This is a great little place located near the far end of Avenida de Anclote (where you will find a number of good restaurants catering to tourists). Very welcoming staff and all the attention you could need for the duration of your meal. My wife and I ate at the Chef’s Counter and had a front row view of all the action in the kitchen. The chefs are super talented and happy to chat when they’re not making culinary magic. Despite the frenzy in the kitchen they always found a few choice moments to talk to us, variously explaining the ingredients they were cooking with or asking us about our experiences visiting the area. Although not on the menu we were offered and accepted a tasting menu - a large selection of smaller portioned menu highlights. There were no disappointments but (as is typical for the region) seafood was the star. That said, the Short Rib Rolls were outstanding. There's a well curated wine list with some solid choices from Mexico. Also... the restaurant is not located on the water and does not offer any outdoor seating. Settle in and enjoy a quiet meal prepared with local ingredients by talented chefs.

Always has been the best food in Punta Mita, however now has the best location too! Hector’s Kitchen maintains its casual fine dining approach with creative, fresh, and delicious dishes. Try a bunch of starters, enjoy only an entree or go all out with a tasting menu…you will not be disappointed. Thanks to Cesar and Wendy for taking care of us tonight! And to Job and Ivan for sharing a bit of the history that makes Hector’s Kitchen so special. We will be back!!

Wife and I enjoyed a great dinner here. There was no alcohol because it was elections. Not as many people in the restaurant because of that. We ordered a wrapped short rib, raw seafood tostada and pork belly taco for appetizers. I loved the short rib. My wife likes the tostada. For entrees my wife got the short rib and I ordered the grilled octopus. They subbed out the mashed potatoes on the octopus for cauliflower. They asked if I wanted it purée or grilled then brought me both! Service was super attentive, clean restaurant and a great environment. Great spot with local ownership. Check it out.

The most exquisite dining experience in Riviera Nayarit requires venturing outside the luxury resorts to Hector’s Kitchen, a lovely restaurant centrally located in the town of Punta de Mita that combines authentic flavors of Mexico with worldly sophistication. Award-winning Chef Héctor Leyva transforms quality, locally sourced ingredients into distinctly Mexican culinary masterpieces that so very quickly disappear from the plate and, yet, leave lasting satisfaction. Start your evening with some of Hector’s elegant and refreshing cocktails—we recommend the Mita Fizz and Nayar Tiki. While enjoying our first of several cocktails, we ordered two flavorful appetizers: Kataifi Shrimp, succulent jumbo shrimp wrapped in crunchy pastry drizzled with a sweet pineapple sauce, and Short Rib Rolls which features tasty ribs drenched in curry sauce, topped with cashews and apple and daikon slaw. The varied textures of the tender and crunchy ingredients and the combinations of sweet and savory, create delightful culinary juxtapositions. Oaxaca, the chef’s home state, is known for its rich culinary traditions and its equally rich, often cocoa-infused, molés. You simply must order at least one signature molé entrée at Hector’s Kitchen; we ordered two: Duck Magret and Pork Belly Confit. The meat was perfectly cooked and served with decadent dark sweet and spicy sauces. The meal ended with a dessert grand finale—Oaxacan Chocolate Mousse—a chocolate shell shaped like a cocoa pod which cracked open to reveal a delicious chocolate and raspberry mousse. The staff at Hector’s Kitchen was very friendly and the service, prompt and attentive. The restaurant features an open kitchen which enhances your dining experience, allowing you to watch the chef, and his team, work their magic. Chef Héctor Leyva's desire to share his gift for good food is not only seen in the fantastic meals he delivers, but also, in the variety of experiences that Hector's Kitchen offers, including cooking classes and market tours in English or Spanish.

Every dish is a work of art, with a similar level of presentation as Tuna Blanca down the street but cheaper (no beachfront dining though). The interior is modern, clean, and air conditioned. Best churros in town - perfectly crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, with ice cream, caramelized figs, and chocolate mousse.

