On a Road Trip with my kids and happened across this little gem of a place! The coffee was fab, especially the Apple Pie Latte, OMG! Delicious! And the food, crazy yummy! But best of all was the staff, super happy and helpful! They had forgotten the poppyseed muffin we ordered, and when I went to tell them they gave us an extra for the trouble. And we devoured them both of course! Thank you!

Favorite dish is the fried chicken sandwich! Only thing i get when i go there but I’m confident everything else would be delicious.

Beautiful spot. Spacious manicured garden patio with comfortable chairs. Friendly service and a great menu. The ham and cheese quiche is the best quiche I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back ASAP with family and friends.

Super clean and neatly maintained is the dining area at Bolton Bean. The food is delicious and prepared quickly. Tai ice coffee is a nice treat. Parking is also easy and plentiful. Takeout is available in person or by phone. Takeout food or drinks are presented on a nice tier metal shelf waiting for your grab and go. Easy. Fast. I enjoyed my meal at Bolton Bean.

Stopped here on our way to Maine. This place was SO delicious. We got the curried chicken salad sandwich, Belgium waffle, kids Mac n cheese, kids peanut butter jelly, and chicken bacon rach sandwich. All of them were delicious. The service was friendly and quick. Really cute decor inside too and lots of tables outside to eat. 100% would recommend!

If i could give a 4.5 i would, but this is such a cute and cozy little place I'll give it a 5. The espresso is strong, and they made me a decent maple latte. I wish they'd have added a little more maple syrup to balance out the taste, but the coffee was good, so it's more just personal preference. They have some pastries (chocolate croissants and muffins), and those were pretty good. I would have opted to warm the chocolate croissant to make it even better but not bad. They have indoor or outdoor seating, so you can come in and relax or go outside and relax. If I'm in the area again, I'll surely be back here with the family.

I like the coffee here a lot! I am disappointed to say though, for those with more “colorful” pallets, I found the bacon, egg, and cheese to be rather bland. The bacon was amazing, and the egg was cooked to perfection the old-school way, but the bagel and the eggs themselves just didn’t have a ton of flavor, and beware getting bagel sandwiches to go as they get soggy rather quickly under the foil. But MAN is the coffee here good, and their pesto chicken sandwich is fantastic! I also have nothing but good things to say about the staff.

The Bean is on my way to work, and whenever I know I'm going to need something special to get myself through the day, they are always there with delicious local coffee and artisian breakfast sandwiches. I can order online in advance before I hop in the car, and thirty minutes later it's ready for me to pick up when I get there. It's the perfect way to fit a delicious breakfast into a hectic schedule. Plus the staff is super friendly and I can always stock up on bags of local beans to make at home. Very grateful for this place overall.

This place is a gem!! Stopped for lunch on the way to Maine from New York. Very good coffee, excellent sandwiches, and a lot of gluten free options!! An amazing, welcome find along a stretch of non-fast food restaurant desert!! It's close enough to the highway junction to make it a pretty quick, delicious stop if you can't linger. Skip the chains and diners on the highway. This is just as easy and way way better!! Also, it's cute but not small, and you don't have to wait forever. The service is cheerful, and we could eat outside on a cute stone patio, which means we could keep our dog with us while we ate, instead of having to eat our sandwiches in the car in the parking lot!! Definitely recommend this place. We will be stopping here every time we need to pass by.

I LOVE The Bean! As a resident of Bolton, I am a regular here. Excellent coffee, great food, nice staff, comfortable indoor and outdoor seatings. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. They have even done a stellar job during COVID. For take out, you can order and pay online and your order will be waiting for you when you arrive. For eating in, only outdoor seating available during COVID, spaced apart with cleaning products and hand sanitizer for your use. Also easily accessible off 495, so if I'm heading on a road trip, I often take sandwiches and coffee to go. Love love LOVE The Bean!

