Opinions de Swallow Cafe Brooklyn
Excellent slot for high quality coffee and espresso drinks. Kitchen that prepares some food, like the delicious juevos rancheros, and good pastries. Fair amount of seating.
Never seen more hipsters in one place in my life. But they make a mean cbd latte and an amazing chai latte so - it’s a new fave!
I go out of my way to go here. The cleanest pour overs I've ever had make the tastiest coffee. Everything else is great too, food wise :D
Romantic and endearing. Their 2nd floor is a small loft that’s a pirate ship -esque nook. It is a 2012 era designed place, think Foster the People and galaxy print shirts
I can't say enough great things about this cafe. This area has many coffee shop/cafes but Swallow is a standout. It is airy and comfortable inside with nice tables for socializing or working. The vibes are good, the decor is minimal, and warm and it's always spotless. The staff here is why I kept coming back initially. They are interesting, engaging people who listen to what you want, and deliver. I look forward to seeing them everyday. I have seen it be crazy busy here on a Saturday morning and they are efficient and kind, no one is flustered or making you feel rushed. I have had many things to eat here and must give kudos to the beautifully made matcha latte's, almond croissants, the Swallow sandwich, egg sandwich, and vegan peanut butter cookies. This cafe has become a regular for me and my girlfriend and for me to work solo. I am a big Swallow fan.
Killer cafe with a rotating coffee roster. Had one of the best espressos of my life today, not to mention a killer Kenyan pour over from Heart Roasters. Ran into a problem where my food order didn't get placed to the kitchen. The barista gave us a free pastry and then refunded the order. Great way to handle this situation! Will be happy to visit again and again.
Great random find while strolling in Brooklyn heights. My eyes got caught by the punny name (what can I say I love pun!) and the great ambiance inside made me stay for a coffee and a pastry. They use actual dishes instead of single use cups, offee was good and hot, prices are okay and the music choices suited the place. Loved it !
Cute spacious coffee shop with good food selection. More food choices are on sandwich side than pastries though. There are some dedicated non-laptop tables, but otherwise the place is pretty good for work/study. Also, try the CBD Latter with cannabis oil!
Amazing Cafe , Great location 5 mins from dumbo , excellent coffee and food , funky vibes & awesome for a quick bite or takeout
Really friendly staff. Coffee was really good, and had an amazing little fruit and cream cheese muffin. Indoor and outdoor seating were both great.
nice cafe. if you dine in, they serve the coffee in glass cups which i thought was nice! there are some tables with outlets, so i was able to work with my laptop there.
Great little coffee shop. We had an Airbnb a few doors down on Atlantic ave for our stay in New York, best coffee I found in the area, whoever said Americans couldn’t make coffee hasn’t been here.
Rustic, comfortable cafe with light fare and friendly service. Multiple baristas so our wait was short even while the cafe was filled. There are some tables for working near the back.
So good, neighborhood gem. Amazing coffee, great service that's friendly, knowledgeable Baristas who aren't pretentious, relaxing atmosphere, no panhandling outside.
Get the grilled chicken sandwich with apricot and cranberry chutney and arugula on rye, you won't regret it
I love this place, I’ve never stayed and drank my coffee but it seems like it would be nice. Lots of tables, more outside and ever a sort of balcony with wonderful tiny tables. I get a red eye with oat milk every time and I’ve had a few of what I call ‘coffee buddies’ little friends for my coffee like a cookie or pastry. They’ve all been delicious. Then have a whole selection of food that I will get around to trying, I’m sure it holds u.
Cute, charming space... Any cafe that has Turkey Bacon always gets Me! That Fort Greene sandwich with Avocado added was exceptionally delicious!
The hot coffee is smooth as can be and has just the right amount of boldness. The cold brew, when paired with oat milk, is heavenly creamy. With an aesthetically pleasing interior, this coffee shop is inviting in both atmosphere and customer friendly staff. I could spend several hours here with a book and have an amazing time. Five stars all around.