Best food I ever had in Punta Mita! We had the 8 course Menü for a reasonable price. Great service

My family and I (7 people total) took a private market tour and cooking class with the folks from Hectors Kitchen. It was the loveliest experience. First, Ivan took us to the fish market in La Cruz. He explained what fish are the best for certain recipes and we ended up picking out a yellowfin tuna and a red snapper for the class. We took the fish back to Hectors Kitchen to cook the fish and other foods. They had us all set up in a round table style to watch and be involved in the process of cooking a 3 course meal. We were able to be as involved or not involved as we wanted. There was no pressure and that was really nice. They really did a wonderful job and made the 3 hour experience feel like we were a part of their little family for that period of time. It is obvious that they love what they do and have the skills to make some really mouthwatering, authentic Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this class/restaurant to folks visiting the area. Our ages ranged from 25-65 and we all learned things and had a truly memorable experience. 10/10 and would do again!!

You have to love chef owned and ran kitchens. Hector’s is well above the norm in this way. The food is creative, perfectly plated, and delicious. Mexican cuisine with a modern and perfect twist. We recommend highly the short rib appetizer though everything we had was wonderful. Desserts were delicious. The chocolate mousse and pumpkin pie were to die for. Hector himself was on site and approached the table twice to ensure our satisfaction. The room was perfect and had a great ambience with some local art adorning the walls which really brought it together.

We came to the area on a business/ leisure trip. We signed up to take Chef Hectors cooking class. It was AMAZING!! We started at the local fish market where he educated us on the local fishing village and the different types of local fish, how they tend to cook as a meat, etc. Then we traveled to his kitchen where he and staff had a beautiful set up for us ready to learn more and make our own saviche. We enjoyed eating our food and they made some delish drinks as well. If you are able to experience this with Chef Hector and his staff you absolutely should. We enjoyed the restaurant so much during class, we returned a few days later for dinner. It too was delicious, plated beautifully, and great service.

Hector's kitchen is an amazing find. If you are anywhere near Punta Mita, you need to plan on dinner here. We had the Chef's 5 course tasting menu and it was fantastic! They paired wines ( and beers) with it! Loved it!

Delightful meal and great service. Had the octopus which was delicious and tender. I also enjoyed the tortellini appetizer which had a beautiful presentation along with a fresh taste! The desserts were also fabulous but didn’t catch a picture before we all dove in. Note—this restaurant does not have outdoor seating, so if you have COVID concerns you may want to be aware. That being said, they seated everyone at a distance from each other. Enjoyed it!

Hectors Kitchen is absolutely amazing dining experience. We did a cooking class in the pm and then came back for dinner it was so good. Lots to choose from the menu. Everything was on point. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and it was perfection on both occasions. The staff is also incredibly talented. Can’t recommend enough! Just dive in:)

The food and service at Hector’s Kitchen are truly unparalleled. Jonathan, our waiter, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks and gave us phenomenal recommendations. For drinks, we had Las Patronas and a pink tequila drink that were GREAT. The sweet potato tortellini and sashimi are can’t miss appetizers. We had the jumbo shrimp and the short rib with risotto. The short rib was PHENOMENAL. For dessert, we had churros and Hector’s Coffee. Both were great, but don’t miss Hector’s Coffee.. thank us later. Overall, always a phenomenal experience here. We all can’t wait to come back.

Hector’s Kitchen was one of the best parts of our trip. We did a lunchtime cooking class with Hector and his staff, and were so glad we did. Hector seemingly combined a fine dining experience with instruction and tips on how to prepare authentic Mexican dishes using local ingredients, as he showed us how to prepare delicious ceviche tostadas, whole grilled snapper with an adobo sauce, and shrimp tacos. The food was, as you might expect, absolutely incredible. The drinks that we had along with the experience were unbelievably good as well. Tasty, thoughtful, and healthy portions left us incredibly satisfied. Not only was the food delicious, but Hector, as well as his staff couldn’t have been more friendly and inviting. Anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience and some insight into authentic Mexican cuisine should be sure to stop by this amazing restaurant. Thank you again!

An amazing culinary experience. Food was outstanding, drinks delicious, and wine pairing spot on. The grilled octopus was incredible & finish your meal with top notch, smooth tequila. Do not miss this experience if you stay in Punta Mita.

Hector sources the best ingredients and makes outstanding food which is served in an elegant open air setting overlooking pools and the Pacific Ocean. Within Kupuri Beach Club of Punta Mita

Exceptional! Great experience with their cooking class - Ivan took us to the bustling fish market to see the local fisherman bring in their catch and taught us how to select the very freshest dorado, snapper, snook and grouper. Then back to the restaurant for a lesson on how to prepare the catch, make fresh salsa and sauces and eat some of the freshest, most flavorful fish ever…all paired with local cocktails and beer. Truely wonderful hosts & authentic experience .. learned a lot and ate a lot!

