Opinions de Sugarcane Brooklyn
Decent place near the Barclays which was ideal since I came into the city for the Liberty game, the other night! The place was packed for a Taco Tuesday, the service was phenomenal! My only advice is having a happy hour menu for folks coming to see a basketball game or concert. The place would do really well with that option. I thought $93 for drinks and appetizers were excessive though.
Tiny’s Menu was cute! We visited during NYC Restaurant Week. The server, Frank, was a newbie. He did a great job! Very attentive and helpful. The manager also did a great checking in with him and our table to ensure all was well! I’ll definitely be back for another Margarita flight 🍹
I loved this place!! I had tacos and enchilladas here and both were amazing. I went with 'green sauce' for enchilladas and it was a little spicy- i really enjoyed it. We also tried the nacho of the house and loved it too! With black beans and sauce, nachos were somewhere between crispy and soft. Overall satisfaction led us to try their churos and it turned out all we ordered were great!
Adorable little authentic Mexican restaurant in the heart of Brooklyn. Everything is fresh, flavorful and well portioned - You can't go wrong with a single menu item! The unique Birria Tacos with Consume is levels above the rest, full of flavor, while the Carnitas Taco was moist and made to perfection! The sauce options are incredible - Make sure to try the Pumpkin Sauce... WINNING! Say hello to your new best friend, their Elote - You can't get this baby just anywhere... made with homemade mayo and all the trimmings right on the cob. Fajitas are insanely good - You can tell that the chef came from a high-end steakhouse! The guacamole and salsa are a MUST - Creamy and chunky all in one, the guac melts in your mouth while the housemade tortillas offer a perfect crunch (not too soft and not too hard)... Salsa is bursting with flavor and will please every tastebud! VERY RECOMMENDED!!!
I never miss the opportunity to head over to Tiny’s Cantina on my self care days. Happy hour from 4-6:30pm SIGN ME UP! I always go on low key days because I’m one of those people who brings a book to the bar and I feel like you get better service when it’s not busy. The service is ALWAYS good when I go & the food is always amazing, somehow every time I go they end up giving me some samples which I’m not made about. The happy hour margarita will always do it for me, I find that after one I’m feeling really good and ready to order food. My favs so far are the chicken quesadillas and the birria tacos. Both flavorful dishes, can’t wait to go back to try something new.
Really enjoyed dining at Tony's cantina. Seeing that they occupy the old Shorty's location, the atmosphere gives off an elevated dive bar feel. We arrived promptly for our reservation at 7pm and were quickly seated. The staff was very attentive and gave great recommendations. They had an attractive cocktail menu. I started out with the Hibiscus (Blanco tequila, hibiscus liquor, triple sec and lime) followed by the Cactus Pear (silver tequila, triple sec, peach puree, agave and lime) . Both were good strong drinks. I personally preferred the Cactus Pear. Their margarita also gets a good honorable mention. For appetizers, we started out with the guacamole classico and Alas Al pastor (wings with adobo marinade). We received 8 delicious wings served with pineapple salsa. Our dining experience was elevated by our entrees. I had the Camaron BLT (beer battered shrimp tacos served with bacon and aoili) which was delicious. The Birria de Res (pulled beef shank served with bone marrow) was also a winner. For dessert, we shared churros and très leches cake. The sauce of the cake complimented the churros well. We left stuff and happy. Being that they are in a prime location near the Barclays, this place will continue to find business. Can't wait to return and try more items on their menu.
Found Tinys on a Eater recommendation and what a treat! Immediately felt the warmth and hospitality of the staff. Camrones BLT and Birria tacos were both phenomenal and the burrito bowl was so satisfyingly fresh and layered. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
Great service is an understatement. The staff made us feel at home and were incredibly kind & attentive. On top of amazing service, the food was incredible. Rarely does both happen. Highly recommend the birraria tacos, santa segre drink (similar to a spicy margarita) and guac.
