Opinions de Yakitori Yuchan Davis
I got the brussel sprout vegetable donburi for the first time at Yuchon Shokudo, and it blew my mind! It was a tasty flavorful dish and the brussel sprouts were amazingly soft and melted in my mouth. All the vegetables very well cooked and sooo tasty. I was amazed. I really like their curry katsu dish and chicken katsu donburi is 🤌 everything is spectacular. They have an option to get white chicken meat as well!
Delicious ramen! My husband and I came in search of good ramen and were not disappointed. I got the spicy tan tan which was just the right amount of spice in a rich broth with thick noodles. My husband got the pork ramen I believe? He also enjoyed his. I will say it’s not cheap but it’s well worth it for how good it is.
A very cozy little place to grab delicious hot ramen and Japanese snacks! The calamari was fried beautifully and seasoned so well that it didn't even need any sauces to go on the side. The Tan Tan ramen was so creamy, full of flavor, and delightfully filling! I also ordered the jelly sake, which was interesting to drink, as it had clear lychee flavored jellies in the drink itself.
Every time I go the food is amazing, the staff is great and in all great experiences. Pork Roast Curry is my favorite.
This might be the most consistently excellent restaurants I've been to. I've been here ~10 times and sampled most of the menu and I've never been disappointed. Their katsu curry and donburi are unbeatable and a go-to when I order here. I would say their take-out is as good as the food you get when you dine in, which I think is rare among restaurants. Also notable is their service. Alan and the other employees are always friendly and welcoming and seem to go out of their way to improve the service here. If you can only visit one restaurant in Davis I would make it this one. I would give more stars if I could!!
This is my favorite spot for getting ramen in downtown Davis! The service is fast, the staff are friendly, and the food is incredible. I'll always keep coming back!
Always passed by this place for years in downtown Davis, but decided to try it out on Picnic Day 2K19. They were quite busy as everywhere else was, but we managed to get a table within 3 minutes of waiting. The restaurant really captures a Japanese atmosphere. We ordered the takoyaki, and spicy gyoza. Both were great appetizers, but I wish the gyoza was pan fried (no big deal.) I had the tan tan ramen, and loved the presentation/ spiciness of the dish. My friend had the mentaiko-soboro Donburu, and loved it too. The staff were extremely friendly and diligent on providing excellent service. I would highly recommend this place for the ramen too!
Really good food and despite the full house the staff worked quickly to get everyone served in a timely matter, and were never rude. I thought the food was a bit pricey, but the serving sizes they give you are huge and I couldn’t manage to finish my meal. Great place though!
I went here for my birthday yesterday and had a wonderful lunch with my family here. You pay ahead of time very much like when you're in Japan. It's quick and more efficient that way, in my opinion. When we ordered, the server offered to comp my drink since it was my birthday and I really appreciated that! He was great and attentive throughout our lunch. Our food came in an expedient manner and it was aesthetically pleasing as it was delicious. I was given a smiley face in my ramen which was almost too cute to eat! They had a comfortable ambience and everything was very clean. I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion.
Googled top places to eat in davis california this one was in the list. Dec8ded to give it a shot and it didn't disappoint. Prices were decent, about 20 a plate/bowl. Taken was fantastic. Added extra egg half. The curry was also great!. Atmosphere was good and I personally enjoyed the music selection. If ever back to davis ill have to go here again
Yuchan Shokudo has some of the best ramen I’ve had! The ordering and seating process did not take long and it was nice to order at the counter without worrying about the check at the end. The atmosphere inside feels like a perfect cozy place to enjoy your meal and the service was prompt and friendly. After ordering, it did not take long for our food to arrive. The takoyaki had the perfect texture and the octopus inside was delicious. I ordered the shoyu ramen and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The chashu was rich, the broth had layers of flavor, and the noodles were perfectly springy. The tonkotsu ramen was equally delicious, especially with the notes of black garlic and spicy kara-miso to cut through the creamy broth. I am looking forward to our next visit and would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for quality ramen and Japanese food in Davis!
One of my favorite places to come for a lovely dinner. Last friday at the end of the month, they do yakitori and it is delicious.
This is my third time here and I am so in love with this place. There is something for everyone in your group and the vibe is one of the best in Davis. Allen is always very welcoming and helpful with the menu and drink choices. You can tell he is very passionate about his work and that’s the kind of place I want to keep coming back to. Best gyoza in town by far. Don’t stop at the entrees, get some apps! Squash fries are so good! The servers are very nice too. Good music. There is a new special every time we’ve been here and we have always left happy.
So good. My friend had a ramen craving and she said this really hit the spot. We walked in and were warmly welcomed. You order and pay first before being seated. The employee was very kind and clear with the menu and made sure we had all our questions answered. I like how they have the normal menu along with special items with pictures and descriptions so you know exactly what you are getting. My friends got the ramen and I got the chicken katsu curry plate. The plate is actually massive (can feed two people) and was around $20 so you are definitely getting a good portion for what you paid. The curry was beautifully made with great flavor, accompanying the thinly perfectly fried katsu with juicy chicken in between, all combined to eat with the warm rice. Even though this is mainly a ramen place, they went above and beyond with this katsu.
So good! We'd been craving ramen and had walked by the night before and noted the menu! So glad we went in tonight. Ramen was super flavorful and the jammy egg.... Mmmm! Husband and son loved the pork and we all cleared out plates! Staff was welcoming and explained the menu really well.
Great food, friendly service. Wonderful addition to Davis' food scene. We had ramen and chicken appetizer, and both were great. Sake selection is quite impressive for a ramen spot, too. Loved our servers, they were very busy but always found a moment to see how we were doing, and to get us whatever we needed.
Really good Japanese food that has a general menu and a dine in menu . You order at the counter before being seated. Excellent flavors and rice/soup is complementary and can be refilled at any time
Incredible ramens , spicy tantan is our favorite place to come in Davis. You walk up to the register, order and pay for the foods, then you get table, eat and then leave. Staffs are really nice and friendly.
My first time here and I judge my ramen restaurant by the taste of the broth that the ramen comes in ( I got the Tan Tan ramen) and I have to tell you that this has got to be one of the most flavorful broths I've tasted outside of the Bay Area. This restaurant may have become my favorite ramen restaurant in the Davis area... nah, maybe in the Sacramento area. My wife had the Salmon shizo Donburi and that was fantastic as well. The creamy sauce that was drizzled over the salmon pieces that covered the rice was just comfort food. I highly recommend!
The extra-spicy tan tan ramen is very tasty and has a lot of veggies and meat. The fried chicken and brussel sprouts are also delicious.
Spicy 🌶️ Tan-Tan Ra-men is 🔥 lit. Perfect mouth numbing experience without being insanely hot. Reminiscent of Szechuan mala spice. Great umami and pork flavors come through. Highly recommend. Staff is always hustling. 👍
One of my gotos in Davis. You order and pay before sitting down, but I didn't realize it's a legit sit-down so I didn't tip much :/ sorry! Ramen is one of the best bowls I've ever had for only $20. My favorite soups usually are more plain and don't have a ton of different or fancy ingredients, they're just good ingredients, well-balanced, and cooked for long enough. This wasn't too salty or thick and I didn't get bored from the taste. Noodles had a good bite, pork was tender and had enough, not too fatty. Larger portion size. It always has a bit of a wait but not long (5-10 mins). Nice interior with dark stained wood.