We ended up at Hector's kitchen by accident as one of our favorite spots down the street was reserved for an event. What a pleasant surprise. I am thinking now and comparing the food with Venazu at the W and Hector's Kitchen was a lot more memorable, although Venazu wasn't bad at all for being rated #1 on TripAdvisor...but Hector's win. So what stood out, for me was the Mole Coradito sorry if I'm butchering the name. I have fobia of sweet moles and this one was earthy, savory and peppery. Yummy...along with the tender grilled octopus was a bomb. I tried the Amber Jack catch of the day, the Grilled shrimp curry dish and another bomb dish was the short rib tacos 😅 Not to forget the waiters tequila recommendations were spot on as well. Then he suggested a cocktail for after dinner with espresso shot and some tequila liquor that was easily the best ending to the dinner. Good job, we tried 6-7 of the better restaurants in the area and you guys can easily be one of the top choices 👏👏 About the restaurant, no outdoor seating or a view of any sort but you will remember your dinner there. The restaurant is design well and the kitchen and staff are top notch.

If you visit Punta de Mita you must eat at Hector's Kitchen. Everything from the service, to the ambience, to the food is unparalleled. We chose to eat at Hector's Kitchen for dinner during our honeymoon and we were not disappointed. Our server Hop was knowledgable of the menu and personable. The cocktail menu is imaginative and delicious. To start we shared the pork belly tacos (to die for), pulpo, and tortellinis (photo below). For our main courses we had the Short Rib and Camarones respectively- which were both amazing. The mole sauce that comes with the camarones is rich and flavorrful. For dessert we had the Coffe Creme Brule and Guava Tart. One of the best Creme Brule's out there. From start to finish an amazing dining experience and we can't wait to return next time we are in the area!

Incredible experience!!! We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Hector’s and although I had read several great reviews about the restaurant, it thoroughly exceeded our expectations. The service level was outstanding but the food quality from starters to dessert was exceptional. Great Mexican nebbiolo red wine to pair.

We did the cooking demo with Chef Ivan and it was astonishing. Chef Ivan is a true professional: a kind and patient instructor, good at explaining every step, and an incredible chef! The tuna tartare, seared tuna, tortilla soup, and tamale with red snapper were all the best food I’ve ever eaten. And Hector’s has the best mocktail mojito I’ve ever had. So cool to see the whole process, get to walk in the kitchen and talk to a professional chef!!! Highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

This place was absolutely perfect. Fine dining with a local influence. Chef Hector has something really special here. The Duck was phenomenal and the Beef Spare Ribs with the risotto were also expertly prepared. If you’re in Punta Mita and would like a fine dining experience, Chef Hector will not disappoint

We went there for dinner the second night we were in town. I would highly recommend this place. Really good service and the food for my family of five was all delicious. My kids loved the pork belly appetizer and desert

C

They had a vegan appy and delicious vegan green curry for the main which slapped. I was so full by the time the main came that I had to pack up the rest. Also really good cocktails and tried some good mezcal. Only downside is they need to dim their lights down. The decor is quite nice but it’s so bright it feels like you’re in a cafeteria. Five stars nice work

Amazing spot! Highly recommend, get all the apps: truffled sweet potato tortellini, the raw, antojito, and the shirt rib rolls. They are good size portions, all incredible! The grilled octopus entree was the best octopus dish I’ve ever had. Beautiful ambiance, great service, delish cocktails! A must try!

Absolutely the best food in Punta de Mita. Hector's passion for cooking is evident in every dish. The restaurant sources virtually every ingredient locally which gives the most flavorful and authentic Mexican dining experience you could imagine.

Hector’s kitchen is a GEM!!! Absolute must eat. Every dish is made with a complex, beautiful blend of flavors. We would fly back from NY just to eat here again. This restaurant deserves a Michelin.

Hector is passionate for food and an amazing chef. Great atmosphere and refined presentations. The split menu with side by side English and Spanish is great!! A+++ will be back soon.

We have eaten at Hector's several times and always have a fabulous experience. Recently, we had a wedding rehearsal dinner for 14 catered at our home by Hector's. It was absolutely fantastic. They even brought a bar tender. The food was excellent. They left the place super clean and we did not have to do anything!

