Nothing but love for this place and their amazing lunchbox deal! However I am so disappointed that they seem to have changed their cookie recipe. The cookies used to be so soft, warm and gooey, with maybe streaks of caramel. The cookie I had today (send pic/slide) was crunchy and a very different experience. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD COOKIES!
First time, cool place and wonderful service. My friends steak dinner was good. I had limited options as a plant based diet. Main entrée didn't have any vegan options. They had mushrooms pizza which was good. We loved our experience but I wish they had choices for vegans. Gave 4/5 for food based on vegan choices but for quality of food I would give 5/5
Best Mashed potatos EVER in a restaurant. Him vibe and great venue. Plenty of outdoor, open air bar, traditional or even stand light atrium in the center for all seating preferences. Our server Tessa was beyond fantastic. Well informed, flexible and attentive. Six stars! Cocktails were great and the martinis were generous, perfectly dirty with real olive brin (not the bottle substitute) and our food was fantastic. Short ribs, oysters and yucca fries were all amazing. As mentioned the mashed potatoes were phenomenal. Order a second batch given they were only $7. Yes, $7. They put the big fancy steakhouses to shame on price and quality. Perfectly creamy, firm, butters starchy but not overso they were amazing. Defintely a fun place with great food and drinks. Will defintely be back!
What an awesome creative restaurant. I've been encouraged to go here for years and finally made it and was not disappointed. The owner Theo took time out of his busy morning to make sure that everything was perfect. We had a sampling of many brunch plates and everything came out fresh and attractive on the plate. I look forward to coming back for dinner. Plenty of room for large parties and festively decorated for the holidays
It's getting harder and harder to find dollar oysters, but to find them, and they are of perfect quality, is like winning the lotto. Publico has an innate eclectic charm derived from its unique space nestled in a modern structure and adorned with vibrant plantings. Part of the space takes up the brutalist atrium of its host building, offset with hanging plants, flowers, that conjure images of Mediterranean life. I imagine this would be great for a private party. The tap beer is ice cold and fresh from clean lines, but before I could order one, I was served a tall glass of ice water without asking, which really hit the spot. For 12 bucks I was presented with 12 perfect PEI oysters, each was a burst of fresh sweet sea flavor. Wish I lived closer.
Atmosphere was great. Had instant liking going in; nice wooden decor and a welcoming bear(?) that was memorable. Staff were so friendly! Menu had a relatively good selection of typical brunch. They did a great job serving items hot and freshly cooked. Had that pleasure of having a home-cooked meal served immediately near the kitchen, and I really liked how my Western Omlette had melted cheddar cheese inside and served while nicely hot. The potatoes for the side and the fried chips were VERY GOOD. Actually the side potatoes that came with my Omlette was my favorite part of the meal. Very well cooked, with a tinge of crispy surface, not salty but still a good balance of spices. Loved it. And the juice they served for our sparkling wine - seemed like real juice. Added sweet and tangy, refreshing fruity flavor, so I really enjoyed my drink. The donuts were not sweet (tasted more like pretzels) but they went well with Nutella. I found the Salad selection pretty typical and limited in choice, so did not get one since nothing stood out to me. But I wished there was a way for me to add more veggies, e.g. in my Omlette. Wonder whether there would be options to make things a little healthier (e.g. choice of Salad as side instead of default potatoes, though got no regrets). French toast was bit bland but the maple butter was tasty. Overall really enjoyed my time here. Came out satisfied both in my belly and spirit.
A MUST GO PLACE!!! I love this place. I have lunch twice a week here. The food is incredible and the staff are the best. They make an amazing cocktail as well. I haven't had a thing on the menu that didn't make me want more. Also, Theo, the gentleman running the place is the best. Such a nice guy, he makes you wanna come back. If you're in the Southie area or looking for a great place to eat and have a nice time, definitely check this place. You won't be disappointed at all
Was on the hunt for breakfast on the 4th of July, and every diner in town seemed to have taken the day off. Just when I was about to give up and settle for fireworks and hunger pains, we found Publico Street Bistro—and thank the breakfast gods they were open. Even though it was lunchtime, the welcoming staff didn’t even flinch at my simple request for a breakfast pizza. They made it happen with a smile, and let me tell you… it was so worth the hunt. Perfectly done, delicious, and absolutely hit the spot. The place itself is beautiful—great setup inside and a lovely outdoor area that makes you want to linger. Between the food, the vibe, and the kindness of the staff, Publico turned my desperate breakfast quest into the highlight of the day.
The place was fantastic. The staff was awesome. Everything was great came in there mid morning after Valentine’s Day. Had the cheeseburger hash next time I’m gonna have the hanger steak for sure.