Solid selection of Japanese food! Good rice bowls and ramen. One of, if not the best Japanese restaurant in the area.
One of the best authentic Japanese restaurants I have ever been to in the states, I live 8 years in Japan and I can tell you this place hits the spot.

Truly delicious. My favorite was the spicy mentai-men (a la mentaiko pasta). The seafood butter sauce was so flavorful, the noodles perfectly al dente. Pork chop pepper curry rice was delightfully curry, nicely crisp fried pork chop (nicely fatty).

Our first time here Sunday evening after trying their wait list through Yelp; our party of four was 2nd in their tablet queue but didn’t know we had to actually check in with a live person, so it took awhile to be seated. The soonest table for 4 was located in front of the drafty door in the bar. Most of the food was excellent including the duck skewer. The grilled avocado had some black spots that I scooped out. The garlic chicken thighs were a real treat as were the duck breast skewers. The creative house-made walnut mochi cake was non-dairy, much to my delight. I’m sure that their uneven service will be better when the place isn’t so packed. I’d like to try their cold sake and other unusual small plates next time.
This place is very popular on the weekend also there weren't many seats inside so you may need to wait for more than 30mins. The price of dishes for takeout or dine-in are same, so you can try takeout as well. The menu was different than a couple years ago, which has less choices. The Katsu don was delicious, but ramen was just okay. The staff is very friendly.

