Opinions de Lucky Vegetarian Brooklyn
Come to eat here maybe twice, but get take out a few times a month! The Place: Dark, but nice and relaxing. Can smell the incense as its a buddhist place, and the workers are all very nice. There is also free wifi and a clean bathroom. The Food: amazing!!!! So many vegetarian teists on classic chinese dishes! I have tried almost everything on the lunch menu and a few things from the non lunch special. Everything is so so so good!! My mission now that I live nearby is to try everything on the menu. This is a staple in my life.
Have been eating here for 4 years now since our co-workers found it. Has become our go-to for lunch. Not only is this a really good vegetarian place it just tastes better than most of the restaraunts in this area. Twice cooked pork and General Tso's beef are the ones most ordered around our office but the other dishes are really good too.
As a vegetarian, i loved this place! Enjoyed the hot and sour soup, looked very clean and tasted good. I also enjoyed the triple mushrooms dish and the mapo tofu. The mapo tofu wasn't as spicy as I expected it but I didn't mind that. I could always ask for a spicier version next time. Quick service and a zen like ambience. Definitely coming back 👍
Only some of their fried rice noodle can choose with or without eggs(vegetarian) , the rest of dishes are all vegans . They have lovely Buddhism music, decoration, and atmosphere in the restaurant. Thank you The shifu clock out and left with his electronic bike on time 8:30 pm, so don’t try to place the order after that. This is my first time here :) because everytime when I’m around they close already, they close rarely early comparing with other stores. love their vegan options. Many thanks :) Their vegan roasted pork totally reminds me of the hk vegan restaurant in Astoria name “jujube “ , ever since they closed I can’t find any other places has that taste anymore. I will totally come back for the “1. Roast pork “ and “2. Stir fried hofun” again :) their hofun has the Chinese herbal medicine taste that I familiar with :) totally love it :) many thanks And I was very surprised that their “34 sautéed string bean” is sautéed with #豆 豉 ( ㄔˇ ) (fermented beans) this is a very hunan style of sautéed style totally reminds me of my grandma, thank you And the most amazing things about this restaurant is that your phone has no signal when you are here underground, wow I truly enjoy the quiet moment that no disturb from the phone
Great service and non-oily, flavorful food! They gave us free peanuts and green tea too. Highly recommend the vegetable fried rice and the dumplings. Would come back just for the quick service!
Cozy spot with great service and the menu’s all vegetarian. Plus the prices are cheap.
You want to eat here. The food is delicious, the service is great and the space is comfortable for groups. We had the sesame chicken, sizzling lamb platter (amazing), duck appetizer, dumplings, string beans and pork fried rice. Everything was tasty and there were tons of other dishes coming out of the kitchen that looked delicious and called for a return trip. There may or may not be an all you can eat buffet one day a week. Bring your friends, come hungry.
What’s a stop at Chinatown without Chinese food? And what’s Chinese food without Lucky Vegetarian? And if you come here between 11 am and 3:30 pm, you can get the special lunch combo with rice, soup, salted peanuts, and tea. I got the hot and spicy fish whose fragrant flavors paired so well with the bed of steamed broccoli it was served on. There are so many great options (braised dried bean curd, seafood pan fried noodle) so bring a friend to share. Lucky is just off the 8th Ave drag. and if you’re directionally challenged like me, you can miss it. To help, I took a pic of the entrance so you don’t have to walk around like I did and get to all the yumminess much faster.
Delicious food and great space. Perfectly seasoned.
Great food and very kind staff!
The food is great. I had the "chicken" corn soup and they even asked if I wanted egg in it which I didn't. True respect to dietary needs of being a vegan. The Buddha's delight was great too, has a slight curry flavor to it.
“How is this not fish” same reaction every time. The size of the menu is a bit overwhelming, but that just makes me want to keep coming back. Great vegetarian Chinese cuisine in a very friendly and calm environment. All wood, clean, well lit, a nice reprieve from the busy street you descend from.