We dined at 5 restaurants in Punta Mita and Hector’s at Kupuri was by far our favorite. Food is better than any other in the area. Very fun atmosphere with live music and the bubbling pool in the middle of the restaurant. My wife and I split the ceviche, short ribs and shrimp fettuccini. I almost never rate a dish as a 5/5 and all 3 dishes were pretty much there. We also had amazing service with Ivan, Fernando and Oswaldo. Highly recommended!

Amazing & imaginative food at this Punta Mita restaurant- world class & beyond our expectations- staff were attentive & knew the menu well - great cocktails too. Our only gripe was the decor & ambience which felt a little mall like - the outside area could be great with some plants and string lights but felt like an afterthought. Less led lights and more candles inside would of helped make this very special. The great food & service is why you should go.

Best modern Mexican dining experience of my life. I have been visiting Mexico for roughly twenty years, and Punta Mita the last six years, and this is bar none the best Mexican flavors I have tasted. It doesn't hurt that Hector is very personable, or that the service is attentive, or the decor is tasteful, but at the end of the day, the flavor combinations, ingredients, and the presentation, are one of a kind. This is a must try for anyone visiting the Punta Mita vicinity. I look forward to coming back next year!

I just had a wonderful dinner with friends at Hector's Kitchen.  Everything was perfect.  The restaurant is very clean with a pleasant and understated modern decor.  The staff is attentive, thoughtful and very professional. Best of all, the food is excellent.  The Snook catch of the day was mouthwatering, cooked perfectly.  The grilled octopus was tender and flavorable in a house made red mole sauce.  The grilled Romaine appetizer was unusual and delightful. The entire menu is eclectic, all with Mexican flavors and themes while inventively mixed and prepared.  It is not a typical resort dining experience but rather something that could be found in a major city. Highly recommended.

Wow, best meal we’ve had in a while!!! This is by far the best food we’ve tasted in Punta Mita. Went last night and going back again tonight. Amazing flavors. Super friendly staff (Jonathan for the win!) Ridiculous desserts!! Overall top notch and 100% recommended.

Truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a very long time. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The service was extremely attentive and personable and they even surprised us with a personalized dessert/champagne toast to honor our special occasion. While it isn’t right on the beach, the quality of the food and the service more than make up for it. You won’t regret it!

Our group had a reservation for five people. As such we spread our wings to share many menu items from cocktails, to appetizers, to entrees, none of which disappointed. By the time we finished our food we were too full for dessert. We were fully blown away by the tastes, creativity, and presentation of our meal. This review also would not be complete without the highest praise to our waiter, Job, who was an absolute delight with both his knowledge, kindness, and humor. Thank you Hector’s for a fantastic dining experience! A MUST for all travelers in the Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita area.

Excellent food. Glad to find a new place to eat in Punta Mita. Grouper was very fresh and tuna appetizer was excellent. Tortellini appetizer with sweet potato melted in your mouth. Our server Luis was charming. Definitely coming back

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Hector's, including a table-side visit from Hector himself. We also watched him oversee a line cook with an eagle eye. Any chance I can visit a chef-owned restaurant with this attention to detail is great. Oaxacan gourmet cuisine is a bonus.

Phenomenal dinner! We had the beet salad and sweet potato tortellini to start and the pasta of the day and shrimp mole for mains. The dessert was creme brulee and a raspberry chocolate torte. Everything was 5*. If I had to pick one thing it would be the tortellini. Nice job to the cook and wait staff. We will be back on our next trip to punta mita.

We were referred to this restaurant from the concierge of our hotel and we are so happy we listened. The food was absolutely amazing. We chose the 5 course chefs tasting menu, which Hector put together. He came out, introduced himself and asked if there was anything we didnt like or allergies before he started preparing. Flavours were amazing. Catch of the day, Jumbo shrimp, beef short rib , pork belly and desserts were unforgettable. By far the best food offered in Punta Mita.

Ordered everything gluten free on the menu and it was fabulous. Ordered the patron cocktail and it was amazing. Short rib rolls was best thing on the menu!! The service is perfection!!! The manager is a sweetheart.

