Celebrated my daughter’s birthday here. The tatami table was well worth the reservation. Xavier treated us like royalty and made my daughter feel extra special. The food is impeccable, atmosphere is welcoming and right in the heart of IC which is always a pleasure to visit. We come often when in the area, delicious! Thank you!
Love this place, come here often with the family: great food, great service, and nice ambiance for a relaxed family meal with kids. All staff members are extremely friendly: Xavier is extra fun and always has spot-on recommendations for the newest specials, both food and drinks. Highly recommended!
This place is our go to spot for family dinner night. Xavier is such a wonderful server who has been treating us like family for years. My little one, who is normally so shy, always lights up when she sees him. They had a floor manager who was there for years who was always so kind, incredibly considerate and welcoming. The food is wonderful, but the service really shines, they’ve been doing a lot of staffing changes recently so hopefully the quality of service remains
PSA from someone who was born and raised in Tokyo: yakitori (grilled meat / veg skewers) and kushikatsu (deep fried meat / veg skewers) are traditionally the size of, well, a skewer. seeing the comments, I’m not sure what everyone is expecting- but the serving size was true to any izakaya in Tokyo offering yakitori, to me. and it was so fresh! I loved everything I ordered- really well made. I especially recommend the scallop wrapped in bacon; the tsukune (meatball) - made of ground chicken and scallions; and the thigh and scallion skewer; and the sasami (chicken breast with pickled plum). Though my favorite skewer is always the shishito pepper which was perfectly cooked as well. Service is excellent- and the drinks come courtesy of the bar next door (Oldies). the traditional highball (whiskey and soda) was nice and strong. I enjoyed my time there very much. My kind thanks to Nick, and everyone else! I’ll be back for sure 💝
This was such an experience. We sat at the bar and it was so intimate and the food was DELICIOUS!!! We had teriyaki chicken and salmon. (Omg so good bro). We also had the Takowasa, it was amazingly tasty. I recommend coming here, and if you want drinks, I suggest getting the izakaya penicillin. It has a smooth taste with flavors of lemon and ginger. It’s refreshing and is a great palate cleanser. This place deserves all the love that it brings with food. Thank you and please take this recommendation and enjoy the food, made with care. 🫶🏽
Very authentic Japanese skewers/food, although the portion seems a bit small, the beef, chicken wings and pork belly are all very juicy and tasty. First time trying the fried corn which was very chewy and crunchy. The place itself is well decorated with a bar and regular tables, in Japanese style. The waiters were very polite and well mannered.
I love this place!! I am not sure why the ratings are a little low but everything is really tasty! The food here was on small plates but they were YUMMY! Sashimi was fresh, fried chickens were juicy and steamy, and the short rib special was tender and delicious. Our server was very friendly as well. We also had happy hour beer which was only 6$ for draft. Great deal! We will come back.
Absolutely amazing in every way! The service was wonderful and fast, the food was amazing, and so were the prices! I'm not a rich man but for the first time I ordered 9 things off the menu (10 if you include a drink) and I wasn't concerned about the bill! Absolutely everything was delicious and I highly recommend the skewers! Because the price is so reasonable, I was willing to try stuff I've never had and had always been to scared to try before. I tried the beef tongue, pork belly, chicken heart and chicken liver skewers, and they were all so yummy! We also got the wagyu and shrimp skewers which were delicious. The geso karaage and harumaki were also great, but my favorite of everything was easily the gyu maki, it was amazing! Side note: my boyfriend got one of their draft beers and I have always thought beer tasted super gross but this one was actually really delicious and I honestly should have ordered it for myself!
My wife and I were looking for a quieter restaurant to eat at as the Japan Village was a little too crowded for us, and this place was a nice respite. The skewers were all really good, but we loved the duck one the most. The pork & scallion and chicken thigh & scallion were also highlights. The beef and pork belly were okay. My wife loved her soba, and also got the deep fried beef skewer. All in all a nice stop for food, and relatively reasonably priced!