Tiny restaurant that packs a punch! Service was a little slow but the waiter apologized several times. The delicious food made up for the wait. The fish tacos were full of flavor. The guacamole (not pictured) vanished within seconds. It was so fresh and the chips were still warm! Highly recommend if you want a yummy bite.
I am a tourist who happened to stumble upon this place and so glad I did. Food was amazing, margarita was great! Happened to be restaurant week, so there was a optional special menu and all courses were delicious!!
I've been so lucky lately. I came out of the Barclay's and found Tiny's Cantina! What great place, the food, service and atmosphere didn't disappoint! I might go to another Nets game just to eat there! Very, very yummy Mexican food!
It was a treat to visit Sugar Cane BK last week to celebrate my son's birthday. This place has always been great. I started eating here back in 2015. Glad to see they have kept their greatness. Recommendations; Drink:A Sorrel with rum Food: Buss up shot roti. The oxtail and rice and peas The kids liked the tacos Explore the menu --lots delicious Caribbean dishes
Sugarcane still reigns supreme in BK. It's cozy and the hospitality is grand. From the hostess, wait staff, and bartenders, the care is abundant. Our server Shana, surely misspelled, was a super nice. She caught us off guard with the Trini accent and come to find out she come from yard. She was too cool and helpful. She recommended the sorrel or passion fruit house margs. We tried those and mango. Turns out she was on point. Sorrel was the best! Out of the 6 we ordered, it was the go-to 50% of the time. Our spring rolls were good too, had about 7 but they ran out of the plum sauce with tamarind. Calamari came out hot and it was tasty. Rings only, no baby pieces on the plate. Glad to see the absence of tiny baby tentacles. If you go for the drinks, ask V to make your drinks. He was attentive and aims to please. Easy going guy with mixology skills. The highlight of the night was the manager, he is a tall older gentleman with locs but the care he gives to the staff and patrons alike is 2nd to none. He was working on his day off! Whether it is your 1st time or it has been a while, check out Sugarcane.
Yoo, I kid you not this place did not disappoint at all !! Everything that was ordered was so delicious. We ordered the oxtail with two sides, the red snapper Trinidadian style and shrimp.. everything had its own taste and was amazing 💯💯 those oxtails were so juicy and succulent I was full but kept eating because it kept calling me 🤣🤣 I forgot what drinks we ordered but they were good as well. Will definitely be back to try more 🙌🏾 Also shout out to the waiter I didn't get his name but he was so attentive and very nice 💯💯
Sugarcane was a vibe! Great music, delicious food and drinks. Our waiter Jodie was attentive, professional and helpful in recommending dishes for my daughter and I. It was our first time visiting the restaurant but definitely won't be our last. It's well worth the trip from the Bronx. Thanks Jodie for your service! See yall soon.
12/4 update: back for dinner. I had the Brisket Tacos again and they were just as good. I had the cornbread and that was really good too. Rob the BT was cool & service was good. 11/19/21 First time here. Lunch break. We sat at the bar because tables only hold 4 and we were 5. The food is great! I had the Brisket Tacos, a side of rice n beans and a tres leches cake, got that to-go and it was good. The Tacos were really good and built well, I would get them again. Rice n beans were ok, nothing special, could use some spices and yellow would be better than white rice. Chips n salsa were complementary and were good, chips are homemade or seem to be. Service was good and friendly. We will definitely be back. Happy hour specials (Mon-Fri) House margaritas $5. Beer specials and 2 food specials.
Nice selection of tequila and mezcal. Amazing cornbread. Brisket tacos are fantastic, you won't want to share them. Flavored margaritas are on the sweeter side so order them skinny. Friendly and attentive staff.
The food presentation was great the drinks where on point. The Guacamole was a little to salt and need more chips. The shrimp taco was great and the cheese was so fresh on the bowl dish. Desert was a great portion For sharing . The staff is new still good job.
