Opinions de Old Town Coffee & Chocolates Eureka
I always come here to study on the weekends. They have amazing coffee, wifi, power strips for laptops and chargers, and lots of sitting room. Great place to chill, work, study, hang out and more. The baristas are super friendly. I love their cold brew, but they are famous for their mochas!
Love Old Towne Coffee & Chocolates! We are from the city, but visit every time we are in town. My 2 little ones (2 and 7), love to pick out a sweet treat (caramel apples, and all the chocolate dipped treats are favorites). The staff has been very sweet and helpful each time we stop by. It's a perfect stop for sweet treats and a delicious drink-for both kids and adults.
Excellent coffee shop with fast and friendly staff. In house roasted coffee beans make for some of the best coffee in Humboldt County. Great pastries, treats and in house made chocolates too!!! Excellent spot for chilling, studying or people watching.
This place is wonderful and there is not a thing I dont love about it. The people are very nice. The building is historical and the atmosphere totally has a nice old school coffee shop feel and has great music, wifi and games. The coffee, chocolates and teas are sooo delicious. I highly recommend a trip to this place while in Humboldt. Especially on a rainy day! Really is an uplifting place.
I'm a Disneyland cast members. So I know the importance of customer service. While visiting my sister we came across this coffee house. The tall young man dark hair man who worked behind the counter gave me a lesson on coffee and the effects of coffee on your body and how to stop the jerters. He was the first who took the time I was in Eureka who to actually take to me. I want to say thank you to Max ( I believe that was his name) for making me special.
Great variety and friendly experience shared to ensure you get exactly what your tastebuds are craving. First time visiting Eureka but I'll be back for more the next time I'm coming through. Always love to support local!
Delicious pastries and the espresso drinks are perfectly made. So many options for flavors too. Donuts mmmmm! Really comfortable and varied seating options available for all folks. Didn’t get to use the bathroom, but seemed like a single stall kinda place.
Great hot spot in Old Town Eureka. Spacious and enough room to feel like you have some privacy. They have a large selection of sweet treats and some nice coffee to compliment the whole place. They also display local artists painting on the walls. Nice place to hang out.
Since moving our office to Eureka I have been regularly going here. Things I enjoy, the Latte, Chai with Oatmilk, and the vegetarian wrap. They have good food and great coffee. It's worth trying out if you're visiting, and if you're a local, support local, this place makes it worth it! Also the lines are never crazy, parking is always available in the morning, and service is friendly and fast.
I love Old Town Coffee and Chocolates. The service is great and the shop is beautiful and unique and the baristas are always friendly and knowledgeable. I have tried just about every drink and have never been disappointed. They roast their own coffee beans and make candy and fudge and its a fun shop to stop for a coffee and goodie or to order one of their delicious chicken wraps for lunch. If you are a local or just passing through town I highly recommend you check them out.
Wonderful, warm and cozy place to have coffee and out if this world delish muffins and other treats! Great acoustics for conversation yet has a calm and quiet atmosphere. Can't wait to stop in again. 😋
This is a very nice place. It has a pleasant ambiance. The staff is friendly and efficient. The coffee smells wonderful. They also have hot chocolate, juice, Italian sodas, croissants, donuts, and chocolate in many forms. They have Wi-Fi, but only for 30 minutes at a time. Other than that restriction it is an excellent place to hang out, meet people, and enjoy the day.
Friendly staf, good coffee, laid back atmosphere. The prices are similar to those of other Old Town shops.
Old Town Coffee & Chocolates has always been my place to go to and work on projects and have a bit to eat 😋 . It has an artist feel of creativity and completion, and after that lost sip coffee, I would take a nice slow stroll to the boardwalk and witch the fisherman come in and out of the boat docks. Awesome 👌
This is my favorite coffee shop! The workers are sooo nice and the food and drinks are heavenly. The atmosphere is calm and warming, providing a great place to study or relax. And the old town building its located in is enchanting! :)
We’ve been here for coffee two days in a row. The coffee is so good! Today we stopped and had something to eat and we’re happy with it. He had a croissant which he said was delicious. I had toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese, good stuff (I’ve had some disappointing ones. Turns out that you can make a bad bagel w/cream cheese).
