Cute modern style place for a date. (Also see groups of family) quality ingredients for the cheese/chocolate fondue. We ordered surf n turf. The veggies/desserts dips are bottomless. Fun place for date night. They have the set menu for 2. Your chance to agree with the other person what food to share (or fight lol). See menu in pics. Service charge included in the bill.
Post COVID, one of the few places worth the cost of going out these days. Lance was a great server.
Love this place. Come here often to celebrate special occasions, and the atmosphere and food is always good. Host could have been more attentive during my most recent visit. She prioritized seating someone without a reservation over us with a reservation, and we had to wait longer than I would've like. What's the point of a reservation.
Always have a great time at La Fondue. It’s such a fun spot and the food never disappoints. It can be a bit of a long visit, but honestly that’s part of the whole experience. The Four Cheese and Stinking Rose fondues are both amazing, and the fondue feast is the way to go if you want to try a little of everything. The spinach salad is super good too. Just don’t eat the whole thing if you want to save room for the rest. And the Big Chocolate fondue at the end? Sooo good. Always a favorite.
One of my favorite bay area restaurants, been coming here for years. We moved to SoCal years ago but we always make a point to come back here when we're in town. Did the surf and turf grill option this most recent visit and the seafood was all excellent.
We like this place, no lie. If you do the math it's actually a decent value, even though it's food you cook yourself. We were there for almost two hours for just over 120. The staff is generally really good as well. Update for 2023, it's definitely a 'once a year type place'. Still a great night, but grossly overpriced now. We'll still come back. 2025, slight change to the pricing structure. Special event night, 4 of us for 450. Waiter was great, but we got our salads to go, and..., never got them. Oh well. Live and learn 😢
Being vegetarians and not too fond of cheese we had avoided this place for more than 2 decades. But so glad we finally decided to try it! Plenty of options for vegetarians and the service is amazing they cater to every need. Excellent fresh vegetables and the desert fondu was delicious. Now looking forward to our next visit to try a few other items on the menu. We had the stinking rose which was a little bland for us but then they suggested cayenne peppers with it 👍 The starter salad was excellent I had it with lemon tarragon dressing on the side. The grilled veggies and the dips to go with it just fantastic!! They even made a complimentary toast to celebrate Father’s Day. Note: -The dress code is casual at least when we were there we saw a lot of them in shorts and quite informal attire. This was one of the reasons we avoided this place earlier. -our son on the spectrum enjoyed the food and the place, they have plenty of tables so even though he is verbal autistic it was not disturbing anyone, so other parents don’t hesitate if this is one concern to take your special needs child there. - They do not have GF bread which I wish they will add to their menu soon🤞for those who have a dietary restriction. Elana was our waitress and she was patient, friendly and just amazing making sure we had a great experience keeping in mind all the dietary restrictions we had mentioned. Highly recommended for vegetarians(even those watching sugar levels) and for those who avoid such formal places because of a special needs requirements.
My favorite restaurant ever because the fondue is so delicious and made with quality ingredients. We live 3 hours away now and STILL drive back to go here. Great date night spot or for special occasions. Takes a few hours to enjoy the full meal experience. Oh, they also have great cocktails, and I always get a white chocolate mocha with the chocolate fondue. So yummy!
I remember loving the melting pot in downtown Ann Arbor back in the day, and now, in California, I've found a little spot that brings back those memories. Pretty excited for my fifth visit as a cheese enthusiast! 🥂 Their menu consists of four fixed courses for a DIY experience: Salad, Cheese Fondue, Fondue Bourguignon, and Chocolate Fondue. 🥘 For the appetizer Salad: Two options, with free choice of dressing. We each picked one, and the portions are seriously generous! Since it's the starter, I'll save it for later to pace myself. 🧀 Chef's Recommendations 🧀 Spinach Salad 🥘 The first course, Cheese Fondue: I usually go for a mix of four cheeses with white wine, but this time I skipped the wine and tried mushroom soup – discovered a whole new world! Trust me, it tastes even better with soup, my buddies! [Wow] Unfortunately, no alcohol means no fire show. 🧀 Cheddar & Beer Blends 🧀 Swiss & White Wine Blends 🧀 Four Cheese & White Wine Blends 🥘 The second course, Fondue Bourguignon: Many options for DIY or choose their pre-set ones. Since it's a holiday, we went for the pre-set with six sauce choices for your creative touch. 🧀 Lobster, scallops, tuna, shrimp, wagyu beef, steak, veggies 🥘 The third course, Chocolate Fondue: Many people come just for the chocolate fondue – it's stunning. Usually, by this point, you're starting to feel a bit full, so I recommend the dark chocolate fondue to avoid excessive sweetness. On the holiday menu: 🧀 Peppermint Dream: A blend of white, dark, and milk chocolate with peppermint leaves. First time trying this combo, and it's impressive – ended up being my most consumed item that night! I usually visit this little place for special occasions or important dates – it's just perfect for that!
