When we walked in we were expecting a long wait. The host sat us immediately! We were very pleased with the environment of this restaurant. Very clean, and they even open some windows to let the beautiful beach air inside. Our food and drinks were ordered and then served to us very quickly! We were amazed by the service of this place. We ordered the Double Smashburger, and the Braised Short Rib. Both were phenomenal. My favorite was the Burger, they mastered that sauce! And The fries...cooked in beef tallow or avocado oil? Anyways we got the garlic parmesan ones and they were delicious. Our server was so kind and personable. Overall we had such an amazing experience!
Wow 🤩!!! This was our first time trying out Jimmy's and we gotta say we were very impressed. We were seated quickly even though it was very busy and once we ordered our food was at our table within 10 minutes. Very impressive! The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, with plenty of space to enjoy together. What really makes it special is the view-it's beautiful and adds so much to the dining experience. We were very pleased with the environment of this restaurant. Very clean, and they even open some windows to let the beautiful beach air inside. The service was excellent-friendly, fast, and attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious. Absolutely loved our meal here! Everything that we have ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We have tried: Grilled local fish sandwich , Classic smash burger , Southern fried chicken and we have also had their delicious milkshakes - highly recommended! The food was fresh and hot, and the portions were surprisingly large. The fish was locally sourced and you can taste the freshness in every bite. The fried chicken was perfection, they serve Mary’s chicken and that’s the best chicken that you can get ( it’s pasture and humanly raised) , our favorite chicken that we get from Whole Foods and Sprouts. It’s a Must Try dish! The burger was delicious and perfectly paired with their secret sauce, yummy 😋! Overall: Jimmy's Famous American Tavern is the perfect spot for a relaxing meal with family and friends! Between the great service, amazing food, and stunning setting, Jimmy's Famous is a place we always look forward to visiting. Highly recommended for a casual yet elevated dining experience. Also they have great happy hour menu, definitely one of the best in town!
Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern is the perfect spot for a relaxing meal with family and friends! The food is absolutely delicious—hearty, flavorful, and served with style. Absolutely loved our meal here! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The burger was juicy and perfectly cooked, paired with a super fresh and colorful side salad. The grilled shrimp tacos were packed with flavor and came with crispy, well-seasoned fries. The kids' mac & cheese with Goldfish crackers was a fun and tasty touch, and the cookie was a sweet bonus! The service was excellent—friendly, fast, and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance was relaxed and family-friendly, with thoughtful touches like crayons and games for the kids. Highly recommended for a casual yet elevated dining experience.
The music isnt too harsh, its a nice warm atmosphere that has been designed very beautifully. I suggest trying the Brussel sprouts and servers are great. Plus the walkways arent jammed so you can move pretty easily if you have a walker. Southern fried chicken was great but the carrots were a little under cooked
This is a really good and affordable place to grab food. The portions are huge (even the happy hour items). This is definitely a place you could share meals and have lovely drinks. I'm still shocked on how much food you get with the happy hour. It's a clean and friendly place not far from the beaches and parks. Love the friendly service and atmosphere.
Great spot to grab a bite or drinks with friends & family. Walked in around 6pm on a Saturday and got seated within 5 mins. The staff and our server were kind and great. Starters came out pretty quickly. The food was amazing. Tried the clam chowder and although it wasn’t my preferred style of clam chowder I found it to still taste good. They made the burger really well and made sure the buns and fries were well done. The swordfish sandwich & garlic fries (well done) were phenomenal. Bread was toasted nicely, the swordfish was perfectly moist and not dry, the sauce they used in the sandwich hit the spot. They made my garlic fries extra crispy and golden-brown to perfection. The poke tostada was ok, it wasn’t too bad. The fish tasted good. The furikake rice cracker with the poke added a nice bite to it with its crispy nature. I just found the poke to not be as cold as I personally prefer it to be. The atmosphere was nice. The interior was pretty nice. Really loved that the design of the tavern allows for air to circulate into the space. It gives the sense of almost eating outside while still having a roof over your head. Huge fan of having a constant cycle of fresh air in any space.
I was not expecting the food to be so good! The food was excellent. Someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. The recipes were on point. Would have given this place 5 stars but our waitress was slow, giving refills. Felt a little left alone. I will be returning soon. 08/12/2025 Since the last visit, I am broken hearted. They have gotten rid of the onion rings and have changed the gravey for the chicken a and waffles. I am so hurt and disappointed. There were other changes, these two really hit hard. Please Jimmy bring bring back the gravy! Please!
I love how amazing the inside is for Jimmy's Famous American Tavern where they served burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other delicious meals! I can cross the restaurant off the bucket list and create new memories in Dana Point!
Excellent selection of beers, loved the locally sourced fish sandwich!
