Hello world, this was my first time here and this place was amazing. The music, the atmosphere, the staff and the food was awesome.
So much food and it was very tasty and the Portions was well worth the cost. The service was fast and Is polite. The experience was grate.
We love this place!! My husband and I come here for breakfast every Sunday and we have never been disappointed. The food/quality is great, portions are big, clean and pretty restaurant, staff is super friendly, service is quick and with a smile. Even the coffee is good!!! Parking is easy, street parking on the road, which is free on Sundays, or there is a free lot a couple blocks down.
It was my first time dining at Kostas and it won't be my last. Our dinner party consisted of 4 and we opted to eat inside instead of the patio. Once we were Inside the hostess greeted us and asked if we'd like a booth or table. We decided the table would be best and we're seated right away. The air conditioning was set for the right temperature and the inside is clean and well decorated. The waitress did not make us wait and we immediately put in our orders. We starred with the appetizer and drinks. The hummus and warm pita were delicious. Homemade hummus for sure. I ordered a blody Mary which tasted refreshing and had just the right amount of kick to it. The three of us ordered the chicken slavaki and one guest ordered the mediterian chicken All 4 plates were heaped full of food and we all had plenty to take with us. The chicken was moist delicious and the Greek potatoes were served in a large bowl. I know I will be getting cravings for these potatoes and I'll have to come back for more! Were were all stuffed to the max but I did order some baklava to bring home. Needless to say I was happy I did because these are your Grandma's baklava. Flaky phylo stacked up high with the roasted nut mixture served with honey on the side. It was a Friday evening when we visited Kostas and it was extremely busy but we did not have a long wait. Our server was friendly helpful and took good care of us. Thank you Kostas we'll be back
A great Greek experience in Buffalo! The lamb and chicken gyros were fantastic, and the baklava makes for a wonderful sweet finish. Seating and service was fast and friendly despite it being pretty crowded on a weekend afternoon. Can’t recommend them enough if you want some top-quality gyros.
Oh. My. Gosh. Can we give 6 stars??? The food was FABULOUS! And the portions huge! The service impeccable. If you go away hungry or unhappy, it’s absolutely you, not them. Lol. I had Souvlaki beef and rice with salad and pita. I only ate about half. It was huge, but oh sooooo good (I enjoyed my breakfast immensely the next day!) Husband had beef and lamb gyro and all the fixins’. It was also delicious. We had cheesecake to go and loved that as well next evening. Can I just say, the tzatziki sauce was like none I’d ever had and was amazing. Eat here as soon as you can! We actually met and thanked the owner on our way out. He was great and runs a wonderful family place. 41 years of practice- he and his crew have it down! 6 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice friendly restaurant with plenty of good dishes. You get a nice portion of food for the price. I love the baked spaghetti parm.
Awesome service. Very attentive and fast. The food was delicious and a great experience for my boys to try real Greek food.
My cousin Gabe Michael and I have shared countless meals at Kostas Family Restaurant, a place he adored. I believe I've sampled every item on their menu, often indulging in a strawberry shake. The souvlaki and gyro stand out as favorites, but even a simple grilled cheese can be deeply satisfying. My experiences at Kostas are filled with joyful memories with family and friends. Over the years, the restaurant has evolved and improved, yet the exceptional staff and consistent quality remain central to its enduring success, making it a cherished venue for many wonderful moments. Kostas Family Restaurant, located at 1561 Hertel Avenue in Buffalo, NY, is well-regarded for its Greek and American cuisine. It's praised for its authentic dishes and excellent service. The restaurant is known for its great breakfast and classic atmosphere. They offer take-out options, with favorites like Greek salad and orange juice. It's open every day, with operating hours from 7 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 9 PM on Sundays.
