We went for a Cinco de Mayo luncheon. We decided to sit inside it was quiet, compared to the outdoor seating. It took awhile to get someone to take our order. Ordered the Elote appetizer and the Carnitas quesadillas with rice and beans. The food was really delicious! Which made up for the slow service. Will give them another try.
We had lunch on the Thursday before July 4th. Uncrowded. Very nice. Healthy portions. Three margaritas. Tab was $100 for 2. Staff reduced the level of the music when we asked. Thanks!
There is a couple things you need to know going in here... 1st is they have fantastic fresh margarita with pineapple and Serrano pepper that is unlike any other - the Bad Hombre. It's even better when you substitute mezcal. You should also know that they cook their al pastor traditionally and if you walk really slow down the hallway and peek into the kitchen you can see it cooking on the spit in the back, its so amazing and delicious. Recommend.
That place is amazing, clean, food service. Food is delicious, & They have live 🎶 music
Tanya and Summer made me and my Fiancés first time here such a memorable and wholesome experience! The food was absolutely amazing. Like your being transported into Mexico, but at the same time your mom is cooking for you. I’d give it 10 stars if I could. Just come for Taco Tuesday and you’ll understand what I’m babbling on about!
Very delicious, i enjoyed every meal. Our hostess, Danielle, was very helpful and kind, really enjoyed her service!
This is a “fancy” Mexican place but with that said, it was delicious. I have a family of four and we got the chips and salsa (yea, you have to pay for them unfortunately), the green chorizo queso fundido thing, Birria tacos plate, ceviche and a kids taco. The green chorizo thing was excellent. The salsa was spicy and smokey. I generally judge my Mexican spots by their salsa and this stuff was good. Everything was so good. Would highly recommend. Didn’t get to do the hibachi style service but not mad about it. The only thing I would say was their beans were a bit bland. Maybe that was just the beans they served for the kids plate? But was a little let down by the lack of flavor in them. It was the only thing that lacked flavor.
We showed up with a group of 5 and were seated right away. We saw they were having live music outside and asked if we could be seated out there instead. They were very accommodating and quickly set up a spot for us outside. They brought the table water and took our drink order. The margaritas were recommended and the table ordered 3 different flavors, and nobody was disappointed. I ordered a Felipe taco and a chili relleno taco, the Felipe had rib eye steak in it and was tender and delicious, the chili relleno was just that and had great flavor as well. To wrap it up they brought out the tequila sampler tray where we could pick from a large selection of tequila, we ended up with the Don Julio which was a nice choice. Inside it looks like they do some kind of teppanyaki, we will have to give that a try next time, but being suckers for live music we couldn't miss out on the entertainment. Overall a great find for opening Google maps and looking for restaurants near me feature. Always nice when you find a gem.
Volcano tacos and heradura tequila. Food was incredible and drink good as well. Best place ive eaten in a while!
Oh man! Went out with the wifey and we had a good time. We had the Plancha Dining experience and it was great. Similar to having the tepanyaki grill dinner at benihana. I had the pork the pork loin entre and she had the skirt steak entre. It was delicious. We had a couple of cocktails and those were good too! 🤙🏼
Mexican with a modern twist. Authentic Mexican restaurants don’t charge for their chips & salsa (imo) Overall: I have Been here for lunch and brunch. Have not had a dish I dislike. They have $21 bottomless mimosas & tequila tasting for less than $40. They always have someone proving live entertainment on the patio. Usually a beautiful man or woman singing chill songs. Love that. They also have grills! Only thing I haven’t tried but it looks so fun and private. The only issue I’ve had here is with the service, they have helpful workers but I find having to ask the bus boy or tracking down my waiter to order something small I’m missing with my dish. Good practice is to have the server come after the food is served, maybe even give a couple of minutes to take it all in. OR even better, offer things. I love when servers do that. You know more about the menu than I do.. offer certain salsa, drinks, lime, chips etc. anticipate your clients needs. This time we ordered off the Brunch Menu. we had the chips and Guac. 9/10. Chips were salty but guac was delicious. Elote Asado 7/10, authentic smokey flavor but was dry. Maybe if they toss it all in the cheese and chipotle ? For entree I got the Salmon Avocado tostadas which were delicious! 10/10. Make sure to ask for a spicy sauce, they gave me an orange habanero sauce that had a kick. SO good. My friend ordered a quesadilla which had extra cheese. Thats always a 10 in my book. Overall I recommend. I think the extra $$ is worth it, it’s not unreasonable. Lots of flavors to try (& thats coming from me who eats mexican food on the regular) & the drinks 10/10. Make sure to check out their menu before you go and make a reservation!
