Great authentic food. Nice atmisphere.
I’ve never been to this restaurant because I live in Orlando Florida. With that said though, you guys just got a shout out on Bob Does Sports and they spoke of your establishment in extremely high regard. That’s all I needed to hear to be willing to post this Google review. Some guys just want it more, and it would appear that you all fall into that category.
What a good find! Such a welcoming and warm atmosphere. The chicken fajitas, guac, salsa and side beans were all my favourite. Incredible flavours all round. Will definitely visit again
What a beautiful restaurant! We came here for my little sister’s birthday and although it was an extremely busy Friday night, we got seated within 20 minutes and were treated very kindly. They sang happy birthday to my sister and gave her a dessert, it made her day! The food was soooo delicious and flavorful. Would definitely return!
This place is legendary, it’s been open since 1931. My parents took us here when we were kids because my dad used to go with his grandparents. Obviously the food is excellent! It has kept its original charm for 90+ years. I recommend the enchiladas, tacos, carne asada.
Really enjoyed this place! We tried the chicken and shrimp tacos, quesadilla, and nachos, and everything tasted great. The food was fresh and full of flavor. The restaurant has a nice old, vintage vibe, which made it feel cozy and unique. The service was fast and friendly. Overall, a great place for good food and a nice atmosphere. Would definitely visit again!
El Coyote is a legend since 1931. They have great Mexican food including their salsas. Our favorite meal is the buffalo tacos. Marinated buffalo meat, with beans and rice. And their chicken enchiladas are ridiculous, they are big and have plenty of chicken on the inside and more on the outside. It's really awesome. Old school charm, it's been in a lot of movies and tv shows. The staff is very friendly, and the food comes out quick. Good for couples or big families. Get there early or you might have to wait a bit.
Here’s a five-star review you can cut and paste for El Coyote Café (7312 Beverly Blvd) — old-school, Los Angeles-style, and full of character. ⸻ From the moment you step into El Coyote Café you sense you’ve wandered into a living piece of LA history. The low-lit dining room, the murals, the sprawling bar and patio all whisper stories of the city’s past while delivering a lively present. The chips and salsa arrive almost immediately, generous and crisp, setting the tone for a true Mexican-food fête. Highlights? Where to begin. The Enchilada Howard, a nod to tradition, arrives bathed in chile con carne — cheese enchilada done the right way. I also opted for the sizzling fajitas, the aroma of grilled onions and peppers mingling with tender strips of steak. And if you’re feeling adventurous, the shrimp fajitas hit the sweet-spot of briny and smoky. Add in the house margarita — potent and refreshing — and you’ve got the kind of meal that sticks in your memory. What makes this place stand out is not just the food but the vibe: decades-old, warmly worn, unabashedly festive. It’s the kind of spot where locals bring visiting friends, families celebrate milestones, and cocktails flow like old times. You don’t come here for minimalist plating or molecular flourishes—you come for real-deal hearty Mexican classics served with flair and embedded in LA culture. If you’re after the best of old-school Mexican in Los Angeles, El Coyote Café hits the mark with style, flavour and a touch of nostalgia. Five stars all the way.
I've been coming here since the 70s! When I was much younger, my friends and I would meet here for a fun evening. There was a time I ate here 3 times a week. The food is STILL my favorite authentic Mexican food around. All the newer, fru, fru designer type of Mexican restaurants don't interest me ! THIS place is legendary! I STILL love everything about this place !
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today, May 5th, marks the celebration of Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862—a meaningful slice of history behind the festive vibes. El Coyote was alive with music, dancing, and the kind of energy I needed to lift the gloom of a cloudy day. The food? Absolutely delicious, as always. And the complimentary shot of tequila (yes, tequila!) added just the right amount of fun. It’s definitely one of those must-visit spots if you’re craving authentic Mexican cuisine and a lively atmosphere.
When you visit, ask to be seated in Rocio’s section. Rocio is a great waitress! My party felt welcomed/at home, no issues with our order/meal and always made sure we were content. I ordered the #1 with a shredded beef enchilada and chicken taco with extra homemade tortillas and flan for dessert.
El Coyote was my absolute favorite restaurant in the ‘80s and ‘90s—I used to go at least three times a week! It was my go-to spot for amazing, authentic Mexican food, and I’m so happy it’s still here, serving up the same delicious flavors after all these years. The history of this place is incredible. Since opening in 1931, El Coyote has been a staple of Los Angeles, welcoming everyone from Hollywood legends to devoted locals like me. The vibrant atmosphere, the classic red booths, and the neon glow—it all feels like home. The food? Still as incredible as ever. Whether it’s the enchiladas, tacos, or those legendary margaritas, every bite is full of nostalgia and flavor. So glad this iconic spot is still standing strong!
There’s a reason El Coyote has been around almost 100 years: the food is great, the prices affordable, and the atmosphere fun. This Mexican restaurant is not “authentic Mexican” but rather Americanized Mexican. So expect tasty tacos, enchiladas, chips with salsa, and margaritas.
Amazing food and a very festive vibe. Love the decorations and style of the restaurant. When we arrive without a reservation, (I don't think the restaurant takes any reservations) we worried if there will be a long wait. It was around 7. And we luckily got a table for 4. Almost all the tables were taken but actually the restaurant was huge. The food was amazing and very generous portions. We really enjoyed the burritos and fish tacos. Will revisit again for sure.
In a word: Homemade This Mexican restaurant felt like I was at my friend’s house just way more people and very busy and noisy with everyone talking! The female servers were dressed in the traditional Mexican style clothes, very authentic and colorful. The service was very good, although it was quite busy. Our food was brought out very quickly after we ordered and it was hot and very good. I ordered the cheese enchilada and it was delicious! We ate almost the entire place of food and that was after snacking on the chips and salsa and guacamole, which, by the way are all homemade! Would I return to this restaurant? You better believe it! I give it two thumbs up!
Carla and Roberto were an absolute dream! They took expert care of us. Every drink order anticipates. Lots of fun. Great food.