The food here was delicious! I especially loved the corn tempura. It was my first time trying chicken gizzard and cartilage. It was good but the portions were small. They also have a small flavor variety of cotton candy that they can make there! My cousin (pre-k and elementary) really enjoyed it. The menu was online but, i didn't have much service inside so, i wasn't able load it.
Great for groups. Got seated in one of their tatami rooms with lots of space. Ordered a variety of their menu with dishes arriving as they were done. Ordered everything via their app and added additional food as the meal progressed. Will need to factor in time for additional orders or they may arrive when you are too full or very hungry.
The food is just ordinary I would say. It was our first time here. Better food served just outside on the food court. Service was excellent, prices little on higher side. But they have nice bar on the side. Great place to have a date. Also they have those Japanese rooms, but it should be reserved in advance and I believe they cost fee.
I’ve been to Wakuwaku a few times and always loved the food, so I brought friends for the first time—but the service was terrible. Our Hispanic server (never introduced himself) was rude, snatched menus from our hands, and refused to accommodate a shrimp allergy with a simple substitution. He ignored us most of the night, took away our plates even though we were sharing food, and didn’t seem to know how to use the card machine. The place was clearly understaffed, and the table next to us waited 20+ minutes just to pay. Great food, but the service completely ruined the experience.
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share this experience because I’ve been a loyal customer of Waku Waku for years. I’ve always had a great impression of their food and service and have continued to come back regularly, even on occasions when something wasn’t quite as good as usual. Today, on New Year’s Day, I came with my family and ordered the tempura don that I normally get. Unfortunately, the rice was noticeably hard and the tempura batter lacked flavor, which really surprised me given my past experiences here. I mentioned this politely - not to ask for a refund or anything free, but simply as feedback so they could be aware. The response I received from the manager was extremely disappointing. I was told that they didn’t know why I thought the rice was hard, that no one else had complained, and was even told I could go check the rice cooker myself. That kind of dismissive response was far more upsetting than the food issue itself. Constructive feedback from a long-time customer should be acknowledged, not brushed off. I truly hope this was an off day, because I’ve always enjoyed this place. However, how feedback is handled matters just as much as food quality, and this experience left me disappointed.
If you love insanely sticky salt shakers and basically that oh so un-authentic Japanese experience of everything feeling like it needs a wipe down then this is the place for you. Short version - over priced soggy small portion and they need to wipe everything down and change the oil in the fryers its the first thing you smell when you enter. Bathrooms were clean ! Service was Great, but everything is STICKY If you think I’m harsh in this review then don’t read my Kansai born and raised wife’s review. I get it I’m in BK not Osaka ( go Tigers) or Tokyo ( F the Giants) , but the food is better and cheaper in the attached food court at Japan Village. I got the chicken Katsu and garlic fried potato’s the fries were $8 and there were 5 wedges, meaning I paid $1.60 per French Fry see attached pics. My wife's noodles were not hot and the portion was tiny for $18, my Katsu maybe was made to order but it was soggy. If there's one thing I know from Japanese restaurants both here and in Japan, its cleanliness, and crispy crunchy things should't be soggy. But I can't blame a place for capitalizing on the "Japan Village " novelty and hiking the price. Do yourself a favor and wait in line with all the Anime and Cosplay kids in th food court, yeah the counters are still sticky but you'll pay half the price and your crunchy food will be crunchy !!
I had a sub par experience at this restaurant today. I have visited this restaurant many times before. First, food is mediocre except yakitori. For example below sashimi appetizer is $24. 2 pcs of tiny frozen octopus, salmon, tuna and sea brim. They were fishy. What’s worse is that all the main dishes came separately. By the time my family finished their meal my food finally came and by this point I lost my appetite. My food came about 20 minutes later. In terms of service, waitstaff is accommodating. However, the restaurant is just run inefficiently. I don’t think I will return.