Good food, good service the cocktails were good for the most part. I tried the -Glazed salmon it was good, healthy and tasty but I wish It came with more veggies or something on the side i was still hungry after. -stake/beef Alambre it was pretty good and it'll fills you up. -stake nachos they were large portion and good as well -corn dish was probably my favorite appetizer -Flan was creamy and a good way to seal the deal . I would definitely recommend it. Prices were not cheap but it's not your typical hole in the wall mexican restaurant, it has a modern, younger vibe to it Plenty of parking.
Made reservations night before for 8pm Saturday. Daisy was our server and Santiago was our chief tonight; both of them are who you want. Seasoned, respectful, all around great individuals. We did the plantcha table. Where they cook your food in front of you. Included in this option is a starter (soup or salad) ALWAYS go with the soup, fried Mexican rice, and main. We did the pork and skirt steak. We added and you should too the fried cheese on any and all your dishes. My wife is picky and can't do any spice above pepper, I'm the opposite. She and I could not get enough of our food. They are open to food accommodations so don't be afraid to ask for what you want. They also have kid options. Apparently have Sunday brunch with unlimited mimosas. Taco Tuesday on the plancha but first come first serve and wine Wednesday where you can get bottles 1/2 off. Worth every penny and more!
The Fideo soup was delicious 10/10. I highly recommend the Diablito Shrimp as a starter, it had the right amount of garlic and spices. Chef Joseph was great and very friendly, as well as Summer, she was very attentive the entire time and made sure we didn’t need anything. Great experience :)
This is hands down one of the best gourmet tacos I’ve ever had! The steak was cooked perfect and the tortillas were incredible. The environment is extremely clean and welcoming. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately with a smile and welcome. This is definitely my new go to place for Mexican food!
I had an incredible experience at this restaurant! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and excellent service. The waiter, Marilyn, was attentive, friendly, and really made us feel special throughout our meal. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The music added a lovely atmosphere to the whole evening, creating the perfect backdrop for a great time. I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Highly recommend!
This modern Mexican food was really good. Portion was decent and prices were really good. Loved the atmosphere!
Taco Tuesday was so much fun! Think Benihana or Matsu but with fresh, flavorful and affordable tacos and quesadillas! Our chef Santiago was great! So was the rest of the staff! Friendly, accommodating and seemed genuinely happy to be at work! I ordered the chicken, carne asada and carnitas quesadillas. They were all delicious but, the chicken in my opinion was the best! I had 4 total and walked out of there properly full. The atmosphere was lively and fun! This place is so great and I can't wait to go back and try some of their other menu items!
We recently had the pleasure of dining at Descanso Restaurant in Costa Mesa with the team, and it was an unforgettable experience. This place is a must-visit for anyone looking for a lively and authentic Mexican dining adventure! The unique concept of cooking on a plancha right in front of you adds an exciting touch to the meal. We tried a variety of items from the menu, and everything was exceptional. The tacos, quesadillas, Mexican fried rice, and the array of salsas were not just delicious but also beautifully presented. The freshness of the ingredients and the bold, authentic flavors really stood out. What made our experience even more enjoyable was the staff. They were incredibly nice and helpful, making sure our night was fun and memorable. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing. Whether you’re looking for a fun night out with friends or a unique dining experience, Descanso is the place to go. Highly recommend!
The happy hour here is amazing. The service is always fantastic, the drink refills often, and great value for food on the happy hour menu.