We held our wedding reception here. We booked a private room. The staff was incredibly helpful planning our event all the way up to the day before. We were able to choose several appetizers, main dishes and we also paid for bar service. The night of was perfect. Everything was served hot and it was all delicious. All of our guests commented on how wonderful everything was. We would highly recommend booking with them for your event as well. Loved it!
We were there for a welcome night party for an upcoming wedding. The staff, the food, the atmosphere was absolutely fabulous. The buffet style meal was gluten free with just one dairy item added. There was plenty of room for sitting and socializing.
We had a great experience at Brigs! My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and said it was absolutely delicious. I had the country chicken fried steak — it was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. One little suggestion, maybe replaced the bread with biscuit. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. We’ll definitely be back!
This is a GREAT place to eat. Good food good family atmosphere at affordable prices. Highly recommend DOG FRIENDLY patio.
I am giving it 5 stars for what it is which is a basic American family restaurant. We've eaten here probably 10 times. We get good service and our food is solid. It isn't Mastros but their chili, burgers, fish/chips and breakfast food has always been good for us. If you go in expecting so amazingly unique and fancy restaurants that isn't the right expectations. It is dog friendly and is very large so getting a seat usually isn't a problem. It is old and outdated in there but I kind of like that old family restaurant feel. It is a bit overpriced, but usually things are in the harbor.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, menu offers wide selection. Fish and Chips are outstanding! Large portion, the fish is lightly coated, with a perfect crunch. The garlic seasoned fries remind me of the ones at the Orange County Fair. Yummy. The coleslaw is a great side dish. A lovely place to enjoy a relaxed meal.
We went on a Monday afternoon to checkout happy hour at Jimmy’s. The restaurant was mostly empty and there was no one to great or seat us when we walked in. We had to hunt someone down to attend to us. The location is great and the inside decor is nice. We tried the calamari which was just ok, nothing special. The drinks were also unremarkable but looked nice. They didn’t have a unique flavor. The star of the evening was the cheeseburger which was delicious. If we go again we would order one burger and split it because is was a substantial meal. The service once we were seated was very was good.
Food was on the OK side. Wasn’t in my top 10. I had the French dip which was fatty and full of sinew. Almost like it was pulled off the bone, which left the white sinew sheath. I think that has to do with the prime cut they were using. Atmosphere is awesome and the service is top-notch. Looks like a great place to bring your friends and have a couple of drinks while enjoying the view. Right across from the marina although there is a road in between you and the marina.
My char boiled salmon, veggies, and mashed potatoes tasted like a home cooked meal. Very delicious, I will have lunch here again! The lemon came in a super cute design, and warmed my heart lol. Thanks chef!!
We went for breakfast and it is great! The menu is broad, the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the nap needed afterwards is serious - especially if you’re in vacation mode like we were. Everything could use an update in and around this place in my opinion. It seems clean but it doesn’t feel fresh if that makes sense. The prices are about what you’d expect in CA. The service and food are great.
Jimmy's Famous American Tavern - Dana Point is a high-end restaurant with a great atmosphere and excellent service. However, unfortunately, my first dining experience wasn't that great. First of all, we spontaneously decided to come here so I just quickly reviewed the menu. I decided to have the meatballs or wings and dessert. Unfortunately, the meatballs are only available on Monday. The chicken wings are only on the happy hour menu which is available on weekdays only. Next, we had six adults and a toddler. It was not easy to have a conversation at our big round table because the environment was loud. Also, my pictures did not turn out well because the lighting was a bit too dark. All the videos show and contain family members whom I cannot post in public. If I am wrong don’t take it personally. This is my humble opinion only. Lastly, my husband and I both made a big mistake by having shakes. Because our meal took longer than expected, we finished our drinks before the food arrived and felt full. I barely ate any of my lasagna when it finally came although it looked delicious and was a really generous portion. All in all, our highlight of the night was the shakes. I highly recommend the PB&J flavor. It was outstanding. But it was gigantic. It was twice as large as what you might get at another restaurant.
Food was good, but skimpy on the protein at higher price point. Service was lackluster. Family was in town over the holidays, and we were out and about, feeling peckish. Checked options in the area, and this looked suitable. Arrived for lunch, greeted by a hostess. Seated and provided menus. The 3 adults ordered 1 beer, and 2 cocktails, in addition to the Buffalo Cauliflower and Braised Brussel Sprouts, all very good. 2 kids got burgers off the kids menu, and adults got 3 orders of fish & chips, one with regular fries, one with sweet potato fries, and the third with garlic fries. All the fries were excellent, but the fish was lacking; at about US$26, I would expect more than two pieces of fish (3?), and a little more (albeit good) tarter sauce than the thimble sized ramekin. Service was sparce; we even had to seek server out for refills. Out the door US$221 lighter. Won't return as there is far better at this price point, some of it on or overlooking the water.