Brooklyn Chinatown's best vegetarian secret! The restaurant is in the basement of a Buddhist temple, the staff is very friendly and the food is very very tasty. It's not the healthiest vegetarian/vegan food, so don't expect to get a kale bowl here. But what you can expect are vegan and vegetarian versions authentic Chinese dishes. Some are like no other you'll find anywhere else!
Excellent Vegan and Vegetarian food. The best in New York! The master chef makes the best mahogany fried rice, lettuce wrap, salt and pepper fish (vegan), 3 cups chicken. All items on the menu are completely vegetarian and most are vegan. Located on 8th Avenue and 51st Street in Brooklyn, this is by far the finest!
Absolutely delicious meal, would completely recommend anyone coming here who prefers vegetarian alternative to meat based Chinese food dishes. The only thing that can be approved upon is if they added pictures and full descriptions (in English) of the dishes. There is not much decor and the restaurant is literally located in the basement level, but I was only there for the food and don't really care about these other things so much anyway. It was clean and comfortable regardless. Also they should notate which dishes come with seeds or nuts as those are very common allergens, we received a dish that was covered in cashews, and I have a nut allergy,, I was not expecting there to be nuts on this dish. It was no such a big deal as I just removed them and kept eating without any problem. But others with a more sensitive reaction might have had a concern in that regard. This also could be completely prevented by providing me descriptions that I mentioned earlier.
Lucky Vegetarian is an amazing place for vegetarian Chinese fare. It makes vegan takes on everyone’s favourite Chinese dishes, and creatively uses many ingredients to replicate the textures and taste of meat. Service is quick and food is cheap. I recommend the General Tso’s chicken, crispy duck, and hot and spicy pot. Braised beef sirloin is great too.
If you are looking for some different dishes to the ones you can get at typical Chinese restaurants, you should try this place. Although they do have some typical dishes, they also have dishes that are not found in other Chinese vegetarian restaurants. The portions and prices are better compared to Bodhi Village in Flushing. Be aware that they close earlier than most places at 8pm, and may close even earlier if there are no customers. We got there about 15 minutes before closing with only one customer still there, and they were happy to serve us. Definitely want to go back, but it is near the southwest corner of Brooklyn and takes close to an hour to get there from Flushing Queens.
Love this lower level vegetarian restaurant. Lots of seating and space for large groups!! Went here once for take out and since been back 2x times.. bringing several groups of friends to dine. There are many vegetarian options and interesting new dishes to try. Looking forward to trying new things on my next visit 🙂
This is my favorite new restaurant. It's 100% vegetarian but everything you order tastes and looks like the meat it is meant to duplicate. Everything is delicious! I recommend the roast duck and roast pork, which is actually seitan!
Holy smokes call me the indulging vegan cuz wow. Was googling for something vegan real quick before catching a sunset with my girlfriend. Got the curry "chicken" and one bite blew my mind 🤯 This place is vegetarian but vegan if you skip out on a few options just talk to the very helpful hostess. Highly recommend for anyone regardless of your diet.
They have amazing service. Fluent in English and Chinese. Food was stellar, portions are huge for price. And fully vegetarian places are usually super expensive or the food doesn’t hit. I highly highly recommend this place. I KNOW what ur thinking. It looks weird, it’s in a basement. It’s SO CLEAN and set up so nice inside. Please give it a try!! I literally didn’t go in because i judged it by the door and the basement thing as well but 10/10 food 10/10 cleanliness. Try it you will not regret it.
Delicious vegetarian food! The fried rice noodles are full of layers of flavor, and the tofu hot pot is perfect for cold weather. Best of all, it’s quite affordable. Highly recommended!
Hidden gem! Literally hidden, from outside looks like a old phone booth, but once you get downstairs it’s very nice and clean! The food was absolutely amazing, plenty of seating and menu options for vegetarians!! The service was absolutely great, the food came out quickly and we all enjoyed it! I highly recommend this place!
