My husband brought me here and what a wonderful experience! The dishes were made with high-quality, fresh ingredients, and the flavors were truly exceptional. I especially loved the small plates — beautifully presented and amazing quality for the price. I ordered the schnitzel and WOW! One of the best I’ve had in the States since visiting Europe. The sauce and side salad really elevate the dish, definitely their signature touch. Amazing desserts. I do not think this place is expensive at all. It was a little cold inside, but overall the ambiance was lovely, and the customer service was excellent. Highly recommend!
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. TD&S serves consistently good food, with some must-have staples (schnitzel, beef cheek croquettes, etc.) and a rotating, inventive seasonal menu. They offer charcuterie spreads, small plates, and larger plates - great for sharing. They have a great happy hour too. The wine list is exceptional - they care deeply about wine and it shows. The patio is lovely, but the interior is very cozy as well. And of course, excellent service.
Such an awesome find! Bf and I randomly decided to go here when we were in the area and wowza! Love that they have a seasonal menu and they had a good array of vegetarian options which made me so happy! Bf got the schnitzel, I got the zucchini risotto. We both loved our dishes and we also split a cheese and the chickpea eggplant dip - 10/10. Will be back and highly recommend you go!
This was a great time during resturant week. Every meal a pleasant surprise. Every bite another adventure. It was a great time.
Cool, eclectic and fun at Table, Donkey and Stick. The food was amazing and the service was superb by Aidan and Joel. We enjoyed the Beets & Blackberries, Fresh Corn Salad, Grilled Peaches and Green Beans, Fried Polenta, Pan Seared Fjord Trout, Pappardelle, Spaghetti Alla Chitarra and the Blueberry Lemon Parfait. All were delicious and well presented. A really good time.
Outstanding experience. The cocktails were delicious with the right amount of liquor and mixers. We got the patio seating and absolutely loved it. Service was great. We got the potato latkes and the fava bean dip. They were both amazing. So glad to have run into this place and I can't wait to return.
Every single dish we had was phenomenal! Nothing crazy but everything was right on point. 👍🏻
Went for a birthday and restaurant week. In at least eleven years, the best Chicago restaurant week experience we’ve ever had. Smart restaurant basically does their regular thing and they did it well. Loved the house made sausage, papardelle, and the simple elegance of the charcuterie course. Drinks very good nice eclectic bar collection. Service a little stretched but team coverage worked in the end. Our second time here now thinking it’ll be more of a regular … we are really jaded and it takes a lot for us to truly enjoy a dinner like this one.
Took me way too long to finally make it here, but I'm glad I did! It’s got that perfect cozy vibe, especially great for Chicago fall and winter. The portions aren’t huge, but the prices totally match up, which is rare these days. Every dish felt unique without being too out there. It really did feel authentic to the alps! If you go, I'd say the pappardelle, burger, and sticky toffee pudding are must-tries. All in all, loved it and would definitely go back.
I've dined here before, but wanted to leave a review after a really lovely anniversary dinner my Husband and I had there this week. Our sever Melissa was fantastic and helped us choose several small plates to share, all of which were incredibly delicious and beautifully plated. Everything was phenomenal; we can't wait to come back!
Our meal was excellent! Forgot to take a picture of our meat (get the coppa) and cheese spread, but the alpine sausage, pork belly and wild rice, trout, and pork schnitzel were all tasty with bigger than expected portions. Service was friendly and the courses were well-timed. Loved the ambience, we were in the back where there was a decent amount of chatter, but not so much that I couldn't hear my husband. Such a unique restaurant in a cozy space. Recommend!
