Large portions, plenty of coffee/tea to get caffeinated, and pretty much anything you can imagine is on the menu. Come for the chill diner vibes and low-key environment.
Been going for about 15 yrs ,never disappointed, kay and her team are great! Asian own with black southern dishes, they all ready know to put cheese on grits " lol"
I ordered a omelette the broom omelette they offer with some potatoes and toast with orange juice. I enjoyed my meal it was not busy and they service was attentive.
I had a chili jalapeno cheese omelette with the country fried potatoes and the English muffin, bangin 🆒💯😊. I'm sorry to hear this place caught fire 🔥 and they've had to shutdown.
Great prices, good food and good customer service. They mentioned they've been around over 30 years. Will definitely be back!
The food is good and service is excellent. Everyone is friendly. Good neighborhood place to go.
I have been having the Cat Fish breakfast for years! Delicious! Simple, easy, fast, unpretentious! My favorite neighborhood cafe. Diverse and friendly. Perfect for me!
Foods good. Basic diner stuff but good. Service is fast. Actually really like how old the decor is. Its legitimately old...not rustic or artisnal but more of a if its not broke dont fix it kind of vibe. I recommend biscuts and gravy. Nice blast from the past diner vibes.
This is one of my favorite eateries. The food is just really good. I always order breakfast and promise I'm going to try one of the other yummy dishes I see pass me by.
I try and come into broom bush every Sunday when I'm on my lunch break and the staff is always so wonderful and nice and the food is delicious. I highly recommend this place to eat for any occasion. I look forward every week to get to come back here to eat and relax on my break.
Best Breakfast I had in a long time. Always like home style cooking. Reasonable too friendly staff 👍😎
Great food & friendly service! Took excellent care of a large group of 8. Very reasonable prices too!
The breakfast potatoes were nice and crispy, the Denver omelet was stuffed full, and I watched the staff be truly kind to absolutely everyone who came in. What a gem.
Great little breakfast spot! Food was delicious. Good customer service & friendly. I will definitely be back!
Our favourite breakfast place! Exactly what we want: unpretentious, excellent, and moderately priced food like we used to get Down South. Just perfect!
Great value, consistently good food, attentive service. You feel like family when you go there.
5 stars. Please open back up. You all have the best breakfast
This café is just fantastic. What sets it apart is the family-like atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you are taken care of. The food is great, with big portions and plenty of options on the menu. I highly recommend their grits, they're the real deal here! I also loved the chocolate chip pancakes, and my mocha latte was perfect. I don't think you can go wrong here! I wish I lived closer, because I would come here every day if I could.
A place where locals go to have breakfast or lunch. I had a chorizo breakfast burrito which they prepared quickly. I ate it in the Cafe and found it to be quite tasty and large enough to take home for another meal.
Love this place for good comfort food. The staff and owners are all extremely nice. Just a real pleasure to eat here. Food is maybe not great but really really good. Drop in for an excellent experience.
A genuine, authentic little diner, which are a dying breed of course. Friendly folks making good food.
Very glad I came here. Quick service and quality food. I was pleasantly surprised