The food is phenomenal the first picture is chicken parm and then with a Greek salad and a pita and then today when I went I got the fettuccine alfredo but I got it with broccoli and garlic when chicken amazing and the waitresses are so sweet, and fast with great service
Great food at a great price. Even though we were only there for brunch. the food and service were amazing. If you are in town for a few days, I would highly recommend it. The "breakast pair" is a favorate as well as the "eggs and lox." They have vegan alternatives such as the beet salad, which was also very good.
First time patron. Suggested by my daughter. Wonderful food atmospherie and service. Parking leaves a lot to be desired.
This is one of my favorite go-to spots. I always end up staying awhile because the people-watching is great, and their mimosas always hit the spot.
Excellent service. Nice atmosphere but can get loud if very busy. Outdoor the seating. Perfect size menu with all day breakfast.
If I could give the restaurant 10 stars I would . I visited for the first time on my birthday . The 15min wait was more like 5mins . The food was delicious , the portions were plentiful , the atmosphere was inviting and temperature comfortable , the restaurant was very clean and the servers were all polite and helpful . I will definitely be back again . Thank you Kostas :)
The Moussaka was delicious! And we had the kindest Server ever! Can't say enough good things about our experience.
Went to Kostas on a Sunday morning and lucked out - no wait and seated right away. The early bird definitely gets the worm here! This is a classic Greek diner with all the traditional breakfast staples you’d expect, plus some Greek favorites that never disappoint. My eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was nice and crispy, and the coffee kept flowing with quick refills. It’s a warm, welcoming spot that’s great for sharing a meal with family or friends. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and consistently good food.
Kostas is my go to place when I don’t feel like cooking and want something healthy. Their chicken souvlaki salad hits every time and the portion is big enough for me to have leftovers the next day. Their herb and oil dressing is incredible; earthy, zesty, and full of flavor. My go to appetizers are the tirokafteri and calamari. I’ll usually do pick up and the order is always ready for pick up in 10 minutes. Quick, healthy, and delicious.
The Best Rack of Lamb ! Maybe in all of Buffalo ! ! Approach Always Consistent ! Service is First ! Family business for 2 generations ☺️🙏
Very glad my husband brought me and the kids here instead of watching the Bills last sunday, though the service might be slow, it's well worth it for the time spent together and for the souvlaki breakfast special. It's valuable time spent with the kids now that my husband Tom is spending more time working keeping his new auto-parts business afloat.
My boyfriend has taken me for both breakfast and dinner service. Both were delicious. We made a little tradition of sharing a meal out on the patio when visiting the area. The music is comfortably romantic and the meals are always delicious. You may need to wait a bit for a free table on a Sunday morning, better to make a reservation if you have a problem with that. Would highly recommend the baklava as well as the breakfast potatoes! 😋
We both had gyros (one beef/lamb, one chicken) and fries. It was a short wait during the lunch crush but fast service as soon as a table was available. Great food, reasonable price, wonderful styling throughout the restaurant (including bathroom) and a good experience overall. Fries were especially good though I can’t put my finger on their secret.
so so so so so good. perfect lunch spot. atmosphere is like, upscale diner if that makes any sense? nonetheless, the food is fantastic and the staff is super attentive
We were hungry after visiting the zoo and found this gem close to the area. So glad we did! It was the highlight of our Buffalo arrival. We were greeted by nice and friendly hostesses, that took us to our table and then got a nice, friendly and attentive server (Michael) whom made our meal more enjoyable. He checked on us regularly and was helpful with any menu questions we had. The restaurant is super busy and gets crowded, but the food and service made the wait worthwhile. We had the Souvlaki Breakfast with Chicken and Stuffed Pita (added chicken) with fries and both were delish! The chicken was seasoned nicely and it was super moist and tasty! The pita was loaded with feta cheese and it made it so good! Coffee tasted good as well. Thank you for an a great tasting meal and great service!
Just bought a steak souvlaki and a chicken souvlaki. Both were excellent, lots of tasty beef and chicken. Worth the money. Enough for 2 meals. We did take out.
