Opinions de Kotori Calexico
Been eating here 4 years & i love the place. But all waiters are the same. They need to come around more often to refill drinks. Hate to raise my hand Everytime. Feels like I'm bothering them. Or makes me want to get up and sev my own drink
I’ve never had Kotori before so I was so happy to find out the food they serve is absolutely delicious! The Calexico and California roll were tasty. And the torikatsu plate was also super good and came with a lot of food! The staff was super pleasant and I will for sure be coming back : )
Highly Recommended! Carli was my server. Exceptional. Their spicy, jalapeno, soy sauce is great! Nice touch to add fresh limes to the spicy edamame!
Tried sushi for the first time. Thanks to the love of my life. I didn't think I was going to like it, but I did. ....or maybe because I was enjoying her company.... whatever the case, it was a good moment. Thank you baby for showing me so many places. Can't wait to be there sometime soon !!!
Good fast food Japanese restaurant. Many options to choose from. Good food. Different styles. The Kotori ball was delicious. The earth sea and spirit roll was good too. Service was friendly. It was like a fast food restaurant that wasn't that fast because the food was made to order. Good quality.

Hello I am a passing resident of San Diego and stumbled across this little sushi place and honestly the best food I’ve had in a very long time !!! My server rosy was the best, she gave me outstanding service and made me feel welcomed. I would recommend anyone that is passing through Calexico to come and enjoy this magnificent food !! Thank you to Rosy and all the cooks.
The food here is amazing. Service is great. I recommend the special teriyaki bowl.

don't know much about sushi but i like their rolls. great service, free wifi, something to watch on the TV and free iced tea refills. usually stop by after a long drive so i know at my most irritable if I can find a place where it's clean, quiet and get some good food with great service then i know i can enjoy any other time.
Food was ok customer service 100
A classic "mexican style" sushi roll spot; I am calling this mexican style because most if not all of the rolls they offer are cooked, so it is not your traditional sushi roll where the fish tends to be raw. A little too expensive for what it is, but it's alright every once in a while..
Ordered sushi and a sampler platter for a friend. The service was on point. The ingredients were fresh. Ample/safe parking lot. Its an order at the counter restaurant but well worth the visit. My bill was approx $30.00 Take out. I returned 3wks after my initial visit and dined in. Waitresses who waited us were amazing. The ingredients once again were amazing. Honestly I've never been a fan of sushi until now. I give the restaraunt an A+ rating.
Very tasty! Very busy! Went there 2 days in a row! The only thing that I did not like was the bathrooms! They smell really bad. So much that you can smell them all the way out to the cash register and dinning area. Big turn off.
I decided to visit this location after craving sushi, I hadn’t been here in a couple of years and wasn’t sure if ownership had changed. Upon entering, I immediately noticed a strong sewage-like odor, which was unfortunately off-putting and made me a bit nauseous at first. While you do get somewhat used to it after sitting for a while, it definitely affected the overall dining experience and would likely keep me from returning unless it’s addressed. Service-wise, we stood for a bit before realizing dine-in guests are seated and do not order at the register, but once we were settled, our food arrived within about 30 minutes, which was nice. There were only a few other tables and a couple of takeout orders at the time. The food itself was good! My partner had a teriyaki bowl that came with soup and four pieces of sushi, and I ordered a breaded roll. The portions were generous and well-priced for what we got. Overall, the food and service were solid, but the odor and overall ambiance took away from the experience. If those issues were improved, this location could definitely have much more appeal.

The drive-thru pick up order service is not always available and ordering by phone is almost impossible to do, specially Fridays and Saturdays, because they don't answer or take phone calls orders, most of the times.
I've order twice take out and both times they got my order wrong.. the food is good don't get me wrong I'm not used to waiting 45 minutes for takeout I'm just saying
The previous visits have been great. Today, they really set up for disappointment. I waited 20 minutes for a waiter and even considered taking out between that time, so maybe then they would acknowledge us, but no. They ended up serving customers who came 10-15 minutes after us. Servers and cooks made eye contact as well but didn’t bother to ask if we’ve been attended. We left no acknowledgement as well. *heart shattered*
Good food, good taste. But the waiting time it's ridiculously slow. Worst if you order by drive thru, the restaurant it's practically empty and we're waiting for more than 40 min so far.
The food is great, the customer service on the other hand is lacking. The employees are really unwelcoming and borderline rude. I asked if their phone was working because I attempted to call to place my order before driving there and the phone would send me straight to voice mail. This number was working before so I was wondering if it changed. The employee (I think it was management) told me their phone is working fine and stated that they have two phone lines. She didn’t attempt to even direct me to the best number to reach them and just walked away from the counter before I could ask any other questions. Overall, I’m not impressed with their customer service. Their employees appear aloof.
Food is great, service is slow. I've eaten from here twice now, and my recommendation is to order takeout. There is a strong odor of like rotten eggs that makes it impossible to enjoy your meal inside.
Chicken cuts in the chicken teriyaki are not the best as some pieces frequently have cartilage. None of the imitation crab sushi rolls had imitation crab in my pickup order, only rice and cream cheese lol. Maybe they ran out as it was late. Apart from that, food was tasty.
Good food, services was slow.