This is a 5 star vegetarian find. The restaurant is entered through an enclosure that looks like a big phone booth. To access it, you go into the enclosure & down a steep flight of stairs. Hold onto the handrail. It was about 7pm & smelled of incense when we entered. We were quickly greeted with menus, then a pot of hot tea, chopsticks & and small bowl of roasted peanuts were brought to the table. The hostess answered any questions we had. We decided on stewed eggplant clay pot and Korean Veg sliced fish with bean curd clay pot. It was not clay pot like I enjoyed in Hunan with rice in bottom of pot. We had to ask for white rice. We had to ask if entire menu was vegetarian because it referred to meat dishes but we were assured that it was 100% vegetables. $30.50 total for our 2 dinner meals, plus tip. The only other table was done shortly after we arrived but a table of 8 came in before we left & we could see an amazing multi course meal being served. The following day, I walked past it again & realized it was in basement of Buddhist Temple! No wonder we saw Buddhist Nun coming in & out of restaurant. If you are looking for 100% vegetarian meal, try it. It was clean with a simple decor. They have a nice deal for lunch with entree, soup, rice for $8.50 from 11am-3:30pm.
One of the best Chinese Vegetarian restaurants. We ordered 5 dishes everything made with fresh vegetables and Tofu. Excellent customer service, Only thing I did not like they don't serve Coke or Pepsi any kind of soda beverages, only water here. Everything was reasonable priced.
omg!!! what an absolute gem! one of the best chinese food i've ever had and it's all vegan and vegeterian!! if this doesn't convince people to become plant based or vegan, i'm certain nothing will. my non vegan friends and I were blown away with their vegan sesame chicken, vegan general tso's beef, vegan kung pao, vegan pork fried rice and vegan fried rice noodles. quite large portions we split 3 ways so got to try a lot bit of everything and were too full and satisfied to move afterwards. so many options, so affordable, and absolutely filling. would come here again and again and again and again. it's a cash only business so make sure you bring those greenbacks! if you forget there are plenty of atms nearby especially a chase bank couple blocks away! great service, immediately served us free hot tea unlimited refills it seemed like which was immensely appreciated given the recent colder than usual winter and lovely no pressure take your time service! thank me later 🤣🤝🏽
It's downstairs so be careful walking down the steps. Overall, service was nice and clean, food was delicious! Though I'm not a vegetarian, I like good foods. Highly recommended, will definitely come back.
Sometimes in Brooklyn Chinatown, you don’t wanna eat too much meat so stop by here for some vegetarian food. They make it very good. The ambience is great and very clean. I can enjoy peace while eating in here!
Delicious food, generous portions, friendly service. We'll be back for the Sesame Beanbags!
I really recommend Hot & Spicy Pot. It came with a medley of fresh and delicious veggies and tofu. Also got the sizzling beef steak which is a little like fried crumbly tofu. Loved this place.
Vegan and vegetarian, the food is delicious. The entrance is on the street side and you have to walk down the stairs to the basement. We ordered the double sauteed "pork" (mushrooms) and roasted "pork"(tofu ??). They both are delicious. Our server is very nice. The restaurant is very clean.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 5 Star Vegetarian restaurant. Everything on the menu is great. Wonderful calming vibe. Restaurant is downstairs part of a Buddhist Monastery. Great food. Great atmosphere. Try the pork. Try the vegetables. 💵💬Cash Only Lunch Specials End at 3:30pm sharp.
Delicious coming from a non vegetarian! I came in with my vegetarian mother for lunch one day, and the fried mushroom sticks and hot and sour udon noodles were delicious! (They might’ve been called something else, she ordered for us) A relaxing ambience with affordable prices! :) We enjoyed it so much we came back a second time!
Delicious vegetarian food! Big portions, affordable prices. Fresh and tasty 🍃🤍
Hugggge new fan of this place the food was excellent even my non vegan/vegetarian fiancée said it was delicious! His favorite was the sesame chicken, so crispy! Everything was perfect! Now I don't always have to go Manhattan CT for quality vegetarian Chinese food! So happy!

Great vegetarian menu. Mapo tofu was fantastic, very saucy and bursting with flavor. Cash only.