The neighborhood vibe really made it feel cozy sitting outside, and enjoying some beverages like an IPA, followed with an Austrian Wine from 2015. We had the pork belly and peach terrine, the duck liver mousse, and some pretty outstanding cheeses. The stinkier the cheese, the happier I am, not even gonna lie. For the small plates, we did the potato latkes which were crunchy and the beef cheek croquettes, I don’t even know where else you’ll find something like this, these were encased in a flaky shell but so tender and flavorful. The first large plate was the sweet corn risotto, it was okay, mainly because I thought it had too much salt. As for the burger, because as a burger girlie, I had to try it. It really had a distinct taste from the smoked Swiss, horseradish aioli, and the caramelized onions. The dessert was impeccable, the bruleed watermelon was sweet in the right kind of way, and I didnt feel as bad indulging, it felt a little clean ya know. The currant sticky pudding was my favorite and that pudding was dense and had a light savory side to it.
Amazing food and UnbeliEVAble how it's all made in house. Bread and butter alone gives this 5 stars, but then what wine list and selection of shareable and selfishly gobble yp-ables. I took my in laws here and they were safely within their own palates bit also exploring the best of fresh seasonal and creative offering Chicago has. No wonder this place is an institution, and no wonder the contestants updating menu is a wonder
They’ve got great quality food and drinks. Most recently, we got the burger and potato latkes (think of them like elevated tater tots). The burger was really good and was recently featured as one of the top 20 burgers in Chicago. It’s a really nice combination of flavors! Their drink menu is pretty extensive and in the past, when I’ve gotten a cocktail, it’s been great! It feels like a really cozy place - they have a small sidewalk patio, an indoor bar and some seating, and a back patio as well.
Very unique place for me, I loved the drink menu, it was super well put together. The highball I had was made with sage in it, very delicious. The star of the show was dessert. That sweet potato pie with toasted marshmallow was out of this world! I also had the pork schnitzel, it was made so well, perfectly crispy on the outside and very juicy/tender on the inside. The whole meal was just wonderful as was the staff.
Went here for restaurant week Food was delicious, I’m still thinking about the belle saison cheese. Small plates are easily shareable I’m celiac and the staff was knowledgeable and kind, checked in with the chef on various dishes that were safe for gluten free. Example: the Brussels sprouts are gluten free but not celiac safe as they are cooked in shared oil. However, the dishes I consumed were safe for celiac: wild rice pork belly, Slagel steak, beets and pears, and then the risotto for the main Will be returning!
Fantastic dining experience. Don’t let the eclectic word scare you, the Alpine cuisine is great! The charcuterie was delicious and accentuated by the fresh bread. The beets and sunchokes were excellent. I can’t rave enough about the sunchokes especially! The crudo that was recommended was nice and light and paired beautifully with the confit duck, which was fall off the bone and incredibly moist. To top it all off, the drink menu pairs well with the food choices and the old fashioned was great!
The wine menu and appetizers are the stars here, as well as the pork chop. The only miss was the burger but everything else made up for it. Great spot for date night or a group.
Fantastic wine program. Delicious house made charcuterie items. The stars of the show were the entrees or "large plates" as they call them. We had the Arctic Char and the pork schnitzel. The Arctic Char was one of the best balanced dishes I've ever had the pleasure to taste, each ingredient on the plate added layers of complexity and texture. The pork schnitzel was crispy and the capers and arugula wonderfully cut through the richness of the dish without being overpowering. We can't wait to go back!
Melissa was SO HELPFUL in providing recommendations for the small plates for me & my gal pal on our little girls only date. Melissa was a core part of our wonderful experience as first-timers to a Michelin star restaurant. The food was delicious, HIGHLY recommend the beef cheek croquettes, and even the burger wowed me.
Made quick reservations for a 6pm dinner same day. The back patio is perfect. Quiet & tucked in a nice nook outback with heat lamps. The plates and food were excellent. The cheese and charcuterie plate made for a wonderful start. The strawberry salad was amazing. No pictures of the squash soup and beef cheek croquettes. The soup fell a little underneath the course while the beef croquettes were high performers. I did not anticipate such high-quality service and food. I look forward to a return!
