Love this place so much. It's great for lunch and late nights. Outside seating is perfect on a nice day, and the staff is always on point and pleasant. I had the half fried shrimp/half debris po boy and it was delicious. They have a great beer selection as well
The Voodoo Chicken Po' boy is the best tasting sandwich I have ever had in my life. That was amazing. The gumbo was also amazing. I don't know if this is true Louisiana cuisine but it tasted fantastic nonetheless.
This spot really makes you feel like you are in New Orleans! The po-boys are massive and easily fed me for 2 meals. I would highly recommend the voodoo chicken one and my friend enjoyed their burger too!
Driving from Missouri we wanted some Boudin and gumbo, we found this online from searching and I highly recommend the gumbo and the boudin. I had my gumbo mixed with the smoked chicken and shrimp and andoulie. Amazing place and its just a few minutes off the main highway..Will stop here again if im ever in the area again.
It was great it could have been more handicap my grandmother is in a wheelchair or was it too many places we can sit but outside but we did not know that but overall it was a great visit I'm from New Orleans it was very much like back at home both of the gumbo's was good and the bread puddings to die for I will be back and I live 2 hours away from there
Feels like you're in New Orleans. Food was amazing. Service was welcoming. Gumbo and Poboys were best Ive had outside of South Louisiana.
First time here and WOW—this place was incredible. From the decor to the friendly staff and bold flavors, everything impressed us. The bartender was super kind, walked us through the specials, and made great recommendations. We ordered the shrimp po’boy with chicken gumbo and the Viet seafood po’boy with shrimp & okra gumbo. The vibe alone is worth the visit—horror memorabilia mixed with strong New Orleans energy. The po’boys were huge and loaded. Fried shrimp was perfectly crispy and tender, and the remoulade really elevated it. My po’boy had great flavor with just the right amount of spice, and the bread was crisp outside and soft inside. The gumbos were good, but not the star. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu.
We have heard nothing but good things about this place!! We finally made our way to try it this afternoon and it was so worth it. Huge poboys and the fries/hushpuppies are very yummy!! The customer service is also top notch! We will definitely be back soon.
We got the recommendation from a local couple while at Leon Bridges show last night.. Great spot and we enjoyed our Blackened shrimp poboy, fried shrimp poboy & shrimp and andouille gumbo… The boudin was just ok for me, in comparison.. I like a bit more seasoning in my rice, but it was still good and It still didn’t have a chance.. That being said, I also have family in New Orleans and visit 20+ times a year! Keep up the great work! I know why we got the recommendations!!
The food was fantastic. The decorations are cool. I had the surf n turf and a boudin link. Both were very good. The roast beef was tender, and the Shrimp was fried well, and crispy. The sauce on the surface n turf po boy was delicious as well. Some coworkers said their gumbo was the best they had ever eaten. The pecan bread pudding for dessert was an excellent dish! Cool vibe, great food, go out of your way to eat here.
This place is a lot to take in, stuff is everywhere and it's a great NOLA vibe! I had potato salad, shrimp and andouille sausage gumbo which was delicious! The iced tea is a good strong flavor. I would definitely drive around the twisty winding roads of the Avondale neighborhood to eat there again! I went on a Wednesday about 5:30 and it was not too busy, plenty of parking around back.
If you are looking for an authentic slice of the Big Easy while in the Magic City, look no further. The gumbo is good and even when made with bay shrimp, the flavors of the trinity are detectable by the third spoonful. The Boudin is flavorful and homemade. Much better than store bought. The top-shelf bloody Mary is the perfect brunch cocktail. So, when you're hungry in your Subaru, you can do much worse than Rougaroux. They have sandwiches, they have stew. Serving all, even loupgaroux.
Really enjoyed this restaurant. Friendly staff. First time visiting and they recommended so interesting dishes. Chicken was very flavorful and tender. Atmosphere was very relaxing. Found a table on the inside near the corner. Not a very big restaurant on the inside but it feels very cozy. Would definitely visit again when I am in Birmingham.
If you're looking for a truly exceptional dining experience, look no further! This place is definitely worth going out of your way to get there. Everything on the menu sounds incredible, and what we tried yesterday was to die for (and trust me, that's not an exaggeration!). My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We'll definitely be back! Plus the decor is too spooky-cute!
I love the Rougaroux. I've had at least a dozen meals here and have never been disappointed. Today we met friends there who are frequent visitors to NOLA but had never visited the Rougaroux. We got gumbo, hush puppies, red beans & rice, and some poboys. The food was a treat for the taste buds (thank you Amanda! ❤️). Service was excellent as usual. The atmosphere and decor are south Louisiana dive perfection - the only thing missing is shells instead of gravel underfoot. The Rougaroux is a BHM jewel.
yummie!!!!!! very small establishment a little hidden gem in a neighborhood! everything we tried was delicious! gumbo was a little too fresh but after a few hrs when the flavors marinated (my leftovers) it was soo good! both sausages were good chicken&pork! oyster po-boy was amazing! & the sandwich (can't remember the name) was amazing as well. oh & my friend had bread pudding & potato salad as well which she said was delicious we spent about $80 which wasn't bad for all the food we got plus drinks! You won't be disappointed I've been craving both sandwiches every since & that was about 3wks ago! lol
This place is a vibe. Scenery straight outta some iconic scary movies. They have indoor/outdoor seating is a little small on the inside, but you're not sitting on top of others. It was card only, and the wait time to carryout was reasonable considering the crowd. Food was good, hot, and fresh, and I will be back to try more menu items. Pictured is the bread pudding and Rockefeller Poboy.
I needed some gumbo today so I headed to Rougaroux. This small restaurant has a great selection of Cajun food, with inside and outside dining. Every plate that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. I loved the gumbo - very flavorful, choc-ful of bite-sized yummines. The collards were too sweet and rich for my taste - couldn't finish the bowl. Definitely one of the better Cajun restaurants in town
It looked like it would have been a very cool place with a great Cajun menu as well as an attractive lunch special. However, I’ll never know how good it was because nobody acknowledged me when I arrived. I stood there for a few minutes and members of the staff were chatting with each other and paying no mind to my existence. I then figured I would just sit myself down and waited for a little while at the table and no one came over to me, so I just up and left. I’m giving them two stars instead of one because this place looks like it could be wonderful, if only they paid attention to their customers.
Does this establishment pay for reviews or what? This is a $24 dollar basket, no drink. Oh you want tarter, that will be .50, remaloude another .50, what you see in the picture was $28 out the door. 2 tiny pieces of catfish that you cant pick up. Just falls apart, breading doesnt stick to it at all and is an absolute soggy puddle. A dozen or so frozen crinkle fries that weren't even up to par with any fast food fries out there. You have to go to the bar to order and they ask for a tip right then. You have to clean your own table, go get your drinks, and take your number back to the counter when done. 🤔 I will be honest that I am not from around here. The decor was great but there was nothing even good enough to say is was ok about anything else. Toilet seat was broken off, paper towel dispenser broken, rusted ducting falling out of ceiling, etc. Good luck.
I ordered catfish and fries. How hard is it to mess up something so simple? The Rougaroux brought me out HARD, overly CRISPY burnt pieces of fish. I sent it back for them to remake it. I should have sent back the french fries as well. For $26 a plate- I absolutely expect better quality. I should have gone to Pappadeaux. Also, I noticed, the pieces of fish are small, and they load it up with tons of batter to give the illusion of a big piece of fish. How do you overfry french fries? The oil was clearly too hot ,and they were rushing in the kitchen. French fries were like little potato chips. Won't ever go back to this establishent.