Recent convert to being a vegetarian(and Buddhist) mostly home cooked food, first restaurant, the food was amazing, I got the gen tso beef(veg) lamb on stick and spring rolls. Wow. I wish I lived or worked closer, portion was huge, im 6 foot 7 in stuffed myself, but as I have found on my vegetarian journey, even if u stuff urself u still feel amazing and not bloated.(did u hear the good news😉) food was amazing and delicious. Honestly better than non vegetarian.

Great place for Chinese vegetarian food. The entrance is downstairs. Hold on to the handrail while descending. Friendly staff. Went as a group to try & share different dishes. Favorite were the sweet & sour whole fish, stewed veg chicken with three cups sauce & the potato with lamb. The lunch special was a great value. Street parking. Cash only.
I've recently gone vegetarian and many of the full veg places, especially the pan Asian ones, have been disappointing. Lucky Vegetarian was not, however. The food was very flavorful, and I was especially surprised by the Korean clay pot fish with tofu, which tasted and looked like fish. The menu is huge and I look forward to going back and trying everything on it. It was pretty empty on a Saturday at 6:30pm, so I hope they are in good shape. Eat there. You won't be disappointed, even if you are a carnivore.
This place is located in the basement with a side seperate entrance with nice decor inside. The service was good and the food was yummy. The chicken corn soup had too much pepper though. The sizes of the dishes are generous and the ribs are very good some of the best I've had.
A no frills Brooklyn Chinatown vegetarian spot. Great value to lunch specials - lots of choices and only $8.50. The food was good quality. I would come again.
Their dumplings are quite the delight. I come here to take a break from the multitude of meat based dumplings. While there are many variants for tofu and the first few bits are good, there isn't sufficient variety in a dish to want to clean the plate.
Great vegetarian food choices. We ordered many dishes to try and most are great and can’t tell that it does not have meat at all!

First time trying this spot out and wasn't sure what to get so we got a few dishes to try. Overall all of the dishes were either super salty and/or greasy. Positives: Lamb stick was a cool little appetizer. Mahogany Rice was also a nice dish, but still salty. Only dish we almost finished. Negatives: If you're looking for decent faux meat/fish then this is not the ideal spot to go in our opinion. The Spring Rolls, Salted Fish Eggplant Clay Pot & the Vegetable Double Cooked Pork were so greasy we had to drain out and dab out all the oil. We could barely have more than one serving. We both felt nauseous after eating it. And for all vegetarian dishes and dishes in general, it should not have cost over $50 for 3 main dishes & 2 small sides/apps. Don't like leaving negative reviews, but had to on this one. No reason dishes need to be that salty and greasy. Yes a lot.of American Chinese food is greasy, but this was overkill.

The food was just ok, I've had better veggie food. I was disappointed with the service; I noticed that other patrons were treated much nicer than I was, including the use of utensils and dinnerware. For example; I was served hot tea in a plastic cup while the customers who were seated across from me were served small teacups with the tea pot, my chopsticks were disposable wooden ones and theirs were some nice black plastic or metal ones. Can't help but wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I was the only brown person there 🤔
We wanted to love this restaurant but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. It’s possible that we came at the wrong time (2pm on a Sunday), or ordered the wrong items, or upon seeing that we aren’t Chinese food was prepared differently. It’s also located in a very dimly lit/dark basement. The spring roll was burned outside but still cold & frozen inside. The steamed dumplings had very hard skin outside. We ordered three bean curd dishes, all of them were deep fried and oily, with no vegetables, and not one of them was tasty. The oil was rancid, clearly reused over and over again. The broccoli fried rice was recommended to us, but tasted very weird. The mushrooms on the sizzling mushroom platter were also battered and deep fried with the rancid oil. Perhaps if we had ordered items that were not fried, we would have enjoyed them. It did not state on the menu which items were deep fried, we did not expect everything to be. Cost was $85 for 3 adults and 2 toddlers. We ordered two appetizers and four main courses.