Kostas is a fantastic Greek restaurant on the business block on Hertel. The restaurant is quite modern with a bright and open feel. There is a good selection of fish to choose from, and you get the typical option of having it deep fried (our preference) or grilled. However, we our favorite part of the menu are the breakfast items. Their gyro + egg + feta breakfast items are delicious, especially when accompanied by the seasoned potatoes. Parking is the only problem with visiting Kostas, so during the busy times, we just order the food to-go.
We stopped here to eat brunch on our way to Niagara Falls and omg our food was so delicious. They gave us alot of food to eat and the service was great. You never really have leftovers for breakfast but this place makes sure you do. I recommend the French toast😋... nice and crispy👌🏾👍🏾!
During our visit from Canada, our friends were gracious enough to take us to a delightful restaurant. The server mentioned an automatic 20% gratuity for parties of five or more. I felt that the food and service merited a greater gratuity. It was a wonderful experience!
Had a wonderful, leisurely lunch with friends on multiple occasions! I'm obsessed with their dressing, and the chicken souvlaki.
Panos will always be my favorite place. The relationships, bonds, and memories created over the years, will never be duplicated. It was special. Now I go to other places, and one of my usual spots is Kostas. I usually order the broiled haddock in lemon- garlic sauce, chicken finger salad or sandwich. Can't go wrong. This time I ordered Horta, steamed daisies, good, very good 👍🏾
I’m new to Kostas, but my bf’s parents love it there. I understand why now! I’m on my second trip there for the souvlaki breakfast with lamb chops. The Greek dressing on the potatoes makes the whole thing decadent. Turn it into a dinner with a veggie and salad and you can’t lose! We sat on the patio which was so nice. It’s my new favorite hands down.
My wife and i stopped by for dinner, we were seated immediately. Our waitress was fantastic! Our Gyrodilla Appetizer came out very fast and was out of this world! We had spanakopita and a Monte Cristo. They were just about perfect and tasted great. We were in and out in no time at all. Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert. would highly recommend
What a great dining experience! The homemade chicken salad-so delicious! Husband had chicken Souvlaki, also fantastic. And there was Kosta, greeting guests with a big smile, just like back in the 1970's! Clean restaurant, stellar food and selection, great prices. Wonderful restaurant!
Really gotta love the place, even busy on a Sunday morning. The staff and food NEVER disappoints. Belgian waffle is so good with a cup of hot tea.
Family is the focus of this place. Warm greetings when you come in and ppl you recognize when you sit down. I was with my daughter and son for breakfast as they sad as you noticed it would be coming busy. Waiter came with menus and coffee. Service was quick and timely. I ordered the southwestern burrito with pepper jack cheese. It came out delicious. That plate comes by the side potatoes and toast. I got the rye. My son had the two eggs over easy and he said it was delicious. My daughter had the same thing I did. The portions were large enough that we could take home. As we looked up, we saw family members come in sat down and enjoyed breakfast alongside. It was a delightful experience. Can't wait to get back.
The food here is so good that it really has me on Google writing a review. This is the best spot in Buffalo for a Chicken Souvlaki breakfast. Always consistent and always fast/great service.
Kostas Restaurant is a family owned restaurant on Hertle in Buffalo. Many people have a tradition of eating here after church or other certain occasions. It is the type of place where you know the staff who work here and they know you. The dining area is not large but has a spacious feel. Table placement allows for.quiet conversations. On either side of the entrance are tables in a glass sun room that give a great view of Hertle Ave. I have eaten here with my family on many occasions, mostly for breakfast or brunch. Having said that, we have also ordered take out for family events On this occassion there were 3 couples eating brunch on the day after Thanksgiving. Four of us were from out of state back home visiting. It was good to have a leisurely pace to visit and eat. Our service was excellent. Drinks refilled and often asking if we needed anything. The food was awesome. I enjoyed a very large bacon and cheddar omelite with homefries. Cooked perfectly. The coffee was good and the fresh squeezed orange juice smooth. Rason toast was good as well. Two of the women enjoyed salads. One was the beet salad and another the souvlaki salad. Both were very large and enjoyed. Two others has the Souvlali breakfast which was delicious. A very enjoyable meal. Fair pricing l. Comfortable seating and no rush to finish. What more can you ask for.
