Just excellent Nepalese food...a do not miss when in big beer lake...highly recommend
We tried the Nepali food for the first time and we liked it. The food was delicious and price was reasonable. Also I wanted let the restaurant manager know that there wasn’t toilet seat covers. Overall we enjoyed it.
Popped in for lunch and enjoyed ourselves. Nice comfortable seating with nicely cushioned chairs. We got a little table by the window so we could people watch. Lovely little spot in the village. I started with a blood orange margarita which was very tasty and pretty to look at. Then I got the samosas which were very good. Came out nice and hot with a lot of filling crunchy and warm. We had to ask for the lunch menu specials. Then I got the lamb curry. That was very tasty as well! Very nice presentation. You get a little side salad, some cauliflower and potatoes, the lamb curry, and then the lentils and everything was very flavorful. Transports you back to India! Our server was a bit too attentive so we felt rushed, and he wasn’t very friendly & didn’t smile much but he got the job done. Pretty decent prices on the cocktails and drink menu and for what you get with the food it’s pretty well priced as well. Will definitely be back when I get another craving for Indian food!
For my birthday, we were looking for a restaurant in Big Bear and came across this place. I had some doubts at first because the rating wasn’t as high as I usually look for, but I really liked the atmosphere and the vibe, so we decided to give it a try — and I’m so glad we did. The experience was wonderful. The vibe was warm and welcoming, and the food was excellent. We had the tandoori chicken, an okra dish, and lamb — everything was flavorful and beautifully prepared. I also loved that there’s a small Himalayan clothing and gift shop inside the restaurant. They had lovely ponchos and Himalayan souvenirs at very reasonable prices, which made the visit feel even more special. Overall, the experience was much better than we expected and truly memorable — it even inspired me to write this review. I highly recommend this place. 👍
The food was great and came out in a timely manner. I ordered a Hot Toddy, it was great!! My partner ordered an Irish coffee that was made with fresh espresso shots. We really enjoyed our all around experience
My husband’s family has owned property since 1957. We built in 1980 and have been going to the Himalayan Restaurant for 18 or 19 years! I believe it was the Iron Squirrel before they opened their magnificent restaurant! Retired in 2009-2010 as a highly honored Los County teacher, counselor and school administrator! I went there for a couple years, especially when the owner lost her five year old son who was killed in a hit and run accident near Barrett! The whole community showed their support during this horrific time! Devastating! The greatest of the greatest families in Big Bear! They are from from Nepal! The kindest people in Big Bear! So modest! I find myself going to this restaurant two days a week, as the chef has impeccably healthy vegetarian meals which I prefer! The sautéed spinach, hot sauce and garbanzo beans are so healthy, so delicious! Server, General E, is so spectacular and so friendly! I cannot not tell you how much my blood tests have improved since eating the food from Himalayan Restaurant! My husband prefers the Tandori Chicken and Lamb! The family works as a team and all employees are so friendly and gracious! I think the Himalayan Restaurant has the healthiest vegetarian food in all of Big Bear Lake and surrounding cities! I remember how much the family supported Jordan Romero when he climbed Mount Everest several years ago! This family has been blessed by grace, and kindness! Like the Rojas family of Sonora Cantina/ OCI, this family is the Best of the Best in Big Bear! I am so happy to see so many young people Dino g at this restaurant which offers so many healthy options! Again, General E is one of Bug Bear’s greatest servers!!!
We ordered the chicken momos (Nepali dumplings), veggie samosas, and a tandoori mixed grill and apricot naan (full of diced apricots)…everything delicious. Friendly service. Surprisingly good mixed drinks…their whiskey sour is made with the traditional egg white top, which I always like. Prices are typical of Indian/Himalayan sit down dining. No complaints. Will definitely visit again especially because it’s in Big Bear village, and you can’t beat eating delicious food in a beautiful mountain location!!
Our visit to the Himalayan Restaurant in Big Bear, California was a standout culinary experience. Having dined at many Nepalese and Indian restaurants over the years, we found the food here to be exceptionally authentic, flavorful, and generously portioned—perfect for those arriving with an appetite. The dishes were beautifully spiced and thoughtfully prepared, reflecting the care and tradition behind Himalayan cuisine. Despite the restaurant being busy, the service was outstanding. Our server was not only courteous and attentive, but impressively knowledgeable about the menu, helping us make informed and satisfying choices. The entire staff contributed to a welcoming and professional atmosphere that made our evening truly enjoyable. We’ll definitely return on our next trip to Big Bear. What we ordered: 1. Paneer Tikka Masala Indian cheese cubes cooked with ginger, garlic, onion, tomato, and a creamy sauce. 2. Butter Chicken Tandoori-baked chicken dark meat cooked with tomatoes in a cream sauce. 3. Vegetable Mo-Mo Steamed dumplings stuffed with vegetables, served with homemade chutney. 4. Aaloo Paratha Whole wheat unleavened bread filled with special mashed potatoes, cooked on an iron griddle. 5. Paratha Multi-layered whole wheat bread, baked in a tandoor. 6. Chai Tea
Absolutely, incredible and delicious Nepalese food! Literally had a hard time to stop eating. Tried the Mo Mo dumplings - wow! Lentil soup was so good and the mixed grill was absolutely huge and delicious! Chicken Tikka was some of the best I’ve had and the garlic naan was devoured. Fantastic food and highly recommended 😍
There are not many restaurants in Big Bear with a lot of vegan options so we were excited to find this place. We came on a Monday night as there wasn’t much open in the village. We were seated right away and ordered quickly. The food came out very fast and everything was incredible! I appreciated that there were multiple vegan choices to share as well as clearly marked dishes for other dietary restrictions. I would absolutely recommend this place as it has something for everyone!