The fudge and waffles are wonderful and made onsite. The selection of available coffees is diverse and quite flavourful. The staff is extremely friendly and had smiles all around. The Internet was fast, and they had workstations available if you forgot to bring your own laptop. I try to get my breakfast here each time I am in town.
They have always been so accommodating of my ridiculous coffee orders. Ex: A barista once looked at every non-dairy milk they had to tell me which one had the highest amount of calcium per serving. So needless to say, if I could marry a coffee shop, yeah... The white chocolate dipped red vines are probably the best snack in the history of the Universe. Top 10 for sure. Their sweets are the perfect gift for pretty much everyone. Their biscuits and gravy involve massive proportions and are so good you will want another plate despite being full. Great spot, great coffee, great service, and snacks galore!
Love this great old building, so awesome, ,wish it could tell it's story. The bathroom has 1878 in tile in the floor so cool I wonder if it's when it was built. But enough about the building the shop is awesome great munchies and the coffee is AMAZING!
This place has a bathroom (might be the only one in the area), which is great but the ambience and coffee are even better. The chocolate can be pricy, but I love the fun and delicious coffee types they have. It's a super fun area to walk around w friends.
Absolutely love this place! I usually door dash but had the pleasure of stopping in for a drink. I'm sorry I didn't catch his name but the young gentleman working the counter that morning was so friendly even though he was working by himself. He helped me figure out which drink I wanted. I also got a bagel and lox, definitely one of the better ones I've ever had!
Nice atmosphere to sit, friendly staff. I had a salmon bagel with capers and onions which was so delicious, I am still thinking about it! Hot chocolate was one of the finest I had in my life too! Very recommended place. Prices are very fair!
Have been here a few times. Always quick service and good drinks. I have eyed the sweets which look amazing. When they are not to crowed it is great to take a seat and enjoy the ambiance. When they are getting a beverage to go and walk around downtown is a great way to see downtown.
Entertaining tunes on Thursday night open mic, yummy savory foods, smoothies and coffees. We had a Grilled Cheese Sandwich on a jalapeno bagel panini style, tasty Triple Berry Smoothie, really rich and fancy Dark Chocolate Mocha and a delicious chocolatey caramel Turtle. Super positive, friendly and cheery staff! Excellent experience all across the board!
This is one of my husband and mine's favorite coffee places. He loves the ice cream blended drinks, I love the non-dairy espresso drinks (thumbs up on the black and white mocha). You've got to try the biscuits and gravy!! Tastes like mamas cooking. The atmosphere is so comfortable. Gorgeous windows and awesome art!
The staff is always very friendly and helpful! Always fun grabbing a bite or drink from them. A great selection of breakfast food , from biscuits and gravy to a quick bagel, they also have lunch specials and great sweet treats. Not just coffee, also fresh smoothies! The hours are convenient as well!
One of my favorite places in Old Town! Great people, good music. Relaxing area. To me, it's the most feel good coffee house in Eureka. They do have open mic night for acoustic guitar. When it's Arts Alive they have a live band which is a lot of fun. Always had a great warm experience being the coffee house. A must if you are just taking a visit to Eureka. This should be one of your first stops.
Heading out of town and looking for a coffee place. So glad we stopped! The baristas were so friendly and my mocha was delicious!
Boyfriend took me here for a little coffee date, great spot to hang out. Good selection in their little free library. The chocolates were to die for and make for a perfect treat. The tile work in the bathroom is also neat.
The yummiest drink I've had in eureka thus far! Also the staff was so friendly and happy 😊 definitely my new coffee shop stop. ☕️
Had a baby shower here. Scheduled it 3 days in advance. Very grateful they had availability - as I was about to move out of state. Only negative - they didn't inform me I could have started setting up 30 minutes before. I'm pregnant, & set it up myself. Would have been very nice to know! 💖 Very beautiful, cute rental room however. Definitely will recommend! The price wasn't too bad! Size of the room is pretty decent! Perfect little spot. Parking, is also a negative. But it's all good! Made it work.
