Opinions de French Cafe And Bakery Carlsbad
Kiddos were hungry and didnt eat breakfast before summer camp. The bakery was close by and on the way to their drop off. The bakery had a good selection of items and each of the kiddos found something they wanted for breakfast. We ended up with 1 butter croissant, 1 chocolate croissant, 1 cherry danish, and 1 lemon turnover. Each of the kiddos loved their pastry and polished them down within 5 minutes. Service was quick and friendly. I had a cinnamon honey latte with oat milk. It had nice flavor and not overly sweet. Will stop by again if the kiddos get up late like today and need a quick breakfast before lagoon camp. Couldn't take pictures of the food since the kids ate it all before I sat down with them. Literary we arrived, ordered at the counter, the kiddos ate, and we were on our way back on the road within 10 minutes. Quickest breakfast stop.
The croissants and the thumbprint cookies and their la Crema Café was awesome! Every time I go to Carlsbad, I always make sure I get up every morning and go there. I absolutely love it and everything about it!
Almost everything I get here is great. The prices are a bit high for some things and the pistachio cake is very bland. The chocolate raspberry cake is absolutely decadent. The butter croissants are on point. Chocolate truffles are probably my favorite. Great breakfast but the espresso has a earthy (dirt) taste to it. It tastes like it smells when I clean my machine. Overall an absolutely wonderful place
This is a very nice little French cafe, my wife and I have had breakfast which was good. She had the Benedict and I had a breakfast sandwich. Their breakfast menu is small and they don't have a large sitting area so it could fill up on the weekend. I come much more often for the pastries, they have a great assortment of different cakes and desserts that are delicious. Their creme brulee is amazing and it's just the right amount. A must try in the village.
FINALLY! I went here once by accident and it was incredible, exactly the high quality pastries I’ve been searching for. And then I forgot where it was located or what it was called and spend the last year and a half trying to find it. So happy my wife found an old photo with the name of the place and I was able to go back to this wonderful pastry cafe.
This a great bakery! I can say that having a lot of experience in both French and Italian bakeries, being born and raised in Italy! The chocolate almond croissant was the best I ever had, and the espresso was amazing too! I'll be coming with friends and family as much as possible, even if it's not on my daily commute to work yet. Highly recommended!!!
First time coming here and boy was it amazing. Super cute place even for pick up. The cheesecake was great and the breakfast pastries were to die for. If I were to have any criticism at all it would be that I wished they made a flaky pastry with lemon filling because that would be just the best from here.
We have ordered cakes from the French pastry several times. There is a large variety of cakes that you can order and they are delicious. We will certainly be ordering more birthday cakes here again.
I had a lovely breakfast 🥞 🍳 🥞 🍳 outing with my granddaughter at this cozy spot! From the moment we stepped in, the friendly staff made us feel right at home. My granddaughter was super excited about her favorite, the Almond Croissant 🥐🥐🥐, and she absolutely loved the Banana 🍌 🍌 🍌 and Nutella crepe she ordered! As for me, I can't resist anything with Cinnamon, so I went for the delicious Cinnamon Roll with Raisins, and it was fresh and oh-so-good! For my main dish, I treated myself to the Chicken 🐔 🐔 🐔 🍗 🍗 and Avocado 🥑 🥑 🥑 Omelette 🍳 🥚 🍳 What a delightful meal we had!
Carlsbad French Pastry Café is always a must-visit whenever we’re in the area. It’s honestly one of my favorite restaurants in all of California! I even brought my sister, who lived in Europe for three years, to get her opinion on the pastries. She said they were better than what she had overseas—I knew it! My husband and I have tried several items from their menu over the years, including the Danishes, bran muffins, ham and cheese quiche, spinach and cheese quiche, ham and cheese croissant, bacon, egg, and cheese croissant, and the French onion soup during our last visit in the past 3 months. Every single dish is consistently delicious, and even the sides to the plates are too. I always make sure to order a latte—especially their seasonal ones—and they never disappoint. Everything is just *so good*! Adding to the charm, Olivier often plays with his band near the café door, and the music is such a wonderful touch. His son, Cassien, is always so kind, genuinely caring about every order and each customer’s experience. The entire staff radiates happiness and passion for what they do, which creates not just great food, but a fantastic atmosphere. If you’re in the Carlsbad area, don’t miss this gem—it’s a truly special spot! I’m glad to hear that they will be opening another location soon.
We had our breakfast/brunch at this establishment. I ordered breakfast croissant with ham (added avocado), and my friend had breakfast crepe. We were both delighted how fresh and tasty each plate was. My croissant was crispy outside and moist inside…many layers of ham with cheese and avocado were prepared delicately. I would recommend this establishment and will definitely come back. I understand they are moving to a new location near Palomar Airport.
