This place is awesome!!! We went today and the staff are so nice and welcoming. If it’s your first time, they give you a sample of their bread (made at a nearby bakery just for them) and sauce (which is so freaking good). My husband and I split one of the lonches bañados as per the staff’s suggestion, and thank goodness we did because it’s enormous (the pic shows 1/2 of the sandwich). It’s kind of like an enchilada but with delicious sourdough-like bread instead of tortillas. It was so delicious. Chips and guac were also great. Huge portions at very affordable prices, and such a unique meal that you can’t get at other Mexican restaurants. I highly recommend.
This is a new casual spot that’s worth a try! Basically, it’s a sandwich so saucy you need to eat with a spoon! Only 3 sandwiches on the menu but it’s quality over quantity here and they’re all incredible and the portions are humongous. The sauce - a family recipe from Guadalajara - is so flavorful, with just a touch of spice. Somehow it was perfect for both my husband who loves spice, and me who’s terrified of it. It was delicious. They also have quesadillas and the best guac in town. The owner and staff are all incredibly helpful and friendly (shout out to Paola and Diana!). The owner mentioned they’ve been open just under a month and have more plans for hosting the works of local artists on their walls. This place has the makings of becoming a neighborhood gem.
Macario serves an authentic style lonche (sandwich) specifically from Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX. The bread is delicious and crunchy, the shredded pork is juicy, but the smokey tomato sauce is key! Bañado means “bathed” so be prepared to drench your lonche into some delicious sauce. If it gets a little soggy just know that’s a feature of the signature style, not a bug. If you like cheese, make sure to try a lonche prensado or ask them to add Panela to your lonche! It’s one of México’s most popular cheeses. And as you enjoy your food make sure to enjoy the posters and decor hanging up calling back to Mexico’s golden age of cinema. Some posters are of the titular masterpiece Macario from 1960! Saludos de parte de un tapatío en Brooklyn!
We got the el macario with pulled pork and guacamole - both were delicious!! We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend. The staff here are so friendly, just overall a wonderful vibe and dining experience.
Some of the best lonches I’ve ever had!! The sauce, the flavor, the portions. To top it all off, the staff are super nice and gave us free samples to try since it was our first time! Amazing spot that I’ll be recommending to everyone.
My girlfriend and I first stopped by Macario on a whim and we’ve already been back since. Their signature Macario sandwich is truly one of a kind: warm, soaked in a rich, flavorful sauce and served in a tin, where you eat it with a spoon. The pork is my favorite but the chicken is also fantastic. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly and the whole place runs smoothly. The vibe is lively without being hectic - perfect for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or whenever you’re craving something comforting and unique. Macario is easily one of the most distinctive spots in Park Slope and we’ll definitely keep coming back. Could not recommend it enough!
Authentican jalisco lonches!! You have to come and try these! We got the “el macario” and the pork quesadilla, the guacamole with chicharron everything was Spectacular! We were greeted by the owners and everyone is so friendly and welcoming we are definitely coming back
5 stars all around. Super cute restaurant on a super cute block. Bright, warm and modern. Service was so inviting, and the food was awesome. The sandwiches are a staple of Guadalajara and unlike anything else in Brooklyn right now. Flavorful and delicious! Huge portions!
Macario is hands down the best lonches bañados in NY! Marshal and Vanesa go above and beyond with their delicious food and great service. As a guy from Guadalajara, I vouch and highly recommend this amazing spot. Truly a rising hidden gem!