We stopped by this cute little coffee shop while on vacation. The barista was so friendly and she recommended some seasonal drinks to us. We ordered breve lattes and they were so hot and delicious.
Bagels awesome! Drinks yummy. People are kind, helpful, lovely! Great option!
Stopped by Tuesday morning. Great place to chill a couple of hours and read a book. The coffee is great, the pasteries are great, and what's even better is the staff because they're always nice and friendly. Thanks.
Cute coffee shop with a nice selection of food (enough to make a meal out of it) and a good place to meet with study groups. It is not crowded most of the time, so you needn’t feel bad about staying for multiple hours if you’re in a study group, and you can easily get snacks and drinks to boost your energy while studying. Way quieter than Starbucks, and the food tastes better too. Not as overpriced as Starbucks.
Nicely maintained Victorian building housing espresso and chocolates a block from the waterfront. Tasty dark mocha, though I cannot imagine a light mocha. Very good muffin.
walked in because i could smell chocolate from the sidewalk lol. grabbed a coffee and one of their chocolates and had zero regrets tbh. coffee was smooth, chocolate was way too good, and i ended up sitting there longer than planned. it’s small but it has that kind of charm to it. would def stop by again when i’m in old town.
It's my first time in and my chai latte was a perfect blend of spicy and sweet. There are 2 rooms inside, one has a bookshelf full of puzzles and games which is cool! There's an outdoor covered area which is nice especially since it's sunny today. I guess the only negative thing I could say is that there are no comfy seat options but they might upgrade that later on. Service was great and helpful and fun! They also have coloring books and colored pencils (to buy) if you're interested. Kind of nice to have that available if you spontaneously want to color, which is a pleasant stress relief option.
A+ on all levels! Hard to imagine that this quaint, antique building houses such a great coffee house. Try the white chocolate mocha or the peppermint mocha, both were extremely tasty. The cheese danish was great as well. The mural inside reads "Gather and Enjoy," Old Town Coffee is the best place to do both.
Lost My glasses called them they were very nice. When I ran in they were waiting! Will come back on my next vacation
Trying the coffee as what some individuals may identify my flavor palette as an aficionado, I had a wonderful time with a barista that was very informative describing the variety of flavors and giving the information that the coffee house roast their own brew locally and several times per week!
I started drinking coffee here in 1999 when it was Humboldt Bay Coffee. The atmosphere is great, room to socialize or sit by yourself. Coffee selection is great. The truffles were a great addition. I do, however, miss the Open Mics. They were a great way for local musicians, poets, etc. to catch up with each other, listen to new and old rifts, and Drink Coffee! (and eat.) (And of course, Annie is great!)
The coffee is good and the menu is extensive. I highly suggest you try the chocolates there's a huge selection for all different tastes. I love the location in Old Town and the atmosphere is nice depending on the time of day. Sometimes it's bustling and not exactly relaxing but in the evenings it's very cozy and if you sit by the window there's a view of Old Town. Ham and cheese croissant is a fine breakfast or lunch item. There's a shake called Humboldt Mud when you want a rich dessert that is outstanding!
We are here on vacation and wanted some coffee and the F Street location did not disappoint. The ran out of decaffeinated espresso and went over and above to provide an alternative. They also had a large selection of delicious looking pastries. I ordered a decaf white mocha and it was delicious. And the prices were only slightly higher than large chain coffee shops.
Cute, inviting place to enjoy a coffee and a light breakfast. Right next to the main square of downtown eureka and easy walking distance to many historic buildings and beautiful architecture. Ordered a Mexican mocha and the banana Walnut waffles. Have never seen waffle "boats" like this but great way to serve with toppings. Mocha and waffles were tasty. I think I should have gotten a smaller mocha a I overdid it on the sugar. Beautiful photos on the wall worth checking out. Gets pretty busy so get there early. Sidewalk seating available as well.
