Karahi Indian Restaurant offers an authentic taste of India with rich flavors, generous portions, and warm hospitality. Every dish is freshly prepared and beautifully presented . The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Highly recommended for anyone who loves genuine Indian cuisine!

We stumbled upon this restaurant while on our walk. It seems like one of those mall family-owned business. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who seemed to be the owner. The food was great and the service was awesome. I definitely recommend it! My only feedback and this might be a NYC thing, do restaurants not believe in soda machines or free refills?

Best food I’ve had in a very long time! Chicken melts in your mouth, flavors are great, owner is so, so kind! Would give 6 stars if I could.

I've been here several times, and the food has tasted perfect every time. The owner and all the staff are friendly, accommodating, and very welcoming. You feel very comfortable! The food came quickly every time and it tasted simply fantastic. Fresh, good quality, with great spices. The prices are surprisingly good and really reasonable for the quality. I've tried many Indian restaurants many times, and this is definitely one of the best! This definitely won't be my last visit here!

While walking outside in the freezing winter weather, we got a sudden craving for some home made indian/pakistani food. We stumbled across this gem luckily. The food was exceptional. It warmed our souls and fully satisfied our cravings. We ordered the daal, the Chana saag and the karahi paneer. It was flavorful, light and not super oily/spicy. The owner was also very attentive and provided us fantastic service. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food and great service, an overall great value! I have been coming to Karahi since it was opened in 2019 and bringing my friends and family here regularly. If you are looking for a home cooked like north Indian food and a true Indian hospitality, you won't be disappointed.

Very lucky to stumble on this restaraunt (via Seamless) by accident. Tasty food, great quality, and steaming hot is always ideal. Future regular, give it a try!

We wanted to find somewhere near 55th street, and Karahi Indian Cuisine looked ideal. On arrival we sat down in a very pleasant and not too noisy restaurant with water at the ready and two colorful menus. I asked if they could do a Madras and the chef said he could make one. It was amazing. They read me perfectly, hot, but not too hot. And the flavour, it was delicious. Real care and original. Maybe a cliche, but certainly the most pleasant and enjoyable madras I've had. Maybe a New York flare? Maybe just authentic. But definitely an excellent meal. As for my colleague, he went for the mixed grill, and that, too was something special, lamb, shrimp, chicken, big chunks and beautifully presented. Luckily for me, my friend doesn't have as large appetite as I so I had some of his chicken and he was stuffed. I'm full too. The portions were really good. And we were asked if we wanted more rice, but even I don't think I could have had anymore. The staff were really friendly and genuinely interested in our enjoyment. We both had Naans, I had a peshwari, and it was lovely. As we were going to a show, we didn't have time for dessert, but did stay for a little time. No pressure and just enjoyed a little rest. The food came in good time, maybe 10 minutes. They are really well set up. Would fully recommend. Quality, tradition and passion would describe Karahi Indian Cuisine.

We are visiting from Germany and have now been to this wonderful Indian restaurant for the third time – and once again, we were absolutely delighted! The food is super, super tasty and full of authentic flavors. Every dish we’ve tried so far has been fresh and incredibly satisfying. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome every time. As a lovely gesture, they even gave us a small portion of rice to take home for free – perfect for the next day! The prices are very affordable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. All in all, a fantastic dining experience. We’ll definitely be coming back again!

Great Indian place spot. Got a take out for Chicken Coriander and matar paneer. Both the gravies were simple, not too oily and nice taste. Quantity is more than enough for two. Prices are decent too. Also got a Samosa chat, the chat I would say was very average. Would suggest getting main courses here instead.

$14 for a filling lunch special is a great deal! I Just with that I was full for 6 hours. Service was good and the bathroom was cramped but clean. Am looking forward to coming again if I am in the area.

We chose Karahi as our Friday evening dinner date and so glad we did. We ordered vegan dishes which Karahi has a large menu of selection. The foods were deliciously homemade full of flavors. Generous portions & affordable too. At first we thought we should order more but the owner insisted that the amount of foods we ordered would feed a family of 8. He scaled down the order for us. Mango lassi, samosas, vindaloo were delicious & wholesome. The atmosphere very clean, calm, inviting. The owner himself serves on everyone in the restaurant. He is very down to earth and full of humor. Highly recommended to everyone and can’t wait to come back to this hidden gem for more good Indian cuisine.