Bolton Bean is beautiful and spacious, with elegant hardwood floors that sound resoundingly underfoot when you cross them. The roast is delicious: hand-roasted beans from at least four Massachusetts independent roasters. Buttery-soft blueberry muffins. Modern music at a tasteful volume. My tire popped nearby and I pulled in to Bolton Bean's parking lot for what turned out to be a four-hour wait for help. The day was bright, but frigid. I had never been there before. But Jess and Travis assured me that I could wait as long as I needed until the tow truck arrived, and I never felt rushed or unwelcome for a single moment. I felt right at home, in fact. I recommend Bolton Bean for its wonderful, study-like ambiance, for the quality of its roast and cakes, and, most of all, for the wonderful humanity displayed by Jess and Travis.Thank you!!

It was my sister and I first time here today, we will be working in the area for the next few months and stopped in for coffee and sandwiches. The coffee was quite good and the " vermonter" breakfast sandwich I had was delicious. It was an hour and a half past the time for the cutoff for breakfast sandwiches however they have made a breakfast sandwich for me anyway. Thank you!!! The Cafe has a nice home style feel to it, the hardwood floors gleam, The ceiling has the appearance of a textured antique metal ceiling. The Cafe was spotless during our visit and after they were done with a customer rush a few of the crew members immediately got to work returning the used spaces back to the spotless condition. This will be a regular spot for coffee and sandwiches!!

Great menu with a variety of options. Casual comfortable environment. They cut up my 1yr old grilled chicken which was awesome and gave me a little more time to eat. Kid friendly and they have changing station which helps a lot. The chieftain was so good. We'll be back.

Wonerful little shop for breakfast or lunch in a great location about half mile off I495. Bright and clean with good coffee - yum. Service can be slow on weekends as is not unusual anywhere. Bagels and eggs and pastries were all very good. Parking lot out front but it can get full. So glad this is here.

Bolton is a pretty small town but that doesnt mean you cant get any good food or coffee there. Although the place is centered around coffee you can still get a good arnold palmer and food here. Not much else to say, 10/10 would recommend if you are in the Bolton area.

We stopped on our way through going north and really enjoyed it! Good variety of non-dairy milks, delicious mocha latte and chai, very tasty oatmeal. Service was great and quick, would highly recommend!

Had a warmed chocolate croissant while passing through on a bike ride. I'd expected just a run of the mill coffee shop pastry, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was, it was also pretty fairly priced. Very nice environment would definitely come again if in the area.

This was my second time at this establishment, and I had a better experience than my previous one. Please note, my only issue was with a quiche I had ordered before. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but I compared it to other items that my partner and I ordered, and it was smaller and didn't stand up to the breakfast burrito and the crossaint sandwhich. Could've just been that day, but back to my experience today. Again, I love the atmosphere this cafe has. It's very relaxed and open with some cool faces behind the counter. Honestly, that's really all you can ask for. The staff is chill and attentive, and they pay close attention to details. This time, I ordered the chicken bacon ranch sammich, and my partner ordered the burrito again. It's pretty good guys. One vanilla latte and an caramel iced coffee later, and we were on our way to a very pleasant brunch 10/10 would recommend 👌🏽

A friend introduced me to this adorable coffeehouse before I lived right by it; I am lucky enough to now live a 7 minute drive, and perhaps 25 minute bike ride, from it. They have the best matcha almond milk lattes ever, and their large, hot size is very large - a big plus for me :] It's very cozy inside, and they have a lovely outside patio area. My fiance and I pre-order and pick up our bevvies every Saturday before our grocery run. Highly recommended!

Came here on vacation and was pleasantly surprised! I have a gluten allergy and they had gluten free bread AND wraps. The staff came out when something I ordered had gluten in it and was very kind and accommodating to help me adjust my order before they started cooking. Coffee was amazing and all locally roasted as well!!

One of my all time favorite coffee shops. I am moving to the area and finding my go-to coffee shop is always at the top of my list. This is the place!! I got a falaffel wrap and a maple pumpkin ice latte...both were amazing. Staff and atmosphere were great and I love stopping in on my way to work. 10/10 recommend

Delicious food - the Vermonter is the one of the tastiest breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I stopped by on a whim to grab lunch on the road and, wow I am so happy I did. Bolton bean has a great menu, welcoming atmosphere, and very friendly staff. The best part, the food. I got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and it did not disappoint. It was bursting with flavor, perfectly wrapped, and the bacon was the best I ever had (usually in sandwiches it’s all fatty or undercooked, but not here it was the perfect crisp). I highly recommend a try and I will definitely be coming back!