They were very accommodating and modified my dish into a vegetarian option. My tikka masala was light and creamy, didn’t look as red as a traditional masala but that might be the Nepalese twist on it. My garlic nan was good too, I didn’t particularly enjoy the cheesy Nan ( weird cheese in it and not much of it) and the Himalayan lemonade so just overly sweet.
Located on the main street of The Vallage of Big Bear Lake, this restaurant primarily serves Indian and Nepalese cuisine. Personally, I thought their curry was quite good, although the portion was a bit small, but the accompanying rice was plentiful. As for the roast chicken and lamb, which I also tried, I found them just average; the meat was a bit too dry. The staff were polite and friendly, and the environment was fairly clean. If you're not looking for Western food, you might want to give it a try!
I was delighted to find a Nepali restaurant in the small and beautiful mountain tourist town of Big Bear Lake. It’s a cozy place that combines a Nepali shop, bar, and restaurant all in one. The Himalayan Restaurant was clean, well-kept, and the staff were friendly. I especially appreciated the respectful way they treated their customers. The food was delicious—thukpa, chow mein, and momos were great! It would be even better if they could add more traditional Nepali dishes to the menu.
We went during the busiest part of the day. We were able to sit immediately. We really enjoy the window seat. The naan bread was delicious. The garlic chicken I ordered The tikka masala was delicious .The tikka masala was delicious. The service was excellent. He was so alert when we needed water, and they brought th I can’t wait to return and try aa different cuisine.

We ordered the lamb masala thali, vegetable mo mo and the lamb naan. Everything was delicious. Service was a bit slow. Inside was decorated nicely, but we chose to eat outside.
Fairly mediocre food. I might be willing to give them another chance, but as far as the one meal we had yesterday, the mixed grill items were all overcooked and the lamb curry had rather questionable meat. On the positive note, Mango Lassie was pretty good. Oh and one other thing, I really wish they would clean up/remodel their bathroom...
Food was ok but portions were very small, service was ok, and it was really dark inside. Pretty expensive for the very small portions and we didn't even get full

Update: I had friends visiting and took them here. We were all disappointed with the food. "Lamb" was very dry, chicken burned outside raw inside and everything else was below average. We won't be back. Overall we've had Good experiences here. The food is good, very flavorful, but we think the lamb bbq dish might actually be goat. Either way we've been twice and both times it was delicious. The service is average, nothing special, but food makes up for it. Might be back is up in Big Bear. Ask them to bring warm fresh rice out. Also I don't think they make the naan in house. Try it! you have no choice up here for any other food like this.

I generally avoid leaving negative reviews, but in this case, it’s unavoidable. My family and I visited this restaurant twice today—once for an afternoon snack and once for dinner. The afternoon visit was okay; although we felt the food quality had declined significantly, some items were still decent. The Chicken Pakoda was excellent, but the chicken momos were disappointing and the thukpa was below average. For dinner, we ordered plain Naan, Chicken Chowmein and Tandoori Chicken. The Chicken Chowmein was overly salty, the plain Naan was unusually crispy and the Tandoori Chicken was just okay. What surprised me most was that when the server brought the Naan, it was already cold and crispy. I pointed out the issue and she took it away, asking in return, “you don’t want it?” I said of course we do but only if could get some fresh ones. A few minutes later, another server returned with the same basket of reheated Naan, which was still cold. It’s unacceptable for a restaurant to serve stale, reheated food and fail to replace it when asked. This was my fourth visit to this place in the past 10 years—and definitely my last.
Walked in the door. No one came to seat us. I had to ask someone and it still took 10 minutes even with empty tables. The waiter made sure that we could only order one time because they were busy. Are you kidding me. I'm a paying customer. Food was decent. Not much flavor. Pretty hyped up, tourist trap on the strip in Big Bear.
If chaos and disappointment are your idea of dining, this place is perfect. We waited over 40 minutes for a simple order, only to have everything appear within 3 minutes after we asked—clearly it had been sitting somewhere forgotten. The lamb curry was lukewarm and tasted old. We were told the chicken was “unavailable,” yet the table next to us—who arrived after us—somehow got the exact same dish. When our grilled chicken finally came, it arrived without the sauce. A truly impressive combination of slow service, cold food, and zero organization. Never coming back.
