Opinions de Uzuki Brooklyn
I was invited there and liked the decors right away. Japanese style drapes at the entrance, very nice arrangements and rooms. This is a soba focused place and I had the duck and Uni (with a touch of truffle) cold soba dish and it was exceptional! Balanced, flavorful, exceptionally clean taste. BTW, buckwheat (soba noodles base) are gluten free. The waitress then told us that the pottery (bowls and tea cup) were all made locally by the chef, making each dish served in a unique manner. I HAD TO see it and ... went on the back. The chef was very kind and explained a bit - of course I expressed that I was delighted. Frankly never went to a place where the food was so good, the decor so unique and the dishes hand made by the chef as well. My overall assessment is that this is a must-go place really (I had such a good vibe).
Amazing gluten free soba noodles! Loved the combination with the tempura, squash & goodies that came with it. Flavorful, healthy & cozy/comforting meal. Super cute ambiance, friendly service. Couldn’t have been happier- highly recommend!
The place really makes you feel as though you have been transported to Japan with its calm presence. We were able to walk in without having reservations. There is a small lounge and bar area when you walk in plus two separate eating areas and a private room in the back. We ordered two dishes to share: one hot/ one cold. They were both delicious and different enough from one another. The authentic soba noodles are made in house. The cold Salmon Ikura Soba with the sweet dashi was my preference. The Duck Shio Soba was served hot and came with 3 different preparations of duck. The two entree bowls were more than enough food, we could have easily shared one. Presentation is well thought out with the fresh ingredients being strategically placed for viewing. The food is presented in these gorgeous works of art one of a kind dishes that the owner/chef makes there. They are available for sale along with other pieces of his in the back of the restaurant. Our waitress was so informative and attentive. She really guided us on what to have. I can't wait to go back and try something else.
The udon is exceptional — rich, flavorful, and unlike any other I’ve had. While the price is higher than your typical bowl, the quality and craftsmanship absolutely justify it. The interior has a beautiful, calming aesthetic, and watching people participate in a ceramics class added such a creative and charming atmosphere to the space.
Favorite restaurant in NYC. Get tofu and eggplant for appetizers, the duck shio or black truffle soba for your main, and the Kyoto for a cocktail. Ambience is a delight, feels like you’re in an artist’s studio, and the colorful ceramics and food presentation elevate it further. Prices are steep so it’s not a come-every-week affair, but for the right occasion or guest from out of town that you want to impress, this is it.
an awesome dining experience!! every detail here rlly makes my time so worthwhile. very spacious dining area with the friendliest staff. decoration was so amazing every corner looks extraordinary for photos. we got the duck shio soba, salmon ikuri soba, unagi & duck stamina soba, which were all very good. it came in huge portion and very pretty bowls (which i think the handmade them in the backroom??) oh and the monk mocktail was so delicious too!! yuzu soda was a little sour though amazing spot for any family and intimate occasions !!
It doesn’t get better than this! Been to countless restaurants and Uzuki stood out for its next-to-none craftsmanship, amazing food, and lovely atmosphere. Check out Bon Appetit’s video on Uzuki (“A Day Making Some of the World’s Best Soba Noodles”) to see how much skill and artistry goes into these noodles. We got the tofu, salmon ikura cold soba, duck soba, and soba ice cream and every bite of each dish was incredible. Was truly worth every cent! The ceramics they use are also full of character and actually made by the chef himself!
Uzuki was overall an amazing experience and one of my favourites in NYC! It was very unique and hit a high mark for everything. The ambience and interior were captivating, and the overall service was nice. My boyfriend and I are big fans of cold noodles and sashimi so the cold salmon ikura udon really hit the spot for us. I didn’t order the hot duck shio soba but my friend who did said it was delicious! I tried a bit of their broth and it was very flavourful. If I were to go back to NYC I would definitely come back to Uzuki to try out more things from their menu since it was definitely one of my favourite highlights of my trip!
All the soba tofu dishes were pretty good- I think those were the highlights of the meal. There was a soba tofu appetizer as well as a soba tofu (branded as mochi) dessert. Can skip soba sushi (we got yellowtail), got the duck (3 ways) shio and the black truffle curry - I think the duck shio is more classic and black truffle curry was more adventurous? I liked the classic broth better but…. Black truffle curry was def more unique. Their cucumber wasabi was great! Pricy meal though.