Easily one of the very best coffee shops and eatery in Humboldt. They now serve beer and wine! The staff is amazing & the owners are super sweet. The only dilemma with this place are the small handful of regulars that go here every day are occasionally socially awkward people. The small group tends to make the environment uncomfortable. I've been confronted by depressing homeless people, begged for coffee, and been schooled on science CRAP I didn't care about. Other than those weirdos, this is a great place
Atmosphere is exactly what I love in a nice small-town coffee shop, peaceful, relaxing, and warmly decorated. Coffee is good, service is okay. Will be coming again next time I need a little quiet time.
The coffee always has a good kick the staff was chill and the artwork on the walls was interesting to look at. The place was festive during December. I'd go here again to just chill or have a date.
Nice little coffee shop. Wait times are not bad in the morning. Good atmosphere to just sit and enjoy your drink.
Coffee was okay. Chocolate was great.
This place roasts their own coffee. There espresso roast is amazing! Everytime I've been here it has a nice atmosphere. It's the kind of place you can go on a date, take your laptop and find a table, or meet a group of friends.
A very solid choice for coffee in Old Town Eureka. This place has the "standard" features: drip, espresso, various steamed milk concoctions. I especially enjoy that they always have a variety of roasts available, and those roasts are on a rotating schedule. One week it's Colombian, the next you've got a nice Ethiopian available. Food is available here, and I've seen people order it, but I haven't partaken. Looks to be decent, and the prices aren't that steep. Nice location in town, with comfortable interior and exterior seating options.
Great... I recommend this place to everyone. This place is the best business in EUREKA! The Coffee is great, along with the staff. Who are friendly and provide the perfect atmosphere of community friendship and professionalism. Come down to Old Town Coffee & Chocolates were its not just about Coffee or chocolates, its truly about community. If you have never experienced the feeling of being apart of something, this is your place to change that. there is always something going on here, open mic night, comedy improv, local poets reading their writings, etc. It fills up fast, due to only 150 seat(s) availability, so come early if coming for a show. Otherwise, its stays busy throughout the day. This business also supports the community and its pets. Its dog friendly, bring them inside to lay quietly at your feet. Community support come in the form of not only money, but in offering those without a home a quite place to look for work, housing, etc by use of its free one hour WiFi, Donations to local homeless shelters and programs, for a small fee you can rent the larger room for community or business meetings. I know i sound like i work at Old Town Coffee & Chocolates, and maybe i should i spend more time there then at home.... if you see me, mention this review and say hi... i am almost always friendly... lol
Excellent cold brew, and freshly roasted coffee. Great shop downtown with a wide variety of chocolates as well. Glad to see that they roast their own beans versus some other cafes and shops in the area. Worth the stop if you're in the area.
Great coffee and atmosphere. If your looking for a big breakfast, I'd go somewhere else. They have breakfast bagels & burritos for something quick. It's an old brick building and a chilly on cold winter mornings.
We went at the Friday Night Market and if you get anything other than regular coffee you will probably be waiting for a while. We waited nearly 20 minutes. They may have just been short staffed or is it that they are short stationed? That being said, the place is nice, the employees are nice, and the coffee is good. I'm not saying you'll always wait. I'm saying that market nights have a lot of people but the coffee is worth a wait.
Great coffee place in old town. Coffee is superb as well as the pastries. Staff seem a little too cool for school, but goes with the territory.
Old town decor in a relaxed read a book atmosphere. Tie your horse up here and get your laptop out to conquer those 0's and 1's! There is better coffee in town but there is lots of room to sit for hours....and hours. I use it to get my remote work done. Nice that they have outside seating now.