Solid diner food with a wide selection and friendly staff. Can't ask for more than that from a local diner. Prices are very reasonable by Bay standards for good portions. Open early, which is nice. Almost nothing else in the area is!
Really enjoyed eating at broom bush was especially the only Cafe that could actually cook Grits which is one of my favorite beside my own. Please come back misses Broom Bush 😔😭😞😭😭
True local spot with excellent quality diner-style food and classic Californian dishes. Hits the spot on a weekend morning with hot coffee or a nice weekday afternoon for a quiet, delicious lunch. Lots of selections and service staff is very accommodating to substitutions and questions. Great place to eat and become a regular.
I love this place they've got great breakfasts a little pricey but it's worth it and the staff is the owner and his wife they really appreciate your patronage and they do a super job. Update:. Came back for corned beef hash and eggs. Could not have been better put this place down as one of your breakfast regulars if you're in Berkeley
Takes me back 40 years ago to when it was Choices restaurant. My grandmother used to go in everyday and buy bananas from James Choice. I went the other day and had a great breakfast. Really nice old school breakfast with lots of butter in the grits. Keep places like this alive please.
It was great! The food, the kindness and acknowledgement as my daughter and I walked in the door. It didn't look like much inside, but the food and the friendly 'neighborhood" feel was there. This was my first time there and it is in the area where I am from and grew up.
I just love this little Neighborhood Cafe for breakfast. It's a little dive place that's been around for years. If you're tired of trendy, hipster, overly expensive breakfast out, this is the place for you. A mostly black and African American regular clientele who are well-known by food servers. They do a lot of business, and delicious food is served quickly and in large portions. It's a great bargain for your money.
The breakfast was very good I had a meat lovers omelet, grits a side of corned beef hash, pancakes with lemon hot syrup and butter. Also I had hot chocolate which was fantastic. Customer service was excellent because the food came very fast.
This isn't a trendy place trying to recreate the classic diner. This is an authentic modern version of the classic diner. They have one of the biggest and most varied breakfast menus around, and a good selection of lunch choices. Service is fast and friendly. The coffee isn't gourmet level, but it's okay. (Once in a while the coffee is excellent—maybe the roasters just delivered it or something.) They serve eggs fried, scrambled, and in omelets—with a wide range of trimmings. If you want to substitute something lower-carb for bread and potatoes, you can get a good portion of steamed vegetables—where other places typically give you a couple of slices of tomato. Warning: If you don't specify the kind of cheese you want, sometimes (not always) they use process 'cheese' instead of real cheese—so specify if that matters to you. I've eaten there regularly for years, for the extensive menu, good food, and fast service—and friends that I've recommended it to have later expressed gratitude.

I ordered corned beef hash and pancakes. They were both delicious. Service was prompt and the vibe was homely.
Wonderfully independent with quick friendly service and very reasonable prices. Food is good, typical cafe faire, fresh, and made to order.
No frills, old school diner. Food is good and reasonably priced, service was friendly. Breakfast is served all day.
The food is delicious and a great price for a heavy and hearty breakfast. The basic bacon breakfast, which is my favorite includes 4 pieces of bacon, grits, wheat toast and 2 eggs (your way) for about $10
Solid four stars. Reminds me of breakfast spots back home! Big portions for affordable (for the bay) prices. Food quality didn't blow me away, but there was plenty of it. Will definitely go again.

Very nice Mom and Pop breakfast lunch place. Been in the neighborhood for years. If y'all from tha South, they got Grits for breakfast! They also got all your breakfast favorites and some Asian favorites too. The family that owns this place is very nice.
The food is always good. The front door seriously need a screen door because your constantly sweating fly's and flying bugs away from your food if you need to us the bathroom first cover food and beverage. I called to complain about the above but the person said they were too busy to listen.🤨

ultimate scram lives up to its name, but I got a mouthful of mould eating the toast that came with it. Not hard to find fresh bread in the East Bay!
I went for a lunch break with my nephew. The food was very good and so was the service. That said, the restaurant and restaurant was a bit on the dumpy side.
Cozy neighborhood diner apparently operating since 1985. Friendly, attentive service. Broad menu of breakfast and lunch items. My veggie omelet was in fact full of veggies, though not especially flavorful. Rye toast was good, grits were OK (my bad for ordering them over potatoes, since grits don't do much for me anyway), and the coffee was nice and strong.
I've been to this place with my Dad some years ago. Seems to have the same people working here. The food is good and fast, they have a good breakfast and Ox tail stew. A lot of the Older Generation frequent this place. You also get to ear hustle..
The food was good. However, during my visit, a customer was unhappy because there had been a mixup regarding his order. He was in the wrong, but the staffperson did not handle the situation professionally and it made for an uncomfortable eating experience.
My favorite comfort food location for lunch. I always order for pick up. Have not eaten at location, always return to work to eat. Neighborhood spot, old school location. A lil grimey, but good food.
Food was overpriced and under seasoned. My grandpa always recommended this place so i thought i'd stop by and get brunch. The potatoes were simply fried, no salt or pepper added. The omelet was very much the same but the bacon balanced it out somewhat (along with some ketchup). My mother had the same problem with her dish. For 2 people it came out to $40. Not worth it

I’m dissatisfied. Broom was recommended by a friend. Hugh mistake I ordered a steak with country potatoes and eggs. The best part about the breakfast was the eggs. The food was not seasoned I had to use 6 salt packs to season the food. I requested for my steak to be cooked medium well welp once I recv it, it was well done. If I could give a half of star I would my first and last time eating at broom 🧹
