At last a REEAL Fish n Chip shop in Calpe, and fantastic quality too. I love the chunky chips and the haddock was to die for :) The staff were friendly and efficient and the presentation perfect. If you are in Calpe you have to go here. Highly recommended!!!

Very tasty and great value for money ...it's great to have real fish and chips in Calpe although when I moved to Spain I never thought I would be saying that 😅... Always miss your home comforts...!!! Give it a try ,you won't be disappointed..☺️.

Are 1st visit to calpe. Walking round the shops .we came across...smyths. fish &chip shop. Received a really warm welcome from Mrs smyth .Sat out side under the beautiful shaded area. And when our fish &chips arrived. Hot crispy fish and hot taste chips . The fish batter was to die for .. Service excellent. If fact the whole establishment is spotless .. Went in on Friday night, 26 May 2023, our second visit and it was fabulous, we had chicken & mushroom pie chips & gravy fish chips & curry sauce & Batterd sausage chips gravy, all four of us went away feeling very full ,we would recommend anyone visiting calpe to give them a try,thank you to all the staff fir making us feel at home.

Spending some days in Calp, I heard about an amazing fish and chips place and thought I had to check it out.. So glad I did! Best cod and chips I've had in many years, came with a great curry sauce too. You clearly notice and appreciate how fresh and high quality everything is. I can honestly say this is the best fish and chip shop I've ever been to let alone in Spain. I come from the UK and I have my favourite chip shops all over the country but this tops them all I had the steak pie it was out of this world with large chunks of meat and gravy to die for! I don't with my mother who has the fish and she said it was sublime. We were served by a lovely waitress called Petra who came out and spoke to us and really made our evening. Big thanks to Des the chef... Please come to London and open up a shop???????

As someone who can’t tolerate gluten I was delighted to see that this was provided as an option which is quite rare at a fish and chip shop. It’s also great to see a number code system listed with the food to show all possible allergens. I had cod and chips and it was simply delicious. No grease in sight, the batter was perfection and the home made tartare sauce was divine. The rest of my family also loved their meals and no doubt this is the best fish and chips we have had in Spain. Great idea to have the meal deals which includes a side dish and hot or cold drink. The Coffee was lovely. Beautifully clean including the toilets. Superb service and located seconds away from the front. There is nothing to fault at Smyths. Will be back with no hesitation x

We have been anxiously waiting for a proper fish and chips diner here in Calpe. I must say they knocked it out of the park. After placing my first order today i will be back frequently, I am sure. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. The batter was delicious and just the right thickness where it doesn't distract from the beautiful cod but accents it's delicious flavour. The fries were very good and nice and thick. Please keep doing what you are doing. Everything was great.

For our family of 5 to want to look outside of Altea for food is has to be worthwhile. And worthwhile it was !! We had heard about a good chippy in Calpe serving up good old British Style Fish and chips, so we went to check it out . Now, my wife grew up in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife which is home to the best chip shop in the UK and has won awards every year to prove it, so she’s setting the bar pretty high . I have to say they were the best fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time, crispy batter, beautiful white fish and proper potato chips - not your MacDonald’s variety - mushy peas where ace and the kids loved the curry sauce ! Des the owner was more than happy to spend a minute at the table to ask how the food was which I thought was a nice touch . It doesn’t get better than this for fish and chips. A lot of people are serving up this British favourite but no one is getting it as right as here - We’ll be back no doubt about that !!!

Andrew I have to disagree with you in your review below, I found €16.50 great value for the food and service you are getting. I'm not a lover of peas and was given the option of a portion of curry sauce which was devine with the freshly cooked chips. Would highly recommend and will be back in September and will definitely be calling in again.

Who would have thought you would find such a gem on the Costa Blanca. This is really good fish and chips, a worthy rival of the best the West Coast of Ireland has to offer. If you dont like this you dont like Fish and Chips. The chips themselves are fantastic, hand made, double fried. The fish is steamed perfectly in the batter and the garlic chips being back a fond memory of many a post-pint night at home. To add the innovation of great vegan/veggie option in a chipper is a touch of class and imagination you will not find elsewhere. I tasted lots of the food because I ate there several times in one week. The delicious food complimented by superb staff, smiling faces and a genuine welcome!

