Great authentic Bengali food. The flavors were excellent. Unfortunately, the Sunday brunch or lunch menu only offers a thali, which I wish I had known beforehand. Aside from that, the food was outstanding. Masalawala & Sons truly delivers on authentic Bengali flavors.

Amazing food! The kosha mangsho, biriyani, and luchi are as authentic as it gets. Also shoutout to the basmati rice beer, which was so smooth! We had a lovely Friday night dinner here and hope to be back soon!

We had a great experience at Masalawala & Sons. The food was rich, flavorful, and very true to Bengali cuisine. Kosha Mangsho — tender, well-spiced, and deeply savory. This was a standout dish for us. Daabh Chingri — delicious and beautifully balanced. The coconut and prawn flavors worked perfectly together. Veg Cutlet — crispy on the outside, satisfying and well-seasoned on the inside. A great starter. We also enjoyed the drinks — refreshing and a good complement to the bold food. What stood out most was how the team made us feel welcome. The service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. This place is a solid pick if you’re craving authentic Bengali flavors.

The food at Masalawala is absolutely delicious. The flavors and the balance was very impressive, and the dishes were unexpected in the best way. Hands down the best butter chicken I’ve ever had. And our server, Zaraith, was so personable and fun and made sure we ordered the best. Request her!

Masalawala and sons is da best and Zach is da best bartender :^) When I walked into Masalawala I didn't know what to expect- strolling in, we were immediately greeted with the most sincere and warmest welcome! There were two of us, so they sat us at the bar and we got to meet Zach! An absolutely amazing bartender, we were recommended several options and ultimately went with the spicy chicken and chaat along with a couple cocktails. Stellar service! I can't wait to come back!!

Deliciously legit and packed with flavor, this is now one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Brooklyn. Everything ordered was excellent (highly recommend the Curry Goat) and the spice level was perfect (if you like it spicy)

Amazing food, always! The entire team is so attentive, work in unison. The food dances as a medley, perfectly blended flavor and culture. The cocktails are absolutely delightful. Joy is an expert server, absolutely kind with thoughtful dish recommendations. Stephen personally came by our table multiple times, ensuring that our (already optimal experience) was maintained. Always love dining here and love to recommend to my friends and family. It’s a must experience!

This place was amazing, from service to the food. Our server Wilmer provided us with great service and was very attentive, if he got busy with another customer Stephan came over to assist us and make sure we were good. We got the puchka and oh man this was prob the best I’ve had in the city, the potato was buttery and perfectly spiced and the pani is usually sweet everywhere you go but this had a nice spice to it which made it perfect. The biryani was so good, chicken was tender and juicy, egg wasn’t overcooked, it was so flavorful with a light spice. I will definitely be back!

For sumptuous Bengali food, this is the place to be. The food is authentic. Rightly spiced and a good variety of foods you get in Kolkata. The best dish was the fish fry. If you're there please order it first. Loved their luchi and kosha mangsho. The ripon street lamb chop was a surprise entry but was perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. The paratha was a little disappointing but everything else was perfect. So a definite 5/5. The mishri doi as dessert was also very good. The cocktails has intersting names and were good as well. I would definitely recommend this place.

I love masalawala & sons. Their brunch thali (I’m not sure what’s it is actually called) is legit — one of the best Indian Thalis I’ve had in the US. Everything was delicious and fresh. On another occasion, I went there and ate à la carte. Still very good — loved their banana fish, puchka, and chilli cauliflower — but their Thali is better and would want to go back for it.

Outstanding experience. Our waitress, Sara, was extremely helpful, telling us spice levels, what went well with certain dishes, and just extremely kind and pleasant. We ordered phuchka, cauliflower fritters, and the fish fry for appetizer. The fish was so good, not your average fried piece of fish, served with a house made mustard. Braised goat for entree with delicious and perfect amount of heat, we ordered fried bread with it. Dessert we had a cottage cheese/cheesecake that was super freaking after our meal. Also we each had a cocktail that were both tasty and absolutely unique. If you ever wanted to impress someone with Indian food, you’d take them here. Interior…cozy, fun and beautifully decorated.

