Attended a white and blue birthday party at Sugar Hill. It was a mature crowd, food was provided and the DJs was wonderful, I danced just about all night!
No complaints. Celebrated a friend's birthday here...employees were nice. Bottle service was excellent.
My name is Stephanie we were at the restaurant this past Saturday for a birthday brunch for my sister-in-law
Awesome food, picked up some take out! Nice people too! This place has History..
This place is awesome, however it needs more upgrades in certain areas, for the most the owner staff bouncers are on point..
I been coming to this place over 30 years. Great food and great drinks.
Music and atmosphere was excellent. The two female bartenders are very nice but slow. Furniture needs to be updated
This spot is a vintage gem, great food, service and atmosphere. Give them some love and go for brunch, dinner or karaoke!
The food was warm and exciting, prices OK and service was great. Drinks and beers had a nice selection. Good music.
Great staff and music! Once old school vibe, needs to be full with people all the times they are open. Check it out real Brooklyn, real New York!!!
Orginal owner of the Beautiful Dining and entertainment club. Get your food lovely atmosphere and great hospitality. 40 years and going strong.
It was nice place. It looks small but it's really big inside. It was I guess club time cause they didnt sell any of that food.
I booked a small family reunion with Dawn in mid-November. The room was immaculate and set up on time. The bartender and the security guard were professional and hospitable. We had a wonderful affair.
This place is really nice located at Nostrand and DeKalb Aves in Bklyn. By subway G train to Bedford Nostrand and walk 2 blocks. Brunch served from noon to 2pm. Service is great and a very classy atmosphere. I had steak and eggs with home fries potatoes. Highly recommend it.
I had a memorable Brunch experience. The staff was accommodating and was able to ensure my Brunch date was great. The food was hot and tasty. Hats off to Sugar Hill for making Brunch enjoyable
I've been going to Sugar Hill for years. The atmosphere hasn't changed. Comfortable friendly with people that you know. Marvin has been the same DJ forever and is phenomenal.
We dined inside for the Mother's Day Brunch. The food portions were generous. Try the garlic mashed potatoes and collard greens. My barbecue beef ribs were delicious.
I haven't been back in years, but the food was the same "delicious". I had the Maryland Crab cakes with their homemade sauce, callard greens, potatoe salad and of course their homemade rolls (which I use to travel miles just to get them "yum yum") They stated that they are finally going to start delivery, I can't wait.
The NYE party was ideal. The crowd was mixed and full, but not packed. The music was new house, but not grinding or bass thumping. And after a champagne toast, we had fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and potato salad to keep us going. In such a retro venue, it's all you could ask for.
I lived in Brooklyn many years ago. As a matter of fact, watching the growth of this restaurant. I visited several time as it also had good food, good music and good customer service. As I no longer live in New York, when visiting -this is a place I always visit. Why? Because apparently the name "SUGAR HILL" says it all...this place continues to serve "sweet savory " enjoyment . You will always be SUGAR HILL SATISFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This Is My Most favorite Place In Bklyn To party , Eat, and Have A Cocktail. I recommend Sugar Hill if you want to have a nice place to Party, Or Eat, Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. Very spacious and accommodating. Open 7 days A Week, All year. Great music Djaying on weekends, LEGENDARY PLACE!!!!! 🍹🍻🍸🎤🎼🎶🎹🎉🎂🎊☕🍗🍜🍴💯❤😃.
The very first time I sat down in Sugarhill was special day. William and me plus best friend Francine Sweet attended our wedding at City Hall downtown Brooklyn. Oh my gosh December 30th 2002 TIME FLIES so fast. After the lil wedding the three of us headed over to Sugarhill were we enjoyed a delicious meal. Cant remember what we had but the day was special. And I was very happy my best friend from childhood till present. Was there to experience it with me.
Be prepared to brave the steps. No handicap access. Great music, hefty portions of soul food. No appetizers. Pack your patience & nuts, 30 min wait. Alcohol: $8 wine. Vodka & $10. PAY ATTEN TION! waitress poured water OVER my wine. Showed no remorse. Said "I deluted it". Small place, tables close together. Seating oppor tunities 6ish. We arrived 8 pm. Crowded. Tables accom modate parties of 4 or 8. Be prepared to share seating w/another couple. Mature, friendly HELPFUL people. I would go back. The pix shows women "dancing free style".