I came here on a recommendation from a friend. Although the service was overall friendly, the girl behind the counter must have been new, because she took my order, but didn't pay attention to my friend standing next to me to take her order. I had ordered their blended S'mores Mocha and a square of fudge. However, the girl did not know what flavors there were, so she took an entire inventory of their fudge after taking my order, ignoring my friend. We waited until my drink was made, which took almost five minutes although there were two girls there, and then we decided to leave, since they still never saw my friend was waiting in line to pay for some chocolates, even though I had moved off to the side. My drink was delicious, but it was kind of ridiculous they never checked in with my friend. Overall good though. The fudge I bought was awesome.
I met with an old friend here. I got an iced coffee and he got a tea, $6.60 which I think was a reasonable price. The service was nice, open and chatty. We were able to sit outside and enjoy our drinks while we caught up. Parking downtown is a bit rough so expect to walk a block or two. Overall it was a nice experience for a reasonable price.
It's a great spot to stop by and have a cup of coffee, I've met some pretty interesting people here too. It's got a warm homey atmosphere in the winter and a pretty good brew. Their prices also are very affordable depending on what you order. Also it's a coffee shop that serves mimosas what's not to love?
I actually really like this place for food! Got the soup and salad combo for $7. Healthy and delicious. They also have great grilled cheese-->Biscuits n' gravy (good for hangovers) -->Waffles! AND their bagels are nice and big and chewy..not like the other bagel place in town...N all of the yummy drinks...only thing is they give you 1.5hrs of wifi...Sometimes I got more work to do then that!
It’s ok. Another café that still serves plastic to-go cups and plastic straws by default, even if dining in. Time to change that bad habit. The space itself is nice but dusty light fixtures, disrepair, confused menu, and disjointed retail layout suggest that whoever once loved this café has long since moved on and left the disinterested to run it.
I used to come to this place all the time in my younger days and loved it. The staff used to be super friendly and the drinks were great. I’m back in town visiting family and took my husband and kids here the other day. The food and drinks are still great, but the service (2/3rd of the staff) is rotten. The guy taking our order seemed so annoyed by us and the girl making my daughter’s waffle also seemed annoyed that we ordered one. If they don’t want to make the waffles, don’t have them on the menu. We felt out of place and not welcome. This is probably a great place if you are just a single person ordering a drink, but I don’t think they want families in there ordering food. I’m sorry my family of four made them work. Don’t worry, we won’t come again. At least we know for next time and will continue having breakfast at Los Bagels where they are always friendly to us.
It's like they don't realize they bought a coffee shop. The new owner put coloring books, magnets, candles, soap, and all kinds of stuff. Blocking the middle where people stand in line. The coffee tastes terrible. The kids who work there are great. They're just doing their jobs. It's just not a coffee shop anymore. 😒 It's a gift shop. I just go around the corner to Ramones now.
Old Town Coffee and Chocolates. Small selection of chocolates, less than enthusiastic personnel. Nothing wrong with the chocolates. The coffee shop itself felt hectic. Not a place I would go for a relaxed cup of coffee. It’s not that it was busy, it just didn’t feel relaxing to me or my companion. To be fair, that could have just been us. They have outdoor seating at the F St. location.
I use to come here a lot in the past and had more care about who they let in. It would be a 4 but my latest visit dropped it. Recent visit had 2 people (whom both have been frequently seen upon my visits) fighting and yelling and no staff to calm or remove the situation. Other guests felt uncomfortable and left in a hurry leaving a negative atmosphere. I get it's Humboldt but there is such a thing called customer care. Aside from that, coffee tastes great and the sweets and food they have is pretty good. All in all, probably best to grab and go or play it safe.
It used to be a fun place to go. It was open until 9ish so you had one alternative in eureka to a bar to meet up with people. But now they close 430-5pm in the evening and looks like a retail store now. Instead of coffee on the shelves, or coffee or tea related merchandise. It's random merchandise. The buildings ceiling is cracked in multiple locations, and is covered in mold and dust. The staff are awesome. The prices keep going up, everytime I visit the prices increase.
Service was really kind. Location was gorgeous. However we ordered two seasonal lattes made by two different baristas. Neither had any flavor at all. Tasted like bitter black coffee. I don’t know what happened. Maybe it was an off day.
