always love stopping by for some books and coffee while i’m in town. if you love small presses and poetry epilogue has you covered <3
Super cool bookstore and cafe. They sell used and unique new books. They have drinking chocolate from the NC local chocolate shop Videri- very delicious.
We stumbled upon Epilogue visiting the Ackland Museum around the corner. It was a perfect place for us to grab some chai, coffee and muffins. The staff was great and there's lots of books to explore and comfortable seating to hang out in.
My fav bookshop in Chapel Hill! If you have never visited please do yourself a favor and make it happen. Epilogue is intentional about being welcoming to everyone, a great selection of books, and consistency hosts events and collaborations with UNC and other local groups and orgs!
I love this place. The coffee is always amazing and so is the hot chocolate. They've got such an interesting selection of books that I usually don't find at the big chain book stores. Also great seating.
Came here during a weekend trip for a wedding. The mangonada was so fresh! We had ordered the Dorian, but the staff discovered it was out of stock just after. The manager was so apologetic, he refunded us and gave us our iced tea on the house! Such a cute spot and phenomenal customer service. Will def come back the next time we’re in Chapel Hill!
My new favorite coffee shop that I have ever been to in the world. Amazing food and beverage, atmosphere, and service. They double checked the quality of their baked goods before handing it to me, which resulted in them offering me something else since the original item wasn’t “up to par with what they usually have”. I could tell they take a lot of pride in their food items. And who can beat the vibes of a coffee shop in a bookstore like theirs? I am excited to go back and try something new off the menu. :)
I stumbled upon Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews in downtown Chapel Hill, and what a delightful find! The place combines the charm of a cozy bookstore with the warmth of a coffee bar, creating an atmosphere that’s both inviting and unique. The concept of enjoying a good book with a freshly brewed coffee or a sweet treat is brilliant, and Epilogue executes it beautifully. The selection of books is impressive, with shelves lined with a variety of genres that cater to all kinds of readers. It’s easy to lose track of time browsing through their collection. The café area is equally appealing. The menu offers a nice range of coffee, pastries, and other goodies, all of which pair perfectly with the ambiance. The décor is thoughtfully done, with hanging plants, warm lighting, and plenty of seating that makes it a perfect spot to relax or get some work done. I was particularly impressed by how well the space balances being both a functional café and a bookstore. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Whether you're a book lover, a coffee enthusiast, or just someone looking for a cozy spot to unwind, Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews is definitely worth a visit.
We took a drip coffee, chocolate milkshake and their sipping chocolate. And all of them were delicious. Loved the sipping chocolate and the awesokenpkace to work and just read a book. Like a bunch of other books as well. This is a nice cute little cafe and bookshop. Emphasize on the book part :D Loved it
This is a great place with a cool vibe. I have edited my review since they first opened and its now one of my favorite places for coffee in CH. Great friendly staff, original pastries and coffee and a huge selection of books given the space they have to work with. In addition they are now offering delicious entrees before noon like the veggie tostada pictured, it is so tasty!
It’s a cute and quaint place. There’s a large selection of books and lots of seating, which was very full when we were in. The seating and space in general is packed tight together so it’s difficult to navigate at peak times. The coffee was good - a horchata latte and brown sugar vanilla latte shown in picture. Peanut butter cookies were average but the churritos (mini churros) with Dulce de Leche was a great snack!
Very cute location but do not come here in the mornings. Lots of strange people around the entrance and in the side reading room. I suggest afternoon visits and staying in the front by the counter. I was disappointed and left to go to Starbucks because I wasn’t comfortable
The single most pretentious coffeeshop experience of my life. And I came from Seattle, so you know that's saying something. Is it me? I ask myself that each time I've visited. That's right. I gave it three chances. Was I polite? My God, was I polite. Was i tolerant of the glacial pace of beverage creation? You bet I was. Was i willing to overlook the mediocre quality of my oatmilk mocha? Yes, until no. The third time of asking proved that it was a cultivated nonchalance, a learned indifference, and a disregard for virtuosity-or even effort-that flavored every aspect of my experience. Granted, I am not the target audience, at least based off the decor and curated reading selections. However, y'all means all, right? Avoid.
Workers are SO rude and judgmental. Food is good but way overpriced. Cute atmosphere, but the treatment by the workers ruined the entire experience.
I was at this establishment and was disgusted to watch an employee kick out two homeless people who were simply taking a seat near the store. They weren’t by the entrance and not causing problems. It felt racial. When I asked why he was doing that he said he “didn’t want problems” and they “looked like trouble” I will never return and will be making sure this is known campus wide. Very disappointed
I am a traveller for work. I always frequent coffee shops, libraries, and book stores. I have never had a situation such as the following. Sitting down checking out a book. Get approached by a worker and told "Hey I'm sorry but did you buy this book? You cannot read unless you buy. We have had people spill drinks on books." "Okay. If I sit there and not drink anything. Can I check the book out?" "No you'll have to buy it." Talked to manager. I was friendly and soft. "I am a traveller for work, I always frequent coffee shops and book stores. I really like this place, it's very pretty." "Awesome!" "But I've never seen a policy such as this, about not being able to check out books without buying them." "Yeah it's there for a reason, because" "Yeah she told me, to not spill coffee on it, but I did ask if I can check the book out over there without a drink." "Yeah it's policy though, it is what it is" and shrugged me off. It pains me to give a coffee shops and a book store a negative review. But this is ridiculous, even the worst chain bookstores allow you to check books before buying them. Let alone a literal coffee shops / bookstores. Edit: Responding to the manager - the above is literally exactly how the conversation went. At no point did I say he was rude or not calm. No shaming, just the truth. My wife was even on the phone and heard the conversation. I started by complimenting the place, he was happy. I then told him about that policy and he turned cold, explained it verbatim as I said. Then shrugged me off. You can tell by how defensive he is that something is off. This a 1 star for the policy, not for the interaction. And the interaction did go verbatim as I mentioned. He was calm and polite, but he did shrug me off coldly at the end when I critiqued the policy. Honesty is honesty. And the response shows you the attitude at the end of the day. He did not offer a correction to how the conversation went, just tried to gaslight me with "public shaming of a small business" part and mentioned his calm demeanor, which I did not criticize.
