Opinions de Trattoria Alpina Dossena
An almost basic place, but perhaps it's more accurate to call it traditional and downright typical, in the most positive sense of the word. You won't find hyper-modern decor or a personal tablet for ordering: but a place that exudes tradition and with people who know their craft and do it very well. Few dishes, but each one better than the last. Casoncelli, penne with sausage and mushrooms, and a cutlet with chips (for the little ones) that didn't even require a knife to cut were all top marks. And the platters of cured meats and cheeses that passed by were a temptation that, had you had the space, you should have tried. The service was very prompt, and the bill was more than fair (€42 for three with water, beer, and coffee). Not exactly a quick stop, but if you're in the area, stop here.
Excellent lunch. With casoncelli gnocchi and a platter of cured meats and cheeses, they sat us down even though it was a little late, very kind and always smiling, polenta taragna was delicious, the owner kindly gave a portion to take away to my nephew since he had eaten a deep plate of it by himself.
A bit hidden, but definitely worth a try. Very fast service, and you can choose from starters, main courses, and side dishes, but if you want to experience traditional cuisine, you have to order the main course—it's amazing! Pizzoccheri, polenta, and venison stew. The atmosphere is a bit dated, but clean, and the service is good.
The place is informal, with plenty of tables and local patrons/workers, and a slightly rowdy atmosphere, but absolutely enjoyable without being bothersome. It's a simple trattoria, but the food was excellent, truly excellent! We ordered two tourist menus consisting of casoncelli, braised beef, and taragna polenta, a quart of red wine, water, and coffee for €20. There's also the option to order à la carte, but honestly, we didn't feel the need. The lady who welcomed and served us was really kind, the place was clean and bright, as were the restrooms (there's even a changing table available). We even got a discount on the total because we only ordered one braised beef. Reservations are recommended! We didn't know you could buy the lactose-free cheese produced locally and aged in the mines (which I recommend visiting both for the guided tour and the speleological/adventure park)... It's a shame because we would have taken advantage of it!
A beautiful place, very welcoming. The local cuisine is very good and the wine is quality. Huge platters with cheeses and cold cuts so good I didn't have time to take a photo 😂. Polenta with mushrooms is delicious, I recommend it 👍👌. The pasta and pizzoccheri too. Enjoy your lunch everyone!
We visited this restaurant on a Monday, where we could choose between the tourist menu and the worker menu. We tried both, and all family members enjoyed it. The cheese is excellent. The pasta dishes…
Found this place thanks to Google Maps. Easy street parking, free of charge, within walking distance. The menu is limited (four platters, a couple of first and second courses, and desserts), but everything is local and delicious. The miner's cheese is surprising. Friendly and quick staff, classic but well-maintained atmosphere. We didn't have a wait, but many tables were reserved. Recommended if you're in the area.
But ona
A lovely, rustic bar and trattoria. Upon entering, you'll see enormous spritzes, typical Umarett cocktails with white wine, and more. The charcuterie and cheese platter is spectacular, with excellent bresaola. I'll post a photo of the finished platter because you have to try it. The cheeses are delicious and award-winning. The casoncelli are average, very buttery but not very rich in sage and pancetta. The staff is courteous, friendly, and approachable. A good selection of local wines, but I recommend the house wine to help you settle in. Nice place and a wonderful view. Arrive early, otherwise you won't find a table. Francoli limousine for a quick digestion. A must try.
Nice staff, good small food, very clean.
The fact that it's crowded speaks volumes about the pleasantness of the place. Located in front of a beautiful view of the valley, and astride a road junction, it has parking both outside and a little further along. The house wine is very sweet (and thunderous 🤣), but the casoncelli are not even remotely homemade, unfortunately. So I don't recommend them. The pumpkin and asparagus rice suffers from the lack of flavor from the pumpkin, but then again, the quality of the raw material isn't always attributable to the buyer or the kitchen. No complaints about the delicious rabbit: plentiful, well-cooked, and of good quality—something that in the city is only an increasingly vague memory of a bygone era (Sunday's Polenta and Rabbit is a regular!) The hospitality was commendable. But finding yourself with supermarket ravioli on your plate, like casoncelli, is truly a drag.
We arrived around 1:30 pm and there was nothing available from the kitchen. The atmosphere was dated but clean. We ordered some cured meats on a good quality board, two types of cheese (nothing memorable), and a salad without tomato because it had run out. No dessert available; we ordered water, two ice creams, and a soft drink. The bill was very high: €65 for 4 people. There was no cover charge, just a fork and not even a knife. No tablecloth or paper napkin. The young woman was kind, the older lady, perhaps the owner, was really cold and at times listless. What left us speechless were the two cooks who left the kitchen and laughed without saying goodbye. Everything needs to be reviewed. The only thing worth saving were the cured meats, even if they were expensive. What a shame, an unpleasant experience.
We ate little and badly, nothing special... the polenta taragna seemed like it was made in a bag... well, in places like this, you expect something more. The price was decidedly high for what you get. Not to mention the unprofessional and rude manners of one of the waitresses, probably the owner... I don't know. Highly not recommended. You can write whatever you want. I repeat, we had a nice table and everyone wasn't happy... Terrible experience for us. Review the staff, prices, and food quality. If it was a bad day, then I'm just happy for you. I work in the restaurant business too, so you can tell me whatever you want. I hope you enjoy your work.
I was there a few months ago (May). I had lunch: 1) flavorless casoncelli, 2) roast beef with potatoes, tough and overly flavorful, and greasy potatoes. If this is the welcome Dossena offers, with its Tibetan bridge and mine tours, and the many tourists, it's time to ensure high-quality products and have a chef with a capital C.
I stopped by during a bike ride. The outdoor tables are lovely. However, after waiting in vain for 15 minutes, I went inside. I asked for a sandwich as listed on the menu, but was told they couldn't make it because they only served lunch. A bad experience, as tourism requires paying attention to detail and meeting the needs of all types of customers.
I'm sorry to leave a negative review. We were at this place a few years ago and wanted to return, but we weren't happy. Rude staff didn't even want to give us the menu to look at the prices. Spritz was water. The cheese board and the greetings were too few. There were 3 of us, and they gave us 3 slices of each cold cut. Prices were too high and portions were small.