We’re staying at The Four Seasons and enjoyed the BEST dinner of the week at Hectors Kitchen tonight. I had octopus stuffed with chicarrones served with mole, avocado sauce on a slice of masa quesadilla (I might be wrong here) stuffed with Queso and pork…everything scratch made and absolutely delicious. Followed by short rib served on mushroom creamy risotto…the dish was so tender, light and melt in your mouth, I ate the entire dish. Followed by an incredible dessert of homemade ice cream, white chocolate dessert art filled with cream and sponge. My husband’s dessert was tea-tree ice cream and it was stand-out. Our waiter was fabulous, and recommended a really good big red bottle of Mexican cab blend. Hector was out this evening and his chef de partie delivered and came out afterwards so we could express our gratitude for such a memorable meal. Hands down recommend without hesitation.

This is a beautiful restaurant hidden in a private resort where you have to buy a million dollar villa to access. The restaurant is the only thing here open to the public, so needless to say it's quiet and overlooks a beautiful ocean view. Seriously stunning at sunset. I loved the appetizers and the service was very warm and authentic. We had the root salad and the tlacoyos. For the mains we had the homemade pasta which you can add the catch of the day to. We also ordered a separate catch of the day. (We come from a place with subpar seafood so when given the chance we will always go for the seafood special). The pasta was creamy with lots of vegetables, but unfortunately the sea bass was overcooked. We ordered the apple dessert and it was underwhelming. I would still recommend for the setting and view and the wonderful appetizers. I would just order something besides the sea bass next time. A solid choice for dinner in the area

Heard good things about this place, but it was a letdown for us. The place looked nothing like the photos I saw here. Almost made me wonder if we had gone to the wrong place (we hadn’t). Food was ok but nothing to write home about. Ambiance was not that good. Had kids in the pool when we arrived, there was even some construction work.

R

Arrived at 6:00pm with our party of 13. Took at least 30 minutes to get drinks. After ordering, at 7:00pm we still did not have bread after asking for it 3 times and being ignored. A party of similar size arrived after us and were eating their main courses and we still had no food (or bread.) Finally after talking to the manager, at 7:45 our food arrived. While the food was excellent there is no excuse for this kind of bad service. Hector's is part of a private beach cub and perhaps they cater to owners and guests before "outsiders." If this is the case they should it make it clear that if you are not renting or staying within the confines of the beach club you are not welcome. Honestly the whole experience was totally ridiculous.

S
Stefanie Kwasiborski

Bottom line, don't bother. $150 for 2 horrible cocktails, 1 salad, 2 apps and 1 entree. Ok atmosphere but seriously over hyped. We were wholly disappointed. I simply would not ever go back. 1. Why no review mentions this is beyond me but it's ultra important!! This place is virtually INACCESSIBLE without a car or golfcart. Uber does not work and there are no taxis. A 1.2mile ride in a Luxury rental or something was $20 and we were lucky to have our Airbnb set that up. We were forced to walk home along a busy road because there are no taxis... People looked at us like we had 3 heads but what choice did we have! Luckily it wasn't dark out and we weren't too far off but the walk on the shoulder isn't great. 2. The security makes you show an ID and makes sure you have an open table reservation, even showing my reservation for 5pm they said that the restaurant wasnt even open. How does your security not know the hours? Also the hours on Google are not the hours on Open Table... I don't get it. 3. Cocktails were 0/5, some of the worst we have had at for the price, an insane rip off. Seriously, don't bother or order 1 before committing $25 to more... 4. Food was maybe a 3/5. Nothing incredible, the beet salad may have been the best thing. Mushroom tamal was bland, crispy shrimp was ok, Arroz main with pork belly was ok but the pork was burnt, not charred but straight up fried to a crisp, Arroz/risotto was Rich and seasoned well 5. Atmosphere: 2/5. Beautiful location overlooking the ocean but expect a lot of "ugly Americans" (I am American) it's part of a beach club which wasn't super clear so there were a ton of kids screaming, owners dogs roaming about the restaurant and no joke, kids playing in the center water feature/fountain of the restaurant like it's a paddling pool, throwing rocks, splashing. Did adult parents reprimand them? NO, they instead had them posing for photos while people are at a nice restaurant eating less than a foot away.. Insane 6. The women's locker room which is the bathroom for the restaurant was missing an entire toilet seat on 1 of the 2 toilets

S
Sheldon E

Food is par. Service is mediocre, management is terrible. Manager & staff don’t know how to use a credit card machine, or Apple Pay. They should hire a 15 year old that could manage better. Save time and over priced food to go anywhere that’s better.