We have been going to Sugarhill fir years.Dining there is a lovely experience because of how owner Eddie Freeman designed it.On numerous occasions we love going there.Birthdays, holidays anniversaries, etc.Great food, entertainment and dancing.
This establishment is a truly exceptional find, highly recommended for its superior food and service. The nostalgic ambiance evokes the warmth of home-style cooking from the 1970s and 80s, yet retains a contemporary 2025 flair.
Sugar hill has always been a favorite of mine from the club experience to just going there for dinner. My only wish is that more people frequented this place so it can continue to be maintained because it is truly a staple of bedstuy and one of the last vestiges of the neighborhoods authenticity.
Feel like my Mommer is in the kitchen.! Soul cooking! Finger licking Good! Love the Manager/ servers /ect. loved Sherry. Enjoy her words of wisdom! Will be back to get great food and Her wisdom of life . The world need more people like her. ! She made us feel like family. Thanks again.!
This restaurant serves very old fashioned soul food. It offers a wide selection of southern dishes most people would like. The drinks are excellent and diverse ranging from lemonade, juices, and coke. All of the waiters are sharp and courteous. The wait times are normal with a 20 minute wait for the main courses to arrive. Highly recommend
It had been many years since visiting this spot but it was just as I remembered. The ambiance was excellent, the service spectacular and the food delightful. It was a bit sad to see the local community not taking advantage of this hidden gem.
10/10. I ordered the baked chicken & dressing. It came with two sides, and I chose greens and red beans. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The customer service was excellent. That won’t be my last visit, Lord willing.
Wonderful Atmosphere & the ambiance was elegant. Finding a place to have fun SAFELY during the pandemic is hard but Sugarhill is on point. It Wasn't overly crowded & the tables were spaced appropriately, I also forgot to mention, because if the pandemic seating is outdoors in the venus space. The food is also very good....check out their calender, they have some pretty nice shows coming up
I Love Sugarhill ❤, Great Atmosphere and a Big Dance Floor. Great music with DJ Marvin, Excellent Bartenders, Wine and dine upstairs with white table top 5 star restaurant, the food is very good and Clean surroundings. Great service. Free birthday parties bookings. I recommend this place for All Occasions. ❤💯
Sugar Hill remains a classic venue for the sane and sophisticated. In the early 90's I partied there and on 8/1/20 I returned for an outdoor comedy showcase. The showcase, food and music was wonderful and the outside scenery was exquisite. Social distancing and masks wearing was followed and Mr. Eddie, the owner was still a gentleman. The attending guests were grown and sexy. Crowd maturity and tight security was greatly appreciated. I sincerely look forward to returning and should go by too!
Since this Rona has affected all of our lives, my friend and I ventured out to find an outside eatery. He stopped and said check it out ( crowd and distancing). I was truly amazed when I got out and looked into the outside area. The tables were greatly spaced with umbrellas, there was like a gazebo looking area, and the staff were so inviting...... NOW let’s get to the food !!! I had ribs, cabbage, and yams... OMGGG it was a great size, portion wise ( I had to get a doggy bag), and the martinis hit the spot. The ambience, with the jazz playing was awesome, didn’t want to leave. Love this place !!! P.S. the chocolate cake for dessert was simply Devine !!!
Great atmosphere and tremendously friendly staff we had a ball. We also met some celebrities while we were there Stanley Banks the drummer for George Benson. Also a musical director of James Brown they were friendly and taking pictures with us.
If you like chicken and waffles, this is your spot. They have different flavored waffles/specials. I have yet to try the Manhattan location, but this was phenomenal. I also liked their app they used to let you know how long you had left to wait for a table.
When you first walk in they have all these mirrors along the walls leading up to the restaurant. When we got upstairs we could seat ourselves and the tables settings were just beautiful. Sherry waa our waitress and she was so lovely. My husband even asked her to be his auntie lol he's so silly. But the rolls were amazing!! I love bread. The portions are so big for the price and I ended up ordering too much food but it was great. And they gave me a carrot cake on the house for my birthday. My new goto for breakfast in the Bronx.
A spot that has history attached to it. Headed in this spot the day after St. Valentine and wasn’t disappointed. Rose petals and romantic decor was everywhere, beautiful gesture. The food was fresh and tasty, customer service was amazingly delightful with Ms. Sherry and the MIMOSA was my FAVORITE. A great spot for food, drinks, vibe and convo. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️A total recommendation.