We've been coming here for their signature strawberry cakes for years. The cake has fresh strawberries, real whipped cream on the cake and inside on a layer between the moist white cake and also covered in slivered almonds. This cake was for an 89 and 90th birthday celebration for my parents and everyone loved it!
Looking for a delicious croissant? 🥐 Carlsbad French Pastry Cafe has specialized in French pastries and custom orders since 1998! What we ordered: • breakfast croissant with fresh fruit • Cajun shrimp omelette with house potatoes • fruit tart • Pistachio cake • almond croissant • iced latte • cafe lysette I loved their croissants! I had it in the breakfast croissant plate and the almond version. It was so buttery and perfectly flaky! I had the Cafe Lysette which is a hazelnut, white chocolate latte. Loved the flavor combo and they did let me know it is a little on the sweeter side so if you want it a little less sweet, let them know! It really is such a cute bakery and you could tell they had a lot of regulars by how they interacted with their customers!
Lovely spot for pastry lovers and a delicious breakfast. Coffee was superb, with a wide selection of pastries and menu. Enjoy live music 🎶 @ 9am Saturday by the owner and his friend. ❤️
We got a cake here tonight and it was DELICIOUS! We came in last minute and picked up a cake from the case. We got the white cake with strawberries and whipped cream and all 13 people in our party enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend, it was fabulous!
Holy shoot the traditional chocolate moose was DELICIOUS with the cream, I loved it especially because of the flavors and it’s not too sweet, it was perfect. My husband also said the baguette is delicious and fresh.
Exquisite bakery! Everything tastes as good as it looks! Dine in is very nice as well. The service is very friendly, personable and professional! It's just the Best‼️
This bakery is the best! They have the best cakes in town. The pastries are so delicious, creamy, fluffy, tasty and perfectly sweetened. I love that they always have cakes ready to go!

Every time a celebration rolls around—whether it’s a birthday, a family milestone, or a simple moment worth sweetening—this is the place I find myself returning to again and again. There’s something unmistakably comforting about walking into their bakery: the glow of the pastry cases, the subtle aroma of fresh cream, and the promise that whatever I bring home will be beautiful, delicious, and dependable. What keeps me coming back most consistently are their cakes. They strike a rare balance between elegance and approachability—light, not overly sweet, and crafted with fresh ingredients that actually taste as good as they look. Whether it’s their signature fruit-topped cakes with airy whipped cream or seasonal creations that feel a bit more indulgent, each one has delivered the same result: a delighted crowd and a table that goes quiet because everyone’s too busy enjoying their slice.
Get some of their great pastries now while they are still at this location. The whole plaza will be emptied by March 31st. A new branch has opened in Bressi Ranch.
Relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Sad to hear that they may be closing this location soon. They have another place in Bressi ranch though

brownie is a little bit too dry, special dessert is 10 dollars but the taste is not worth that much. In the end, the best one is the house made cake.
I got lime mouse, croissants and baget. Croissants were slightly sweet for my taste and mouse wasn't sour. I'm from Los Angeles and have been checking out bakeries related to Europe for some time now, since I like it. My stars more like evaluation in comparison with other things that I tried in other bakeries that's why it not full
Excellent croissant. The meitschibei (horseshoes as they call them) with chocolate are good. The baguette lacked the internal structure of a traditional baguette. It may be overworked or under proofed. Either way, it is disappointing. The flavor was good.
This place has some of the most delicious pastries and baked goods! But be prepared to spend more money than you anticipated. Donuts are around 6 bucks and other smaller pastries are too. It sure is delicious though!
You definitely need to come visit this little gem! Their baked goods are amazing. I came for brunch this past week and had their French onion soup. It came with a side salad dressed with a vinaigrette and fresh sliced baguette. The soup had a great broth and was rich and hearty. The soup had lots of great caramelized onions, topped with baguette slices and broiled ooey, gouey cheese. I also always grab some of their Florentine treats to take home. Absolutely the best. I call them cigars. Think of a crunchy, gooey, caramel tube, dipped lightly in dark chocolate, then filled with rich French pastry cream. The absolute best!

Truly truly love this place and the cakes. Came in to ask for how much a cake would be and the person who attended me was so rude and with an attitude. I definitely would've given this 5/5 stars but I will not accept this attitude especially for this girl charging way more. Don't know if she's allowed to change prices on her own. Hopefully management talks to Sandra about her attitude. Overall the cakes are good😭 will come back but would not go in if she's there attending again.