Best Indian food in Hell’s Kitchen. Do yourself a favor and walk 50 feet south of the fancy Indian place with better marketing that will charge you a fortune for a small dish that doesn’t come with rice. Owner is so kind. Lunch is literally $13.95 for a curry, rice, and basket of naan. I asked to pay extra for some lamb in my veggie curry, and he wouldn’t accept my money. Did I mention it is FANTASTIC food?? Please keep this place open

J

This place is a hidden gem. The lunch special was really worth the price, and the owner gave us free refills on the garlic naan and the rice! I would definitely go again.

J
Jyothi Nair

My partner and I have dined in here twice because we love the food so much. The Karagi Gosht is a MUST. I’m iffy about lamb but this meat was so soft and flavorful, it’s become a new favorite. Chicken biryani and spinach paneer are great too.

M

We eat a lot of curry at home in the UK and this was up there as one of the best in our opinion. Great owner who couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating, great service and the prices aren’t too shabby either! If you fancy a curry in NYC then this is well recommended :)

Karahi is my go-to favorite Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. Run largely by one man and a kitchen that continues to deliver even in those rapid-fire nights where everyone wants to order out, it's consistently delicious. The naan is served fresh and hot, the papadum browned just barely around the edges, and even the simple rice on the side is cooked with cumin seeds, cardamom, whole cloves, saffron, and way more care than your average spot. If you have time, there's often room inside to sit and eat in person; the majority of the traffic is ordering to-go, or delivery people picking up their next orders. I have a fond memory of a evening when a wide bowl of rice pudding was brought to me, like a good friend enabling you by serving up ice cream after bedtime. It was delicious, and the owner offered to refill it, though I was beyond full. When busy, bring a grain of patience; despite often being thr only server, the owner gets to everyone, and the kitchen is ready to go to make up for any brief delay. It's worth it, and most of the time I'm there to decompress anyway, so it's relaxing to take everything in.

M
Mrityunjay Sharma

Great host. Good Indian food. All regular option. Host is very accommodating with some customization. The only Indian place I saw with unlimited supply of rice.

V
Viktoria Pryshchepa

The food here is absolutely amazing! Every bite is packed with flavor, and the chicken is simply out of this world. The mango lassi is hands down the best we’ve ever had — we’ve tried three different Indian restaurants after this one, and this one surpasses them all. On top of that, the customer service was exceptional.

M
Mehul Goel

I adore this place. Every dish so fresh, so flavorful. If you know how to eat the Indian bread with a curry, you’ll appreciate the softness of the bread This place comes to mind everyday for someone to whom eating Indian food feels more home than my apt

T

The food is really delicious, well spiced, and there are options which are a novel take on some traditional Indian cuisine. Great value for delicious food. I loved the mushroom saag and the chicken tikka masala was quite delicious too. The salmon vindaloo was pretty good too, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about the novel tomato-y taste of their take on the vindaloo. The service is quick and very friendly. The atmosphere could be improved, but it isn't bad or anything. Overall a great restaurant for a quick, delicious bite.

Seriously delicious Indian food - best in the neighborhood by far. Everything is fresh and flavorful, even the chutney is made in house. Warm and comfortable space, the owner is a gem and so hard working. Local favorite for sure!

Excellent Indian food. Service and hospitality were also excellent. Atmosphere was very cozy. All of the food was great but we really liked the garlic shrimp which had an incredible sauce we couldn’t stop dipping our naan into. If we’re ever back in town, we’ll definitely be back!

$13.95 lunch special is unbeatable and unheard of. The best part, quality and quantity of food was delicious. Family owned restaurant and the father is in the front of the restaurant serving his guest for a delightful experience. He deserves more love for what he gives to this restaurant. I ordered delivery from Karahi today (the evening of the big snow storm in January 2026). It was one of the few restaurants open and still delivering. Despite the terrible conditions outside, Karahi delivered my order on time and the food was piping hot and delicious! I’m thoroughly impressed. If they can maintain such a high quality of food and service during a storm - when most restaurants decided to close or suspend delivery - I can’t wait to order again under more normal circumstances. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Best kept secret, amazing spices, flavors and textures. Large portions, walked away stuffed. $13.95 lunch special, which included rice and naan. In an area where there are many choices, we are SO grateful we chose Kahari. The owner waited on us. It was a friendly, quiet and calm setting. Most of the clientele were Indian, which is always a good sign.