Solid food at a higher price, good for an occasion. Besides the food, the service was very friendly. The soba here is actually just a bit thicker than most other places I’ve had soba, which I like because it makes the noodles feel more substantial. The portions are good and come in beautifully unique bowls. The drinks are very agreeable. I liked the flavors in the ice cream, but my portion was very icy. Not sure if that was intentional, since it kind of became an ice cream/granita hybrid. In any case, I still liked it overall.
Food 5 | Atmosphere 5 | Service 5 Made a counter resy, made it on time, no counter seat avail, waited a bit, got a dining room table, turned out OK too. Food was amazingly fresh and delicious. Presentation is 👍🏼. No complaints. Just praise. I checked out the back area, looks like they make their own clam shell serving dishes and chopstick holders - kinda cool to see the process.
Unique restaurant/studio concept. Lovely owner and servers. While I have immense appreciation for the craft of soba making and the clear attention to detail in preparation, it did not live up to the expectation. We tried a few starters, the premium sashimi and duck soba - all somehow lacked depth and flavor. Not bad but not amazing either to warrant another visit.
Important to note that this place opens at 12pm on weekdays!! Not 11:30am as on Google Maps or 11:45am as on their storefront. We ended up waiting half an hour, so they gave us a tofu dish as thanks for waiting. Initially they included this in the final bill. Only when we pointed it out after we paid, we were refunded and paid a second time with a discount. We realized after we left that this meant we had to pay tax and tip for this dish that we never ordered. Tip is one thing but not sure where the tax for that is going. We also received the wrong appetizer even after they came back to our table to double check our order. We ended up just accepting what they gave us because we didn’t want to cause a hassle, but this also raked up the price that we were originally planning the meal to be—and caused some disappointment since I couldn’t get the dish I wanted. As for the food, the tofu dish was unique and tasty; the salmon in the salmon ikura soba was very fresh. But I don’t think either is worth the price point. The salad soba I had when I first came here was very memorable, but the price rose quite a bit from the already high price point a year ago, such that now it’s pretty exorbitant. As a soba lover, I’d say get your traditional soba elsewhere. The entrees worth trying here are the unique ones, namely the salad soba which actually tastes better than the salmon ikura bowl. Otherwise, the atmosphere is great. I love the interior and the ceramics are beautiful. My impression of the place overall dropped from when I first visited, though. The place is also basically empty during weekdays lunch, which explains why they don’t follow the earlier open time.
Uzuki is in a really cool space with a lot of nice ceramics being displayed throughout the restaurant. The apps were really good especially the soba tofu. But I didn’t like their soba noodles at all. They were beautifully presented but the noodles broke easily and had no chew at all. They were also ridiculously expensive for what it is. The curry soba was so spicy I was shocked. The combination of spices also just made me cough a lot. It didn’t take like a Japanese curry to me. The desserts were good as well. But it was so disappointing that the mains were not good at all in my opinions.
I LOVE the space, so I was really sad when my soba noodles came overcooked and the togarashi seasoning was way too overpowering for my taste. They also didn’t ask about allergies. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing—I’d be curious to try their cold soba—but $77 for a bowl of soba and soba crackers still feels pretty steep. The ceramic pieces, though, were absolutely gorgeous. sous.