Loved the service from the wait staff, especially Sherry. She was very knowledgeable of the menu options and took great joy in serving us. She's clearly the heart and soul of Sugar Hill. The food was just so well cooked and served with love it felt like down home cooking.
Had one of the best birthdays of my life here. Such great food, fair prices, and the staff are all beautiful, welcoming characters in their own right. Downstairs has an almost Twin Peaks-y, David Lynch-style bar and banquet room, fully equipped with mirrored walls, red velvet, karaoke, and a light up dance floor. Could probably host a couple hundred peeps here. Never having a birthday anywhere else again haha. Thank you for the golden memories, Eddy, Sherry, and Tasha!!!
Literally the best soul food Ive had in nyc. The space is outdated, but in an incredibly charming way. We had the smothered chicken and fried seafood platter - very clearly made with pride and love. Soul food sides were SO GOOD. Proper southern mac n cheese, potato salad, candied yams, and collard greens. Despite being very slow, they presented food properly and some great old fashioned, full table service. I wish i lived closer! Id eat here a lot more.
Sugar Hill is a 👏 MUST VISIT 👏 and bring your friends too Sherry was the best host and told us all about the 45-year history of Sugar Hill and the people who made it special. This beautiful and storied restaurant gives generous portions of southern cooking and incredible service! They are so accommodating and the perfect place for special events. There is a club on the ground floor with karaoke and pool that looks very familiar to a super popular music video iykyk. In a neighborhood that’s rapidly changing, Sugar Hill is an old authentic gem that has kept its shine for decades.
For the New Yorkers who love to find the spots that feel family owned and nostalgic to the neighborhood - this place is it!!! Or for anyone visiting and missing some good homestyle cooking and southern hospitality - I’m telling you this place is it!!! In the literal best way: it felt like walking into a 90’s movie that takes place in NYC. The white linen tables, the tall wine glasses, the warm wood walls and glitzy mirrors, it’s just soo cute. If you stop by, please ask Sherry to tell you about the 45 year history in its neighborhood, you won’t regret it! Also, if you’re a Harry Styles fan you’ll love this place iykyk ;)
I came this place to join a count down party in 2016 from Japan. Guessed the organizer took over this restaurant. Why I went there from Japan ? RPR Sound from Romania, they are a DJ group who are well known in underground club music scene. My FAV. Had a very very good time there. Very far from here to Japan. But long distance did not stop me to fly. That was my 1st trip to NYC.
Beautiful set up mother's day for this old school spot. Saturday brunch was delicious. Mother's day Sunday brunch was good. Collard greens was delicious, fried chicken was fried to perfection, the mac and cheese they need to do better, I had the seafood special that was good. My husband enjoyed his beef short ribs with gravy, my son enjoyed his fried catfish.. I would definitely go back again
Sugarhill is one of my favorite spots to hang in Bed Stuy (and NYC in general). I’ve both hosted and attended so many events there over the past few years and each time the hospitality and vibe is unmatched positivity! Whether you’re coming by the space just to have a meal or to dance until sunrise, you definitely won’t be disappointed with spending time in this timeless venue.
Very nice atmosphere with an outdoor appeal. There are tables all around to see comfortably in and also VIP areas to sit in without paying the VIP price! There it's above seating as well. The lighting is soft and the music is nice and mellow. The bartenders are nice and friendly and will get you right. Awesome experience.
Very nice staff was pleasant and food was good I had the stuff flounder. The pricing was good and affordable. And the bathroom was clean 😊.
Very nice place to eat soul food, and out door dinning has lots space between others, love jazz night can't wait.
I have been eating the BBQ short ribs from Sugarhill for well over 10 years. This is my favorite place in Brooklyn to get them. Actually Sugarhill is the only place in Brooklyn I buy them
It is always my Faborite Place . The Heat needs to be turned up but its cool. The Food has been tasty and the service is Good. I was also here for an event and it was cool.
Went Here for My Birthday with my Husband & Few Friends,Fredo,Ms Shirley,Tess and Few others..It Was Comidians Weekend. .We had a Big Round Table,2 Drinks,The Comidians,Was 3.1 in Perticular Was To Funny Talking about Guatemalan and Pointing Me Out.. Sugar Hill is one of the longest-running supper clubs in Brooklyn proprietor Eddie Freeman is a hospitable gentleman they have the best food music live entertainment that's been serving Brooklyn for many years extraordinary place staff is magnificent the food is very elegantly done and tasteful it's always been my experience with family and friends to go to Sugar Hill 4 magnificent wonderful time and atmosphere continue to keep up the good work as you have for many years and I will always support and most of all tell a friend
Had the chicken and ribs the chicken was fried just the way Momma used to cook it and the ribs were juicy and seasoned just right, I love to chew the bones, somebody must've told the chef.