Food and smoothies are great. Prices are great. Coffee isn’t my favorite and the sizes are small. I typically grab food to go or get a coffee elsewhere first. Regardless will continue coming here regularly. Especially on a lazy Saturday morning. If you’re ordering delivery you may have to wait a bit, but if you have time it’s well worth it.
Best coffee we found in Brooklyn/NYC.
I have been obsessed with Swallow Cafe's food for years via delivery apps. The Brooklyn Heights sandwich and the Very Berry smoothie are my delicious go-tos. Today, I stopped into the restaurant and was even more impressed. These space is so cool with brass chandeliers and a wooden staircase to a lofted workspace. The woman working was so friendly and lovely. It made me want to make this my new work-away-from-home spot.
Super cool building and comfortable seating. Nice big windows for people watching on Henry St or along Atlantic Avenue. I like to come here to read or get some work done and enjoy a cup of coffee. They also have very good sandwiches and salads. I recently had their Fort Greene sandwich. It’s a turkey sandwich which is hearty and filling. All around good vibe at the place.
Was looking for a spot to chill.and came up on Google. Cool spot with hot food, coffee and tea. Two levels.of seating. The upper level looks very cool. It was late morning and most folks were on their laptops. I had a chai latte and it was good. I would go back when in the neighborhood again.
Beautiful space, counter culture beans, decent cafe food. Great to have in the neighborhood. Baristas can be hit or miss, but recently have been great. Love their house-made vanilla syrup too. Converted from an exotic restaurant, high ceilings and elaborate atmosphere, a great place to spend a coffee break.
Great place, great vibes, great service, but pricier than other shops in the area. Only really worth it to me if there’s space to sit in the mezzanine.
Randomly stumbled upon this place driving by and decided to stop in. It’s cozy and comfortable. Good vibes and natural lighten. Has good amount of seats but have to catch one when it isn’t busy. I ordered the Brooklyn heights sandwich w/ chai tea. 👌🏾 so good. Def would recommend this place to chill and get work done or to simply get a bite to eat and relax.
Stopped in the other day to warm up a little while shopping in the area with my partner and had a lovely baklava latte in the little loft area. Coffee was bold, rich, and delicious, and you could definitely pick up on the nuts and honey taste they were going for with the baklava flavor! Hypnotically creamy foam head on the latte that dazzled both my partner and I. The interior design and vibe is intimate and vintage cozy, with some lovely vintage impressionist maritime themed paintings on shiplap panels on the wall. The only caveat I will say is that the benches in the loft seating area badly need a reupholster and those lovely paintings ought to be restored a little and given a better layer of protective coating so that they can be the statement pieces they deserve to be. It's sad to see such lovely pieces scuffed in spots and chipping without any kind of protective glaze!
Total local hangout with great unique taste to simply good things in very romantic college cafe feel of comfort where the old meet the young, interchanging energy and generations in such pleasant way. ^&^ I can come back to this good feeling corner cafe.
Sweet service and a the coffee was solid. The owner is such a nice guy- Ran into him at the Bedford location and enjoyed our chat so will support his shops
Decent coffee and really cute seating set up with a loft area. FYI if you’re looking for a free public restroom in the area there is one in the same building! Go all the way downstairs when you enter- follow the murals. The staff will direct you. Came here all the time when I was nannying & we needed to go potty after the park.
First time in Brooklyn, had a flight cancellation until the next day so while visiting my cousin here, I stopped in for some much needed caffeine. Service was stellar, being greeted & served upon entering. The ambiance of this old building is wonderful, the coffee had a great blend of flavors, the staff was friendly & chill, good vibes all around. My order was iced cold brew with a double shot on top, no cream no sugar. This definitely packed a lunch & is usually my go to order at any coffee shop. They did not disappoint what so ever. They have enough seats to accommodate a decent size crowd, with additional spots on a loft like area, which adds to the cool factor of this place. It was definitely a great choice.