Great food, decently fast service once we got in. The payment at the register before being seated was a bit unusual for a first time as it is hard to judge how much to pay as TIP until we are done with a meal and have a chance to consider the service. If there is a line, processing at the register can take a long time. The printed menu was not aligned with all the available items which is a shame if you want to try something that looks great after you have placed an order to dine in.

The staff was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Felt like a family run business, which I liked! I didn't realize they weren't serving Yakitori when I visited, disappointed. So I got the pork donburi and Brussel sprouts appetizer. Both were good, but just not my cup of tea. Dont think I will be back. (so sorry) Very cute place, I liked the bar surrounded by upside down bottles, very clever!
It did appear quite busy when we arrived, so we assumed it is a local favorite, plus my Japanese coworker had recommended this place to try, although it was under different ownership last time she was here. This isn't your average sit-down restaurant, as you do order and pay before being seated, which we have no complaints regarding. The Takoyaki was delicious, although lukewarm when served to us, so we had to start eating it quickly before getting cold. Getting into the main courses, although the quality of the ramen was to our satisfaction, we couldn't get over how pricey and small portioned our food was, having only been served one slice of pork, and half an egg in my bowl. I personally do not plan on coming back, as I know other places which serve larger portions at a much cheaper price. Perhaps it's due to location (Davis)? Not entirely sure...
the food was average and expensive. We were 2 people and ordered a calamari and only 1 main dish and it cost us 40$ without any drinks. I was hoping for much better. The workers were very nice and friendly. Overal its average. Its nice to try.

Honestly, kind of disappointing… the food was rather monotone and uninteresting, especially for the price. We got the katsu curry and fusion carbonara. Maybe the ramen is better? I’m fine with ordering at the counter but suggesting a minimum 18% tip when you haven’t even tasted the food or experienced any service seems a bit much to ask… our waters weren’t even ever refilled…
I’ve been coming here for a long time and I was surprised the ramen didn’t include an egg, since most ramen I’ve had — especially in SF Japantown — comes with one. I understand toppings can be optional, but charging $2 extra for a plain boiled egg felt disappointing. A seasoned ramen egg would have added flavor and made the bowl feel more complete for the price. The ramen itself was good, but this part of the experience stood out. I guess the owner doesn’t feel the egg is necessary for the dish. Also none of the serves came to check on refills or how everything was.

Although the cuisine is pretty fair, their business practices are not so good and makes the restaurant and owner(s) come across very cheap and careless how they may come across to their customers. I ordered a $15 Ika (calamari) dish which contained 6 small pieces, which made the dish $3 for each piece. Quite a lot if you ask me. Once at my table, I asked the server if my dish comes with a dipping sauce? She replied, "Yes, you have a choice of Spicy or Regular Garlic Mayo sauce". I chose Regular Mayo sauce. Once my dish arrived, I noticed that there were no sauces. I asked my server, who responded that it does not come with it, but for a $1 I could get one. So, I gave my server $1 and thought that was it. Well not quite!!!!! My server came back and said I forgot to include the tax!!!! and the price is now $1.18. So I gave her an additional 25c and to keep the change. Well not quite over yet!!!!. My server came back and asked for 3c more because the total price is now $1.28. I told her that I could not believe she came back for 3c???? She insisted that I must give her an additional 3c which I did not have in my pocket and therefore one of my guests gave her a nickel. The unfortunate bottom line for these practices is that the restaurant put its reputation on the line for a lousy $1.28, but more importantly for the additional 3 cents by coming back to my table and asking for it. My recommendation is to ask questions at the time of the order and to read the menu carefully, which says the sauce is an extra $1 and do not take for granted whatever the servers are telling you. Food for thoughts, no pun intended.
I noticed that WWII-era Japanese militarist newspapers are embedded into dining tables without any historical context. Given the history of violence and suffering associated with these materials, this made the dining experience uncomfortable and concerning.
Whoever the waiter was there today (1/24/2026) around 1pm - very rude and unaccomodating to families with little kids. Made sure we will never come here again.
This used to be a great spot but the quality has really gone down in the last year. They either changed their process or lost the head chef. Food is absolutely mid but you pay a premium for it. Also none of the specials have a price on them until you're paying. Kind of scummy tactic.