Brunch was amazing. Went on a dreary Sunday afternoon and sat in the garden. The atmosphere in the garden makes you completely forget about the outside. Food and drinks were equally great. Avocado Toast was my favorite part of the whole brunch.
We celebrated a Bridal Shower at Publico on June 4th, 2022 and I wanted to share how fabulous the experience was. From the moment I walked into the space I was blown away by the decor and the atmosphere and even though we took up a large amount of space , each area felt like it’s own little vibe. Tina the manager was AMAZING! She handled everything gracefully and seamlessly even into the evening when things started to shake up into a very popular bar party. Alex our server was absolutely amazing as well and was professional and so hospitable. I will certainly be back to Publico to party and will mention the venue to all my friends who are looking to have a special event. Cheers!
We went there for brunch to celebrate a birthda, a group of 18 undecided women🤦🏾♀️ We had a good time, the food was great and the cocktails even better. The server was very nice and attentive. Check them out and you won't regret.
Love the awesome service! The owner Theo is the greatest man of all time!!! They have the greatest smash burger in the world! I definitely recommend it. The whole atmosphere was immaculate and the food was exquisite. My mom's friend got the Hot Chicken Benedict and she loved it!!!
$1 Oyster Thursdays! Enough said xD Service is exceptional. We had to sit at the bar since no reservations were made but the staff were friendly and accommodating! Will be coming back for 3-course $38 for Tuesday/Wed in the future!
Delicious steak tips & mashed. I also got the arancini rice balls that came with some type of truffle sauce (delicious) and a chicken Cesar salad which was also amazing and it was also a giant portion. Very cool atmosphere inside. Looks like a ton of spade inside with different atmospheres throughout the space. Looking forward to trying some more food items especially their pizzas.
Nice gastro pub in South Boston. It's better than nearby Tavern. Great buffalo wings and an interesting spin on Thai chilli wings with good heat. Raw beef tartare with delicious with quail egg cracked on top. Crudo was decent but I wouldn't get it again. My brother in law is a pizza aficionado, and he said this pizza was amazing. Cold beer also!
Grabbed a late lunch here, was delicious. Asked the question but knew the answer, it is individually owned- a chain just can't do it this well. Lunch, so didn't try the cocktails, but BLT (with at least 6 slices of bacon) and beet salad. Both were perfect portions. Decor is well done, this would be a great place for dinner... large enough and well spaced tables for an enjoyable evening. Well worth a stop of you are in the area.
South Boston's best spot with a new Ski Lodge pop up for friends or date night, is Publico Boston . #southboston They bring the ambiance and creative favorites like Adult Gingerbread martinis and hot chocolate Grilled cheese and tomato bisque Pretzel bites with beer cheese Three cheese mac and cheese White Pizza with more cheese and Steak Frites with chimichurri and super tender steak
Good tasty food and warm ambiance at Publico. From the staged fires to the inside outside feel and excentric decor to the side but still concise menu, Public will please. The tacos were tasty and had the right level of heat, steak frites was tender and flavorful. Enpenatas were crispy and the yukka fries were awesome
This is a gem in south Boston. We went for an early dinner tonight. Started with the grilled octopus as an appetizer. It was perfectly smoked with very interesting seasoning and cooked to perfection. There was enough for a full meal and ample for the three of us to share. We also ordered a cocktail, the "How are Yuzu", fantastic. Buffalo trace bourbon, yuzu, simple syrup and egg whites. For our entrees we had hot buttered lobster roll. The lobster was cooked perfectly and just amazing. The other two guests had the hot chicken sandwich and the fish tacos. Every bite was better than the first. I had a second cocktail and then we split a dessert. The coffee and donuts. It came out with a bag of at least a dozen hot freshly made square donuts (Beignets) with coffee ice cream and a Nutella chocolate blend. All of this was under $170. With tip an amazing meal for three. HIGHLY recommended!!!
We ate here for a late night dinner. Very nice restaurant with a cool vibe. The serice was good, we enjoyed our food and there were a decent amount of gluten free options.
Enjoyed a great dinner here! The atmosphere was really fun. We had the empanadas and tuna crudo tacos for appetizers and both were great. For my entree, I had the pork loin. The pork had really great flavor. It came with a large portion of sweet potatoes- I wish it had been a more balanced plate (more brussel sprouts as mentioned on the menu), but it was still good.
I hosted my boyfriend's birthday at Publico on a Saturday afternoon, and everything was wonderful! Emma, our server, was very personable, quick to get our drinks, and just so nice. The food was really good as well. Joe, the Manager, was great to work with and was very responsive leading up to the date. I highly recommend Publico for a nice lunch or dinner or to host an event! Great spot.
