Great atmosphere & lovely service. They were absolutely packed with orders as it was Diwali but still managed to make us feel welcomed & taken care of. Nothing was too much, food was delicious. Spice level was great (plenty of Indians at our table so this isn’t just from a white girls perspective 😉)
Dine in and take out experiences have been great– the food is so good. They have special combo prices available if you dine in vs order that really feel like a steal. Plenty of vegetarian options and incredible coconut naan.
Self proclaimed Indian/pakistani food expert here- this is the BEST in the whole of NYC. Yes better than semma etc. Real authentic!!!! And so flavorful! Edit to add: The chicken biriyani is so authentic and delicious - you can tell it’s been cooked with real spices and attention to detail. Musaafer’s biriyani was my #1, now it is my #2, this place is #1! The chicken curry was also amazing and the lentil soup. Coming back soon! If only they delivered to manhattan!
Their food is consistently amazing – but fair warning: as someone who loves spice, I still have to be careful when ordering! 🔥 Portions are massive, flavors are incredible; they do not miss. Have tried prob half of their menu by now! 😍
Look no further. Do not hesitate to eat or order from here. I literally love this place for takeout so much. Flavor is always consistent. And what the best part is the white meat chicken in the varying dishes are big pieces that are juicy and melt in your mouth. Often hard to achieve at Indian restaurants. If I could give more stars I could. I can’t wait to dine in here one day.
Great food, lots of veggie options. Family style portions for sure. Lots of rice, but also a good amount of mains. The special platter appetizer is great to share. For two I'd recommend maybe just that and one entree or two entrees and that if you're really hungry, but can be a lot of rice/carbs.
Nearing closing, we were wandering around Billysburg, when Athithi’s radiant perfection called out, “eat here!” Not knowing what quality experience we were in for, we ordered some naan and malai kofta (spicy), commencing one of a most memorable flavor experience—one “for the books.” There was ice cold water, refilled instantaneously, along with gracious, loving waiters. We cherished this dining experience, leaving a $20 on a $30 bill. Come here. Support this business. Huge Athithis fan!
To me, this is the best Indian place in Williamsburg bar-none. Their food is consistently excellent, with great portions. Their service is also great, with staff that truly cares about the experience you’ll have. This applies for both in restaurant and to-go orders. My girlfriend and I eat here every week, and we love it every time. Thank you for the amazing food!
Fantastic dinner! Some of the best lamb korma I've ever had. And, they don't short you on the lamb like other places. My only regret is getting take out rather than dining in... the folks working there were friendly, and the vibe of the place was chill. I plan to go again while I'm in town.
In the mood for vegetarian?? Then Atithi is a must-visit! Have been meaning to come here since last year & finally made the trip! The chaats were blasts of flavour activating all 5 senses! The warm onion kulcha with the Paneer Bhatti masala was a dhaba like experience. The Bhature we ate as an accompaniment as my Mom couldn't eat Choley! The pillowy bread didn't disappoint! Finished the meal with halwa and Kulfi Falooda! For drinks we chose the masala sodas, which was refreshing and detoxifying thru the rich meal! The service was friendly & warm! Kudos to Deepak who makes the time to visit every table suggesting meals & specialties!
A hidden gem with bold flavors and warm hospitality. This small, cozy restaurant has a relaxed vibe, made vibrant by traditional Indian décor that adds colorful touches throughout the space. The service was excellent—friendly and incredibly fast. We were welcomed with refreshments the moment we sat down and treated to complimentary poppers served with two flavorful chutneys: mint and tamarind. To start, we had the veggie-stuffed samosas. The portion includes two generously sized samosas, crispy on the outside and packed with seasoned vegetables on the inside, paired with green and tamarind chutney. For our mains, we ordered the chicken tikka masala and a hearty paneer dish mixed with chickpeas and potatoes in a rich masala gravy. Each came with a side of fragrant basmati rice. We also added roti and garlic naan. Overall, we really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. A great spot if you’re craving flavorful Indian cuisine in a welcoming setting.