Everything at this place tasted fantastic and elevated quality. We had the vegetable biryani and both the paneer and vegetables in the biryani tasted so tender! Likewise for the paneer in the saag paneer!

Kosha mangsho was very soft! Chennar dalna and bhappa maach were really good too. Will come back again!

Food was amazing! Staff was also lovely. The pani puri was my favorite. I got the daab chingri which was tiger prawns in a young coconut shell and the server scooped out the coconut meat at the table, it was very cool and enjoyable. The atmosphere is also super fun and beautiful, definitely try to stop in!

A regional restaurant offering many unique dishes that will not be found in your typical Indian restaurant in New York. Some of then are limited per day and run out fast. The space is festively decorated with a covere backyard. The size of dishes are best suited for sharing at a 4 top. Good service from wait staff.

I ordered the Butter Chicken curry and it was absolutely delicious! I had never tried Indian food before, but this restaurant made me fall in love with it. The staff were amazing — especially Zara and Wilmar. They were so kind and friendly, and made the experience even better. I’ll definitely come back if I get the chance

The restaurant offers authentic Bengali cuisine with a distinct sweet undertone in most dishes. The flavors are well-balanced and tasty, truly capturing the essence of traditional Bengali food. However, the pricing is quite steep—for instance, the vegetarian thali we had was $38. While expensive, the quality of food was good. A reservation is required if you’re visiting for dinner, but since we went for brunch, we managed to get seats, though we had already made a reservation. A pleasant surprise was the complimentary dessert, which was a nice touch. Overall, it’s a good spot for Bengali flavors if you don’t mind the high prices

As a Bengali, it’s difficult for me to express the joy at being able to partake in authentic, high quality Bengali cuisine in the US. Truly a memorable experience. The portions were very generous and great value for the price. The decor, presentation, and ambiance was excellent. We came for restaurant week and they ensured that they honored the spirit of it with all menu options mostly on offer. Looking at the regular menu I can certainly see myself coming back soon!!

Went 2/3 years ago when it first opened. It was hard to get a table, and I thought it was just okay. Wanted to give it another try both because of the RW deal (3 courses plus apps for $45pp) and the fact that my partner and I are big fan of all its other sister restaurants, but he still haven't tried this one. Reservation is so much easier now. And this time I genuinely enjoy the meal and feel impressed by the creative combination of flavors (except that the rose milk was too sweet and fish fry too salty despite being delicious). Putting it back on my list and would love to revisit.

Went for the Restaurant Week prix fixe lunch menu - thali experience. Together we covered both veg and non-veg thalis. If you are South Asian: - Spice level and combination: good, but pretty mild. Not particularly memorable - If you are of Bengali descent, this will seem reasonably authentic but probably the mildest flavoring you have ever experienced. The fish fry is excellent, the paneer pakora/cutlet is not (very thin paneer filling). The mustard/kasundi for dipping is on point - Dal is as Bengalis would make it (slightly sweet), without the sliced coconut which would have added real authenticity. - Kosha mangsho (lamb/goat curry) is just about okay though well-flavored - it lacked piquancy - Bengalis will enjoy the drinks menu naming If you are not of South Asian descent: - enjoyable introduction to Bengali home cooking, and good conversation starter if you have Bengali origin friends! - a medley of cool flavors and textures. The non-veg platter (thali) offers good value with prawn and red meat, and a fish fry. Fluffy bread (luchi) makes a nice tool for scooping up gravy too - you will enjoy the cocktails and mocktails. The beer (mango flavored) is nothing amazing in a world of many flavored IPAs and saisons, but is a good enough accompaniment to the spicy food. Photo of non-veg thali, “elaach” mocktail and mango saison attached. Overall 4/5 for adding Bengali food to the Park Slope repertoire!