The stage was a good size and the tables had nice red tablecloths on them. However, it was cold, we couldn't order food from the kitchen and the place needs to be fixed up
The food was great. The waitress suggested items on the menu and explained that everything is made in house and daily. Had the crab cakes, baked half chicken with mac n cheese and yams. Home made half and half . Everything was great
Great 90th birthday party for my mother! The room was beautifully decorated and the food was delicious...it was a great family reunion for all of us. Thank you Sugar Hill!
Sugarhill is a Soul Food restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. Parking can be challenging, but not impossible because the restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood. I recommend this restaurant to everyone who enjoys tasty soul food.
The server, Sherry, was exceptional! Sherry was extremely friendly, gracious and professional. I also really enjoyed the delicious food.
My first time back since partying there back in the 90s. But they are still maintaining the legend. Upstairs is nicely decorated & the breakfast was good. Still a great place to hang out after all these years.
I haven’t eaten at this place in a good 5 years, but the two times I ordered food from there in 2018 and 2019 it was pretty good. The first thing I had from there was a Ribeye and Fries, steak was tender and almost reminded me of the steak you get from Outback and the fries were crispy. The fried chicken while it was a bit light in color was also good. It’s overall a good place if you want to dine in a place with a 1970s vibe, or if you just want to boogie down with local neighborhood folk on Saturday nights. Definitely I would recommend this place.
I left the Rachel Polygon to go here last weekend and it was old school night everybody was dressed up ..They were trying to charge like $45.00 to get in even for Birthday girl...eneded up bargaining to $25.00. The d.j was great...I danced but will not be going back...crowd not for me.
Was just ok, not great southern food. I might have been there on an off day & it might be the great spot I was hoping it would be.
Needs updating and total renovations top&bottom, inside&out. Still a nice old skool catering hall that's been in the neighborhood forever.
Attended a monday night jazz show. It's a down home place with good music but the food needs an upgrade. The fried fish was way too salty and the rice and peas was under cooked and COLD.
Food very good. The place is so dated. Looks like a new jack city scene. Not modern at all but the food and prices are excellent. Sheila the manager is the best. The owner not so much. No parking.
They need to clean the place up. Rough place to have the restrooms in the basement. Very unsafe & unsanitary. No soap, toilet tissue, plus a lot of junk there. Make good money to get in ($10 each person). But dont take care of the Sugar hill. Not to give a function there.
Went here for a party someone was having and let me tell you. They need to Re due this whole place. That first floor bathroom smells like a bathroom at 42nd st. That lil dj booth look like it stink and it gonna fall on the crowd. Idk wt discount they giving out. This place is rannnnnn down
I went there for Mother's Day dinner. Live music played. There was a prefixed menu unfortunately not much of it was available. The server was very nice but appeared to be inebriated. The food was tasty yet a bit salty. Very good portions were served.
This restaurant should consider relocating or closing. The fumes from their heating system made me sick, to the point of passing out. I was unable to dine here.
The drinks are on point however the place is super old is in need of a serious renovation i wouldn't really recommend this place if its your first time but if you've party there back in the day then its still the same
It was nice but to hot inside, and didn't wanna let ppl go out after paying 30.00,we had our own food, nothing included
Didnt like the atmosphere the security didnt do a body check mind you it was only Male security they atm machine doesn't work I ordered a glass of wine and they had the small $3.00 bottles from the liquor store smh never again I only went to Celebrate my friend Birthday
Sugarhill seems to have a host of dedicated customers that keep the business going. The bar tenders have extremely long nails that are unsanitary when making drinks! The long nails come into contact with the inside of every cup and the ice they use to make drinks.... I could not order a cocktail and was forced to order a corona. The bar is very unorganized. This place caters to people 50 and older. I would not recommend it for millennials or anyone under 40!
