Today is Sunday October 5,2025 I went in to get something to eat and I wasn't disappointed. I walked in and it was packed like sardines. The smell hitting u at the door saying come get it and I did just that... 2 plates me please first plate Oxtail,dressing,mac and cheese and a side of candy yams and second one turkey wings, dressing and mac & cheese. I wasn't disappointed at all. That food was so delicious I'll be back. Sorry no pictures but y'all already know how them plates be coming and they be coming right.Can I get a Amen. I'll be going back that dressing and candy yams r delicious. Everything is good but those two were my favorite . Don't walk run like Forest Gump🏃🏃🏃🏃ok. I give it a 10 out 10

Me and my husband looked up soul food restaurants in Birmingham while we was up there yesterday . Came across this one and when I say they DID NOT DISAPPOINT ‼️ We got fish smothered pork chops Mac and cheese, cabbage,dressing and cornbread . I’m very picky about my food but when I say everything was great. Definitely making that hour drive today to eat again. 😩🤣

My husband and I came in for lunch and when I say 5s across the board I mean that! The food was Amazing!!!! I had to look in the back to make sure my granny wasn’t back there cooking! The customer service was Outstanding! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly! My husband had the catfish and I had the pork chops, you get more than what you pay for so lunch will be dinner! We will be back!!!

I had the Oxtails over rice,with collards greens,macaroni and cheese and fried corn First off its known as the home of the heavy plate and they didn't disappoint on the portions or the flavor! My Oxtails were seasoned to perfection and falling off the bone,my greens and corn tasted like my grandmother made them and my macaroni was amazing!! Oh,yeah and the Red Velvet and Carrot Cake need to be put in the Desert "Hall of Fame"we definitely will be back soon!! So the next time you're in Birmingham,Alabama stop by and tell them "Garon"sent you!!

Went for Sunday dinner, happened to be our first time visiting. It's a cafeteria style eatery with a small dining area. You can order off the hot bar or off the menu. We had a taste for some dressing and theirs did not disappoint. My husband got vegetables and ordered pork chop fried to order 😋 The pound cake was also good. Go if you haven't been, you want be disappointed.

10/10 I definitely recommend!!! Chef Kiss 💋!! I wanted some good soul food after church, and I came across this restaurant on google. This was my first time here and overall I was NOT disappointed. You will definitely get your money worth. The food was delicious 😋, the wait time wasn’t so bad (have patience though). Staff were also nice and to not have a break since opening whew! (We came around 4pm) Thanks for keeping your cool and patience! Thanks to the owner! He came out and said a few words explaining/expressing his gratitude! Very thoughtful 🙏🏽 May your business flourish above and beyond all that you can imagine!

I brought this rib plate for my husband for his lunch break. He said that everything was so good and fresh, he ate his plate in 5 min. He also said that he didn’t just eat his plate fast because he was hungry but the food was also that good!! The customer service was great as well and I’m one of those people who takes customer service very seriously. We will definitely be buying and supporting them again!

Hands down the best soul food in town! I cook soul food also and this food is just like mine and I love that b/c I’ve tried other places and the food doesn’t compare. This food was made with love and the arm of a granny or auntie that’s been cooking for centuries 🥰 They were quick, the food was fresh and delicious and the country punch is just the right sweet. I most definitely will be back with friends very soon.

I visited here on November 5, 2023 on my way back to GA from MS. My sister insisted the food was good because Darius Cook said it was good and try it out. I ordered the turkey wing over rice with gravy, broccoli cheese casserole, collards, dressing, pound cake and country punch. Be prepared for a line. We waited over an hour but it was well worth it. The plate’s definitely be heavy. I drunk my punch on the road and tried my food when I got home 2 hours later. My sister had the hamburger steak over rice with gravy, green beans, German chocolate cake , cabbage and said it was delicious. My nephew said his Mac/cheese was delicious. He had more food but was excited to try the Mac/cheese. My son said the oxtails were delicious and the seasoning was on point. I wish I had got 3 more plates and more punch. It would definitely be worth a day trip for me. I definitely recommend to give it a try. The workers were friendly. Chef mom was there and she was very friendly. She was controlling the line to keep it moving. Chef came out to talk and informed everyone on the food, the wait and just being courteous. That’s very rare to see. GET THERE EARLY‼️

Chef Powell and his team welcomed our group with open arms! We so enjoyed the generous helpings of delicious food! The sides were all delicious - that Mac n cheese though! A+ Plenty of food to take home and eat another meal later! Chef Powell and his team we hospitable and friendly. Great service and delicious food! Highly recommend!