It’s not too bad, but it’s not French, only French style. Also, the quiche was very soggy. I was disappointed that a French bakery with a French owner would also lower their standards to only make vanilla eclairs covered with chocolate glazing, as you can find in any supermarket bakery. If you’ve ever been to France, they usually have chocolate, vanilla or coffee eclairs with the corresponding glazing. It seems impossible to find that here, even in a place that calls itself “French”

I was hoping for a french style bakery but I think it has lost it’s luster over the years. The spinach quiche was tasty but hadn’t been warmed well so it was hot in places and cold in others. The music from the kitchens was conflicting with the music in the cafe. The glass pastry display case needed a clean and in general I felt the cafe needed a little TLC. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Have had great service and items in the past but this week tries to call in an order for Saturday only to be met with a voicemail not being set up so calls couldnt be taken. So i emailed in an order - no response after 2 days. Finally got thru after the 4th day of calling and an email only to be told that i couldnt order an assortment of the mini pastries, as i have done in the past, and could only order a dozen of each item. This was disappointing. The pastries are great but the service was very very disappointing and u expected after previous experiences.
Over the weekend (Saturday ) My sister bought a cake for my daughter 18th birthday party. Every one that tried it notice that it had a tangy, bitter taste. It seemed like strawberry that were inside tasted as if they had gone bad. It was pretty much wasted thrown away. The next day my sister called to tell them about the cake and the manager pretty much said all are cakes are made fresh and no one has ever complained, if you would like a refund you need to bring back the cake. This really got me upset like Seriously how stupid is it to ask someone to return a cake that was cut and served to over 40 guests. It was thrown in the trash, who is going into trash to get it out 🤦🏻♀️Does the manger not know that There’s always a first time for everything, things due happen. The least the manager could have done was apologized, give a partial refund or remake a new or give us a credit, mind you the cakes are a bit pricey my sister paid like around $75 dollars. What kind of business Doesn’t make it right for their customers. This will be the last time we will be ordering cakes.
I have been a loyal customer of this bakery for two years, but after my experience this morning, I won’t be returning. I had placed and paid for an order yesterday, and when I arrived to pick it up, I went to the cash register with my receipt. I was met with hostility and was told, in an extremely rude and condescending tone, to go to the end of the line near the counter where people were ordering pastries. Despite explaining that I had already paid, the young woman assisting me continued to speak to me in a disrespectful and dismissive manner. Even after I followed her instructions and waited in line, she publicly treated me poorly in front of other customers, making the situation even more humiliating. I understand that it’s Christmas Eve morning, and businesses like this are incredibly busy. However, being busy is no excuse for such unprofessional and unnecessary behavior. This level of disrespect is unacceptable, regardless of the time of year. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won’t be returning to this bakery.
Don’t waste your time or money here ! I ordered a Chocolate Mousse Cake here It was disgusting! I served it at a Party no one ate it they put rotten strawberries in the chocolate mousse (no idea why ) everyone politely pushed it around on their plates! When I called to complain they told me I had to bring it back.I had already served it so didn’t have it to return! She told me it was policy to return it! Then abruptly asked if there is anything else !!Rude ! I was never told nor did I see anywhere this policy! Unless you like rotten strawberries in your cake don’t shop here they don’t care what they serve you !!! Deserve zero stars for customer service ! Basically called me a liar because they used old rotten strawberries! I can’t describe how disgusting it tasted!
I hate to review so low but the quality of food here was not great. I stopped by for a baguette and a ham and cheese croissant both which were no good. The baguette was hard and stale as if it was sitting there awhile and so was the croissant. The croissant was almost completely hollow except for a small bit of ham and cheese both which were rubbery, dry and cold. The croissant bread was nothing notable either. I had come around 3pm and this croissant tasted bland as if it had been sitting since the morning or the day before. Expensive for subpar food. I will say that the restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the employees were very nice to one of the regulars. But the food isn't great.
I purchased a fruit tart, $35. It looked. It was terrible. The kiwi was hard and bitter, the strawberries had no flavor. The crust was bland as was the custard. It was inedible. I lived in France, I know the standard. The sad part was I took it to dinner with friends. I was embarrassed. Never. Ever again.
I’m mot satisfied with an 8 inch cake I bought on Saturday afternoon. I’ve had french cake before, but this one just no flavor it tasted plain. Everything in the cake like if it was sugar free taste even my family noticed it and we ended up wasting 1/2 the cake. Tasted weird for a cake. I won’t buy here again. Spent $38.00.
Very low quality deserts. Has nothing to do with how French pastries are made. They charge $7.90 for a mini crème prulee. Bad ingredient very high prices. Avoid this place.
