A place where hospitality is a must! It's definitely worth a try because the food is delicious, but what struck me most was the owners' hospitality. It's practically a restaurant inside a house... it's like eating at grandma's house!! Very unique and, of course, very homely! The lady who served us was incredibly kind and, in addition to showing us around the kitchen with a huge stove where they cooked food just like in the olden days, she even offered us coffee! (After we arrived for dinner at 2 PM, just before they closed, it was the only place that welcomed us!) It's definitely worth a try!
I'm happy to share this review. We dropped in by chance, unfamiliar, after a night in the area. We ate so much, the portions were huge and delicious. We took the owner's advice. The local antipasti included mixed starters, minced meat with parmesan, fantastic eggplant, cured meats, peppers, and bagna cauda, and more I can't remember. The second course was the fritto misto. FABULOUS. Yes, of course, the place is a little dated. It's a grandmother's house that hasn't been renovated since 1911. The price was higher than average, but that's forgivable. Will we be back? Absolutely.
Pranzo Fantastico. Come come al solito abbiamo mangiato come vedere. Il fritto misto era eccezionale, caldo e gustoso. Personale molto gentile e molto disponibile. Torneremo presto
A true village trattoria, excellent food, and a lovely lady serving tables. If you're not looking for luxury, you'll be truly amazed by the quality.
Too little... What???? The quantity... 😭😭😭 But why is good food always counted and rationed?!?! Yes, I'm talking about Maria's famous fritto misto, prepared and fried on the spot and that's the great wonder, but... but... it was very little, I wanted more and more and then... okay, I'll stop! If you haven't figured it out yet, the QUALITY is 100, the quantity is sufficient, that is, it's enough to feed the little bellies of the gentlemen who are now used to having a baked apple for dinner in the evening 😅 Okay, jokes aside, everything is delicious, even the appetizers, but it's really a shame to have to threaten death for that last tiny piece of sausage 😭 We'll be back, but this time we'll order a double portion, come hell or high water!!!! If you liked my review, give it a like 🤩
The restaurant l'Allegria, feels like entering an old lady's house, we ate 4 appetizers: veal with tuna sauce, Russian salad, mixed cold cuts, raw meat and cotechino with puree, first plin with roast sauce (perhaps the best I've eaten so far) taglioni with porcini mushrooms, both pasta dishes homemade and really good, second mixed fried fish, still a bit expensive, we spent 40 euros each, but I will return especially for the plin and the mixed fried fish.
Siamo andati per mangiare il fritto misto alla piemontese, ci hanno fatto passare per la cucina per accedere alla sala da pranzo, tutto il locale è trasandato, vecchio, lasciando perdere il gusto per…
We had lunch on Boxing Day. We paid a disproportionate amount for what we ate à la carte without a written menu. The appetizers were fairly subpar, especially the veal with tuna sauce, the first courses were unremarkable, and the fritto misto was expensive and lacking in meat. The idea of a traditional country trattoria has been lost, something this restaurant could actually cultivate. However, you can't expect the best while offering the bare minimum.
We returned after a while and weren't very satisfied. We don't know what changed, probably the chefs, but in our opinion it was better before. It's a shame, the place is very pleasant.
I'll start with one assumption: it's a place I'd return to. That said, the atmosphere is at least as it was 50 years ago, the service is friendly and efficient enough, despite its distance from the expectations or standards a certain TV show might have instilled in the public's minds. The food is good and homey, though not exceptional. The value for money (including everything: local service, etc.) isn't great, but it is! I left with a full stomach, satisfied and happy, despite any limitations the place may have. The Piedmontese fritto misto was well-portioned (there were two of us), preceded by four appetizers, and accompanied by a very honest house wine that tasted good. A place to eat if you're not looking for a Michelin-starred atmosphere but want to enjoy some peaceful company.