Been coming here since they opened. Super bummed about the menu changes and so are a few local friends I’ve dined with. Everything I loved is gone and it makes me sad. I am not impressed with the flavors of some of the menu items such as the dressing on the wedge, the corn in the chowder. I miss the old chowder. Many of their sandwiches come in toasted sourdough. I can see the tuna melt. But a bit redundant on items like the yellowtail sandwich that would taste so much better in a ciabatta. The menu lacks entrée options. Right now it’s short rib, fried chicken and mash, a few more but nothing exiting. There’s a lot of redundancy. It seems like they’re possibly trying to keep an eye on cutting down on ingredients and costs. But once was my go to lunch spot, I will now be visiting much more frequently. hopefully they don’t become just a generic diner type restaurant. This location is an opportunity for creative culinary. I just feel like could bring so much more to the table.
Used to be a regular stop for my family. Pretty high prices these days for food that is just okay. I actually fed my eggs to the dog; they were so dry. We only went to the Brig because it held special memories for my mom and she wanted a new mug. Even she was shocked at the food prices. We could have had a higher quality lunch elsewhere for the same amount of money. Not sure we'll be back.
I've been going to Jimmy's for 12 years. They have a new chef. The new chef took ribs off the menu completely. It's one of the best things they served and they took it off the menu. They had a happy hour Smashburger. It was pure crap. I tried the loaded chips, again, not good. And it wasn't just my opinion, on Monday nights in the fall, Jimmy's is always busy. The place was absolutely empty. I will not be going back, and I am very disappointed 😟
The food was okay, but the service was slow and everything was overpriced. $5.25 for an 8 ounce soda?!?!? The server had no idea I was at my table. Now I understand why RJs cafe was packed and this place was dead.
We came in from out of town hoping to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner, and unfortunately this place completely missed the mark. I’ll start by saying our server was great—friendly, attentive, and clearly doing their best. But everything else was a disaster. We waited over an hour and twenty minutes for our food, and when it finally showed up, it was honestly unacceptable. The stuffing looked and tasted like something straight out of a can—I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. Whoever thought pumpkin soup was a good idea should seriously rethink that decision, because it was flat-out nasty. For a bill that came out to over $200, we expected at least decent food, not something we couldn’t even finish. We even waited for pumpkin pie but ended up leaving right after paying because we were already that disappointed. Terrible food, extremely long wait times, and way overpriced. The only bright spot was our server. Never again.
This really could have been a nice place. The food was EXCELLENT but the service was worse than anywhere I’ve been in a long, long time. We came previously for dinner and the place was rented out for a private event, so they said they would give us 2 $10 coupons for our next visit - alls fair, makes sense. We came back tonight for dinner and after the food, they wouldn’t redeem one of the coupons. They made it an incredibly uncomfortable experience for us, all over $10 for goodness sake. We said fine, we would get a dessert or something to use the second coupon. She put her foot down and refused. We ordered the dessert anyways, and the manager went to the kitchen and cancelled it without telling us! What level of pettiness do you have to have to do that!? We sat there 30 minutes waiting for a dessert that would never come. Not only was it only $10, but she was rude, cancelled our order, took forever to seat us when we first got there, and made us all angry after an otherwise pleasant evening. TEN DOLLARS!? Wow. Never had such a negative experience for a business to save $10. Cheap, cheap, cheap. And mean.
We ate breakfast here and the pries were high. It would have been fine but the food was horrible. I don't remember the last time I had sua terrible breakfast. Sort of hard to make a bad omelet. Stay away!
It's near a beach area so it's a typical tourist food stop. However, the food is not great. It all tasted like prepackaged food. My kids got a hot chocolate and it was $7 but you can taste and smell it was the Swiss Miss package. My egg omelette was mostly veggies and a little bit of eggs, for the price, it should be more egg. My wife's burrito was decent she said but her rice and beans were very disappointing. The beans were definitely canned. I also kept hearing a microwave door open and close with beeping. The staff is really nice but you go to a restaurant for the food and sadly, it was just not good.
The ambiance of the restaurant is quite cozy and casual. Nothing special. The service is great, our server is very well accommodating. My problem with this place is the food. It’s overpriced, less to no seasoning, they put more sides than the actual food you order. Overall, this place is not recommendable.
This is my first ever review -We all agreed the Most disappointing meal we have ever had and for over $20 an entree felt ripped off - zero flavor in both fish and chips and fish tacos - the fish was sour ( definitely not fresh) and left a bad taste - fish was also over battered and greasy - guacamole brown- beans over cooked and flavorless- salad was wilted - tacos soggy and tasted as cooked in rancid oil- table was dirty and the condiment were bottles sticky. Only took one picture of mustard bottle dirt.. if this is what you show your customers what is your kitchen like?
This restaurant robbed us. The food was so terrible and the worst part is it was so expensive. They use absolutely no seasoning when it comes to cooking. The service was great the food was just God awful and expensive for no reason at all. I don't care how close this restaurant is near your hotel save yourself some time and money.