Used to be a good place to eat with fair prices, and specials on many varieties of sushi,...Not anymore,...way too expensive. And they charge you about 3 dollars extra for extra sauce when they barely drizzle anything on it. Come on guys!
I disliked that there are only certain things you can order at the drive thru. I wanted to order a simple teriyaki roll and I was asked to get off and go inside the restaurant to order it because they dont make them for you at the drive thru but they do if you order it to-go. Food is good, but my teriyaki chicken roll slightly tasted like tuna fish this time.
Great tasting food. The bad part and very inconvenient is that if you want to order take out you need to visit the place and wait until your food is ready because they hardly ever answer the phone. You can hear the phone ringing when you are inside picking your order and see that nobody picks up the phone line.
The food is good but the service is horrible they never ever answer the phone super bad service and they are very rude In person and on the phone. You guys would be perfect if you guys check the way the girls treat the customers some girls have a very bad attitude I love the food and I would go more often but with that bad service se te quitan las ganas de ir la verdad. I really hope management really sees that’s a huge problem and does something with it.
Sticky tables, overwhelmed staff, not easy to get their attention, food ok.

Only reason I give them two stars is because the food is actually very good, the customer service on the other hand is the worst in the Valley by far. I saw another review about how they don't answer their phones and then act rude about it when you ask like they don't want to hear about it and it's funny because I see nothing has changed yet. I can only imagine how many orders aren't made because of their negligence. If you want to order ahead of time, forget it, you'll just have to show up and wait there.