Our second time here, but the lunch experience was disappointing. Atmosphere is nice, front of house was nice and polite, food ingredients were good quality BUT There was a failure in communication or kitchen priorities, our order took 45 mins for the first bowl to arrive for the cold salmon soba, and almost an hour for the duck soba. We arrived around 11.50pm, didn't get food until 1.05pm. we were starving. We painfully watched the kitchen be more focused and concerned with dinner service prep (blanching spinach for 30 mins, prep quarts, beging to skin salmon for sashimi) than cooking. The final straw was when guests who came in almost 40 mins after us got served their appetizer first. There was no haste, follow up, or urgency until we raised the issue with the front of house. By the time front of house offered to bring us something, it was already 45 mins. Our orders should've been checked earlier and the gesture should've been offered earlier. It was too late, looking at the organization and lack of urgency in the kitchen, had we said yes we would've had to wait another hour just for the soba. It was so disheartening to desperately want to leave, and we offered to cancel our order. While we were told it's on the way, you can see they barely started making our orders. We didn't get our food at the same time, one of us was late for their appointment and had to leave before the other soba arrived. We don't live nearby, and we intentionally went out of the way to visit Uzuki, it was my suggestion to my guest given the story, the pottery the space, so it made the whole experience even more disappointing. The duck soba (hot) was not worth the wait for price given the poor kitchen attention, the meat slices were still cold in the center from the fridge, while the bowl was barely warm, we were so rushed eating it you couldn't enjoy the food, the soba, or the atmosphere. We saw them throw ingredients in together quickly, missing some, being reminded by the front of house, it makes us worry if we actually got what we paid for. We had to scarf it down in 10 mins, my guest didn't even have time to finish their soba because it was almost taking up our whole lunch break and afternoon. The space is calming and meant to be mindful and slow for guests, but when the staff are more relaxed than the guests, lunch service is actually only used for dinner prep and not for business and serving customers, it's time to leave. I've been here and know the potential and how good the food quality can be, but at over $50 for a bowl of handmade noodles, it's such a shame for all the hardwork that was intended, the kitchen and service did not meet the standards the price point commanded.
for a place that charges $40 a bowl for soba (not even great soba it’s mid at best) i expected at least to check in on your customers from time to time, but no they don’t value us all the same, no eye contact no water refill no one even brought the check? had to walk up to hostess to pay. honestly now i think about it i shouldn’t have left any tip.
I very rarely, almost never leave bad reviews. In fact even when I have bad experiences, I actively avoid leaving bad reviews. But I was really looking forward to dining at Uzuki for my wedding anniversary. My husband made a reservation here as a surprise because I love soba and pottery. I will start by saying the food was good and our primary waitress was fantastic. My husband made a reservation for 8:30 pm on Friday the 12th for our anniversary. We arrived 10-15 minutes EARLY for the reservation and still had to wait nearly 40 minutes PAST our reservation time for a table. When we arrived, it was clear the host was not prepared at all for our reservation. He seemed surprised to see us. We made the reservation specifically for a table, but were offered bar seats. We did not want bar seats for our wedding anniversary, we wanted the table we reserved, so we politely declined and said we would wait. We were also offered the display table that is in a dark corner by the door bringing in cold winter air, far away from the restaurant. Again, this is not a real table. They didn't seat anyone there and this was not the table we reserved. It took until 9:08 for us to be seated - again, despite a reservation for 8:30. We were determined to have a nice time regardless. We ordered and ate in a very timely manner as we were already seated so late. When it came time to ask for dessert, our secondary waitress who cleaned up our plates told us the kitchen was closing. If we were seated at our actual reservation time, we would have had plenty of time to order dessert without being concerned about the kitchen closing. This also didn't make sense because they take reservations for 9:00 pm... In fact my husband actually moved up the reservation from 9pm to 8:30 earlier in the week (he dId NOT change the reservation the same day). Why would they take reservations for 9pm or seat people at 9 if they are not prepared to serve them prior to the kitchen closing? We were ultimately able to order dessert but it was weird that she made that comment and made us feel bad for wanting to have a full dining experience. We were not offered the dessert menu and had to ask for it more than once. It seemed like there was some sort of private event taking place, and perhaps that was a factor in our experience, but I would expect a restaurant of this caliber and price range to be prepared for that. I just can't excuse mishaps like this from a restaurant of this level. The private event was disruptive and loud as well, but im not going to hold that against Uzuki because the rest of my experience speaks for itself. Needless to say, if they hadn't offered us a fake table and treated us like walkins instead of people with a reservation on top of trying to deny us dessert, I would have excused the delay in seating us. I have NEVER disrespected workers and we were not rude at all to the host or staff. We were very appreciative and polite as we just wanted to have a nice anniversary dinner and enjoy ourselves. We were very willing to forgive the delay but honestly the dessert comment was the nail in the coffin that ruined our night. We felt disrespected throughout and that comment ensured we could not forget the mishap and had to end our night on a sour note. The food and drinks were good. The soba noodles themselves were not very impressive. No chew and they crumbled.
