typical mountain place, family run; top
Friendly and courteous family service. Truly delicious menu. Worth a visit.
Friendly staff and truly excellent food! We ate delicious traditional dishes!
Informal but welcoming atmosphere; friendly staff, and the dishes we ordered were excellent.
I go there every year when I accompany my mom. It's a very nice, cool place, just a stone's throw from Madesimo. The menu doesn't have a huge selection, but it's pretty obvious: it's, after all, a refuge. The dishes they prepare, however, are truly excellent, the prices reasonable, and the owner is incredibly kind, friendly, and down-to-earth. Every time I go, it's a celebration for me. (The polenta taragna with eggs is a sight to behold <3 )
Super!
Nice place, cozy with an all-wood interior. Local food at a medium price. Servizio fai da te.
Pizzocheri
I went there with friends for lunch on a Sunday. The atmosphere was welcoming, the menu varied enough, the food good (the pizzoccheri were excellent), and the value was in line with other restaurants in the area. The service was a bit slow (there's only one person in the dining room who can't work miracles), but since it was a relaxed lunch, it was a chance to chat calmly. The checkout process was decidedly disorganized: since you can't pay at the table, you have to go to the cashier, where I had to wait in line for about half an hour. Again, there's only one person managing everything: she stands at the register, takes orders, takes care of the drinks and coffees, and occasionally disappears to go to the kitchen. In short, between lunch and checkout, it took over two hours, partly due to the sneaky people who skipped the line and the cashier couldn't handle them. I can understand the "madness" (this is the lady's justification) on a sunny Sunday packed with tourists, but for this very reason a little more organization would have been useful: it would have been enough to divide the line at the checkout between those who only needed to pay the restaurant bill and those who needed to buy lunch.
The pizzoccheri, both the Valtellina and the white ones, were excellent. I would have also liked to try the roast, but sitting there for 30 minutes with the finished pizzoccheri on the table put me off. One waitress (who, by the way, disappeared for up to 5 minutes at a time) for 40 people is perhaps a bit too few. The apple strudel was too dry. Not to mention that it was brought with a fork and a spoon (???) without a knife to cut it, and for 6 euros!! She'll never see us again.
The service is nonexistent (you have to get a table yourself, queue to order, and wait forever for your food to be ready). But it's self-service, and that might be okay. However, I don't expect to pay €15 for a tiny portion of sautéed mushrooms (see photo) or €6 for a scoop of polenta at a self-service restaurant. €21 for lunch... unacceptable to me.
We reserved for 8 people. We came after a long struggle to arrive because cars could get there so we needed to park in the city and then take the bus. My grandmother was with us and it was very tiring for her. We arrived to the restaurant and sat on the table was so excited to order until the waitress comes and tells us they have a none dog policy. I mean, if you have a none dog policy in the middle of nowhere where 75-80% of people comes with their pets you should highly precise it. So unfortunately we left and i couldn’t try the food because i didn’t want my dog to freeze to death.