I ordered the Chicken Malai Tikka and Shrimp Biryani and trust me it was really good. The shrimp biryani came with grated almonds as garnish and it tasted really good. The service was amazing. The only improvement area could be the portion size of the biryani as I felt it was a bit less for the price you are paying. But, again it is NYC and we understand 😂.

We’ve been here twice since moving to Midtown and it’s our new favorite. The atmosphere is warm and peaceful— you forget you’re even in NYC. There’s soft music, warm lighting and a highly attentive staff. Our food both times was excellent. My partner and I leave feeling not just full, but nourished. We appreciate the team and we’ll definitely be frequenting this place!

Went there a couple of years ago and had a great meal and promised myself a return visit. Finally made it back last week and was not disappointed, portions were very generous but unfortunately I have a low salt tolerance and had to take away what was left. Was great next day though! Courteous and attentive staff.

I used to order from here all the time but have lately been disappointed. The portions are big, but everything is a little oilier and more bland than it used to be. If this is an inflation thing I wish they would raise the prices and keep the old quality. My vindaloo today really missed the mark. It’s usually a fiery, vinegary dish but theirs is like.. a typical lamb curry? Not spicy and very tough.

Decided to give this place a shot while walking on 9th Avenue. Been to few Indian spots around and wanted to try a new spot. Walked in, the place was completely empty around 6pm. Host greeted and sat us right away. My friend went to the bathroom to wash up, and came back and told me it was disgusting in there. I was already thrown off, we still decided to stay. I looked at the menu and ordered some prawn appetizer and a tandoori mixed Grill. For the price of the prawn appetizer, it was a rip-off. Paying 12$ for 2 pieces of Large Shrimps. The tandoori mixed Grill was a good portion and priced right. Then decided to order the main course , we got the Seekh Kabab and Chicken Moiley paired with garlic naan. Chicken Moiley the gray was good but the chicken felt like they just threw it in there. It was totally bland the chicken pieces in the gravy. Overall I suggest go across the street to Badshah, that's just my opinion. Ambiance - 7/10 Service- 10/10 Lunch Special - Yes Delivery - Yes To the Owners , please maintain a clean environment. If the bathroom is dirty , I can only imagine the kitchen.

It pains me to write negative reviews, but the food here simply wasn’t it. The lamb Rogan Josh was flavorless and the lamb tasted old and rock solid. The naan was extremely soggy and the rice was unsalted and hard. It was also relatively empty on a Saturday night where every neighboring restaurant was packed. I hope they were just having an off-night but I personally won’t be back to find out.

Hannah W

I never thought Indian food could be "flavorless" until we visited this restaurant. It seemed that everything was pre-made, like in a lunch buffet, and kept warm by some means, before turning up on our table very quickly after ordering. Regarding the Mushroom Saag - the saag (spinach) was obviously too old, as it had turned brownish green, with raw button mushrooms callously folded in. Bhindi Masala is one of my favorite Indian dishes, but what was offered at this place was surprisingly bland. Both dishes were lukewarm, which made me suspect that they were not freshly made. Although we were really hungry, we barely finished half of our food. The two stars go to the Papadam and the Roti, the only items that didn't totally disappoint. No wonder there were so few patrons, as the restaurants we wanted to go to had long lines out the door. The bathroom was not very clean, the table felt sticky, and we regretted our choice.

I had very high hopes given the other reviews. Unlike others I did not have an authentic Indian food experience. The street view of the restaurant is a little off putting but we went in anyway. It’s is a long narrow space with one man waiting on the tables. He was friendly enough but not much of a talker. We placed our order for the vegetable sharing platter butter chicken and lamb rogan Josh. The butter naan and the papadums were very good as was the dip. The entrees were gelatinous in texture and low on authentic flavors.

Have had a lot of indian food around the city. Heard good things about this place online, however was disappointed when it came to the food. First off the dal makhani did not have much flavor, secondly the chicken tikka masala was very sweet and teh chicken was hard, lastly the butter chicken was pretty decent just was underwhelming.

The owner was very rude. We were deciding what we want to have for 5-6 mins. Then we asked him some simple questions about the food. He gave us a lecture on how to order and said "you can order whatever the hell you want to order". We just quickly had the aloo paratha we ordered and left without ordering anything else. This is not how you treat customers if you want your restuarant to run. And the aloo paratha DID NOT taste good at all.