I liked the taco options, it was hard to choose one. After weighing the birria, barbacoa and pork, I settled on the birria. The delivery was ok, it was a heavy taco, with a deep fried(?) shell. Flavour was good, especially with the accompanying consomme or the sauces. The marrow was underwhelming. I also had the hibiscus margarita, which was well made and quite interesting.
I visited this restaurant with 2 others without reservation at around 7:30pm a friday night. It wasn't very crowded or busy which is good. The music is pumping great music, but sometimes its a little too loud for me. I had jerk chicken with rice and peas and fried Plantains. I wish they jerk was more jerky, but i like the portion of chicken. My friend had the calaloo which he said was the best he had in NY. The house made ginger beer was perfect.
Me and my bestie wanted to do bottomless brunch and this place had the best options for our vibe. I like how they have 3 different pricing options for brunch which is good if you don’t want normal brunch drinks!! The restaurant itself is very cutesy and quaint the decor kinda reminds me of Lamias. Now let’s get to the food I had oxtails …. but my bestie had pasta and honestly we couldn’t stop raving about it the sauce was so good the noodles was perfect it was just yum the drinks were made just right too!! Will sneak up on you so be careful we’re adding this to our go to place
I haven't been to Sugarcane in years, went to a concert at the Barclay's, and decided to sit down for dinner and drinks before the show. We ended up at Sugarcane, almost forgot how small and cozy this place was. The got seated in 10 minutes last min on a Sat night was great. The food and waitress did their best to make sure our food and drinks came out fast. being that we were on a time crunch. The food was good, my sister didn't like her chicken it was burnt and she couldn't eat it. My food was good. I had the jerk chicken with trini fried rice with coleslaw, and it was all good. my friend got the fried chicken, she liked it. but the Star of the show was the piter of rumpunch omggg...soo good. I miss my hometown Brooklyn, always the best food and drinks. Needless to say, Sugarcane still got it after all these years...
I miss Marlon. The is good though I wish there were more options for vegans like a pasta dish or how they use to have the chickpea tacos which I never got to try bc it would be sold out. So now all I really eat from here is the vegetable roti or the callaloo soup or salad. The drinks are amazing! Presentation may change on certain days and/or hours or bartender.
Pretty great night celebrating my girl. I had the jerk salmon and I won’t say I’ll try it again , but my friends jerk chicken and snapper fish with the cilantro sauce thing was sooo good . The coconut rice was good too and the plantains were so great . The drinks are strongggg! Not bad at all as an overall experience.
Great service at Tiny’s. The waiter was really friendly. If you get there around 5pm when it opens, you can seated immediately. They play good music in there too. We ordered the nachos, fruit punch Jarritos, shrimp burrito and the chicken fajitas. I like the chicken fajita but wished there was more chicken versus the onions and peppers.
Winter Beer and I came here for a catch dinner before the holidays. The restaurant was empty with only one couple at the bar. We decide to sit at the bar since there was only one person working at the bar. They do have happy hour specials. We ordered a Tiny's nachos. It was a bit smaller than expected but it was tasty. I was three bites in before a long hair was baked into my cheese. I tried to get the attention of the bartender and he was swamped as another couple and solo diner came in. When he finally came over I told him what happened and he whisked it away very quickly cutting me off. I guess he didn't want the other diners to hear about the hair, which is understandable but still rude. He offered to remake the dish which I did accept. I ordered the chicken flautas which thought they were okay. Nothing to really write home about. The shrimp diablo was tasty but the dish needed a dash or two of hot sauce to really kick it up a notch. My friend got the grilled chicken burrito bowl. They thought it was okay but wasn't very tasty and bland. They added hot sauce but it was still disappointing. We ordered churros to round out the meal and they were tasty. The nachos and shrimp diablo was the highlight of the day.
I think this place is excellent for drinks and chips, but we came to dinner here and ended up paying too much for what we got. The birria tacos were great! The chicken fajitas were not that good. Nachos were good and drinks too. We just left the place feeling we hadn’t eaten that much and we still payed 60+ per person. Would come back for happy hour but not for dinner.
