Opinions de Whiski Rooms Edinburgh
There are two separate rooms: one for drinks, and another for food and drinks, plus a dedicated area with souvenirs and liquors. I was there to eat, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The service was good and fast. If you want to try local food, the haggis spring rolls are a must! They were delicious, flavorful, and fresh. For the main course, I ordered the Beef Scottish Pie, which was an excellent choice. The meat was tender, juicy, and served in the perfect portion. You can choose your side; I went with the mashed potatoes—not the best, but still good. I’ll definitely come back for some drinks next time!"
Lovely dark atmosphere with plenty of interesting decor to catch the eye. Good drinks and food choices with matching recommendations. I had Steak Pie, Chips and a medley of veg. with a huge pastry top. 8/10, too much pastry and chips not hot enough. Gravy was great, lots of steak, crunchy veg. and highly evocative of childhood mealtimes.
I had an awesome meal at Whiski Rooms in Edinburgh and would totally recommend it. I went for the lamb, and it was cooked perfectly — super tender, full of flavour, and honestly one of the best I’ve had in a while. For dessert I tried the cranachan, and wow… it was amazing. Sweet, creamy, and packed with that fresh berry flavour. The place has a great atmosphere too — cosy, lively, and very “Edinburgh.” Staff were friendly and made everything easy. If you’re looking for a tasty Scottish meal in the city centre, Whiski Rooms is definitely worth a visit!
We had a great dinner in whiski rooms. We took a scotch eggs as a desert which were really good. All three of us took a haggis. It was delicious. The sauce was one of the best We've ever tried: light and tasty, the whiski used in it was really good. And finally we took a cranachan. A great finish to this amazing dinner !
What a great time. Service was top notch. Sophie, Navada and Angela were just wonderful. Made us feel very welcome and laughed at all our stories & jokes (loose definition 😜). I would definitely recommend a visit. We had the goat’s cheese and 3 way salmon started followed by fillet steak and chicken. Can’t rate them highly enough. All praise to the chefs. Followed by “to die for” espresso martinis. Tom cruise doesn’t have a look in 😍
We dropped in for a drink here after stumbling across it by chance and we are so glad we did. The venue is beautiful - inside and out and looks and feels super cosy. The decor is stunning too. The staff were so nice and welcoming, accommodating us without a booking. The drinks list is very good and reasonably priced for the area. We wanted to stay all night. The food looked amazing so we will definitely be trying that next time. Thanks for making us feel so valued - we will be back.
We spent all afternoon in the Scotch Room being attended to by Ignatius while watching the 6 Nations. Ginger Bella’s are awesome for those who prefer non alcoholic beverages. I on the other hand recommend the Gin Fizz. Thank you ‘Iggy’ for making the Calcutta Cup win even more awesome!
Get there early if you can, like 6PM or earlier, at least on the weekend. We walked in just after 5:45 and it was a bit empty but shortly later, people were being turned away or wait was 20/30 mins. Call and make a reservation if you can. Food was amazing. We had the haggis spring rolls, hubby had the steak and I had the scotch Steak Pie. Toffee pudding and toffee ice cream. All delicious. The vibe is really nice. Service was good. Kitchen got backed up a bit for dessert time but still had a great time.