Was at this establishment on 11/15/20 for a birthday celebration. The birthday girls had 3 bottles on table and not enough glasses. Me and another person went to bar to ask for a glass and then some ice. Literally, I had to go back and forth with owner for a glass and more ice. He said he gave the table ice already. I couldn't believe he actually said that. I reminded him that ice melts. He was reluctant to give me ice. And with attitude he instruct the bartender to put ice in my glass that I had to practically beg for. Never will I do for in establishment again.
The food was not appetizing. It was not what was expected for a catered affair. It was not presented well and did not taste good. The Mac n cheese was clumpy and was not cheesy. The ice tea was pure sugar. The decor is outdated and unappealing. Some of the wait staff were rude and unprofessional. The manager tried her best to be helpful.
Staff was very rude!!! They can't, obviously, handle large crowds. Service was late. But glad my guest know how to conduct themselves, with plates being snatched from out there hands!!!
Security was unprofessional and rude. Love the environment though. Just have to improve on that aspect. Not going back until that problem is fixed, bad for business..... 👎🏾
If u wanna have a good time don't go here. The decor hasn't changed in 35years, dj still spinning records and old ones too, dingy old bathrooms....not the place for me or anyone I know
The owner needs to renovate the restrooms. There's holes all over the place. Personally I don't think they should charge a fee to enter. Peace
The place is out dated the decor to a makeover. The staff is unwelcoming and the service was cold line yiu bothering them ...The food didn't look good but surprisingly the chicken was good but the fish was not. I would not recommend this establishment. The only good thing was that the boiled chicken tasted good lol.
I have not been to Sugarhill in over 15 years. The door staff was wack, pricing is based on footwear, they need a complete internal and external makeover. The DJ was good.
Unbelieveable!!!! I frequented the club over 20 yrs ago. Shame on them for never upgrading, renovating, painting, cleaning, fumigating, etc, this place. Was so expecting a new experience. Sooo disappointed!
Went there for Father's Day. We were the only group seated. Our entire group was not satisfied with the food. I ordered the barbecue chicken wings, which was over cooked. Another guess ordered the barbecue ribs and Oxtails. Did not enjoy the barbecue sauce at all. In overall the food had no flavor at all. salad and drinks was satisfying. They either need a new chef or change their style of cooking. The experience was not worth the price the was spent.
Pros: the fried chicken is good. Cons: everything else. I threw my mom a birthday party here last night. Here’s a run down of the evening. I arrived to no one to really greet me. After paying for the spot. Upon setting up. There was NO AC on at all. I asked the manager (Eddie) for air. To which he replied. No. My chocolate cover fruit was melting before my guest even arrived. I finally had to be a tad more aggressive to get air. Once finally getting air and the party starting it took over an hour to get food that I prepaid for. I had to ask the bar made continuously. Which was always met with an attitude. Once I got the food (which was handed to me in the hallway. (It was not brought into my party. I did it myself. ) I asked for water from the bar maid/cook/dancer. And was told to wait repeatedly. Please keep in mind that liquids are not allowed so I couldn’t even bring in bottles water. The party was for my mom and her guest were of a particular age. There was no water to give them. After asking several times and sending family to ask. The “bar maid” told my cousin they did t have water. SO WHAT WERE YOU GONNA BRING ME THIS WHOLE TIME! The bathroom smells moldy. The DJ was horrible and could not read the room. He almost played Jazz all night. Never even shouted out my mom even though the club was basically empty with just our party. My cousin pointed out roach spray at the bar (yes raid). Overall I’m glad my mom had a great time but honestly as the person who paid. I am not. And would not use them again.
The food was good. I attended a brunch on last Saturday. However the restrooms were DISGUSTING!. The smell was so bad I wanted to go to relieve myself outside on the curb. The door had a high hole in it. Common on Sugarhill I know you see this. You guys are making enough money to fix this place up. The board of health needs to check this place out
No amount of words could do this place justice. Not only is it dated and desperately in need of some TLC and an upgrade, but its filthy and infested with roaches. The carpet looks like it has bedbugs waiting to come out and there is a slight odor in the air constantly. The ceiling is decorated with water stains and holes, there is exposed wires and so much more. This place looks like it hasn't been used in YEARS.
Cold and tasteless . I was so excited to bite into my BBQ ribs. Which were $15 for two ribs. Outrageous! The steak burger was $12.50. I have never paid that much for such a sad looking burger. Overall I am very disappointed and will definitely not spend another penny at the place. Excuse me while I go cook myself something to eat. Pathetic.