I've been coming to the Fondue since I came to California in the 90s. It is one of those places I go special occasions, or just when it has been long enough without enjoying the treat. Even my picky kids love a fondue once in a while (actually, as often as they could...) We pretty much always get the stinking rose cheese fondue. These come with a choice from among delicious salads, the chef's salad or the spinach salad, but these aren't simple solids they are creations in their own right. Well sometimes, especially when I go with the kids, we just get the cheese fondue as well as the chocolate fondue, usually one of the dark chocolate choices. Both the cheese and the chocolate fondues come with a good assortment of dippers. I still love the bread dippers, especially the pretzel bites, but the broccoli, apple and pickle dippers are very enjoyable as well. We go to town with the chocolate fondue dippers, there is a great selection and we each have our favorites. I love the pirouette and the cookie dough dippers most, as well as the apple slices. My kids love the marshmallow and shortcake dippers. The ambience in this restaurant is really cool, they put a lot of effort into decorating the various sessions with a Gothic or modern atmosphere. Just enjoying the decor is one of the treats for me when going to this place. The servers are all very interactive, involved literally helping us cook the food but also proactive and making sure our visit is as enjoyable as possible. For anyone who likes an interesting cheese dish, or even all those rare meats they serve with the meat fondue, this place could not be recommended more.
Waw this place! Not only is the food so good, but the experience made this stop a great night. Make sure you go on an empty stomach because you’ll be full for the next week after dinner, and trust me, you really want to try EVERYTHING served. You start off with your individual salad; i recommend the spinach with honey mustard dressing. They then make the cheese fondue in front of you (you select which one you want from the menu). The cheese is accompanied with bites you can dip in. I was pretty full already but we had out meats come in next! It’s a really fun place to go with a big party or just a one on one date because you end up cooking your meats on the grill and eating them the way you like. My favorite part was the amazing chocolate fondue! The bites they gave us to dip into the chocolate of our choice was incredibly delicious. Did I also mention their wine and drinks? Everything was done perfectly.
This is a place we love coming to for a treat. It's usually 4 courses but you can get a la carte as well. The portion sizes are pretty large if you plan to eat all 4 courses. Usually we are full after the salad and cheese fondue but manage to keep eating anyway because it's all tasty! One of the great things about fondue is that it takes time to get through each course. Waiting for the cheese to melt or each morsel of meat to cook really creates time for digestion and conversation. Plan for a 2 hour experience if you are going to have 4 courses. Excellent service and romantic atmosphere.
It was my first time having fondue, the server kindly and patiently explained everything about fondue, on how to choose how to cook and how to eat. We have the entree meat grilled, very tender and flavourful. The decoration of the restaurant is very unique. Overall a good experience and very recommended for anyone who wants to try fondue.
It was a fun first experience at this restaurant. Our group enjoyed our Valentine's dinner but because of all the cooking, the smell and smoke made all our outfits smell very bad. Also it's too expensive.
1st Timer! Didn't know I was gonna be cooking, but was good with it. I couldn't control the heat, so it may vary from table to table, wait staff to wait staff. Know good cooking times for beef, tuna and seafood. This is all for your main course. Our waitress was so busy and had so many tables she was struggling, did a great job, and finally gave us her time at the end. Expect to spend 2-3 hours. Awesome setting, in this old church. Too bad, for a very loud party, was just that very loud. A lady using her phone flashlight to see her food??? Seriously? Other than that, I proposed to my beautiful partner, she said yes!