Y’all I’m losing it, this is THE spot for cozy coffee shop that feels like hometown (insert late 90’s/early 2000’s tv show vibes here). We’ve got Clinking of ceramic plates and mugs, low key barista who’s chatting in a way that feels familiar, coffee absolutely on point, wooden tables that feel clean and lived in, journey downstairs to the bathroom that feels like it could be a mini golf course. I want nothing more than this.
AMAZING CAFE AMAZING ATMOSPHERE ☕️ Swallow Cafe is an absolute 💎 in this Cobble Hill / Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. It feels very warm and the spacious layout / high ceilings feel extremely inviting. It’s a great place to just relax with morning coffee and perch yourself at one of the many seating areas inside (or outside). Large windows allow you to people watch. The pastries are very good and the drinks are as well. But what really sets this place far above other cafes is the atmosphere. If you’re going to pay NY prices for a coffee and a pastry, best to have it in a setting that allows you to enjoy it! Find your happy place at Swallow Cafe! Highly recommended 👍🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve been to quite a lot of cafes, and this one takes the cake! The many times I’ve dined in and took the time to enjoy its ambience, food and decadent coffee I’m left feeling brighter about my day and the state of our world. The baristas, especially the sweet strawberry blonde one, are always too kind! A must try cafe!
Literally the best and one of my favorite cafes to work, dine, and play. And by play I mean a coffee date! The cafe is so warm and the staff is amazing. Oh and the food is next level! The chef should open a brunch location! The baked egg with cheese and mushrooms is so tasty and flavorful. I usually order a side of tomato spread for my toast, thank me later!
Decent coffee, fairly priced, BK-cool baristas. Didn't have their food.
Good coffee and croissants, large storefront window let's in lots of light, friendly staff, mezzanine seating area allows for great views of Atlantic ave. & café goings on👍
Cramped but cute. Soup I got from here was delish. First time here but my cousin is a regular. If you're coming to do work on your laptop, the earlier the better because this place isn't big. The menu is definitely intriguing and I will come back next time I'm in the area. Not a coffee drinker so cant comment on that but I'm sure they're doing something right as it's a popular spot so people should stop by.
I like the high ceiling and the feel when you sit on the balcony level and people watching. The seats could be much more comfortable tough. Ok coffee, I am not a huge fan of counter culture coffee:)
My regular coffee place. Coffee is decent but as good as, say, Blue Bottle. It's a beautiful space though, and a good place to work from if you need to (I don't).
Swallow Cafe is extremely cute and I had a solid good vanilla latte from here today. I stopped by this morning on my way to work and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere of the place. It's very rustic and quaint and, honestly, quiet. There's a loft type area in the middle of the place and it's super cute - I wished I had something to study or do from the moment I walked in and saw it. I had a vanilla latte to-go and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It was almost as if there was cinnamon in it as well and it was a really unique addition to the overall flavor. AND there was latte art on it even though it was to-go. Maybe it's just me, but I see it as a special place if they take time to do latte art on to-go lattes. I'm already stoked to go back here and spend an afternoon drinking coffee, "working" and appreciating life.
Can't speak on the food, but great coffee. Nice spot to sit, read, do some work, and just chill.
It was nice. Couple of Cowboy Bebop soundtrack played. That was neat. Good vibes overall. Will do it again!!👍
If you are from out of town and need a place to grab good coffee, set up a lap top, and get a bit done, this place is for you. The friendly staff is nonetheless serious about their coffee. The area towards the back is out of the bustle of the front serving/to go area. Tall windows allow in light. Great place to start a day in New York.
Cute place to sit down and complete assignments or to grab a quick bite. Only thing is you may have to either arrive early or an hour before closing to get a seat/table. There also aren’t many outlets, I’m not sure about the upstairs portion of this cafe though. The outlets in the downstairs area are located on the left sided tables when you walk in. (tables near the windows) This place also closes at 7PM but the kitchen closes at 4:45pm so if you want any food, make sure you order it before that time. Drinks are still available and served till closing.