The outside looks like it’s closed, but it’s open and very cozy. Bar seating is first come first serve, but reservations were readily available when we checked in the afternoon. I would definitely add this to a good food date night list because the food is delicious, drinks were unique and the staff was friendly and quick. We got the meat small plate (dunno how to pronounce it) and steak with brioche dessert.
Super great spot. Fab natural wine list, great food options from small plates to larger shareable plates and a super interesting charcuterie and cheese list. The schnitzel and latkes are ace. You should visit soon.
Staff was very friendly. We had a table on the back patio and really enjoyed the ambience. I ordered the schnitzel and it was delicious. We also ordered the potato latkes with horseradish aioli. The latkes had a really good crisp to them and reheated well the next day. We wanted dessert too, but were so satisfied from our main course that we decided not to. Overall, great experience!
Fantastic find for European delights. Great back patio and nice bar too. We dined again recently and sat at the three seats Chef's Table at the side of the bar. Nice spot to watch the action tucked in this space. Highly recommend.
Went here during Chicago Restaurant Week - absolutely magical. Welcomed to an intimate, candle-lit atmosphere, we sat by the back wall which was lined with large windows. Since it was the dead of winter it threatened to be quite chilly. We were delighted when our server brought us two thick blankets to keep on our laps during the meal! Cozy to the max. We ate several courses, including: - Smoked trout rillets & blumenkase - Lamb sausage with brussel sprouts kraut, carmelized onion, & sun dried tomato dijon - Duck proscuitto lyonnaise salad with house cured moulard breast, bitter greens house pickle, jammy egg, crème fraiche vinaigrette - Pan-seared whitefish with beurre blanc, braised greens, caper, dill - Braised pork shoulder with tomato, hakurei turnips, braised beans, fermented turnip greens (and some wonderful potato latkes with horseradish aioli) Charming spot for a date night 🕯️
COVID-19 Easter delivery. We ordered TDS for Restaurant Week + Easter dinner and weren’t disappointed. The charcuterie plate was amazing! The jagerwurst and potatoes succulent. And the latkes and carrots delectable. Can’t wait to frequent this establishment once we get vaccinated. So good!!!
I didn't realize they had a patio out back which is super cute. From the front the restaurant looks like it doesn't seat many people. I have only had the pizza there and a few drinks, but the pizza is incredible!! Highly recommend:)) Edit: had the pizza again and took a picture. Still literally my favorite pizza in Chicago. I am obsessed. Also I did go here during the pandemic at one point with a friend during the summer and sat on the back patio. It was lovely. They also were great about the pandemic stuff and I hope they make it through it because they are very sweet people and have great food and drinks!
Can’t wait to come back again. The atmosphere and decor inside made me feel like I was in the mountains. The food was fantastic and I especially liked the charcuterie board we started with. Our server made us laugh a lot and had great recommendations. It feels like a place you go to when you’ve been gone from home a long time and want that warm feeling. Too much? Yeah I’m there
Great experience. Tasty seasonal menu, everything cooked and seasoned to perfection. The star of the show may be a fantastic wine list complimented by very and enthusiastic knowledgeable staff. Never disappoints
No matter what type of meal you come in for (snack, special event, à la carte), it’ll be great, with an excellent assortment of beverages to match up. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable servers will make sure you get exactly what you’re in the mood for. Great patio when weather permits. Noisy front bar area is fun and communal seating back room invites socialization. Love this place !!
lovely Alpine restaurant in the Logan Square Neighbourhood great weight, staff and incredible vibes in this restaurant. The meatballs were amazing super tasty. I also recommend the trout or the duck. We got a little bit of everything so I was excited to try it all and if you have a sweet tooth like me, be sure to get the sticky toffee dessert it was immaculate.
We had the duck mousse, porchetta, beet salad, apple and fennel salad, salmon, and schnitzel. Everything exceeded our expectations and the service was incredible. Pleasant surprise that they had a restaurant week deal. Will definitely be back!