Desserts are amazing! Unfortunately today, after purchasing 12 pastries I kindly asked for 12forks 1per pastry. Wife owner said “No we can’t hand out that many “with such an attitude. The husband is always way more polite & respectful. Hopefully they can hand out more forks in the future.
I have been a customer of this bakery for over 10 years and today was the 1st time I’ve experienced Horrible customer service. Not welcoming at all! It’s understandable if the bakery is full of customers or under staffed however, this wasn’t the case. At least 5 employees working the front (2 cashiers , 3 serving pastries) and only 3 Total customers. We ordered over 10 pastries and were served in 3 separate boxes, per our request, yet we were charged for 2 of those boxes. It’s a little ridiculous to have been charged for 2 small boxes, after spending over $60 in pastries. *** if you try this bakery, stay away from the older blonde, curly haired woman, with a nose piercing and tattoos… she has a terrible attitude!***
The place looks nice on the inside but it was so cold inside on a beautiful day that people trying to enjoy this cafe had to be in coats. It was colder than a hospital. Poor service, they kept rushing me to order when nobody was waiting in line and when I had questions their response was “I dont know,” the correct response is “I don’t know but let me find out. Now onto the food, all I can say is this is a low end bakery trying not hard enough to be a French Bakery. If you want phenomenal tasting French desserts and parties and great customer service I highly recommend Paris Baguette in Carlsbad. I ordered the pear tart, blueberry fruit tart, tiramisu cake and a chocolate croissant. I am from Europe where we have phenomenal food so trust the review. -The tiramisu cake was underwhelming and the cream on top was gross so I have to remove it. -The pear tart was very dry and the pears had no tase to them. -the blueberry fruit tart also disappointing because the cream wasn’t that good and there was barely any of it in the tart because they add in this grain junk under it when it’s only supposed to be the crust, cream and blueberries. The only pro was that the blueberries were really good. -The chocolate croissant was pretty good. Buttery and flakey and the right amount of chocolate. My total was only $23 which is very low but it makes sense with the low quality food. I will definitely never return and continue going to Paris Baguette because the cream they use in a lot of the pastries is phenomenal! Definitely not like the Boston cream crap at Dunkin Donuts. Yes Paris Baguette is pricey but you get what you pay for and they have a rewards program which is awesome. I would have rather saved the $23 and gone to Paris Baguette (no I don’t work there, it’s just the food is amazing!) I have attached pictures below, the last pic is everything we chose not to continue eating and tossed it and the cream was taken off the tiramisu.
This used to be our favorite spot for getting French style cakes for every birthday or celebration. This is the last time we will buy from here. I’ve never experienced finding hair in my food but we cut into a part of the cake and we saw a big hair come out of the frosting. We paid $45 plus tip for a half sheet of cake and couldn’t serve it after finding that. I am extremely disappointed with the quality that we used to rely on.

I will never recommend this place! My family and I visited on 9/13/25 at 4:18pm after seeing it recommended on Instagram, and the experience was terrible from start to finish. The girl at the counter immediately told us to sit near the bathroom, rolled her eyes while taking our order for 5 pastries, and looked visibly annoyed the entire time. I even tried to lighten the mood by commenting on her music and leaving a good tip, but nothing helped, she stayed rude and dismissive. By 4:23pm, she was already stacking chairs even though they close at 5, making us feel rushed and unwelcome. Another worker also walked out, glared at us, and made a noise as if we were bothering them. My wife noticed too and was understandably upset. At first, we thought maybe it was just us, but when other customers came in, both employees were just as rude. The pastries didn’t taste good mainly due to the experience, the negative energy ruined the entire visit more than the food itself. Having worked in restaurants before, I can say this was some of the worst customer service I’ve ever seen and experienced. I wish I could get a refund, especially for the tip.
I am a longtime Carlsbad resident and customer. I purchased a 1/4 sheet tiamirsu cake and was charged $55.75 and paid cash for it. 3 days later I received a phone call saying that the cake that I purchased was going to be $75.75 and if I wanted it I needed to pay them $20.00 more dollars for them to make it. The next day I told them that I would pay the extra amount as I needed it for a luncheon on Tuesday. Then they told me that it would not be ready until after 230 pm on Tuesday after I ordered it for 10 am pick-up. The time before this, I ordered the same cake and was charged $90.00 for the same cake. They had 3 different prices for the same cake. I got the same cake after this from a local bakery for less and it was much better. My advice is shop around before doing business with the French Pastry shop in Carlsbad. I will no longer do business with them and will file a complaint against them for their business practices. BEWARE!!!!!

BEWARE!!!!!