Lovely little coffe shop, small sized but cool interior. Had the hot chocolate with oat milk which was good but a little under sweetened. Definitely a popular spot and I have some friends who really like the coffee here. Worth a stop in. They also have a decent sized food menu of salads, smoothies, wraps and such. if you're looking for that along with your coffee.
Yes, more tables, more tables, more money!!! Why 3 stars. I’m first time here. Table I took is broken and shaking. Other table also. So just put it to garbage, think about guests.
I don’t know why but every time I order a vanilla late it tastes like some other flavor. Given it about 10 tries and everytime is the same. Also quite slow — I feel like they’re only popular because they have ample seating.
Food and coffee is good but i saw the barista cleaning the floor with the same rag she was using for the machine and the counter and that was it for me... she rinsed it (no soap) and kept using it, disgusting!
really wanted to like this place but staff was focused on turn over of the line instead of valuing customer service. wish i got the sandwich id ordered but you can only watch so many coffees being made before you start to wonder, is this discrimination?
Cold, unwelcoming staff. I got a green smoothie that just tasted like ice and kale lol! Nice spot to sit and watch the scene or study, chill music and there is a bathroom there but hopefully other people have a better experience!
The cafe itself is quite nice inside, though the atmosphere is let down by being yet another place where people are bedecked in laptops and “working” remotely. Outdoor tables are nice, though be aware you are on the corner of Atlantic Ave and Clinton St, so a fair bit of traffic noise. The coffee I had was decent (cold brew) so plus points there. Baked eggs were fine, though nothing special. The two girls serving were pleasant enough but I was irritated to find out that, for some unexplained reason, use of actual crockery, cutlery, and glasses is not allowed if you are sitting at one of their outdoor tables! Instead, you are forced into being non-environmentally considerate and using wasteful plastic cups, cutlery, and take out containers. NYC cafes seem to love using wasteful packaging rather than reusable wares, with most customers happily using plastic cups even when sitting in. A shame, as it is a nice enough place let down by all the little niggles.
Title: Swallow in Brooklyn: A Culinary High with Service Lows" Quick lunch at Swallow: outstanding Apple Cranberry Mixed Greens and a delectable Swallow Sandwich. Cozy cappuccino, but seating's a self-service puzzle. No diet sodas, water's on you, and utensils are finders-keepers. Dessert was a candy bar adventure, minus pastries. And a heads-up: no restroom! Great eats; service needs wings. ★★★
Overpriced, bland drinks…but the space looked nice inside. We got both of the fall special items (pumpkin latte and apple cider) and both were disappointing. At $7 each (for a size small), you go in with expectations of flavor but both tasted watered down…with the pumpkin not having a hint of pumpkin. Imo, to charge $7 for small fall drinks is already steep, so they better be incredible. Not going back.
Salad had moldy vegetables and I needed to throw it out. Nice vibe and space to work but the place is not clean
I walked pass this cafe and thought it was really cute, went in for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. When I walked in, it was not busy at all, a couple ordered right before me and no one ordered after me. After placing my order, i asked for a cup of water and they said I can wait outside and they will bring my order out. After 15 minutes of waiting for my sandwich, I went back in and the cashier said he will go check up on the sandwich. He comes back out to confirm my order.... What? shouldn’t it be ready by now. So I asked for a refund... Basically they never made the sandwich. I gave them a 2 because the coffee was decent, but the service horrible.
I got charged $1 extra for asking for less ice in my ice latte. It is not that they gave me more coffee to fill up the cup for the dollar. I asked the barista if I heard correctly and that I didn’t want more coffee but I was told a second time that it is their policy to charge more for less ice. I got charged for a swipe of hand to diminish the ice they gave. I was with friends and I cared to keep up good vibes, but I would have had a different exchange here had I been alone.
Right off the bat I didn’t have a good feeling about the girl barista. I went against my better judgment and patiently waited my turn to be served. Not only was the coffee subpar but the service was passive aggressive with a sprinkle of condescension. The decor was nice and seemed like a great place to hangout in. Unfortunately, I will be avoiding it. As mentioned, the coffee itself was meh and not even worth going back for.