Real slow customer service. They never answer calls, and when they do they say they can't hear you and ask for you to call again, and dont pick up after hanging up on you. Its not the first time I've been through that same scenario. The food is good but servers are really inattentive and lack efficiency.
I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba and a Chicken bowl. Food was not good, the chicken on both entrees were way undercooked. I was alarmed when my son took a bite of the undercooked chicken and spit it out immediately. I will not be back. Eating undercooked poultry brings a possible presence of bacteria such as salmonella or campylobacter. The interior of the restaurant was clean and the employee who took my order was friendly.
I went with my family to the sushi wok located at the mall and the food was horrible. The chicken was old, the rica bad cooked and the salmon sushi i ordered was 99% rice and less than 1% salmon. The service was bad and it was too expensive and they also charge for the boxes to go.
Worst Sushi restaurant experience I've ever had. 1. Edemame was uncooked 2. Sushi was missing ingredients and was falling apart (sushi also lacked a lot of flavor) 3. Spicy mayo was watered down and tasted aged 4. No ginger or wasabi was served with any of my rolls. (that's standard almost everywhere) Waitress was the only good thing about it all. This place is basically a fast food sushi joint in opinion, not going back a second time.
These people don’t even attend you at the drive thru I had to go up to the window to get their attention still long wait food wasn’t All that great
Horrible service. As a restaurant under new management you'd expect them to try and be better than before, Placed a take out order and they told me to come back in 40 minutes to pick it up. When I get back the waitress literally tried to give my order away to a table after she said my order was ready. Then tried to explain to me that 40 minutes is not that long. All this after waiting outside a locked door that only opened when another guest walked out the door. The rolls were poor quality of course because they don't mind giving you food that's been moved from box to plate and plate to box by 3 different people.
Bad service when ur getting a Mr.Kotori plate and they don't want to give u the proper sauce and want to charge but if u eat there they don't ur on full unlimited manager (or he claimed to be the manager) was insanely rude and fighting me over sauces 2 sauces over a Kotori plate isn't to proper ratio nor for the sushi I ordered bathrooms were disgusting not even sanitary horrible service for everything I paid for
My experience on 10/26 uncooked chicken and a fly in my sweet tea. Bad experience after hearing so many good things about this establishment. Not to mention the 10 minute wait before getting acknowledge on a kinda slow day.
They are very very very slow. They never answer the drive thru. I had to call so that they could come up to the window.
Had a really bad experience with kotori in calexico. For once i have called numerous times to order ahead but no one picks up the phone. I walked in and ordered a simple calexico roll to go, this was at 12:30 with 52 seconds. I sat down and waited. Minutes pass and I see people who got there after me getting their food. At 12:54 I ask them if my roll is ready. The waitress gets my receipt and goes and asks the cooks about my roll. From what I was able to grasp, they had not given him my order at all. I told her if I can just get my money back and she said she doesn’t have change and that the manager had gone to get change so either way I had to wait. While still waiting I saw the manager walk in with the money bag. I went to him, showed him my receipt and asked for my money back. He went and asked the cook and came back to me and said it’s almost done. I said no thanks I just want my money back. He whispered under his breath, “puta madre”. At that moment the girl came up with my roll to which I told her no I’m just gonna get my money back. I got my money and left. I waited 30 MINUTES for a simple calexico roll to go. Very very bad service! Never going there again!
The place went downhill, I called ahead of time to ask a question but they didn't answer the phone after calling 4 times, went to the resturant to dine in and heard the phones ringing and employees ignoring the phone. Sat down, they ignored us for a good while, ordered the sweet tea and it was garbage with stuff in the bottom, ordered our food and after a complete hour of waiting( not exaggerating) and hour we got our food and it was terrible, payed and left and not even 30 minutes have passed and I am sick with food poisoning throwing up. Horrible food ,and they are are notorious for terrible service.
Sincerely, it was bad. And this coming from a long time fan of the restaurant. I used to go to the one in El Centro several years back. I liked it so much that I would program my lunch time *just right* so I could enjoy some teriyaki heaven. Then all the restaurants in El Centro closed. I went to the one in Imperial, the service was bad and the food, well, it wasn't the same. I stopped going for some time until today that I gave myself the treat of going to the restaurant in Calexico. I used to pay a bit less than 10 dollars for the regular sized bowl. Now, I paid almost 10 dollars for the smallest thing and that wasn't even what I had asked for. They took about 20 minutes to have my food ready, the restaurant looked clean but a bit cramped. The chairs and the table looked as if they were going to fall apart, they were not sturdy. The bathroom was ok and clean. The cashier looked as if he wished he was somewhere else. I worked in customer service for almost 15 years, I know it gets annoying and very trying but we have to realize it's not the customer's fault that you're not having a good day and it's because of the customer that you have a job to begin with. Anyway, when they gave me my food. The container was too small and the flavor was simply not there. Not even the jalapenos had any bite to it. I couldn't even taste the teriyaki sauce. The chicken was well cooked and the rice was OK but then again, no flavor. And if I asked for a chipotle sauce it would be 50 cents at least extra. Needless to say, I will not go back there. I am sorely disappointed that they decreased so much in food quality and service, they still provide less than stellar customer service and hiked their prices as if it was going out of style. I no longer recommend this restaurant. Try something else. Good thing there are now plenty of choices in the Imperial Valley.
I’ve loved kotori since they had all three locations in the valley and the food is very good, but the service sucks compared to old locations. We called in an order 30 min before we arrive and tell us to park and they’ll bring it. Nope we waited 30 min outside until we decide to go inside to just see our food waiting there. Also forgot our sweet tea and they forgot the eel sauce which is the best part. They only put 2 chipotle and one chopstick for two sushi rolls. I remember back then they would include chipotle, eel sauce and jalapeños but I guess not anymore.
I ordered their Pho and it was disgusting. Worst tasting, chicken was hard thick chunks. Nothing like authentic Pho. Don’t eat here.
Horrible customer service. I came here recently and they took forever to even acknowledge us when we came in. We waited 20 minutes for them to give us our check to pay and they would never ask if we needed anything. The food is not a as good as it used to be either. Please don’t waste your time coming here. There are other places in the valley that are much better. Such as sushi park.
First, I'm paying for rice since the baked chipotle chicken, and California roll where full of rice as shown in picture? For example, the roll was like 90% rice and 10% chicken. Next, why would they charge extra for soy sauce? Isn't sushi rolls must be eaten with soy sauce? At last, did they change of " Cheft" ? The food was better back then.

Waited 47 minutes for my order just to get it wrong not only that I would understand if it was busy but their was only 3 people there
Horrible service. They had me waiting almost and hour for food. They kept saying 5 more minutes because we asked they saw us waiting and just decided to continue to socialize. I tried leaving to pay for the drinks and the server still non chalant attempted to charge me for the food. I told her I wasn’t going to pay for food I didn’t received because I never received food, and did not display accountability for their mistake. First time there never going again.
🫰👎👎$$ Sagavi Sushi is better quality, taste and price 🫰👍👍$$
My kids got food poisoning positive for salmonella from eating their rolls. Possibly because they prepared the rolls where they prep chicken. Later knew from the Health department that there were other cases from the same day that ate at Kotori.Used to like this place, but unfortunately service and quality as well as this incident, made them lost my business.
Food burned, when tell the waiter she also noticed that the food was burned and told us to tell manager, but manager said that he will tell who ever made that dishes and that next time I have to tell them right away... That's all. So we ended paying $47 Dlls for burned foodNot recommend! We used to like this restaurant, but no more, sorry!
I was dissapointed I got food poisoned minutes after eating here. I should've trusted the red flags such as a foul smell of something rotten when I walked in. I figured maybe it was their trash with spoiled fish. I don't usually get food poisoned, I've been to many fast food places and its incredible that I haven't been here in a while and got sick coming here. I ordered the Calexico roll and it tasted ok. I didn't perceive anything that would alarm me, so I can only assume cross contamination or an ingredient going bad. They really need to be more careful with the food they handle, especially seafood. If they don't maintain their ingredients fresh and serve people expired food and don't follow food safety practices, it's going to get worse. Im never coming back here.