After seeing the good reviews for Smyths we thought we would give it a try. I have to say the fish is first class with excellent fresh cooked chips. The tatar sauce , mushy peas and curry sauce, which we thought we would try are an excellent accompaniment. Excellent friendly service from Sarah and the owner. we will definitely be going there again. Highly recommend.

A very nice Fish and Chip meal with haddock and curry sauce. This was our first pensioners meal, in fact the first anywhere! I wanted a curry sauce instead of mushy peas, no problem, no charge. No charge for the drinks, all included. Excellent staff, asked if we wanted malt vinegar, asked if the meal was OK, fetched the plates in when we had finished. She even asked if the dog wanted some water! We came from Jalon just for the meal and we weren't disappointed!

Where do I begin with Smyth's Fish and Chip restaurant!! Absolutely fantastic fish, the batter is so light, cooked there as you order by Irish Des, just like myself. The chips are real potatoes, cooked to order also and the curry sauce to die for. Patty , Des's wife served us and was so nice. We went back a second time it was so good. The menu is just like the chipper at home and I believe the steak and kidney pie is a must. This is the first chipper I have found outside Ireland in all my travels, a wonderful idea by Des and Patty and I wish them continued success. If you are visiting Caple do not pass this restaurant, the restaurant is also immaculately clean with fresh white tiles and beautiful toilets. I will be back. Congratulations to both of you. We visited here yesterday and were greeted by a very friendly lady who kindly fit us in and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious and matched all the other positive reviews. We also met the chef who was also another friendly character and mentioned the fish is cooked fresh everyday. Would certainly recommend this place

Had our tea here tonight and it was beautiful. The fish is lightly battered and delicious. Great welcome from Sarah and Des. Very friendly. It's spotless and have to add the toilets are very clean. Will definitely be returning.

I have now visited Smyth's again and extremely happy to say the chips are now perfect, crisp on the outside yet soft and fluffy inside. The fish batter as before is perfect and now served on a plate it is perfectly presented. Will definitely be going back again but will not leave it so long next time.

Smyths fish and chip shop made us feel so welcome the staff a really freindly and the place is spotless clean. Me the wife and our small dog came here tonight and we had the best guiness steak pie chips mushy peas and gravy each. In the 14 months since moving to the Iberian Peninsula I have been looking for fish and chips that taste the way they’re supposed to. If you’re a fan you know exactly what I’m talking about. Well, today (at the end of a lovely stroll on the promenade at Playa de Calpe) I found what I was looking for… at Smyth’s fish and chips. Not only were the fish and chips were class, but the owner brought our dog Murphy a bowl of water and a sausage to boot! Highly recommended!!!

Posiblemente el mejor pescado frito que he comido en mi vida. Pedí una hamburguesa de pescado, y el rebozado era fantástico: ni mucho rebozado, ni poco, lo justo. Las patatas fritas, de las mejores que he comido en mucho tiempo. Las salsas, en concreto la tártara, increíbles. Todo casero, y producto fresco. Me gustó tanto, que decidí repetir y pedir el pescado rebozado, y estaba exquisito. Me recomendaron probar la salsa curry, y la tarta de carne, y también me gustaron. La atención fue de lo mejor. Se nota que el dueño ama lo que hace. Si vienes a comer aquí, déjate recomendar por él y quedarás satisfecho. ¡Volveré sin dudarlo! 10/10.

Después de años veraneando en Calpe y queriendo venir a probar un auténtico fish & chips por fin lo hicimos. Y no pudimos acertar mejor. El trato super agradable , nos explicaron al detalle la forma de pedir por ser novatos en esto. La mujer super atenta. Y la comida deliciosa, pedimos el bacalao con varias salsas....y era tan jugoso...tan bien rebozado...nos encantó!!!!

Me comuniqué por la mañana me respondieron enseguida sobre el horario de tarde (18:30 a 21:30), porque nos apetecía de hace mucho probar un Auténtico Fish y Chips… para nuestra alegría a las 18:20 ya estaban abiertos, aparcamos a 20m, hicimos la comanda y en 15m nos preparó 4 Haddock (eglefino) rebozadas (brutal), con patatas fritas, salsa tártara (casera hecha en el Momento) pedimos también un tarrito de salsa de curry y de puré de guisantes. Muy majos y muy recomendable probar.