Food way too expensive for how it’s quality and taste. Seasonal coffees taste like their advertised flavor the same way Lacroix does. People are very nice though.
barista was super rude, made our whole group very uncomfortable. wouldn't go back
Today, I went for a short walk and decided to stop by and buy coffee. I didn’t want to write a review but I was really bothered that I asked to use the bathroom after ordering my coffee and the barista said NO. The store is open and it said bathrooms for customers only. I’m 8 months pregnant and I thought it was cruel and awful to deny me use the bathroom. I’m deeply upset, I don’t think I will ever go back again to a place.
The new staff have been horrible. Every time you walk in they're just chatting it up even when you're approached and standing at the register, they'll finish their conversation before serving you. Whenever I order pastries I have to remind the cashier (tall chubby man with glasses, ALWAYS talking to colleague when there is customers standing in front of him) that I've ordered a pastry. Previous staff would just grab the pastry since it's literally right next to the register and then you wait for your drink order. Also multiple occasions he would mistaken my Mocha order for a Matcha and then not put down that I need diary free milk when requested. The previous staff was just so much more on top of their game and the new staff literally all they do is talk and mess up your orders.
I purchased a cider, sandwich and bought a book. The food and drink were sub-par, but if it weren't for the horrible service and rude staff I wouldn't have left a review. His comments were rude and his pompous service was more than I expected. I bused my plate to the trash by the door, he said there is a bin around the corner for that, but if youre leaving I'll take it this time. That place is not visible if you've sat in the front. I handed him my plate and said, sorry, I didnt know I'm just visiting. I started out the door and he replied "Good I guess we won't see you again" If I could give 0 stars I would have. In an area full of other options take your business elsewhere, where your patronage is appreciated!
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! Jeffrey the waiter was so mean to me. I had to call 3 times to get my order which I had to wait 40 minutes for. The first time I called they told me that it was already in progress and would be a couple of minutes. 10 minutes later the Second time I called they said they just received the order and would be another 10 minutes. I waited 10 minutes and watched people that had come before me, walk out with my food. Then I called a third time, Jeffrey hung up on me, and then came out 5 min later with my food and did not make any eye contact with me and just brushed past me, not saying anything. Also my smoothie was completely melted, so I am pretty sure it was ready 20 minutes before he brought it out. Ill be making a formal complaint with the owner as well since this place is clearly lacking any sort of good management, both with the servers and the chefs.
The barista denied service to me and my service (not emotional support) animal, after I explained he was indeed a service animal. Not only is doing so extremely disrespectful, but it is also in direct violation of the federal American Disabilities Act (ADA).
I had the worst experience here. Baristas were very snobby and took forever to take my order. I had the egg dish and it was burnt and over cooked. STAY AWAY. Stumptown opened up down the street, definitely a better option
As a group we got a dirty chai (just not an enjoyable flavor at all), cappuccino, latte, and matcha tea latte (just warm milk with a tiny hint of matcha). All of them were absolutely terrible. Maybe it was just the particular coffee beans or barista but it was a severely disappointing experience.
Almost every table and chair is extremely wobbly and uneven - there’s been no investment at all in comfort and making sure customers have room to even move around and pull out their chairs without dropping something or accidentally hitting another person. Their only table that has some stability and enough room to hold laptops and coffee is a “no laptop table” even when there aren’t other decent tables available to work at. Food is also incredibly expensive and overrated.
First time ever ordered a seasonal latte for over $9 lol, cause they charge light ice for extra $1 without letting you know in advance.
Awful!!!! 7bucks for a cappuccino. White gender studies baristas treating everyone like they owed them their life. No bathroom, when people think of reasons to hate on Brooklyn they most think of this place. Please don’t ever go there. Is everything wrong with the world today in one place.
Very rude owner. Place seems like it’s more of a working cafe. Pretty much no place to sit because everyone is working on their laptops on a weekend