Very small spot, staff was very welcoming and nice, Food was presention was very nice, order appetizers wings, Guacamole, and nachos I was blown away by how good the appetizers taste and couldn't wait for the main course to come, when the food came it absolutely sucked I was very disappointed not what I expected. It's definitely worth the visit for a sit at the bar and have appetizers because they where amazing 3 star rating
I actually came to Sugarcane ten years ago with a different friend and enjoyed the cocktails more than the food. Another friend that moved out of NYC was in town and I suggested we go to Sugarcane instead of the other place we originally suggested. My friend had the pasta with salmon and liked it. I had the Stew Chicken that I requested with rice and peas and plantain but I was given Mac and cheese instead. The stew chicken had a weird taste that was not sweet or savory. We also had an appetizer we shared. French fries with shrimp were what we choose. It was good, better than my entree for sure. French fries and shrimp Appetizer : 4/5. Pasta with salmon (friend’s dish) : 4/5. Stew chicken with macaroni and cheese & plantains : 3/5 Passion fruit colada : 5/5 Colada (friends drink) : 5/5. [he wanted another one to take home] The drinks are very good in here. Best part of this restaurant. We could’ve had better service and more attentive waiters. Overall, I’d still come back and we were in before the Sunday rush.
Went a week after the grand re opening. Place gets crowded fast after 5:30 so it’s a good idea to try and go early. They were short staff which caused drinks and food to take a while to come out. There was one person at the door, one bringing out food and one making drinks…for the whole restaurant. We had two orders of wings and fries but only one came out. We had to wait a while for the second order. The food was good though. The bathroom could be cleaner. The place just opened and the female bathroom was out of order (I feel like they turned it into a staff bathroom) so everyone had to use the men’s room with wasn’t the cleanest. The bathroom needs to be cleaned more frequently. We went for happy hour so not sure if the prices and deals then are the same now.
It has a interesting bathroom! Small place with outdoor seating. Music next door was way louder than the restaurant. Food was nice but my shrimps were slight grill burnt like it was rushed. Pasta was good tho. Lot of ppl inside just drinking, they have only drink or dine in and drinks. Our drinks were strong but itwas just ok on the taste. Mango slices that came with some drinks were my favorite. Auto 20% tip for group 4+ Everybody was nice and attentive but the food took a long time to come out.
Decided to try this place after years since they rebranded, food is decent except they didn’t have the calamari or crab cakes apparently. Service 100% sucks and they automatically charge you 20% no matter the group size (which is why they don’t care) and the choice to play pop music was ridiculous to me (since we we’re at a Caribbean restaurant) it completely killed the vibe. I honest would not recommend with all the other good Caribbean restaurants in the area.
I honestly was super disappointed during my visit here . 1. The food taste is not definitely not the greatest . Very Oily and greasy , when it comes to the tacos. Barely any real flavor 2. The Bartender doesnt not know how to make drinks correctly. puts lots of ice and barely any liquor. Which is super sad . 3. In general Management is poorly managed Would not be coming back to this restaurant and wouldn’t recommend.
I am very dissatisfied with the service at Sugarcane BK. I made reservations and when I arrived, there were no tables available and we had to wait for people to leave and them to clean. Not only did all the food take forever to come out, but they were very disorganized, and all over the place. If I order appetizers, I would expect them to come out before my entrees, not alongside them. If I order peas and rice, I expect that to be on my plate, not a side of vegetables . When I bring this up to the waiter/alleged manager 'Wendell' he did nothing to accommodate me, but tacked on a mandatory 20% gratuity. I am very disappointed in the service here because the food was actually pretty decent. Unfortunately, I will not be returning as a result of this experience and would not recommend.
I ordered food from grubhub and only half my order came. There is also no side with the curry goat and no option to add a note or pick a side. Large curry goat $17 and doesn’t even come with white rice. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The only thing the manager did is refund what didn’t come (sorrel) but I still didn’t eat the food because it just came with meat and no rice. There are too many restaurants that offer more for your money; just order elsewhere!