La Fondue is a treat! We were celebrating a birthday and it did not disappoint! We started with espresso martinis and they were light and tasty! The three of us did the late night chocolate special and shared the danger mix with milk chocolate and toffee. There was a solid variety of foods to dip (strawberries, cookie dough, apple slices, bananas, rice crispy treat). It was decadent, delicious, and awesome girls night out!
I’m a regular for their Groupon ‘Le Frank’ deal. $85pp 4 courses dinner including salad, cheese fondue, protein skillet, chocolate fondue + sparkling wine. Each piece of protein look small but given the variety it’s a lot of food, they are also good quality. The service however could be better, 2 of us want sparkling water and 2 want regular, they served all of us sparkling. Half way through our cheese fondue I had to remind our waitress for our sparkling wine, the same for the red wine when we were almost done with our meat. Overall it was a very fun and yummy experience, I’d go to again when they have special.
Longstanding fondue establishment located in the heart of downtown Saratoga. The Medieval theme throughout the interior is an interesting choice, but overall the food was just average. It’s not an ideal setup for a family to share and try the various cheese and chocolate sauces, and the gamey meats’ flavors were simply too strong to enjoy (and very expensive). Fast and efficient service. Several parking lots within a 5-minute walk.
Exceptionally slow service. What should be a 1.5 to maybe 2 hour dinner took us 3 hours. Nobody originally asked if we wanted drinks, it took 20 minutes just to get us water and greet us at our table, and staff seemed confused I am only giving a 2 star because I feel bad for oir waiter who had wayyy too many tables
If you've ever been to a real fondue place in Europe, don't come here. Seriously. The concept is strange, not an authentic fondue. The quality of food is not good. The price is high indeed for the value. Slow service didn't help either. The place is kind of creepy. I was very disappointed. The only good thing for me were the drinks.
My boyfriend and I had a 6:00 reservation, but the evening got off to a rocky start. When we arrived, the two hosts at the front seemed either new or in training, and we were told there would be a wait because they didn’t have a server available yet. While we waited, we noticed other groups—including larger parties who arrived after us—were being seated first. After about 15 minutes of being overlooked, I finally spoke up, and only then were we shown to a table. Unfortunately, we were seated in a dark corner without so much as a word from the host, which made the experience feel awkward and frustrating. To make matters worse, our waiter seemed far more attentive and friendly to other tables that were seated after us, and even gave us a noticeable side glance that didn’t sit well. At that point, we asked to be relocated, as the experience already felt tainted. Thankfully, once we moved to a brighter area, things improved. A new server took over, service was much better, and we were even offered complimentary drinks as a way to make up for the rocky start. While the evening ended on a better note, the beginning was disappointing and not what I’d expect from such a long-standing Saratoga restaurant. For a place with La Fondue’s reputation, I expected more professionalism from the hosts and better hospitality at the start. Unfortunately, first impressions matter—and ours left a lot to be desired.
I didn’t expect my fiance and I to be here for almost 3.5 hours (mind you we eat fast) and we had plans elsewhere afterwards but had to cancel because of the painfully slow service. We arrived at 7:10 for our reservation, it initially started at 7 but parking was treacherous, not accounting that in this review (it is what it is). Right when our host was about to walk us down to our table, she actually dropped everything to show a guest who was joining another table to his seat. We then were brought to our seat where we waited almost 10 minutes for anybody to greet us. We chose the Le Freak course through groupon and had waited till 7:40 to even get a salad and water. The service was exceptionally slow and seems to be a lack of staffing but I’m guessing the atmosphere to others would be a distraction. Given we had places to be, that obviously did not turn out to be the case. I don’t mind waiting sometimes and don’t have as high expectations compared to my fiancé, but this was ridiculous to wait as long as we did. We scarfed down the salads, long wait for entree, water was being filled everywhere else but us as well. When entree finally came we did everything we could to try and get out at a reasonable time. Dumped all the seafood on the grill, then red meat, then chicken. All in all while the food was great for my first time here, this was absolutely not a good experience. So now we’re going home, it’s almost 11:00pm and our night ending here which was not what we expected.
Its been 15 years since we ate here. Its gone downhill so badly i cannot recommend it. Its not worth the hefty price. The meats were grisly & horribly marinated. The wagyu was so grisly i spit it out. Save your time & money & do not come here. It was awful.