A charming Alpine-inspired spot with an ever changing menu. We sat on the patio which was charming and casual, and they have heaters for when the weather cools down. We started with the cheese plate, the cheese offering was generous but could’ve benefited from more accoutrements. The potato latkes were good but so fried that there was not much potato taste, but the consistency was great. The peach pork belly was the BEST thing we had, absolutely phenomenal and so, so tender. The pork schnitzel was good but by the time it arrived, we were full and didn’t make much progress. Overall the food here was good, with the pork belly being the standout. I would return for a glass of wine and a small bite but may not return for a full meal.
A little funky neighborhood place that really surprises with the food. Excellent selections and preparation. We had the charcuterie platter and it was as good as I have had. The beet salad was good, but did not pack the punch of the other dishes. The schnitzel.and the white asparagus were both very good. The wine list was small. For dessert we had the pea mousse. Give it a try. Service was exceptional. Very helpful people. I wish I lived closer by.
We loved our small plates. The big plates were less impressive, but the dessert was one of the most delicious desserts I’ve ever had. The decor inside was unremarkable as far as I could tell, but I was facing a window. I was pretty turned off by the outside appearance. I’m not really sure what’s going on with that….
Food was great, ambiance was awesome, vibe was cool, service was excellent. Everything was great until we get the check. Price was reasonable, but if you take a closer look at the receipt, they charge what they call "health insurance charge" for about 3% of the check. Looking at it was just ridiculous to be charged a health insurance in an eclectic restaurant. Fair warning to future customers, check your receipt first. It seems like customers are being charged extra for the healty insurance that would cover their employees health care plan. Receipt was funny, but at the same time you'll feel like they charge you wrong 🤦♀️
Came in with a small group for dinner, all the food was good and came out quick. Highly recommend the cheese & charcuterie plate as a starter, brussels sprouts for the small plates, and gnocchi for the large plate category. The trout was good, however a heads up (which we didn’t know) that the fjord trout dish is not a white fish and was very similar to salmon. The service was good but nothing special. The dining room is small with a few additional tables outside (I came in the winter so outdoor dining was not open). In my opinion, because there are boxes stacked around the cabinets and dining room ended up feeling slightly more cramped than cozy/intimate.
Cute little place with some indoor and some outdoor seating, we went here on a Friday evening (with a reservation) and it was quite full. The food was good, we got the beef croquettes which were amazing, the salami chacuterie, the latkes and the carrots. We got the lemon pie for dessert. Everything tasted nice, we also got a bottle of steiger which grew on me with time! The servers were very nice and the ambience was good. My friend described it as an “elevated pub experience” and I think I agree!
went for restaurant week and you can choose between a 3 or 4 course meal — beware it is a lot of food!! the duck pasta is AMAZING. and we really liked the mushroom risotto as well. the eggs served with the beef heart were unnecessary we thought. loved the charcuterie.
Service and atmosphere was great, we sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and helpful! Drinks were delicious, we had the old fashion and the daisy which both tasted fresh and we were left wanting more. We had the potato latkes and brie & pea toast as an app and the potato latkes definitely stole the show where the pea toast wasn’t on par. We both had the burgers which were very good but didn’t blow us away, you definitely need to be a huge fan of the pretzel bun. Would definitely come back and sit at the bar for a cocktail.
This restaurant is different (fancier food) than my usual. The food was prepared well, but not exactly my cup of tea. Charcuterie board: Duck liver mousse and Spanish cheese. Crusty Bread and baguette and pickled beets, veggies and orange.. Some nuts and honey. duck liver mousse: tasted like liver. Surprise! Apple and pear salad: Reminiscent of Cole slaw. Focaccia: I liked this the best, but it is kinda like pizza. Trout: Not bad. Pork shoulder: Super soft and tender. I'm not a super fan of polenta. The pork I feel could've used some more seasoning. Sticky pudding: I liked this a lot actually. A little carrot cake esque. ::=::=::=::=::=:: *Vibe* I expected fancy, but it's hipster. A lot of beards and tattoos. And short bangs and huge glasses. The bartender looks like Gilfoyle from silicon valley. ::=::=::=::=::=:: *Service* Had to wait some time between courses, but no big deal. I would've liked some between course sprucing up of the table. I get it that I'm the messy eater, but if there are chunks of food on the table while we're waiting for dessert, I don't have the equipment to clean it myself.