I just found this place and ordered what I saw on their instagram page. I was impressed with the food. Delicious lunch at an affordable price. I recommend this place to for anyone.
I’ve always loved Publico’s brunch and the vibes in general but I need to say their new lunch deal is a 10/10!! We got the grilled chicken Caesar wraps with a side of fries and they were phenomenal. They grilled the wraps and the french fries were thin and crispy. The cookies that came with the lunch were also incredible. We couldn’t believe it was a sandwich, drink and cookie for 9.99! Deal of the neighborhood! 💜
Food was delicious, no wait time. Definitely a great place for lunch or a dinner date. Staff is pleasant.
We contracted the indoor/outdoor space with the retractable roof for a business event in June. Out of all the events we had over our 4 days in Boston, this is the one everyone absolutely loved. As an event planner, I always arrive at these venues ahead of time to make sure they remember we are coming and make sure everything is set up properly. When I arrived, they were well aware of our party's arrival and were setting up. The staff was phenomenal. They were friendly, attentive, and proactive. I will be honest, my expectations of the food was that it would be average pub fare, but the food was fantastic, and the cocktails were fresh and made just right. The venue itself was perfect, loved the retractable roof and many seating options that were just right for networking and great conversations. Joe was an absolute pleasure to work with and made everything so easy. After these things the only compliments I get are usually, "thanks for a great event", but for this one, I got very specific feedback, "best food of the week", "service was outstanding", "loved it, loved it". This is success in my book. If you are looking for an event space or just looking for a meal, do yourself a favor and pop by Publico.
Very lovely and popular place! Our food was very good and the service was also good. We will be back when we are South Boston!
Publico is one of the top spots in southie for 3 reasons: 1. Always has baddies 2. There’s never a line no matter how packed it is! 3. Solid food and good weekday lunch specials
I value consistency when I find a place I like and you’ll definitely get that here. Are they reinventing food? No. But are they making sure everything on the menu should taste the way it should? Yep. The vibe is cool. The food is always solid. My favs - zucchini chips, Greek salad (like one of the best American versions I’ve had. Probably cause the owner is Greek), chicken piccata. Burger is great. Catch their lunch deal.
I’m a local and come here a lot. Food is solid. And it’s a great place on the weekend to go in Southie if you’re over 26 because it’s fun but not as crazy crowded as a BRG bar. 10 dollar lunch deal is a total winner and I hope it never goes away. So we held our 10 year high school reuinion here. It was perfect from start to finish. And they were so easy to work with and wanted a very reasonable minimum for our number fluctuating group. Pro-Público
Nice setting and overall decent food! Very much like pub food/Yard House vibes. My family and I split a pizza, sliders, a salad, and the bolognese. Food was pretty solid and I wasn’t unhappy with the courses. Bolognese and sliders were probably my favorite. I was pretty happy with the portion sizes. The restaurant is a bit far from me though, so I don’t imagine I’ll make the trip out again soon. Vibes were nice with open windows with the nice weather.
Good brunch option in south boston, kind of an odd location not super close to much. Restaurant is large and would be good for larger parties. Staff sat us quickly with a reservation and our waiter was friendly though clearly busy. Food was nothing crazy but the fried chicken Benedict was bomb!
This place has a distinct Spanish (Spain not Mexico) influence. First picture is of "The board room" appetizer. Prosciutto was excellent and I liked everything except the salami but that might be personal preference. The cod dish was good but lacked the intense flavor of the paella that my son ordered. It was not as good as the paella I had in Barcelona a few weeks ago but is that a fair comparison? I recommend the "coffee (ice cream) and doughnuts even though they only gave us 1/2 scoop of ice cream. Flavor was excellent. Service was attentive and they would get 5 stars if they put parking options on the web site and had a few more craft beer options. Too bad I can not rate Publico at 4.75
We came for brunch + World Cup viewing. The vibe is great and the outdoor seating area is a lot of fun. The drinks were good. The food was alright, it was decent but it probably won't blow you away. Service was a bit slow, but I'm not sure if that was because of the World Cup.
We enjoyed the breakfast pizza and egg sliders at this lively corner spot that had a strong brunch crowd. The outdoor atrium in the middle of the building with two fireplaces is a perfect spot to linger over a beer with some college football on the screens. Its food and vibe aren’t going to change your life, but it is a perfectly delightful spot to grab a meal and some drinks.
Food was great, friendly staff. Not sure what the vibe is here. Came on a Friday night... There are allot of TV's on the walls, playing sports. Then we get a Saturday afternoon coffee house concert at 8pm. Just an odd vibe...o and everyone looks the same.... But I think that is a neighborhood thing. The smash burger was delicious. The cocktails were good as well.