A family-friendly atmosphere where I gladly return. Friendly and welcoming every time. We had an appetizer of Russian salad, peppers with anchovies, and raw meat for €11 each (€22 total). Two tagliolini with mushrooms for €11.50 (really excellent). Water, two small glasses of wine, a cover charge, and two bunet (a typical Italian dish). The bunet was really bad. It tasted strongly of egg, and we didn't feel well that evening. Total €63, which seems like too much to me.
The appetizers were a sampling, nothing special—the right adjective is acceptable. The first courses were the same, and the mixed fried fish arrived cold and with the sausage undercooked. The whole thing was saved by the attentive and friendly service, but it was too much for €45 per person. Anyway, it went.
I'm sorry, but this restaurant is no longer up to date. The menu can't be explained, it needs to be displayed. At a time like this, you can't ask me, right? You have a Green Pass, you have to check it. And then we'll look at the portions. The appetizer was decidedly inadequate. Raw meat with vinegar? But? The mixed fried fish was very well done in terms of cooking and breading, but the minimum required in terms of variety and price. It could have been better. However, the offer of limoncello while you're paying and wearing a coat is in line with the times. A sad habit common in many places. No, I won't be returning.
Boxing Day Lunch After years we return to this place at the express request of my sister-in-law (even though we promised ourselves that we would never go there again). We find the same stale rooms in need of repainting, cold because they are heated by a wood stove and with the head of a stuffed wild boar with sad Christmas balls attached as decorations. The menu is unchanged: as a first appetizer they serve us raw ham and pineapple (in the middle of winter!) and then anaemic Russian salad, veal with tuna sauce worthy of a hypermarket delicatessen counter (the round has the same cooking point as a roast), a spoonful of acceptable raw meat and a decent cotechino with good mashed potatoes (the best course of this lunch). The first courses follow, with a choice between Tajarin, we take them with mushrooms (frozen) or agnolotti (stewed). For the second course, half of the guests chose the mixed fried food: Milanese, brains, sausage, artichokes, courgettes, aubergines, amaretti, apples, semolina… well, let's say that it could have been better; nine pieces are definitely too few Let's move on to the desserts: panna cotta, crème caramel, bônet… just enough. To sum up: tradition does not always rhyme with quality. It's time that the menu was written down with the prices clearly visible (to avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the meal) and the bill was displayed in an appropriate manner and not on a notepad. Absolutely unfavourable price-quality ratio Oh, I forgot, if by chance you need to pee, you'll have to go through the kitchen: blessed HACCP!
Purtroppo l’esperienza è stata pessima: antipasti in porzioni miserrime (due fette di vitello tonnato o un cucchiaio di carne cruda) come i primi. I ravioli erano con un ripieno pessimo, con una past…
A disgrace! We waited an hour between courses. The mixed fried fish was limp, evidently made that morning and reheated in the microwave. The Russian salad was sorrel. Pity!
We're not. Tourists and their wallets are treated "specially" compared to local restaurants. I usually overlook this rather than leave a negative review, but here I just can't. The place is a shack (a family home) that hasn't been renovated since 1911. Menus are nonexistent, prices are announced verbally and double when you add them up (for example, an appetizer is listed as €3 but becomes €6 when you add them up). Four of us went, and for €171, we got a bottle of wine, three slices of eggplant, roughly 200 grams of raw beef, six slices of cotechino (two slices per portion on a spoonful of puree), four amaretti biscuits, three balls of brains, three slices of apple, courgettes and artichokes (a modest quantity), and two first courses. They probably didn't spend even €20 on raw materials, they don't pay rent, they're completely innovatory in their facilities or their dishes, and they're family-run. The only thing that "justifies" the outrageous price increase is the fact that they mistook us for tourists. A tip for the waiter: saying that the prosciutto you use to make your "magnificent" prosciutto and pineapple (truly Piedmontese!!!) is cut by you because you buy "the big one" makes you look ridiculous. Buying whole cured meats is standard practice for any restaurant. If you want to present a special dish, prepare a special dish. Such an ordinary dish, presented so pompously, can only arouse feelings of ridicule. It's a good business while it lasts. Highly discouraged. I wanted to post the receipt, but... Guess what? What crafty people...