I have to admit that I am not fun of Indian food and get it every so often, like once in a few years. So I went to this place because it was recommended as something out of this world by a few of my friends. I have to admit, I see their point, everyone mentioned their fish and yes branzino backed in the banana leaf was very very good. Prawns baked in coconut were not bad, too. Minced goat appetizer was too spicy, but, yet that's is my take on it, for the lovers of spicy food it could be just fine. The mixed drink that was way too sweet was removed from the bill without any hesitation. So the only thing I can complain about is they dish size advisory, the main course dishes have been advertised as sharable for 2-3 people. But I can easily finish fish by myself, and there were only 3 prawns in coconut, which is fine for one person, but not really enough to share between 2 people. Another thing, the place isn't cheap for this kind of restaurant and their tip suggestions start from 20%. What happened with good old and very reasonable 18%? I mean, I get it, I am living in the same economy, but I think it is unreasonable, considering that the prices spicy in the first place. 2 beers, 2 main dishes, and 1 appetizer between 2 people with 20% tip will cost you about $100 per person.

We a couple who came in at 8:15pm mid -week, and the place was full, which means that it is apparently a popular place. I should note however that there wasn’t a single Indian in sight. The mango lassi is $10 and in rather small portion, with the glass half full with ice. Since when do you put so much ice in lassi? I think that the lassi represents well the rest of the meal. The first course dishes were ok. We took the vegetarian option of cauliflower and the dish with potatoes and chickpeas. Both were way too spicy. And we are both quite used to spicy foods, but this was exaggerated. For the main course we took the braised goat and the butter chicken. Both are *not* good options. The butter chicken has large chunks of chicken with a very watery gravy, and we only had a small portion of it. The goat is fatty, bony, with some weird spicing. The place was very cold. There are a couple of heaters, but if you are not seating next to one of them, it is cold. Service was pretty good.

Fish fry was my favorite, the chicken appetizer was good, felt the mains (tiger prawns and goat) could have been better. The mains were pretty one dimensional and not worth the price. The tiger prawn tasted more like overcooked shrimp and $31 for only 4 shrimp seemed overkill. Pomegranate drink was just ok. Over all not worth the price at over $170 for two people in park slope.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 — Great service, inconsistent food, and confusing ambiance I visited Masalawala & Sons in Brooklyn for dinner on the weekend. Service was definitely the highlight - top notch. I arrived around 30 min early for my reservation, and they were able to seat me within 5 minutes. The staff was polite, and food came out on time. Food: We ordered the Puchka, Fish Fry, Butter Chicken, and Kosha Mangsho. Puchka (7/10): Great presentation - the server makes them right beside your table, which is a fun touch. However, they don’t provide the spiced water separately. Since all the puchkas are made and served at once, you either have to eat them immediately or they get soggy fast. Fish Fry (7/10): This came closest to what I expected. The fish quality was good, and the texture between the fish and crust was distinct (though a bit mild). My biggest disappointment was the kasundi - it lacked the sharp mustard zing. It tasted like it had been toned down, maybe even mixed with yogurt, leaving it rather bland. Butter Chicken (2/10): Easily the weakest dish of the evening. The gravy was overly runny, as if diluted with milk, and lacked the richness and depth you expect from butter chicken. Kosha Mangsho (4/10): Traditionally, kosha mangsho is slow-cooked so that the onions and mutton develop deep flavor together. Here, it seemed they used onion paste instead of whole onions, which made the dish taste flat and one-dimensional. Atmosphere: The space felt too loud and cramped - tables are close together, the music is loud, and everyone ends up talking even louder to compensate. The decor was also confusing: the menu is distinctly Kolkata-themed, but the wall art and music were more generic Hindi. Not sure what they were trying to achieve with the confused aesthetic. Overall, I appreciated the attentive service, but the food didn’t live up to expectations; especially for a restaurant that draws from such a rich culinary tradition. I really wanted to like this place, but aside from the fish fry (sans the kasundi), the dishes fell short.