All I can say is wow! I used to live in the neighborhood and now when I go back I always have to stop in and order some food to take home. This time I got the garlic naan, lamb saag, lamb korma, mango lassi and wish I ordered more because it’s so good! Everyone is so kind in there too!
I’m not from New York and this was my first time coming here, I was feeling something spicy and just walked in. From the calm demeanor to the helpfulness and caring and chill vibe created only by the only two people in sight, Pema & sarita. Everything I needed I didn’t even have to ask they just kind of knew, it was very nice to experience not having to call a waiter for water or more food, pema recommended the best food I ever had in my life. I’m telling my friends about this place in Texas, California, all over. Every time I come to nyc I have to come here. Plus it’s inexpensive as well! A lot of these other places nearby like to charge so much money for low quality food. This food was absolutely the best I’ve had in a while and didn’t break my pocket. Came here alone !
The waiters were on point every time they saw our water low. They came to promptly refill it. The food was very flavorful and delicious. However, my vegetable vindaloo was extremely spicy and they had warned me beforehand, but I thought I would be able to handle it. Well I couldn’t. They kept asking me is everything OK when they saw me struggling to eat it. They were nice enough to offer me a different dish free of charge. They also have a lunch special menu that comes with a dish, a side of rice and soup. I would definitely recommend coming to this place.
This place was really good the food I would highly recommend. The service was prompt and they were quick to refill drinks. We got the medium heat which definitely grew on us. The only reason it was not 5 is my friends stomach turned on her- mine was perfectly fine so could just be a difference in humans that would have a tough time.
I enjoyed the food here, but the wait staff made the experience uncomfortable. Our waiter was surprisingly rude and standoffish whenever we made simple requests for things like spoons, napkins, or a to-go container. The most frustrating part was the staff cleaning the table while we were still actively packing our leftovers. It felt like we were being pushed out, and given the cramped seating, it was very awkward. We would have appreciated if they just waited 2 minutes for us to pack our food before they started clearing the table as it was cramped.
Maybe I just didn’t order the right dishes, or maybe it’s because I spent years in India and I’m spoiled, but… The chicken samosa was WAY too spicy. I mean: burn your mouth so that you can’t taste anything else you ordered, and wonder momentarily if you might need to visit an Emergency room. Look, I like a little spice, but that was plain wrong. Speaking of spice level, when ordering I asked the server to explain the system, asking, “Is it American spice level or India spice level?” She said, “Indian spice level,” which is why I ordered the entree at the low end of the rating, adding, “I do like a little spice, so maybe #2 on the spice scale.” That was the opportunity for her to say, “Then you might not like the chicken samosa, because it will cause your lips to feel like you put a hot caste-iron pot to them.” When the entree arrived, I didn’t taste ANY spice at all. It was bland (Veg Korma on the lunch special). Okay, maybe I couldn’t taste the entree because my taste buds had been temporarily damaged by the samosa. Actually, I liked the casing on the samosa. It was nicely fried and tasty. Which I appreciated fully because I ate the casing but skipped the filling, thinking that’s where all that fire was coming from. My niece thought that maybe the spice was in the mint chutney (she had the veg samosa and said it wasn’t too hot, but that the chutney was—which is weird because mint chutney normally isn’t as hot as, let’s say, Mother’s hot mango pickle). Otherwise, the veg korma was mediocre, not creamy like a cashew based sauce should be. (Try the Navtara Korma at Delhi Darbar in Mumbai!) The best part of the lunch was the garlic butter naan. 5-stars for that. Thin and crispy and charred like it should be. I’d think twice before returning, but it’s not off the table. The lunch special is a very good deal, and maybe other dishes are better than the ones I ordered. My niece liked the Sag Paneer, but what does she know? She’s young, has never been to India, and grew up in the Florida panhandle. I wish her lots of good Indian food in her life.