I cannot sing the praises of this place too much! My wife ordered the Serf & Turf Salad, grilled gulf shrimp, 8oz NY strip steak seared to a "Blue" perfection, fresh mixed greens, portobello mushroom, feta, roasted red pepper $27. I had the Caesar Salad with Chicken. I was astounded a breast and a half of grilled Chicken on top a mound of romaine lettuce, slathered in Caesar dressing & copious amounts of Parmesan cheese. The server went out of her way to check if the dressing on my wife's salad contained an ingredient. She also checked back actually pausing, rather than just as she walked by to see if we needed anything. I took a picture of my $15 salad. Thank you to the owners who must care more about their staff and the customers. Wanting you to return for all the right reasons! Zoom in on the picture, the chicken was fantastic!
My boyfriend introduced me to this staple in Buffalo back in 2024 because I love lamb chops. Now every time I’m in the area I have to come here to get the Rosemary Lamb Chops. We weren’t sure if it was open in July 4th and when Jenna answered the phone we were relieved. Our meal didn’t disappoint. I ordered the lamb chop dinner with rice pilaf and zucchini and squash. My boyfriend had the potatoes, lamb chops, eggs and toast. The lamb was juicy and tender. We left full and satisfied. We can’t wait to visit again soon. I would highly recommend for a great meal anytime of the day.
This restaurant has been on my list for a while to try and it definitely lives up to all expectations. The restaurant itself has a wonderful atmosphere, and the staff were all very kind. The menu was extensive, and had many options to try for everyone. The food we ordered was delicious. Their fries are to die for. Their pickles were also delicious, and a good pickle says a lot about a restaurant!
I ordered take out from two places, and created my own Greek/Cantonese cuisine. The Singapore Mei Fun comes from a small, dingy looking place called Panda on Niagara St.. Don't let the outside fool you. They have the freshest tasting, "chinese" fast food in the city. They actually listen when you request a specific spice level. Mine is always extra hot...and it is. Filled with flavor, shrimp, pork, and chicken. The salmon, salad, veggies, and pita came from Kostas. Simply fantastic. The salmon was perfectly seared on the outside, and moist/flaky on the inside. With size, cook, and price, it exceeds expectations on days you don't want to cook. Since I was mixing with rice noodles, I was able to omit the starch and get double squash/zucchini blend. It also came with soup or salad. We picked the salad. They did not skimp on fresh greens, onions tomato, peppers. Feta and bursting with herb dressing, and a highly grilled potato. I usually hate eating off of paper plates, but this was so good that it didn't matter.
Terrific breakfast place, generous portions made with good quality ingredients. No boxed eggs here. Service was prompt, efficient and cheerful. Restaurant was busy for a weekday, I imagine it must be pretty busy on the weekends! I would like to return for a dinner some time, the dinner menu looked good and based on the breakfast would also be top notch ingredients. Street parking available and in a nice neighbourhood.
I grew up in NYC but have lived in rural PA for most of my adult life. I have not had Greek food this good in forever! We were on the way back from Niagara Falls and decided to stop to eat. We were seated immediately, our server was friendly and observant, the food came out so quickly! I was just amazed, and I wish I lived closer to go more often. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

Great local spot! Family owned. Yummy breakfast, had the ham and feta omelette, coffee sourdough toast.
you need to go here! prices aren’t crazy, foods amazing, and staff is great! (Make sure to save room for dessert!!)