The food was amazing. I had the carne asada. Steak was very tender and flavorful. The apps were really good and the chips are addictive. Great restaurant. Definitely recommend to have a meal here. I advise you to come hungry
Descanso was definitely a different type of dining, or should I say a new experience for me. We went in for LA Plancha dinner which is a multi course meal cooked for you at your table. You start off with a soup or salad, fried rice and your entree. I chose the skirt steak, my mom had the Chile relleno and my grandma had Pollo Maya. I also had the cucumber y Sal margarita. Every dish had so much flavors, I cannot wait to go back. The steak was nice and juicy. I had them top it off with a layer of cooked cheese that just melted on top of the steak. It was amazing. The staff from start to finish were very attentive. If you want a great experience for your money's worth this is it. Check out their website for weekly specials. They even have taco Tuesdays.
I went to this restaurant with a group of ladies to celebrate my friends birthday at one of the cooking tables. The service was outstanding and the server was very attentive. The chef created quite a performance for us while he cooked our food. It’s definitely an entertainment experience. I ordered Chile Riano and it was delicious
My daughter and I had the absolute best Mother's Day brunch at Descanso. Service: Kudos to the entire Team Descano. The nice and pleasant manager, Shay gave out roses to moms, which was an unexpected special moment. The GM, Kevin and the entire host and server team headed by Miguel provided top tier service. Food: Exceptionally delicious. Item 1: Plato De Quesadilla, (Two Open Faced Cheese Quesadillas with Tres Quesos, Salsa Verde, Cilantro and Cotija Cheese on a Flour Tortilla. Served with Mexican Fried Rice and Refried Pinto Beans. Item 2: FRANCESA TOAST: Mexican Style French Toast Made with Traditional Mexican Sweet Cornbread and topped with Cinnamon Crema, Strawberries, Blackberries and Raspberries. Descanso is an excellent combination of traditional Mexican food with a modern flair, that is unique and yummy.
This is one of our go to spots for Mexican food in Costa Mesa! Always a nicer, more upscale experience with a non-traditional menu. I always get the steak Alambre, which is almost like a premixed Philly cheesesteak version of a steak fajita. 100% recommend getting this! As much as I love this restaurant, my largest complaint is about their margaritas. After trying several different varieties and several different types, I will always opt to have a tequila and soda, or a beer instead of the margaritas. The margaritas seem carbonated and leave something to be desired.
This place was amazing! Our server Summer was super helpful and so nice! The ceviche Tigre was 🔥 The Plancha Room was fun and the food was top notch. I recommend the steak and add shrimp. The arroz con leche cheesecake was really good and an amazing play on cheesecake. I can’t wait to go back.
I highly recommend reserving the Plancha Room for dinner. It is quite entertaining and the service is spectacular! From the bartenders, to the servers and the chef you will not regret choosing this restaurant for any special occasion. The Choriqueso Verde appetizer was delicious and the Mango 43 mixed drink is a definite winner. I am looking forward to visiting Descanso again!
If you ask the hostess for Plancha style dining, she'll bring you to the back area for a Benihana style experience with the Mexican food. This includes commentary Mexican fried rice which is delicious. Also includes your choice of soup or salad. The mushroom soup is great but very rich and almost needs to be watered down a bit. The caesar salad is average. Then you must choose an entree to be prepared in front of you. The Alambre dishes are fajitas with cheese blended in and then topped with a fried cheese disc, overall pretty good, but not as amazing as you might think. There are optional side dishes you can buy. The guacamole is excellent. The Elote corn is great. The green queso is great. The Cebollitas green onions are good. The chili relleno taco is good and is stuffed with cheese and corn. The Quesadillas are served open faced, thus the only difference between them and tacos is cheese. However the Quesadillas come with the same delicious fried cheese disc as the Alambre fajitas. Yet the fajitas also have cheese mixed throughout. Nevertheless, the place doesn't seem to like you taking leftovers home as you have to box them yourself. It's an expensive place, and while the food is great, it's no better than other high end Mexican restaurants in the area which are more affordable.
