Used to be the center of Christendom. Mostly ruins, but still lots there to see. Amazing digital recreations of the Abbey. Never really understood that until the 1400's this was the largest cathedral in Christendom - much bigger than St. Peters of that day. A combination of religious politics and the reformation in France changed all that. Much of the Abbaye was destroyed during the reformation. The digital exhibit expertly guides you through the transformation of the Abbaye over time.

This is an amazing romanesque remnant, all that is left of one of the largest churches in Europe. Now most of it is a college but the museum takes you into the surviving chapels and transcept below the two towers. Also the mill. There are some excellent digital recreations of the comple of buildings before the French revolution. Well worth the 11 euros entrance fee.

Layers of history are on display, with excellent 3D displays showing past-to-present contrasts and changes. Look out for the freestanding screens placed around; move and touch them to see the hidden layers. It's cool even on a very hot day, so it offers a break from the summer heat.

We visited with group. I overheard our group head talked to receptionist and found that we can come for free (I think there is certain condition people who can come for free). So please check before you buy a ticket. The monastery is huge. Located in old town. For renting audio, it costs €3 If you have single jack for earphone, bring it! It’s easier to hear the audio and you don’t need to hold the audio like you are in the middle of calling someone :)) Unfortunately in many area there is no information at all.

Absolutely stunning, the largest and most powerful monastery of the Middle Ages. Begun before the year one thousand, and with a cathedral which at its height was 180 meters long with a vault supported by 1200 columns - very impressive dimensions!

This beautiful little town has a lot to offer if you're cruising through the back roads of Burgundy, and the Abbey is a spectacular way to spend the day if you enjoy history and ancient buildings. Besides the ruins and restorations, there are 3D films and models to dazzle you. Don't skimp on adding the Tour des Fromages toi your visit (spoiler alert - it's nothing to do with cheese). Don't be put off by the declaration of how many steps there are to climb, the view is worth it.

Going there was not super planned for us on our holidays. But it absolutely was worth it! The place is spectacular. Super big with nice explanations and visuals on how it looked once it was build. We were really in the atmosphere of medieval period !

Such a great museum for one of the most important and iconic places of the Middleages. Really kind lady at the ticket office/bookshop, sadly the ancient complex of Cluny doesn't almost exist anymore but the remains are nicely hosted here. A visit to remember!

A beautiful mix of the old and new! They have many exhibits that use technology to illustrate exactly how the abbey used to look hundreds of years ago. Get a tour if you can for more information, but not necessary. Parking is just along the street. I believe 25 and under is free admission too 😎

Fascinating history. Mostly destroyed after the revolution. Surviving buildings have been restored. Various models of what the abbey used to look like. The town around the abbey has ruins of it. Pair of palaces. One now a town hall the other a museum.

Driving between Lyon and Beaune, we stopped at Cluny to see the Abby and it became a pleasant mistake as we walked through the town to get to the Abbey. The information center and the Abby are well …

Aunque la Revolución francesa, destruyó parte del Monasterio y la segunda guerra mundial también destruyó parte, el conjunto monumental se mantiene en relativo buen estado. La historia no la pueden borrar las Guerras.

Es curioso de ver y descubrir su historia, aunque tras la Revolución Francesa, quedó arrasada y hay más piedra de la abadía puesta en los muros de las casas del pueblo que en la misma Abadía.

Casi destruido pero es un lugar que merece conocer. Es una excursión preciosa. En la misma plaza hay una terraza donde se come muy bien y a buen precio. El queso fresco a la crema. Lo hacen estupendo.

No waiting for entrance. Great architectures with a history. It was well maintained. The whole village was picturesque and worth visiting.

There was a 17 minute film on inside about the abbey but was all in French and because of covid we couldn't use the audio devices usually given to tourists. They should've put subtitles on. Directions throughout the abbey could've been more obvious as we had to backtrack to get back to the entrance. It was great seeing the entire history of the abbey and sad to see how much of it got destroyed. Definitely worth a visit.

Bonito paseo entre piedras pero que no consigue meter al visitante en la época del monasterio, 11 excesivos euros para una pobre visita.

El pueblo es ideal para pasear y comer en uno de los múltiples restaurantes. La Abadía, visita histórica

Grandiosa abadía de la que se conserva parte de ella, tubo una gran importancia desde su construcción en el siglo X, aunque solo se conservan dos torres, pero está bien diseñada la visita con muestras y vídeos explicativos de su evolución en 3D. Su dominio fue muy amplio de ahi su importancia. I n cuanto a los horarios pone unos y después resulta que el museo lo cierran al medio día y nos quedamos sin verlo. Lo mismo con la capilla de los monjes, que no está abierta hasta abril y no informan nada en la web, poco queda del edificio románico y creo que debería facilitarse el acceso durante todo ello año. Esperaba más de la vista al monumento, la ciudad bonita y medieval, y adornada en fiestas.

To be honest, a bit disappointing. Only a very small part of the abbey is available to be seen, as all the rest as been destroyed. Still, there you can imagine how impressive it could be. To bad the 3D movie is only in french.... Worth the visit anyway

It is unfortunate that a majority of the place was dismantled and sold off. The place is in a constant state of renovation. There was a nice film explaining the history and the audio guide helped walk us through what was left on the place. Stepping outside and seeing where the footings are represented on the ground shows the shadow of the size of the Abby at one time. So little is left that I don’t know if the money to learn about it is worth it.

Visited the abbey on a quiet Monday as individuals. (Easy public parking nearby.) I found this a unique experience and quite a contrast to Benedictine monasteries in Spain. How fortunate it is that …

Decepcionante. Restos históricos muy escasos. Actualmente en el lugar se ubica un centro de estudios aprovechando unas instalaciones, ya muy alteradas y algo decrépitas, que poco o nada tienen que ver con el monasterio original. De mencionar algo positivo, citar el audiovisual explicativo del monumento histórico que alguna vez fue. Sinceramente, mi opinión es que no merece la pena ni acercarse a la localidad.

Lugar semi abandonado. Deja mucho que desear, con una entrada muy cara, aunque los jóvenes y los niños no pagan. No queda apenas vestigio de lo que fue.

Decepcionante. No vale la pena pagar 10 euros para ver en 3D un video de como había sido la abadia. Poca informacion en los paneles, donde ponia sentido de la visita y una flecha solo dabas vueltas en el mismo sitio. Se conserva el interior en muy mal estado. El 1r piso es una residencia? para estudiantes, jovenes arriba y abajo, no sabias ni por donde ir. No vale la pena entrar. De fuera es bonito.

Pongo una estrella porque desde la taquilla del parking hasta la puerta de la abadía, si vas con niños, tardas más de 10 minutos andando. A las 17:30h es la última hora a la que puedes acceder. Como en la información de Google ponía que cerraban a las 19h ( error, cierran a las 18h, he intentado que cambien el horario) fuimos a las 17:20h a por las entradas en la taquilla del parking y la chica muy amable nos dijo que fuésemos rápido a la otra taquilla porque eran muy tiquismiquis en el horario de acceso a la abadía y teníamos que llegar a las 17:30h cómo máximo. Pues bien, llegamos a las 17:34h porque la muchacha nos indicó en el mapa otra calle, sin querer, imagino que por las prisas. Así que no hemos podido visitar la abadía. Moraleja: mejor llamar para confirmar horarios. Un saludo!

De la antigua abadía solamente queda una sola torre y el resto no merece en absoluto la pena