It was a bit past 8.30pm Monday when we sat down for dinner. No one on the diner but the bar area was filled. We got seated in a small table next to the waiter station, ok. There were empty booth tables but ok. The sweet blue oysters were amazingly fresh and simply delicious😊, sweet and salty just gushing from the flesh. The meatball pizza was not bad, thicker crust than I’d like (thin like in Italy) but it was crispy. The San Marzano tomato sauce was what got me to try it. Was good. Asked for spicy olive oil to drip onto the pizza, good quality oil but not spicy enough. Lastly the fried yuccas was generous but batter was a bit heavy. The salsa verde complimented the yucca very. Decor was modern, spacious and hip like a typical hotel bar/restaurant. Staff was friendly but would like to be seated in a better place. Be generous to your patrons, they’ll pay in kind.
Nice setup the inside layout was really nice. The yucca fries were amazing, but wasn't a fan of the arepas the rest of the food was good also. Server was friendly but we were waiting for a while waiting after we finished eating before she came back to check to see if we were done. I loved that this restaurant wasn't ontop of other restaurants. I would recommend to others.
Excellent food, drinks and deserts. Would leave 5 stars but we were there 2.25 hours and only saw our server a few times. Not their fault. We were seated outside and I could see that they were slammed inside. Very popular place. Disappointed that we were reporting as being a no show for our reservation.
The ambiance and location are pretty decent. I ordered the steak tips and Street corn. Street corn was amazing and the tips were quite good. The service needs to be improved as things are rushed and orders are missed. May revisit.
Publico really stood out to me because of the great service. The owner sent us complimentary donuts and recognized us when we came back later in the week. Seems like they care about their customers and that definitely left an impact on me. Their food is also delicious. I was a big fan of the squash pizza and might just ask for extra honey on it next time. The lobster benedict was also delicious and they used good quality lobster on it. The burrata appetizer was also fresh and tasted simple and light (which I appreciated with the benedict) - I just would have added a drizzle of balsamic glaze on top.
Fun place for a night out but also a great spot to have Brunch or Dinner! The food is good and the drinks are delicious! It can get very busy on weekend nights but that makes for a fun atmosphere. The building itself (on the inside) is also unique for the area. Definitely worth a visit!
Our go to spot for great apps and espresso martinis in Southie! Have been for casual drinks and dinner a few times. Their flatbread pizzas are delicious, especially the fig and prosciutto, and it can be a fun place at night to hang out - great drinks and music. The vibe is just above that fresh out of college phase, which is nice in comparison to some other places in South Boston. The events they throw also look beautiful! Definitely recommend trying.
Enjoyable atmosphere, great service and food. Disappointed that they didn't have the Shipyard Pumpkin on draft per the website and menu, but the rest of the dinner was excellent.
Would you like to have breakfast at 2pm? All day breakfast! Foods were good, but not great. Everyone seemed to be drinking, but I just had water. There were two bars. I would sit in the inner bar area on a sofa if I came with a large group or family. The outer bar area was great to look outside and had nice breezes. I found parking on the street but it could be hard for dinner. Residential parking permit only area from 6pm onward on weekdays.
Great ambience. Good food. One of the best street corn. Chicken sandwich and meatball sliders were ok, not great not bad.
This was our first restaurant experience on the East Coast. It was packed and extremely loud. The waiter was very young and didn't seem to know what he was doing. Very slow, spoke very softly (in a loud room), and clearly did not care about providing good customer service, getting our order right or getting a good tip. Food was good, but nothing to make up for the wait service, which was below and behind. The bussers, on the other hand, were totally on it and deserve credit for a job well done.
Ordered the "lunchbox specials" online. Picked up bag from shelf in front. When opened, we found that all soda cans were completely warm. Not slightly warm... Called the restaurant and spoke to the general manager. He apologized, but said there was nothing he could do. They don't have room in the small refrigerator they have to keep soda cold. He felt that we should be OK with what we received, and quipped that "it's a $10 lunch." (as if to say, "what do you expect?) I asked for credit for the soda that we cannot drink. No offer. Not that the soda is worth much, but if they know it's warm, shouldn't they send out cups of ice? Our experience, which could have been great, is now going to prevent future ordering. It's not the food, it the management and the service as referenced in other negative reviews.
The girl bartenders during weekday lunch are SO rude. both times I’ve come in to give another chance both girls acted as if I was bothering them. Then become sweethearts when the bill is given. The Spanish guy is the best, next time I’m walking out if either girls are there for lunch!
