River Cottage Canteen - Bristol

I absolutely love this independent community centre. Really artistic, with loads of activities and events. Also great place for going out for drinks, meeting new people and networking with other artists. I wish that it remains there and keeps on promoting great artistic movements and workshops. You should definitely pass by for a drink or something if you are walking around Stokes Croft. Amazing vibes and lovely people

Good food and friendly staff. Had to order yourself at the cashier, though. Loves the hummus and butter squash salad and the korean BBQ burger; the potatoes were just ok, in my opinion.

Bristol institution in Stokes Croft with excellent veggie/vegan Sunday roasts. Highly recommend the seitan roast as my personal favourite, they have pretty good coffee as well. The ambience is very hipster and cosy, and service is very good. It's about 16£ for a roast which I think is a bit high for a meal, but definitely worth it.

What a great find, goggled roast dinner, and found the canteen. Arrived late on a Sunday and I think had the last 2 meals, so was not as hot as I would like but quality and flavour made up for it! I think this was the best vegetarian roast i have ever had. Will have to visit again to check it out.

Great vegetarian menu, we loved everything we had. Amazing whipped feta and foccachia, and chocolate croquettes!

Really nice place. The mushroom burger was delicious and crispy. Really good veggies options.

Friendly bar with a nice vibe late on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Staff were great, enjoyed the music and (vegetarian) food was terrific as well. Lovely place to hang out for a couple of hours.

Awesome venue, live music every night ❤️ great beer and great staff. I was in Bristol for a week from New Zealand and this place felt like a lil haven I loved it. Will be back

The Canteen in Stokes Croft is one of Bristol’s best spots for live music and a relaxed night out. I love that you can turn up pretty much any day of the week and there’ll be something on — midweek tends to be more chilled bands, and at the weekend it’s often lively with people dancing and a great atmosphere. Drinks are decent and reasonably priced, and it’s the kind of place where you can settle in easily and have a good time. There’s always a mix of people and it feels welcoming and diverse, which adds to the vibe. I’ve been here loads of times and it’s consistently a fun, easy place to enjoy yourself, whether you’re with friends or on a date. One of those venues that just does its thing really well — reliable live music, good crowd, and a proper Bristol feel.

This place was amazing! Just the job when you are hungry. This is a very cool place to hang out but nobody seemed to mind that we were there too (we were the oldest people there). The food was excellent, the service was fast and efficient. I would definitely go here again next time I'm in the area.

Had a great night at the canteen on Cheltenham road. Saw a great band. Keep your eyes open for what's on. The DJ was cracking later on. Free to get in before a certain time. Definitely recommended!

Sooooo delicious! Vegetarian food at it's very best. On par with top restaurants for a fraction of the price. Great atmosphere too (if you like the hippy type vibe). Will bring Mum next time. X

July 24 - why have we left it so long!? Again, super friendly helpful staff. Everything we ordered was delicious. Menu changes regularly, and staff can advise. Our favourite, smashed potatoes were slightly different but loved this variation. Sharing board was great. Heritage tomatoes, great. 2 different burgers, both great. Highly recommend the mushroom one (NOT a portobello mushroom) Everything was great! June 23 - Great attentive staff. Quite busy even at 5pm. But food arrived quickly, and every dish (6) was absolutely delicious. At this point, I would normally tell you about the vegetarian choices, but everything is either vegetarian or vegan. Spoilt for choice. Definitely going back.

OMG … A Definite One 2 Visit We had a wander around town for the afternoon and then headed over to try out our latest Vegan / Plant based restaurant find. The food was absolutely superb - Some of the tastiest food we’ve had in a long time at vegan restaurants. Many are good quality, this was excellent!! 👌 It would be nice to see slightly more attention to detail and also some more vegan options for cakes or desserts but otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Thank you.

Came here for dinner and drinks and it was exceptional. All veggie/vegan but super indulgent and delicious. The BBQ tempeh was a hilight, even if you don’t like tempeh! Staff are lovely, good array of drinks and good value for money too. I love their live bands every night as well!

Amazing vegan Sunday Roast! I'm not a vegan but I thoroughly enjoyed this and would highly recommend. I had the seitan roast dinner and added on the Yorkshire pudding

I've eaten here after work twice in three weeks once with my parents, once with some friends. Really good quality food with so many different flavours going on! Wish I took more photos but usually eat the food before I get the chance to. Very inclusive menu, friendly and fun staff, good drinks, lively atmosphere. Would recommend the tempeh burger, either smashed potato options, the aubergine starter and foccacia. Personally wasn't a fan of the tomato salad starter which was a little light. Will be back！

Delicious food! I had the sticky bang bang tempeh! Yummy! Salad was good too! It was a jam session tonight and sometimes it was the house band jamming and other times others got to be on stage to jam. Good vibe. Good fun!

The Canteen is a gem! Whether you're looking for a great cup of coffee, drinks with friends, or a night out with live music, this place has it all. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the live music is always top-notch. Highly recommend!

Best place in Bristol innit. Went for me birthday n all the staff are so suave, lovely, and accommodating. Music is always swagger jagger, great for a boogie. Vegan drip for days and everyone is bloody lovely. Banksy said it’s better than his school canteen x

'Sunday roast' has a friendly hipster vibe, people of all ages welcome. I advise you to always book a table ahead of time online. The portion size is enough for lunch, but if you are hungry, order a side dish. There is often live music too, worth looking out for.

Amazing and different music. Drinks are pricey ish, beer is 6 quid I think. All staff very friendly and serve quickly. Bouncers on the door were lovely.

We had our Xmas meal here and it was great! Food was so yummy, 10/10 every dish, loads of variety and some more unique options. Never knew sprouts could be so good! The service was stunning, really smiley lovely staff. Thank you for making our evening 💛

Had a lovely time with my friends who I hadn’t seen in ages here. Good drinks, good vibes and amazing staff! Joe was hilarious and very hospitable. Talking to him behind the bar felt like catching up with an old mate.

Liked the place, good atmosphere, cool music , friendly staff ....but the tempeh burger was disappointing...basically a not very big slice of tempeh some sauce, 3 tiny slices of cucumber , a tiny piece of lettuce in a bap for £12

The potatoes were incredible. Not only was the food really good, but the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend giving this place a go. It's a laid-back, relaxed vibe. There's also live music! I had the up most pleasure watching Beat Cleaver make live instrumentals with his equipment. Many artists joined him up on stage including myself!

Nice spot on Stokes Croft, really good selection of local beers and drinks combined with a good selection of food in the kitchen. It appears the menu is Vegan only, so that may sway you one way or another.

Overall good, staff amazing, veggie roast was good albeit a little salty and tatties could be crispier. The Yorkshire was spot on tho

Watched a great band,good service,but people rolling joints grinding there dope and smoking it outside wasn't very nice especially when the sigh in the toilet said anyone caught will be banned and reported to the police.

Awful service with a lack of understanding in how to make a margarita when all the ingredients are behind the bar but the cocktail tap has run dry… got a dark and stormy instead that tasted of fireball whisky and lemonade for £9.50.

They gave us sliced bread instead of focaccia. When we raised it with them they tried to gaslight us into thinking it was actually their version of focaccia (you can clearly see the actual focaccia on the photo):