Great food and great drinks! Together with the experience makes for an amazing date day/night. We sat at the taco bar and ordered the carnitas and some sides plus tacos. More than enough food to share and enjoy the experience. Servers, staff and cooks were all friendly and helpful in choosing drinks and food. I can't even explain how good the food is. Every single thing we had was full of flavor and just so well thought out. We loved it and will be coming back!
This is becoming one of my favorite restaurants. Tonight we sat in the bar. Miguel was our server and is exceptional. It is OC restaurant week and they had a date night menu for this evening that was simply amazing! I have posted a photo of our 3 course meal. The chicharrones and chips and appetizer taquitos were the perfect start, for the main course the lobster tail was sweet and delicious and the steak was perfectly between medium and medium rare as we requested. After the delicious ample portions we were greeted with a s'mores cake and also flan. It was definitely easier to sit down at the bar than it was to get up on our way out. It was quite a meal. Descanso did restaurant week right with this incredible 3 course pairing! Well done once again!
We came here to celebrate 3/4ths of our party's birthday. We were in the area at the OC Fair & Event Center for a work event and made a reservation for the Plancha dining. It was all of our first time visiting. We all loved our experience. The food was great. The experience was great, and it was a great place to celebrate birthdays. I was apprehensive because it was my pick, but everyone LOVED their food. It is an upscale artisanal Mexican restaurant. This isn't your local hole in the wall. The pork dish seemed to be everyone's favorite! The service was excellent, the showmanship of the chef was great and the food was really great. My husband was thanking me throughout the meal for picking this place. We are looking forward to our next visit already. Update: We came back 1 year later. Everything was still great. I was happy to recommend it to a co-worker who will be there later tonight.
I have been following this restaurant since the first sample of their food at the Food and Wine Festival four years ago and have dined here several times. The food is always bursting with flavor. My favorite dish is simply the wet burrito with green salsa and I prefer the steak as my protein option. Speaking about the lunch portion, it is a good size to enjoy half in the restaurant and take the other half home for a second meal. Now, it isn't just the food that calls me back, but also the service. I have never had the same server twice, but with each experience I leave feeling like a valued guest. The atmosphere is cozy due to the excellent service and modern setting.
Absolutely wonderful experience at Descanso. The food was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The service was just as impressive, warm and attentive without feeling rushed. A special shout-out to Christian, who truly made the evening exceptional. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!
Best dining experience of all time. A night to remember. Chef Michael is a master cook and artist. The food is beyond amazing. Bartender is awesome. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY !!!
My husband and I really enjoyed this spot. We tried the elote (highly recommend), Chile quiles, churro pancakes, and chamoy martini. We recommend all of it. The atmosphere is nothing exciting, but the service was top notch, and it's very accessible and easy to park. I'm sure we'll be back.
Fabulous restaurant. Great experience, delicious food and good drinks. We went on the day of the death. To our surprise they had mariachis playing during their brunch time. They have a taco bar, regular bar, restaurant sitting and patio sitting as well. Thel also have a multi course meals a la plancha. (reservations required) for this experience. Great service!
It should be a sin to eat the amount of food I was served at this place. We ordered and sat at the bar. Great customer service (shout out to Miguel). We were able to catch the last 20min or so of happy hour so we were excited! I’ve been a few times and have ordered different items and it’s always 10/10! My friend lives in the area and dines ALL THE TIME and says she hasn’t had a “bad meal” yet. Quality food, flavorful food, and a good portion of food for the price! 🤌🏾 Atmosphere is great for any type of celebration, date night, family night, or solo vibes. And parking is easy since it’s in a shopping center. Planning to come back to try the hibachi experience.