Bolton Bean is precious, and I'm lucky to live close and come here often. They take pride in every aspect of the establishment, always making improvements. The regular menu is excellent, obviously constructed with a great deal of care, and ingredients well sourced. The Specials menu is frequently updated. Everything is reliably excellent quality. Today I had a po boy sandwich off the Specials menu, and it was pretty much perfect. I usually get a lavender latte, but today they had a vanilla rose latte on their menu that I tried, and it was outstanding. I hope you come here to see for yourself. Bon appetit!

On a beautiful spring day, my friend and I stopped in for lunch. Sandwiches were huge and served with a bag of chips...my choice was the spiral ham melt. No way could I get that one down in one sitting, so half of it came home and was reheated for dinner. We ate outside and 'people watched'. Really pleasant and very filling lunch.

Went 2 separate times. I had the quinoa bowl the first time, and it was soo yummy. It was quinoa with tomatoes,red onion, avocado, and an egg on top with the Green Goddess dressing.The Green Goddess dressing should be sold by the gallon. The second time, I had the breakfast burrito, and it was delicious,as well. Excellent coffee, too

Came here with my wife for a cool October Saturday date. It had a dedicated parking lot, outdoor seating, and indoor seating (we chose this due to the cozy atmosphere). The food was delicious- Signature Bean (breakfast sandwich) and peanut chicken bowl (delish comfort food!!!). Cafe au lait with their home light roast complimented the food perfectly. Will definitely return. One less star due to their indoor trash bins overflowing (albeit it was a busy brunch time).

I read great reviews and had to stop by to see for myself. It is true. Great food, staff is attentive and friendly, atmosphere is relaxing and hip. Plenty of seating inside for about 50 people and 40 outside in shade and sun. Not all tables outside have umbrellas on sunny hot days. I will come again. I had breakfast burrito and had no additional meat added. Perfectly cooked and excellent taste.

Located on the busiest street in town but step inside and you'll think your on a back country farm road. The setting is spacious and comfortable with earth tone modern color schemes. The blend of trendy and country motifs create an atmosphere you wont want to leave. The food is quickly hand prepared with high quality ingredients and packed full of deliciousness. The coffee is of the best sourced beans and is rich in flavor. Bring a book, a laptop or facetime a long lost friend, you could spend hours here without knowing how much time has passed. What a hidden gem in a seemingly sleepy/rural town! Beautiful outdoor seating area, interior is comfy and stylish, and the menu is top notch. Absolutely recommend The Vermonter. This is a hard review for me. I want to love this place, as I live less than a mile away. The staff are nice, always super friendly and accommodating. Especially the young guy that works on the weekend. The atmosphere is very nice. The food is a 3, good food - nothing extraordinary, but a bit over priced for the quality. The coffee, however, is where my problem lays. It is truly terrible! I love coffee, I'm a coffee drinker. I can't explain my excitement when I saw a coffee spot was opening in Bolton. However the coffee here has a terrible sour flavor. I like strong bold roasts, and the coffee is strong, but the flavor is disgusting. The kind staff guy even let me try a number of things one day when I told him this (coffee, latte, americano), and every one of them had the same awful flavor! I don't get it, but I really wish they would change their coffee. I'm amazed more people aren't commenting about this. It keeps me and my family from being regulars, because I know if I come here for breakfast I am going to have to stop for coffee on the way home. It's also very odd that a coffee shop would be closed on Sunday’s. UPDATE: June 2021, time for a score increase here! I tried their coffee again for the first time in a while. The owner / manager guy, was once again super nice and accommodating. I explained what I was looking for, essentially an iced caramel latte with extra espresso shot, extra ice, less milk. (Yes, I’m super picky.) It was exceptional! He even melted the caramel into the espresso shot, so it blended wonderfully into the drink. A nice touch. My kids love the fruit smoothies. And the peanut butter chocolate cookies are to die for. The food could still use some nuancing in my opinion, some items are better than others, and they forgot the bacon on my sandwich last week. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. But we are quickly becoming regulars! Definitely worth a try for coffee lovers!