We visited on Sat 08th Nov 2025 as I had a Cheese & Whisky tasting voucher as a birthday present and we decided to make more out of it by having lunch before the tasting. I confess to having been slightly apprehensive that given the location it would turn out to be a complete “tourist trap venue”, the very opposite was the case, an excellent welcome, service, food and experience from start to finish with reasonable prices given the very central location. The staff are very efficient with greetings and welcoming as you enter, no hanging around looking for tables etc. The ambience is superb with stunningly tasteful décor on a whisky theme of old advertising posters etc.our table was good for people watching and gave a good view over Princes St and the Xmas set up. For lunch we both had the Chicken & Avocado sandwich, this was truly excellent a good sized, very light and fluffy Ciabatta with plenty of nicely warm juicy grilled Chicken, Avocado slices and mayonnaise and a generous portion of fresh green leaves on the side. Our side of chips was freshly made, crisp on the outside and fluffy indoors – definitely moreish! We rounded this of with decaff coffees, nicely sized, lovely flavoursome coffee which is not true of many fresh decaffs. Drinks – we restrained ourselves to fresh orange and lemonade with a whisky/wine tasting to look forward to. The portions and settings we saw heading for other diners looked generous and very well presented. The tasting itself was an exquisite example of hospitality, professionalism and attention to detail. We really appreciated the alternative of arranging to provide wines for my wife who doesn’t do whisky, these complimented the cheeses beautifully, full marks to the chap who made the selections. We did call in beforehand and discuss if this could be done. This was an experience to remember and savour and that goes for the cheeses as well, the portions of which were not mean. The four cheeses, all sourced from IJ Mellis consisted of Cheddar, Isle of Mull Cheddar, Connage and Strathearn Blue, these were beautifully fresh, served at spot on room temperature and were good sized portions. They were paired, in order, with Glencadam (very light), my favourite Tomatin (rich sherry notes), Glenallachie (Robust!), and the Kilchoman which being islay was fairly Iodine on the nose but only very slightly on tasting and just on my tolerance. They did a superb job on the wines, a Hungarian? Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot and lastly a Hungarian Tokai dessert wine which we are definitely going to try and track down, again these worked perfectly with the cheeses subtle and robust in turn and beautifully balanced for flavour. Eleven out of ten to Becky, three days into the job and on her first tasting who did an excellent job of describing the cheeses and whiskies and is an absolute walking encyclopaedia of history and knowledge on the distilleries the whiskies are from, the stills and the production and science of whisky, all presented in a friendly, informative and informal way. Thoroughly recommended as a venue just for food or for a tasting – we now have an excellent additional venue to go to with visitors.
Whiski Rooms is my fav place to eat, I always recommend it to people. The food is delicious authentic Scottish cuisine, amazing haggis, fish and chips, lamb, Scottish salmon and their Scottish whisky tastings are great with a expert explaining all the whiskies in detail around the taste, mouth and nose! The cocktails are also amazing, best whisky cocktails around! I highly recommend whiski rooms to everyone especially if you want great Scottish food, whisky, cocktails, and it has some of the best views in Edinburgh for sunset!
This is a comfortable spot really close to the Royal Mile. We had reservations during the Fringe Festival - not sure how busy it is at other times. The service was friendly and fast. We started with a Speyside Whisky Flight paired with a Scottish Cheese Board which is a great way to kick off any meal. The Haggis Spring Rolls were hot and had a great dipping sauce. The Scottish Salmon and Fish & Chips were excellent main courses cooked to perfection. Lastly, the warm sticky toffee pudding was mouth watering! Definitely a great place to relax, chat, and eat some wonderful chow. Update December 2025: Still excellent food and service. Still highly recommend!
Ella was a delight. Very personable & helpful with suggestions for our inquiries of places in Edinburgh. The Parmesan Truffle Chips were excellent. The atmosphere was very nice and we had a view of the Sir Walter Scott monument.
I read that this restaurant served one of the best haggis in town, so I went there for lunch. It was really delicious, but I thought the portion was a little small for the price. For dessert I chose a Stick Toffee Pudding and it was divine, a generous portion.
Really nice restaurant with good food and good service. My server Yuki was amazing, and the dessert incredible.
Fantastic experience! I was very afraid of this place as it seemed posh, but on the contrary. They were extremely welcoming, explaining all the whiskeys. If u are not an expert, want a good tasting experience, i could only recommend. The cost compared the things u taste is perfectly balanced.
This was a great find. If you like whisky, this is a place for you. Great selection and a choice of different whisky's selections to try. Both the Haggis neeps and tatties and Scottish Salmon were both amazing. A real gem, would definitely visit again.