The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming when you come in. They go into great detail about how they prepare the food as well as how to enjoy the sandwich in the traditional Mexican way. The sauce is phenomenal but for those who don’t want the sandwich smothered I would recommend getting it in the side to dip.
Macario is awesome! I love how simple the menu is and the idea of doing a few things really well! I’ve never had lonches before they opened and they taste amazing. The sauce is especially good, tons of flavor with just enough spice. The owner and team are super hospitable too! Everyone we come in we get sample of their bread, sauce, and guac. For sure stop by if you want a quick lunch or don’t feel like cooking dinner. Definitely a go to of mine in the area now.
Amazing sandwiches. Unlike anything I’ve ever had before. The service was extremely kind and helpful. Would highly recommend!
I wish I had taken a picture of my food, but I can confirm that what I had was incredible. I got the classic sandwich that is smothered in their rich tomato sauce. The bread was crusty and pillowy and the meat was perfectly tender. I met the owner Marshall and he was as passionate as he was knowledgeable about the cuisine. I've never had Mexican food like this but learning more about what made this food distinct from other Mexican food made the experience all the more special. If you're in the neighborhood or visiting Park Slope, please try Macario. It's new and it needs to last long in the neighborhood to become an icon.
I found out about this place in an article a while back. A friend and I went a week ago and I literally couldn't stop thinking about this sandwich. The bread and the sauce could literally be sold by themselves it's SO good. Since I couldn't stop thinking about this I came all the way back over here to eat it again and it was just as good the second time... maybe EVEN BETTER. The service exceptional. I love when a store is passionate about what they are serving and explain how to enjoy the food the best way. AND explain how to reheat it. Anyways, not only does this sandwich make me happy but people brighten your day. If you're still reading this review here's the address just click on it and head Macario's way! Holy moly! So GOOD! I grabbed sandwiches to-go, ate them at my friends’ house around the corner. Pretty sure I was speaking with the owners, they gave specific instructions on how to properly enjoy the food since I wasnt dining in, and oh boy Im glad i followed instruction! The pulled pork and pulled chicken are perfectly cooked, the bread is exquisite, crunchy crust and fluffy interior, but these sandwiches are about the sauce. The macario sauce is complex and bright. It is not heavy at all so isnt a belly bomb, and absolutely could go on so many different food items. Only reason for not giving five stars for atmosphere is that the vibe is ya sit ya eat ya go. But the place is clean, right off the G/F 4th av 9th st stop, and the warmth from the owner/operators was palpable and genuine.
Stopped by here yesterday after walking past a few times and decided to check it out—so glad we did. This place is an instant gem. The food is absolutely delicious, and they’re doing a really authentic, unique Mexican specialty sandwich that I’d never seen before. I had the chicken lonche, which was incredibly flavorful and very filling. The sauce was outstanding, and the bread was super fresh. We also met the owner, Marshal, who was very welcoming and great to chat with. Highly recommend Macario, and I’m already looking forward to going back to try the pork lonche next time.
Everything in nyc is old news, except for Mecario. I can’t name one person who wouldn’t love a saucy sandwich with tender pulled meat on a warm baguette, but when it comes with an authentic family sauce recipe from Guadalajara, Mexico you know you’re in for a treat. Even you vegetarians can get a quesadilla here, or the yummiest guacamole. Try their lime cake or the popsicles (possibly a secret menu item) and you will never be disappointed. The staff are the best and we’re so lucky to have this neighborhood gem!
I got the pork prensado and it was great. I hadn't had a sandwich like that before- closest comparison is a high quality meatball sub. the bread is excellent, crusty but soft and good sourdough flavor. Prensado could have been saucier tbh- I was hesitant about the messiness of the bañado, but maybe I'll try it next time because the sauce really makes the sandwich imo!
A true neighborhood gem that also qualifies as a destination spot. Take one step into Macario and be prepared to feel welcomed and at home; the staff is truly so warm and kind and eager to share their food. And that food! The signature sandwich — the only sandwich I've ever had that's best eaten with a spoon — is incredibly delicious. I feel like I could drink that signature sauce! And the bread is robust enough to absorb all that sauce and still maintain its integrity and flavor. I can't wait to try everything on the menu! I definitely recommend eating in the restaurant if you can, because then you might get treated as I did to a tasty new menu addition, like their homemade frozen lime pie. Yum!
I have been to Macario more times than any other establishment in NYC, and I just found out it has only been open for 6 months! It was on my radar ever since someone ate one of their sandwiches next to me in a coffee shop and the smell just could not be ignored. I would recommend anyone to stop by and dine in the next time they are in the vicinity of 4av/9th street, because the staff are so welcoming and it is the most exciting experience around for lunch or a casual evening meal!
Great new spot in the area for unique Mexican sandwiches from Guadalajara, haven't found these at any other spots in NYC. Bañado pulled pork sandwich covered in the sauce was the clear star, but the frozen lime dessert was great too. Marshall and the team have a fun chill atmosphere, will definitely be back
The food was excellent! I really enjoyed El Macario. The birote bread is fresh and the pork with the Macario sauce was so flavorful. It’s a little hot for people that don’t like any spice. The staff was amazing and very welcoming. They clearly care about the customers and want to make sure people enjoy the experience. It was also really nice to talk about Real Madrid and Arsenal Thank you for the food and I hope to be back soon
Stopped in here for lunch today and it was wonderful! We got two different kinds of sandwiches and they were both outstanding. The sauce on the bañado was killer, you’ll want to put it on everything. The staff was so welcoming and appreciative that we stopped in. Service was top notch. We will be back!

The pork bañado is a revelation, I couldn’t eat it fast enough. Loved the guac with chicharron too. I believe I had the pleasure of being served by the owners, whose passion was infectious and hospitality was matchless. Try everything on the menu, this place is the bomb. Thanks Macario, keep it up!

So glad we stopped here for lunch! Wonderful sandwiches with a family recipe that’s 60+ years old from Guadalajara. We got the El Macario (pork sandwich with covered with yummy sauce), and it was the best decision we made all week. The guacamole and chicharrones were also excellent. The staff’s so kind and welcoming, great addition to the neighborhood!!! Will be returning!
The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and the staff was very warm, inviting and helpful. We came in with our fussy toddler and even he enjoyed their yummy offerings. Nice big booth seats takes you back to an older time when restaurants were comfy and made for families and couples looking to relax with good food.