Very good coffee. Avoid a bagel with cream cheese. The bagels are not always fresh, definitely refrigerated. That's fine when it's a heated breakfast sandwich which are good. But if you order a bagel solo with cream cheese, the lack of freshness is obvious. That said, coffee is very good, atmosphere is a 5!

Update - 3 years later we decided to give this place another try to see if it had improved and we were delighted. Both our sandwiches were delicious with all the right ingredients and freshly made. We will definitely be back. Original Review - 1 star 43 minutes from the time we ordered until we received a pastrami sandwich and a Reuben! So glad we weren’t starving or in hurry. The pastrami panini was good although it had way too much stone ground mustard in it and the pastrami was all mounded in the middle of the sandwich. The Reuben had no thousand island dressing and my first bite was sauerkraut and no corn beef. Lo and behold the corn beef was mounded in the middle of the sandwich and the pickle was soggy. What a disappointment to think it could take this long for sub-par sandwiches. Too bad as this place looked like it had great potential. We won’t be back.

For me, it's just a bit pretentious, but beyond the "creative" breakfast and lunch offerings, I love this place! I can't really afford to eat like this often, and I haven't sampled everything, so you be the judge. It's certainly not a DD, or SB. The staff is very friendly but the service can be slow, so I wouldn't recommend meals if you're running late. Plan this stop when you want a relaxing foodie-adventure!

Love the outdoor seating, food is on par with similar establishments. A bit crowded at peak times, meaning special breakfast a lunch orders (which are all made-to-order) will cut into your harried break times. I feel it's worth the wait.

The food was very good. I had a salad, nice and fresh, and my wife had a warm sandwich. And we tried a chocolate almond scone which was delicious as well. But we came at the tail end of the lunch rush and had to wait a bit for our food. Not super fast but worth waiting for.

First time at this establishment today. WOW!!! My drink was the best beverage I’ve ever had in my life! I gave 4 stars because I waited around 15-18 minutes for a single sandwich (which I believe was because of the orders before mine being MASSIVE) The sandwich I had was delicious albeit burnt a bit. Loved what I got regardless! Time and burning of my sandwich was my only gripe.

Great place to stop for a bite. I took my order to go and sat tucked away in the upper level outdoor seating area. Specialty (non-alcoholic) drinks are amazing. The smoothies are not made with real fruit, like many places but decent. Staff are friendly, quick to get your order up without rushing you.

I meet friends here for coffee. Today I tried the breakfast bowl and it was delicious. Eggs bacon avocado peppers etc. Tasty. My friend had avocado toast and she said it was OK. Cheap on avocado and nothing special.

The restaurant itself was very nice. Clean and well put together. Plenty of seating options including tables, high top seating, and couches/chairs. I enjoyed my coffee and breakfast sandwich. Highly recommend the Vermonter! My only complaint is that as a new parent there wasn’t a changing table in the bathroom for me to change my newborn, so be prepared for that if you bring a young child.

I think the espresso can be better... The coffee was a little too acidic for an espresso. The sandwich I had was not exceptional. The egg and bagel for the sandwich was dry. However they do have some good service. Edit: I saw in one of the other reviews a reply from the owners saying that they had the George Howell coffee and now I understand why the espresso tasted as it did. It is the same as the Blackbird Cafe in Acton and their coffee also leaves much to be desired.

Sandwiches and salads are great; well thought out and executed. The drip coffee, both regular and dark roast… invariably tastes like roasted cardboard water. If they got rid of the roasts they’ve been using for a couple years (Union Coffee…? Uncertain) it would probably make all the difference. So no shade on owner/operators, just odd-tasting drip coffee. I’ve had about 5-7 cups before posting this, so this isn’t a bad batch or pot.