We had a wonderful dinner experience here. All dishes we ordered were tasty. The scotch egg and the Whiski Rooms salad were both nice. Salad sauce was quite special, and the vegetables within were fresh. My friend and I ordered Scottish salmon and venison rump for main courses. I especially loved the venison rump. The meat was tender, flavorful, seasoned really well. I also liked the caramelized cabbage and carrot that came with the venison. I enjoyed the blood orange cocktail as well. Service was great, and the restaurant had a cozy atmosphere. Overall a highly recommended place for some Scottish cuisine.
We tried cullen skink and Scott pie there and they were both perfect. The atmosphere felt elite and staff was friendly too. Definitely recommend the place if you are looking for delicious food and drinks
The ribeye steak was the juiciest most tender and tasty steak I’ve had in ages. The chips were crispy and fluffy inside. Peppercorn sauce delicious. Whiskey offering is vast and the staff very knowledgeable.
Our evening at the Whiski Rooms was wonderful. We had a lovely server, Navada, who was attentive, kind and went above and beyond with our toddler. The food was delicious and the place was clean and luckily quiet. 100% recommend this place and will be coming back in the future.
Excellent! The food portions are big and diverse. Everything was delicious. The service was very attentive and the atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and warm. Even though we did not have a reservation and only had limited time to eat, the staff kindly left us in and did not pressure us at any moment.
We stopped in after seeing the Edinburgh castle for a meal and I’m so glad we did! The peppercorn chicken and mashed potatoes were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. Our server Sophie was a warm welcome from the windy Royal Mile and a long day of sightseeing. Would definitely reccommend!
Navada and Stacey helped us have a fantastic evening in Edinburgh. Very attentive and friendly with the service. The vibe of the venue is cozy and great for an intimate dinner for two. The food was fantastic as well, some lovely Cullen Skink and the Haggis stack was so tasty. The lamb so well done and tender. An excellent evening. Thanks. 😁
Very well presented restaurant with a glamorous looking interior and bar of traditional design. This was my first try of haggis with a haggis and beef burger. The meat was really nice and I'd be inclined to come again. It's a fair price for what you get with the quality of meat and triple cooked chips as I tried. The haggis spring rolls are also very tasty, although I felt £12 for three was a little expensive and difficult to share between two people. Aside from that this place is nice for a treat and good for functions. Clean toilets, a vegetarian menu section and a wide range of drinks adds to the great view from the windows too. We didn't order desert but the tables near us did and they looked excellent 👌 Well worth a try.
We stopped off here at the whiski bar and had a lovely meal for 2. We had the salmon fillet and the house burger. The salmon was a very nice treat, and the burger was top tier, the chips were very nice. I will say however the pepper sauce was £4 extra, which was a lot considering we already ordered a lot of food. Also I think some of the staff could have been a bit nicer and welcoming, as I sometimes found they didn’t even want to help us, and if they are including a service charge for a party if 2, you should at least make the customers feel like it’s deserved. Overall would recommend however
The spritz selection was fantastic. I had the Wee Berri Spritz. It was very tasty and refreshing. Our server knew the menu well and was attentive but also let us relax and enjoy the time. The only reason I gave a four star in food is because the chicken was a little heavy in sauce and had 1 mushroom slice in a dish advertised as roasted chicken with mushrooms. The salmon three ways was delicious and the dessert divine! Definitely get the whisky pairing with dessert. I would return for sure!