WOW. I hardly eat at Mexican restaurants because i find them lack of flavor but this spot is great. Descanso offers more than just a meal; it provides a dining experience that engages all the senses. Whether you're seeking a unique date night, a celebratory gathering, or a flavorful brunch, Descanso delivers with authenticity and flair. Their was music outside and it was lovely. Their food passed my expectations. Reservations are recommended, especially for the plancha dining experience, to ensure a memorable visit
Descanso is one of my new favorite spots in Costa Mesa! It’s a stunning hidden gem that’s perfect for any celebration, brunch or date night! The Fideo Soup is the perfect First Course! This is definitely better than the Caesar Salad. Loved this soup!! Add the Choriqueso Verde appetizer…so amazingly cheesy and packed with flavor!! The presentation had us drooling!! It tasted just as good as it looked!! Mexican flavors served Plancha style! The Plancha dining experience is FIYAH!! Imagine a Modern Taco Stand and a Chef to Table dining experience! Such an unforgettable experience!! So fun and exciting! Loved the bold, authentic flavors!! The Ribeye Steak and Pork Loin Alambre were heavenly! So perfectly cooked and seasoned well! The Picante Trio Margarita Flight (jalapeno was the favorite) and Watermelonrita paired up perfectly with our meal! The service is top notch and the Chef gave quite a performance and was so entertaining! Such an enjoyable dining experience! Exceeded my expectations!! A huge thanks to Daisy, McKenna, Jesus for their excellent hospitality!!
We were brought in by an awesome opportunity Descanso offered with proceeds benefitting the German Shepherd Rescue of OC. My family went last night and we sat at the "taco bar." This is the a la carte version of the plancha experience. Highly recommend! We had a reservation, but their website says you don't need one. I personally would make one as it is limited seating. Food was delicious, service was great, ambiance was fun and lively but still quiet enough for conversation. Great restaurant that we look forward to supporting! Thank you to Descanso for offering this wonderful fundraiser!!
We went here for dinner first while we were visiting family when we got into town and then decided to go back for brunch. The food was all amazing and delicious. Posole and choriqueso are the best! They let you know what to expect, how spicy or the cook on items, and make sure you are okay with it. However everything was just spicy enough and cooked to perfection. The sauces are all especially flavorful. The atmosphere is fun. The drinks are refreshing and strong! Service is outstanding as well. Everyone is so friendly.
Too much artificial sauce added to our food...not authentic Tex Mex, nor is it even good gringo Mex food. Guacamole was fresh but lacking in proper seasonings... no lime either or lemon...overall our meals were not worth the high prices. Nice atmosphere and wait staff though.
Food tasted great!! Luis prepared our meal at a plancha table (think Benihana style table). Manager came to greet us. Service was very good. I was missing that Benihana style show of food preparation at the table (although Luis did am awesome fire display). The asada has a great flavor, even next day. Same goes for the al pastor.
Tonight, we decided to try this restaurant. The concept of having the grill to make the tacos in front of you is very creative. Chips were very good. They have pork skin too, very delicious. The salsa can be better especially the green salsa which tasted like coming from a jar, not homemade. The carnitas taco and mahi mahi taco were best. The steak taco, the meat could be better, not tender enough, was already pre-made. The al pastor taco was pre-made, never tasted the same as the real traditional al pastor that was cut directly for what they call in Mexico el trompo. If you are going to order tacos, order one at a time because the tortillas were not made fresh but pre-heated. They got cold pretty fast. One more thing we noticed on the grill - very greasy, they put too much oil. If you want to stop and experience it yourself, it’s not bad.
Update 8/17/22 My sister was having a birthday and came with some of her friends and parents. I made a reservation since it started with a large party then only 5 showed up. Our server was attentive from the beginning. For starters we ordered their ceviche which was real good. For main course we got their volcano tacos (spicy) but had good flavor, shrimp alambre, and Toro tacos and a steak skillet with potatoes. Food was hot and delicious. The best part was the show for birthday girl with ice cream dessert and drinks. I just ordered an amber and they had some margaritas. It was a very pleasant experience for a first timer. Late lunch on Thursday afternoon with coworkers. Great chips and salsa and waiter was very attentive. Opted for two for two meal which gave us options to select tacos or quesadilla with rice and beans. I ordered their Don chingon taco that was meant to be spicy but wasn't, yet it had good flavor and a mushroom rajas quesadilla that was also ok. The item that stood out most was the salsa and chips- it was smokey. I definitely appreciated the grilled corn with rice. I cannot say I was blown away but definitely hoped that taco had some heat and that they provided salsas with meals. I am eager to try their drinks- they have quite a few including craft beers.