The charcuterie and cheese board was great and I liked the steak tartare, while my wife did not. However, the seafood stew was a complete miss other than the presentation. The shrimp and mussles were good but the broth was awful to the point I could not eat any of it. The dessert was also a miss in my eyes. The servers were extremely friendly and on Tuesday they have a great wine/champagne deal. Further the ambience is nice.
Although I loved the atmosphere and friendly staff, the food unfortunately failed to meet my expectations. My girlfriend and I dined for Restaurant Week 2020 and found that the duck liver mousse was the only item we truly enjoyed. Otherwise, the brussel sprouts were pretty bland, the orchietti was texturally superb but tasted heavily of barbecue sauce (?), and the porchetta was not especially juicy. Sorry to say that I likely won't return.
The sausage was fine, but the burger was great. It was juicy and tender. The service was excellent, and the staff was so lovely.
Brought my family here from out of town this past Saturday. We were seated at the table on the left of the door. Right away we noticed how cold it was at our table, not only from the door opening without any secondary protection, but also from the patio doors which had been duct taped shut for heat sealing ? Multiple people at our table & at other tables were wearing winter coats while seated to have dinner, so we asked if they could turn the heat up. Our server kindly replied no problem and that they likely did not have it very high anyway (she was wearing a sweatshirt). The temperature did mildly improve, but no one was warm enough to remove their jackets. The food was good, nothing too inventive, and they needed to come back twice for things on the menu that were not available. In general, nobody at the table could stop talking about how cold they were, which is the last thing I’d expect to have to worry about when making a reservation. With so many other amazing options in Chicago, this one is a skip.
I used to love this place. I took a date recently and was the worst experience. The waiter was rushing us out the entire time. The drinks are good but if you're looking for a good meal and a pleasant dining experience go elsewhere. The back room is too loud and the air conditioning blows directly on.
No. Just no. This restaurant was filthy! Look up at the lights or on the shelves and furniture. So dirty. The staff…way too casual. The food was nothing reflective of the price we paid. Serving sizes were adequate. Though we ordered a number of plates, small and large, non of them were presented as beautifully as the images online. First time in Chicago and was excited to try a local spot. Totally disappointed.
Food was alright at best. Edible but not gourmet by any means. The waiter was covered in tattoos, high and clearly had not showered. I can’t believe Michelin gave this place their stamp of approval
We had a very uncomfortable experience at Table, Donkey and Stick in Logan Square. We had an 8:00 p.m. reservation on Saturday12/27/25. We arrived early around 6:50 p.m. and politely asked the host if there was any walk-in availability. His response was rude and dismissive, stating we could not be seated until 8:00 p.m. The interaction immediately made my husband uncomfortable, so we left. While in the car, I checked OpenTable and saw a 7:15 p.m. reservation open, which I booked. We returned to the restaurant at about 7:10 p.m. and showed the host the confirmed reservation on my phone. Despite this, he again said we could not be seated until 8:00 p.m. When I asked why a 7:15 reservation was available if it could not be honored, I asked to speak with a manager. While I was calmly explaining the situation, the host interrupted and claimed that we had arrived “two hours early.” That statement was not true, we were approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes early, not two hours. The manager then asked the host to step away. By that point, the experience had already left a negative impression. As a Latina family of four, the interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, and because of how we were treated, we chose not to dine there. My husband was already turned off by the interaction, and we did not feel comfortable staying. Based on this experience, I do not recommend this restaurant. Clear communication, accuracy, and basic courtesy should be expected when honoring reservations.