My husband and I stopped after googling soul food near me. This is a meat and 3 with buffet style, but you can order fried chicken and fried pork chops to order.. I had dressing , candied yams , mac n cheese and greens . My husband had fried chicken wings , mac n cheese and cabbage ..Both came with cornbread . Cornbread is sweet. The stars of the show were the fried chicken , greens and mac n cheese. They were delicious. The rest was good but nothing special. I will come back to try other items. The ladies who served were super friendly..

The food at Oh taste and see is outstanding!! But the service is not great!! The waiting lines sometimes very slow!! Taking more than a hour just to order the food and waiting to get it!! After leaving a tip the complaint was it wasn’t enough!! Enough?? One plate cost 19.00 dollars so a dollar for doing absolutely nothing should be appreciated instead of being ungrateful! Not trying to pay your mortgage off or car payment!! Just saying!! So.next time I visit Oh taste and see no tip for you!!

Went there looking for good soul food, drove out of the way because of the good reviews...food wasn't good, buffet style looked like it was out too long. Ordered a turkey wing, cabbage, and mac-n-cheese. The wing was mostly skin, the rice was bland and swimming in gravy with hardly any flavor. Cabbage was undercooked, mac and cheese was dry. $ 50 for 2 plates and drink. Don't bother

I was turned on to this place by a well known chef who travels to different cities ratio restaurants and he rated this one high and I believed him. Upon entering you are greeted with generic, "Hey, how you doing," while loud gospel music is blasting from the mounted TV. I love gospel but it's too loud and you can't hear their questions about your order. I indicated that I couldn't hear them...This is my first time here & the owner's wife was working the cash register and complained that people were getting on her nerves and I believe she was referring to the other workers but I told her to try to have some patience. She was originally friendly though. I ordered smothered pork chops, mac and cheese, yams, and cornbread. The pork chops and mac and cheese were good THIS TIME (keep reading)... the yams were FLAVORLESS. The cornbread is like a mix of Jiffy and cake mix, which isn't bad per say. I came back the next month to give them another chance, trying to support small business. I ordered smothered (fried chicken), mac and cheese, cabbage, and cornbread. I checked my plate before leaving and it looked like chicken under the gravy. The cabbage was watery and NO FLAVOR and the mac and cheese was just ok this time. I get home and it's hamburger steak instead. I spoke with the owner and he offered to make it right so I agreed to drive the distance and give them ANOTHER CHANCE. I had also sent pics to their Facebook messenger and no reponse on the PINK MEAT of the hamburger steak. I understand people eat medium steak but that is steak and NOT hamburger meat. I went back that Sunday for a replacement and explained to his wife the reason I came very discreetly so no one would hear or that they feel any embarrassment. I was met with rolling eyes from her, while she pointed and said, "Get in line." Another lady indicated to them that she couldn't hear their questions and actually told them the TV was too loud while she tried to order. They ignored it. I ordered the smothered chicken and actually got it this time and it was FLAVORLESS. The gravy tasted like pure salt and oil. The food is INCONSISTENT. The mac and cheese appeared thick on the line with a crusty top but actually was runny in the inside and FLAVORLESS. For bad attitude and NO FLAVOR, I'll pass. I was so disappointed to have spent nearly 20 bucks on a plate then return to have an even more disappointing meal, service, and attitude...and I drove quite a distance for this. The pics are below. I tried 3 times with this establishment...its a no for me. Edit to the Owner's response: My initial tasting wasn't bad, that's why I returned and tried to support your small business. Its strange I can't find the FB messages where I said I "enjoyed" your food. Y'all can't gaslight this review! 😂 The truth is the truth and it will set you free! It's not to my liking and I tried to save you all the embarrassment. I don't find it good and like I said the food is INCONSISTENT. Businesses are subject to reviews. God bless.