This place is amazing! First I want to say THANK YOU to the staff that let my family and I barrow an actual blanket because it was cold. We sat outside and it was a cold windy mid morning. They also were nice enough to put heaters by us.At first we thought it was a joke (about the blankets) and then they actually brought it out! That was amazing!!! The food was good! Everything was nicely presented and delicious. Nothing was spicy so if you don't like spicy, you're good! They were generous with the chips and salsa too! Probably the only thing that we weren't too crazy about was the concha. The actual concha tasted a bit old but the ice cream was delish. If you go during brunch time, it's better to sit outside. We were seated right away where if we wanted to sit inside it was going to be a 45 min wait. Even though it was cold and windy, the staff made our experience super comfortable and they had a performer that was playing the jams!!! He was awesome!! (Tian Music)
Fun and very pricey. We had a party of eight at the Plancha in addition to the mandatory service charge, no problem, they charged me a 2% surcharge on the food. When I asked about the extra surcharge the server said that was to cover the extra food costs. The food lacked depth, missing final touches like salt and spice. For the money and lack of flavor, would not return. Food looks better than it tastes. The guacamole tasted as if it was made hours earlier, something from El Torito but not a high-end restaurant
We went for dinner, and were able to take advantage of their happy hour menu. Nice selection during happy hour. We ordered the elote, guacamole, taco skillets, tortilla soup, and a watermelon margarita. Food and service were good. Prices were reasonable.
Deliciously Mexican food in the Costa Mesa area. We went here for lunch and had an independent table however there are group seating around an open kitchen area allowing you to have a show of the meal you've ordered. Family friendly there's highchairs available. The only reproach I would have is that there's no indication of the levels of spiciness on the menu, mine was a bit hotter than I expected. Otherwise the food itself is delicious, well presented and reasonably priced.
Descanso Restaurant is right next to Mokkohi Shabu Shabu and The Kebab Shop or The Shops at Mesa Verde. Tons of amply parking and additional spots to visit around the vicinity. Ambience was clean and customer service wasn't too bad. Overall a fun experience and can't wait for them to open up at The Grove in Los Angeles. We had the Clasico Guacamole Hass Avocado, Lime, White Onion, Serrano Chiles, Cilantro, Tomato on the side and Tortilla Chips Crispy Carnitas Skillet Seared Slow Cooked Pork, Pico de Gallo, Pickled Jalapeños, Refried Pinto Beans, Shaved Onion, Serrano Chiles, Micro Cilantro and Corn Tortillas. LOVE this about the restaurant which is a WIN IMO Only fresh, high quality ingredients sourced from local farms. They do not cook with lard and don’t believe in can openers. A majority of their menu is gluten free
Great dinner with good food friends. The staff added to the experience. A big thanks to our ur waitress Sam.
I had a nice date night, food was good. We had a watermelon drink as we don't drink alcoholic cocktails. Waitress was excellent. Happy to say I will go back.
I prefer traditional Mexican home cuisine like Avilas on Placentia or Acapulco on Bristol. Not sure what I ordered, thought it would be like fajitas. Did not care for the presentation at all, veg were all diced up so tiny there was no taste. It was very salty and oily, and the only condiment on the table was more salt! I'm not sure what this place is trying to be, there is a large indoor outdoor bar area, a taco bar, regular seating, then something like tappanyaki cook tables. The atmosphere was very noisy from the bar patrons and I was seated right next to the hallway to the kitchen and restrooms. I think it works better as a bar than a restaurant. We were not able to have a conversation.
Food was delicious. Very cool and fun place to go. Owner very nice and involved, thankfully or we’d still be waiting to cash out. Bartender and server weren’t having their best days…however the food and atmosphere were terrific. Loved all the tacos and the elote and Mexican fried rice were fantastic
First time coming it was not a terrible experience, but just okay. Food was decent. I had the quesadilla it was an open face version basically the size of a small mulitas but with flour tortilla. It was not bad but might be a bit too oily for some. Chips and dip was nice but I can get it at other places for free. I will say it was some what fairly portioned for 5 people. There was more chips than salsa or guacamole but the chips were at least a free refill if you did not know how to proportion you chips and dip. Over all price just felt over priced for somethings. Service was not bad the waitress was very attentive and helpful.
