Burl - Evanston

This place was better than I expected. Went for a birthday celebration and was not disappointed. I must say the food here is probably the best I’ve had in any restaurant! I was skeptical at first to try carrots as an appetizer but once I tried it I did not regret my choice. The Smokey rich taste is something that must be experienced highly recommended to try it. The service was excellent! Our server Kristina was amazing, very sweet and attentive. She made sure we enjoyed every part of or experience up till we were headed out the door. Very pleasant experience. I will definitely be back again to enjoy the food and services here. 5 stars indeed.

Burl does the local produce to table perfectly, letting the ingredients shine through. Love the open kitchen it makes you feel connected to the food being prepared. The service is friendly and attentive. We highly recommend this new addition to the growing list of great Central Street restaurants.

Burl is just so good. Probably the best food I’ve had in the northern suburbs. Rivals any downtown restaurant. It’s elegant, but it’s also warm and friendly. Perfect atmosphere for date night, special celebrations, Food was delicious, especially the cavatelli, lamb, steak, whipped ricotta. Staff was so friendly. Could not recommend more highly!

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Burl and look forward to returning with friends and family. Our chicken pate on Burl hearth-baked bread was a great start to our meal and went nicely with our terrific cocktails (Gimlet and Lamborghini). The crispy salad was excellent as were our entrees of half chicken and pappardelle bolognese. We couldn’t resist ending our meal with the apple crumble and we were glad we succumbed. The staff at the entrance & at our table were friendly and attentive, and the sleek restaurant with a large open kitchen added to the lively atmosphere. A fun evening out!

Loved our first meal here! There’s a big focus on wood fire cooking and locally sourced produce and protein. It was great being able to watch the chefs work in the open kitchen. Everything we tried was excellent, especially the “for the table” section, the bolognese, and the salad. The apple crumble dessert was literally the best we’d ever had. Can’t wait to come back as the menu changes with the season!

Tried the much-anticipated, newly opened Burl Evanston last night. The service was warm, genuine, and attentive. We shared the liver pâté, salad, chicken entrée, beets, and apple crumble — all were excellent. For a neighborhood that’s been on a long upswing, Burl is a unique and welcome addition that already feels rooted.

Such a great addition to the neighborhood! The space is beautiful, the food is delicious and service felt very warm and welcoming. The eggplant, crispy salad, and bolognese were stand out favorite dishes. Excited to go back and visit soon!

Imaginative and creative and so refreshing in its presentation. A delectable experience and culinary delight. So glad there's finally a really interesting restaurant in Evanston without "attitude."

Great food, cocktails, and service. Just a solid neighborhood spot for familiar dishes (with flavorful twists) executed very well. Looking forward to returning and trying some other things on the menu.

So good I would wear sunglasses at night(nod to the chefs)! Amazing food, great drinks - speed could improve but only a week in progress. We will be back!

Fantastic new farm to table restaurant in NW Evanston. Highly recommended.

The chicken and fish were excellent. If you go, ask to not be seated in the back room (it’s a room designed for private parties). You won’t have a view of the kitchen and you feel like you are isolated from the rest of the restaurant. Service was pretty good but will improve over time as they just opened.

I found everything about this place to be average. Except for the excellent bread! My cocktail tasted like medicine, just awful and I could not drink it. My husband liked his salad and the cabbage was good but not great. We arrived at 6pm and they were already sold out of the fish I wanted. Although, did I really want that dish? It seemed like everything it came with was sweet and I don’t like sweetness in my food. Having said that, I ordered the sirloin and the rub on there had a sweetness to it and that was not something I fully enjoyed. The steak was cooked nicely and I was able to eat it if I had each bite with the pickled veggies that came on the plate to cut the sweetness. My husband reluctantly ordered the fish and chips because we had had beef the previous two nights. Why would a farm to table restaurant serve fried fish when you are trying to highlight beautiful ingredients. It was uninspired to say the least. I did not enjoy the chocolate dessert I ordered either. We will not be returning.