The best "scrambled" eggs I've ever had at a restaurant! No brown, moist, soft and buttery! My issue was the pancakes, who ever made them 🤦♀️ cooked them too early, then left them in the window too long one of them was HARD, couldn't eat it! And it also had onions on it, come on now! They're supposed to be cooked on different parts of the flat top my dude/dudette! The lamb is amazingly tender and beautifully cooked, it just needs more flavor. The breakfast potatoes could also use seasoning and care. The mimosas are a perfect size!

Arrived at the restaurant for brunch with my family. Word of advise for parents with stroller there is no ramp you have to carry it up the stairs and down. On arrival the waiter was polite and guided us to our table of our choice. We placed our order and food arrived promptly within 10mins! Food was of a good portion size and tasteful. We left the restaurant as we started carrying the stroller down the stairs no help from the front desk staff. Food was great facility no good.
I went to this place often prior to retirement and thoroughly enjoyed the Greek salads. I went here for breakfast with some friends and decided to order the Saganaki. I had a long conversation with the server about cheese options and decided to get the Saganaki cheese that came with the eggs. When I got the bill, I was charged and extra $1.50. When I questioned the server, she said there was an upcharge for the "special" cheese. I told her I just got the cheese that came with the eggs. She just smiled and walked away. Pretty sad they nickel and dime you for something that was mentioned in the menu as "Saganaki Breakfast".
Freezing cold bathrooms. Freezing. It’s unreasonable this still isn’t corrected after years. It’s been since the remodel. Baklava has ONE layer of nuts. Will not bother its chewy phyllo dough with no flavor. In the 90s it was three layers of nuts after covid two- now it’s not even worth getting with a thin layer at the bottom- Baklava a layer pastry with phyllo and NUTS. Not honey soaked chewy phyllo. The spanakopita once savory, crisp and delicious now a sad soggy flavorless mess of spinach and phyllo. The Souvlaki beef was undercooked ordered medium order a bright pink with red center. The chicken souvlaki chicken usually plentiful, was lacking and replaced with a plethora of tomatoes. The gyro was sufficient. Of course he’s the least likely to comment. Hummus was excellent as per usual. Regular customer since the 80’s we were on a long wait at another restaurant and said Let’s just go to Kostas - it’s fast and consistent- this was not the case this visit. And thank you for the mandatory 18% tip on a party of 5 - a family to be specific- it actually saved us money as we never tip under 20% usually 25% at your establishment.
I have been eating here for about 50 years always an enjoyable experience. Haven’t eaten here in about a year aa was really looking for to my chicken Slovakia takeout. It was average at best dressing tasted like they gave me the bottom of the bottle. Chicken wasn’t the same. I was disappointed still good, but nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Food was good, especially the breakfast I got. However, my friend noticed a curly black hair in her food the moment she got it. Both of us have straight hair, I’m a red-head and she’s blonde. We pointed it out to the server, she barely had remorse. It wasn’t taken off the bill. I thought that was weird since I am also a restaurant worker, and that would’ve been immediately taken off the bill. When we told (who I’m assuming is) the manager up front when we went to pay, she also seemed like she didn’t care and just said “oh I’m sorry”. Like some cooks hair was in my food. Gross.
You fired my favorite person and I don’t see why as she was the reason I went there and she always brought a smile to my face. Everything sucks but her.
On October 4, 2025, I ordered a shrimp Slovakia salad and started eating it. The shrimp had an unusual mildew-like smell, not a seafood smell. I experienced diarrhea and felt unwell. I’m leaving this review because I saw the $32 charge on my statement today, which is unacceptable that salad shouldn’t never had went out like that very dangerous and I have no reason to lie I always buy the same exact thing every time I come to Kostas.
So Kostas is one of my favorite restaurants in Buffalo. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. As an adult, I eat here 2-3 times a month whether it’s dine in or takeout. The last 2 times I ordered take out, it has born horrible and I have been unable to eat the meals. I will add pics of a rotted salad they gave me, as well as an undercooked order of spaghetti. You cannot tell it’s undercooked by the pics, but after 2 bites I threw it in the garbage. Such a waste of my hard earned money.