Coffee was good, but I went in with my partner and they asked for machiato. The batista then, very pompusly (and rudely) explained that is wasn't like a Starbucks machiato and made us feel really unwelcome.
Don’t go for food here. French onion soup without toasted bread and cheese broiled on top? Get out! Beverages are good
Took out a bunch of the tables and your baristas are pretty unfriendly
Usually a great place that i like going to for coffee or tea. Really good hot drinks, but my partner and I ordered iced drinks in our personal cups today and were super disappointed. Our cups were mistakenly switched, which is normally fine except my cup was larger and I paid for a larger size drink than what was received. Also once we got our drinks the cups were filled to the top with ice and an entire 16oz cold brew was drinkable in 3 sips... I'm also a barista, and there was literally about 6-8 oz of liquid which isn't cool when a customer is paying for more. I totally understand that the amount of ice is a tricky judgment call sometimes, but our drinks were a little ridiculous.
I've loved this place for a while, and had I not gone recently, this would have been a 5-star review. However, the last time I went, the music was turned up to a deafening volume. Quaint red-brick interiors; a cozy and inviting cafe-- or it was, when there wasn't rock and hippy tunes playing at a volume that makes conversation and focusing on work difficult. I came here to get out of the house and do some schoolwork, and regretted it.
If your business hours state 5:30, you shouldn't be closed before even 5
Staff was super nice and friendly. First time in. I enjoyed the patio seating until blatantly Christian music was turned on and played loudly. Didn’t know they were a Christian establishment… Do your thing as a private business I guess, but I probably won’t come back if I have to listen to religious music while drinking my coffee 🥴
Rat feces everywhere; failed two inspections. No thank you. It went downhill since the previous owners sold it to this new person who doesn't know how to run a business.
Man, this place bums me out. I've given this place several chances and they always screw up my drink. If I order tea, they give me some sorta weird latte mix that comes out of a box. If I order coffee, I'll pay the extra $1.25 for coconut milk but it's still dark and bitter like an old witch. Then I get some sorta asinine attitude like I don't know how to order a drink. The chocolate there might be worth it, but I don't eat that; my husband likes the truffles. The only good things I like are the location, the old building that it's in and the local art that is on display.
Coffee, isn’t hard to make. But these people continue to be lazy. Order something on DoorDash? They’ll wait until the last second to make your coffee, seems like no one is actually working over there. Definitely don’t stop here if you’re in a hurry, even if they don’t have anyone ordering coffee, they’ll still be lazy. The last time I order from the terrible service of old town coffee and chocolates.
This place is located in the heart of downtown and while the ambiance is nice the staff was rude. Way overpriced for average product (seriously nothing special). Blondie at the counter snarled at me when I walked up to place my order and was rudely (not politely) telling a patron in line to place his mask over his nose. I spent an entire week in the area and never gave it a second chance, your mileage may vary.
Old town coffee and chocolate is a joke. Only place open here in old Town with a bathroom open during a car show where every other business is closed and they won't let my 4 year old use their bathroom when he is about to pee himself. Asked if they knew of any other bathrooms we could use and were told no everybody just uses their bathrooms. After a few moments of awkward silence staring at them in disbelief I could not let my son use them real quick. I told them that we will go pee in an alley hopefully before he pees on their floor. Old town coffee and chocolate policies are a joke. Never had an issue using their bathrooms during Arts Alive or anything until now.
They used to have awesome grilled cheese and now it’s one of the worst I’ve ever had. The grill turns off mid cooking and they had to turn it on again so it took almost 25 min to order the soup and grilled cheese. Soup was okay.
Ten dollars for a coffee is always going to be a max of 3 stars for me. No way to justify that. The coffee tasted no better than going to Starbucks. It’s a very quirky place so if you like that I’m sure you’ll enjoy it more than I did
They should had a Alice in Wonderland display. Maybe a Hansel and Grettle oven too? At least the previous owners should have.