The food was tasty and there was a wide selection of drinks. However, both food and drinks were a bit overpriced. They asked for a 10% tip on the total bill, which we felt was quite a lot — and unfortunately, the friendliness disappeared after that
If you’re looking to dive into the world of Scottish whiskey, Whiski Room is a must-visit spot! As someone who’s not a whiskey drinker, I was skeptical, but their impressive variety of Scotland’s finest made it an adventure worth taking. The first sip? Pure fire—think burning rubbing alcohol, no sugarcoating it! But paired with some grapes and cheese it turned into a surprisingly fun experience. The staff was breaking down the details of each whiskey in a way that made it engaging, even for newbies like us. After the first two shots, the burn mellows out, and it’s smooth(ish) sailing from there. If you’re looking for a lively, educational, and slightly bold taste of Scotland, Whiskey Room delivers. Highly recommend for a unique night out!
Large group of us for a prebooked set menu lunch. Unfortunately seated at 2 tables (14 of us). Food was good. Tasty and generous portions. Restaurant was busy and lively. Only thing stopped it from being 5 stars all the way. The service. I know we were a large group but we were polite and very well behaved , the service from one particular Waitress was really poor. Not to do with timings or anything like that, it was run like clockwork, but she clearly appeared miserable in her job. She was snappy and bordering on rude. Never cracked a smile. We all picked up on it. Hospitality may not be for her. Shame as otherwise lovely.
Mid-range pub food. Not awful, but not spectacular, either. For my husband’s birthday dinner, I felt that we could’ve done better, although he was at least happy enough with his steak pie; the beef was tender, covered by a flaky pie crust lid, and the chips were crisp and toothsome—possibly cooked in beef fat. However, the carrots, which were described as honey glazed on the menu, were actually boiled, so they fell short of expectations. I ordered the cullen skink, which was okay. The taste and aroma of the haddock was very present, and it was also very salty. I wish they had diluted the soup and balanced the flavours better. As well, the existing photos on Google Maps show the cullen skink served in a larger bowl, which was not what I received. It’s possible that the dish was once upon a time a main rather than a starter, but on second thought, given how salty it was, I’m glad it wasn’t that large of a portion. I felt very dry and dehydrated after my meal. Really cramped seating, too. We pretty much shared a table with a large group.
Booked here for boxing day. Very limited choice on the menu. Ordered the Steak Pie which had a lot of rosemary sprigs, to the point where it was like eating food with large splints. Whoever supplies the pie ( I say pie, but it was just a pastry lid) needs to ensure they remove as much as possible. No cheese board available on either desert or starter. Looked for something traditional and left very disappointed. The staff where pleasant, however the manager didn't apologise for the pie, and stated that how it comes, however this was too much ( I've attached a picture do you can be the judge of whether or not it was acceptable.
I am not gonna be too harsh, but it took a while for the staff to notice me and pass me a menu. The most questionable thing which gives me doubt is an award winning haggis being served in under 5 minutes. I would like to wish it is fresh. It is quite pricey as well for its portion.
The starter with goat cheese was absolutely amazing! The rest of the food (salmon and venison steak) was a bit underwhelming compared to the expectations : nothing too special for the price paid The whiskey flight was interesting but should’ve probably rather just taken a single nice whiskey glass Overall, a bit underwhelming experience and prices a bit more expensive than rest of Edinburgh (about 120£ for 2 people for 1 starter to share, and 2 main dishes); nice staff
We had our lunch in this pub. We ordered Scottish Salmon dish. It comes with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Visually, the dish was looking absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed the fish and it was delicious but the mashed potatoes was not that good. For the price we paid for this dish, we don’t think it was worth it. The pub has a nice atmosphere. The service was good and the interior was nice too.
Not sure where all the good reviews are coming from, we made the mistake of trusting them. The staff was rude, acting like our presence there was bothering them. Had to squeeze through some boxes that were in the middle of the way to the toilet which was filthy. Regarding the food, the cheese board is a joke, £15 for three tiny pieces of cheese that were completely normal and bland. We also ordered the olives with confit tomatoes and we got a bowl of olives with red peppers. The cullen skink was half cold and had clearly been microwaved, and not a single piece of fish in it. This is a tourist trap, sad we wasted our only dinner in Edinburgh here.