Great Atmosphere & Classic Vibes! We had a great time at El Coyote! The atmosphere and decor have that old-school feel—we love spots with history and hope it keeps thriving. The all-you-can-eat chips and salsa were a definite highlight—so good! For our meal, we got the fajitas (too much bell pepper, not enough meat 😔) and the carnitas wet burrito, which hit the spot. Overall, solid experience, and we’ll be back!
Not that great. Much better Mexican food near by. Food is much too salty, way over the top and I love salt. It's just ok

Had not visited in 10 years so was really looking forward to it (lunch on a friday).Well greeted/attended at check in desk. First impression was the restaurant smelled like my grandma's house in Granada Hills (old musty carpet) mixed with delicious Mexican food smell. Server was not very personable at first as he seemed to be by himself running the patio and inside dining area (he did warm up towards the end of the meal). Food was hot and tasty, prices were ok ($9 cup of soup and $8 for beans and rice?). Looking forward to returning someday once they revamp it a little. Sticking to Casa Vega for the moment.

Fajitas that don't come out sizzling served like warm slow service margaritas in a smaller glass . Will not be returning !! Used to be very good their cutting back on quality and quantity .
outrageously priced with poor quality food. Skinny Maragarita is $19.75, 1 chicken taco ala carte is $7+, with tip $36 for a Margarita and taco, completely overpriced.
This place is usually great, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants! Today, table 14, sucked! Front Hostess was great, and place nicely decorated for the Holiday. But our server was, not sure what was going on with her. Didn’t appear happy to serve me and my husband. The tables around us, she was so polite to them. Wasn’t asked if we needed refills on drinks (soft drinks/water), and when I did ask for a refill on a water, she looked at me as if I asked her for a kidney! Didn’t stop once to ask how the food was, which wasn’t that great. My entire plate was covered in melted cheese! I did couldn’t tell where the rice, beans, and enchilada started/ended. It was insane! Cheese overkill!! After I scraped all the cheese off my enchilada, rice and beans, food was ok. Bus boy cleared our table, but our server, again didn’t stop by our table. Continued to skip us, but was being attentive to the tables adjacent to us! My husband and I decided to simply walk back to the main entrance, and have the hostess check us out because our server appeared to not want to provide us service. It was very disappointing, especially, like I mentioned earlier, I like El Cayote, have taken family and friends here, but after today, not sure I’ll be going back. Plenty of good Mexican restaurants in Pasadena.