The food didn't taste bad. I was hoping to order the sea bass but they were all out the night we went. I think i was just expecting more of a show like at Tokyo Wako, but all we got was like 3 really huge fires. Service was ok. We didn't get seated until 30mins after our reservation time. I'm Glad I tired it but I'm ok if I never go back, except maybe for brunch.
Good service as always. My wife enjoys the Rellenos tacos. I always have a hard time finding something that's not greasy. Tried the Al Pastor today and was just that, greasy. Felt that they added too much peppers and onions which overpowers the taste of the AL Pastor, the star of the dish. Elotes were delicious as always. Bread pudding good, but a bit dry. Update 5/9/24: tried the torta for lunch and was pretty good, but very messy.
Great presentation for food, service was great, but the flavor just wasn't there for me. we ordered carnitas plate, a Birria barbacoa taco and a Pastor taco. Drinks were decent as well.not very impressed. Although the appetizer, green choriqueso was pretty delicious, the green color was interesting and wasn't able to tell if it was real chorizo or vegan substitute? I will not come back unfortunately.
JUN 2022 - Came back for dinner four years later with friends and it's still 3 stars imo. It was busy so make a reservation - they offer patio dining also. Service was efficient. The food and drinks are okay not great. They charge for chips and salsa, not a lot but the salsa was disappointing, smooth and too spicy. I prefer a chunkier salsa. Lots of better choices for Mexican food out there. NOV 2018- The food was good but it would be nice to have enough light to see what you were eating without having to use your phone light! Service was efficient and decor was nice. The Descanso Margarita had no taste and they did nothing for my birthday even though the host asked if we were celebrating a special occasion when I made the reservation....
Slow or sloppy service at the regular dining side of the restaurant. Took nearly an hour to get all our entrees, and the side dishes were served to the wrong people. Water requests - we had to make 3 to get water for the table, but slow service for all drinks in general. Food - ok, if you want to dine here I recommend the plancha tables. The outdoor patio had the live music, which was played at an enjoyable sound level on the patio, but way too loud inside the restaurant, causing our conversation to be very loud as well, very unpleasant along with the long waits for our dinner, this caused us to have a less than acceptable evening.
The highlight of our night was our server and the Mango crème brûlée. Server was super helpful with recommendations as it was our first time. Unfortunately it wasn’t the chefs best night as I see a lot of reviews state the food is full of flavor, but both of our entrees were flavor less. We had the choriqueso verde that was ok, pozole which was ok, carne asada skillet and hanger steak that were bland. Also had flan and mango crème brûlée that were both delicious. The beans that came with the steak platter were super bland as well. We wanted to come back for the plancha experience but after spending over $130 and not really enjoying the food I’m not sure if we will.
This restaurant sucks i call with time to make my reservation for NYE and everything good a girl answer to me I made it i ask if I need to let deposit she said not i be so specific I want a plancha table and she said perfect see you in NY, today is that day I call for confirm my reservation and ask if I can add 2 persons more and oh surprise they said that girl who answer forget the time that I make my reservation was a 9.30 pm and she made it at 6.30 , so now I'm on my way to los angeles and my surprise i don't have reservation for nowhere for her mistake and the manager was so rude with me and don't give me any solution when he knows was her worker mistake, so I demand a solution right now
When we arrived today, there was a large party taking place, with several guests seated both outside and in the indoor dining area. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of cleanliness...dirty windows and torn bar stools. It felt like the overall upkeep of the restaurant has declined. Although we were the only guests seated at the bar along with the bartender, we placed our drink order immediately and still had not received our drinks after 15 minutes. We were hungry, yet no chips or salsa were offered. We had assumed we arrived during off-hours and expected faster service, but the restaurant appeared to be short-staffed. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially given the visible cleanliness issues throughout the bar, floors, and windows.
