality ingredients. We recommend the carp risotto and bigoli with sausage ragù. The mixed antipasto with polenta and cooked shoulder pork are also very good.

We were looking for a true Mantuan trattoria, one that serves pumpkin tortelli with sausage ragù and "standing up," with hot pork shoulder, psina, and pes gatt on the menu. In other words, we were looking for the flavors of grandma's cooking, and we found them. The decor is dated, privacy has been replaced by boisterous conviviality, and for the fussiest of eaters, we should warn you that the restrooms are a squat toilet. But the food is truly delicious. There's parking, just a short walk away. The photo of the donkey stew is still missing, it's exceptional. This unpretentious trattoria serves up authentic Mantuan country cousine, spotlighting the region’s freshwater bounty: tender lake fish, and a host of other once-forgotten delicacies you’ll never see in those trendy, Instagram-chasing spots. Every bite tells a story of local tradition and down-home cooking. If you’re driving from Mantua to Cremona, do yourself a favor and make the detour—Da Ginen is a rare gem that’s not to be missed.

The service is very simple, simple, yet authentically local. I find that Chef Christian brings out the best of himself and his experience in everything he does and creates. He's an artist who pours passion into colors and combinations, and I assure you...a passion that reaches your mouth. Trattoria di una volta, come se ne trovano poche. Cibo tradizionale e ben cucinato e personale cordiale. Ordinando alla carta, e non con pranzo di lavoro, i prezzi sono un po' sopra la media senza per questo essere esosi. È stat una bella scoperta.

We braved the fog to arrive here, drawn by the menu and the rustic feel. We found what we were looking for: a true Mantuan restaurant. It's a shame we weren't hungry enough to try more dishes; we were spoiled for choice. I can recommend the donkey stew, the carp fillets, the exceptional persimmon sorbet, and the sbrisolona cake with zabaglione. If we have the chance, we'll be back.

Of course, we're talking about a trattoria. This implies a simple, family-run establishment, but that doesn't mean you won't find traditional dishes of excellent quality, all homemade. The owners are wonderful, friendly, and helpful. We had the opportunity to eat in an internal courtyard under a vineyard. The price is more than fair, from side dish to dessert (we're talking about frog/snail/catfish dishes), wine, and spirits, around €40.