Really wanted to love this place. It’s local and right on my drive to my new job. Decided to give it a second chance after my breakfast sandwich was made incorrectly. After waiting 15min for a veggie wrap ordered without olives, I jumped in my car to head to work. So disappointed because my first bite was a mouthful of black olives! Had to throw the whole thing away.

My husband + family used to own a small coffee roastery - we’re always looking for a sweet new spot to try! We were so excited to stumble on this spot during our recent road trip. Pros: Amazing atmosphere! Beautiful location and tastefully done, really enjoyed the location itself. Minimal wait, easy parking. We didn’t order ahead, but loved they had that option as well. There was a wide variety of options for both breakfast and lunch, as well as a prepared pastries ready to go. Very nice outdoor spot to sit also. Middle of the Road: We both got a meat / egg / cheese on a croissant. Yummy, didn’t wow me. Extremely comparable to a Tim Hortons sandwich. Fair prices. We spent $25 for two of us, which we thought was reasonable for two specialty coffees and breakfast. They also source more local ingredients. Cons: The coffee. My husband ordered a café au lait, and I an iced latte. Café au lait tasted very under-roasted. My latte seemed quite bitter, improving some with a flavor shot but I didn’t want to just mask the coffee flavor with additional flavoring. All in all, we ended up taking 5-6 sips total and picked up some new coffee at the next rest stop. Overall: 2/5. Decent spot, but highly variable depending on your coffee preferences.

Cappuccino was undrinkable. Bitter and very little milk. How could a coffee shop have such bad coffee?

I never write these reviews but I will never come back here. I placed a door dash pickup order when I arrived the food was ready so I kindly asked about the coffee (the woman at the counter was literally just looking at her apple watch) she rolled her eyes and said "oh well you're early to pick it up" literally huffed and puffed while she made my latte which was missing the flavor shot I asked for. I didn't go back to have her fix it. I am honestly shocked at how rude she was.

For the last five times I have ordered online and picked up at the shop, my sandwich order has been wrong. The mistake that is made the most is egg keeps getting left on my breakfast sandwich when I request for it to be removed in the app. One time I ordered an avocado bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich, and I got avocado with sriracha sauce. I kid you not. When I asked them to remake my sandwich on one of these occasions, the person I spoke to merely took my sandwich and handed it to the kitchen. I love going here and the coffee is great, usually the food too, but the Friday morning staff are definitely struggling to provide a good customer experience.

Easily one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. We ordered breakfast and waited over an hour for our food. Even after following up three times, we were given no clear answers and still had to wait. Completely unacceptable.

Pair rude service with BAD espresso and you get I will not return ever. I clearly ordered a Cortado for Here ... Here meaning a real cup. You know the ones you have warming on your espresso machine. I was handed my Cortado in a paper cup to go .. I refused my cortado and said I ordered it for here . The Barista then dumped the cortado in a mug and spilled it all over the cup and Saucer and said here you go all set .. this was clearly the barista's error and not mine .. For here was repeated twice by me and the person taking my order ... I will never return here again . don't believe the positive reviews . The coffee sucked ..no after taste no crema weak roast

First time visiting the Bolton Bean today was a very frustrating experience, and I won't be back. We waited in line to order, only to find out they were out of our selection. No big deal, that happens. We courteously got out of line to avoid holding up the people behind us, to come up with a back up order. We wait in line, again, give her our new order only to be told they were also out of that order... and then the women up front decides to inform us of the other 5 or 6 items they were out of. No apology for not informing us the first time. To double the frustration, the staff did have a "sold out" sign over one item on the specials board, so they definitely seem to have a simple solution available to them. None of the items we tried to order were labeled as sold out. FWIW, it would be helpful to avoid such bad impressions to have staff either put a sign up informing customers of all the items you are out of or, to let customers know of the items they are out of before they try to pick out a different selection. Place looks cool, food looked good, but that was lazy and super indifferent customer services that resulted in a total waste of time. 1 star because I can't put zero