Si te gusta el bacalao fresco, rebozado bien hecho, acompañado de unas riquísimas patatas fritas, este es el sitio para disfrutarlo. El mejor bacalao rebozado con patatas que he comido en mucho tiempo. Nada grasiento, crujiente por fuera y jugoso por dentro, acompañado de salsas tártara, alioli, curry o el típico vinagre. El pastel de carne riquísimo. Muy pendientes del comensal. Sin duda para repetir y aconsejar.

We had heard about this chip shop having a good range of vegetarian and vegan options and the options we're fab. In the group, we had fish, battered veggie sausage and a vegan fish burger and all were lovely.

Obsługa bardzo sympatyczna i szybko zrealizowała zamówienie. Sama ryba z frytkami smaczna, aczkolwiek bolał mnie po tym daniu brzuch, ale może dlatego, że na co dzień, nie ma takich pozycji w moim menu.

Was quite an enjoyable meal, just a run of the mill fish and chip shop, not that cheap.

I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews, but it was a letdown. 9.50 for a single piece of fish, another 1.50 if you wanted tartar sauce with it. All that would have been better stomached if the fish wasn’t overcooked and chewy. A small middle pice was ok, but ALL the rest was thin, dry and very over cooked. Fries were ok, but these were a bit underdone, and the bulk ketchup they used to refill the empty once brand name ketchup was absolutely horrible. No draft beer, just cans. Over all I just can’t see going back for 35 euros for 2 small pieces of fish, shared single order of fries and 2 beer. Honestly had to stop an hour later for a small bite as we were both hungry again. Overall a 3, fish was maybe 2.5, guys working there did a good job serving etc. I really wonder if it was an odd day or those who posted ‘best fish and chips on the coast’ might have been ‘encouraged’ to post such a great review

I ordered haddock for 9.50 euros without chips. The bill came for 19 euros with a description of haddock (large). In fact, the portion of fish was ordinary.

Cenamos mi marido y yo porque nos apetecía pescado con patatas inglés porque hacía tiempo que no lo comíamos. La chica muy amable esforzándose en hablar español cuando mi marido habla inglés perfecto. Tiene una terraza que es muy agradable cenar allí. La comida bien, he probado mejores fish and chips, la verdad pero estaba aceptable. Pero un poco caro para lo que te ofrecen. Las salsas las cobran a parte. Cuando en otros sitios las ponen gratis y están más buenas. No tienen postres, un fallo grande. Nosotros no volveremos, iremos a otros sitios aunque nos pille más lejos. El gravy 2e me parece un robo y la salsa tártara 1.50e también. La chica estaba todo el rato mirándonos en la terraza apoyada en la barandilla, eso nos creó malestar. Pensamos que desconfiaba de nosotros, éramos los únicos clientes en ese momento. Por esos detalles yo no lo recomiendo. Cuesta aparcar bastante, puede que fuera porque es verano. Del año pasado a este ha cambiado un poco la cosa, el año pasado fuimos varias veces por el fish & chips y sobre todo por la pinta de guinness. Este año hemos vuelto y el género parece que ha cambiado un poco y la filosofía de los dueños también, llegando incluso a no completarte la pinta de guinness (que tampoco es barata). Pedimos 2 combos de bacalao y uno de ellos era eglefino (culpa nuestra por no decirlo). Una pena.

I’m puzzled by the reviews I’ve read on here. Soggy batter, very dry, chewy cod and soggy, dirty looking chips. Mushy peas were okay. And €3.50 for a small can of San Miguel ( not included in the meal deal apparently). Awful elevator music to boot!

Unbelievable. NO tonic water, my mother in law was wounded, but she selected another drink and we moved on. Then NO COD!! We should have got up at that point, but no. 2 changed to pies and I had the haddock being assured, "I wouldn't notice the difference." All the food was soggy, yes! the pies had soggy bottoms and the chips were with the skins on. I have never had those in a fish n chips shop. It's a shame you can't give no stars. There are awards on the wall!
