Opinions de HoDo Restaurant Fargo
Always delicious, unique course offerings, and superb service all in the heart of downtown Fargo! Highly recommend. The brunch selection (which might only be available on the weekend?) is quite delicious and worth checking out! As the end of your meal is ending, make certain to enjoy the gourmet desserts.
Cocktails here are amazing. Didn’t try the food but there atmosphere is what I was looking for on my trip. It is a good place to sit down and catch up with someone.
Upscale, especially for Fargo. A good date night spot. Food is of excellent quality and very flavorful.
This place has the best bison burgers ever! I only wish it wasn't so far away from where we live. Highly recommend going and ordering it.
Great place to eat. Good atmosphere. It was busy when I went there but the service was good, which was surprising since it was so busy. So two thumbs up for that.
Best bison bison burger EVER. The setting is sort of upscale with a cozy lounge ambiance. Great local beer selection and decently priced food.
Great service, gluten free yummy ness, good music, charming atmosphere.
Love this place! The atmosphere is fantastic, creating a juxtaposition of both upscale service, dishes, and beverages with the Fargo downtown experience! Must stop in if you're visiting or become a "regular" if you're staying! I included a photo of my friend sipping on a fabulous cucumber vodka martini made at the HoDo.
Shrimp 'n Grits were the creamiest!
We always enjoy coming here as they have great service, food and the environment is always relaxing. The bartenders really are the best so we always let them get creative!
I love this place. It's great to go here with a friend and grab a cocktail and catch up. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and amazing drinks.
We had an absolutely fantastic time the employees were very courteous and kind and the food was exceptional. If I could I would go everyday and have lunch. I was that impressed. BON APPETITE
Jesus was an excellent host. The lighting and view is great. Rooftop access is a cool perk. The menu is far from dull.
The food is of the highest quality and I would eat here any day. Surprisingly not as expensive as I was expecting and really a great location with a soothing atmosphere.
Super friendly waitress. The drinks were great and I loved the Truffle fries. Nice atmosphere.
We are here for brunch, and the food was incredibly delicious! I had the sausage hash, and it was one of my favorite I've ever had. The wait staff was also very friendly and attentive. Overall a great atmosphere and I look forward to coming back again!
I can't say enough good things about this place. The food was perfect and their bartenders know their cocktails. They are well versed in their mixology and proper use of bitters. My only regret is I didn't get to try more menu items before leaving the state. If you found this review helpful, please like it. Thanks
Enjoyed some local brews and a customized cocktail. Menu was super unique. If you're looking for a unique experience for a more experienced palette, this place is for you. Definitely not a domestic beer and fries place.
Upscale feel without a strict dress code. Drinks are amazing with a massive list of options to try. Staff is always nice and they have great modern entertainers that frequently perform in the evenings.
I always enjoy Hodo when I'm in town for business. Love the atmosphere with eclectic art - and food is delicious and creative too - everything I've had has been a taste sensation. Hodo Winter Salad and the Scallop Appetizer very good. And then there's the cocktails - always an adventure. Fun in Downtown Fargo - something you would find in large cities. Just stopped here for a beverage after a day of shopping and sightseeing. The cocktails are outstanding! We loved the art and the ambiance too. And people watching through the big window overlooking the Main Street made for a perfect afternoon in Fargo.
HoDo is a truly immersive experience. Knowledgeable and friendly staff help steer you towards amazing adult beverage selections, from beers to wines to custom cocktails. The apps and menu choices are also excellent. Given the chance, be sure to check out the quaint rooftop and it's drowsy relaxed views of downtown Fargo. I guess I like most that the HoDo can be a good start to an evening, a whole evening in and of itself, or a great place to wind down.
I'll say 5 stars for Fargo. The food has been consistently delicious since they opened more than 10 years ago. The food scene in Fargo has improved since then, but HoDo definitely lead the way. A little on the classic American fare side as compared to the 'foodie' restaurants in bigger cities. The dishes are executed well though.
Very classy place with custom drinks and a relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere. There are booths to sit in or several little seating areas for groups set up around the bar. They have a full bar and table service. There is one drink, I can't remember the name exactly, with cucumber that is so refreshing that they make here!
If you want a good drink downtown Fargo, The HoDo is one of your best bets. Huge selection of craft cocktails. They usually have 4-5 beers on tap and a dozen or so wines by the glass and bottle. The lounge and restaurant have separate menus, but you can get anything in both sides of the bar. Live music every Thursday :) Happy Hour 4-6pm every week day.
Only place in town with a regular tasting menu. You can choose formal dining, or the lounge; order off either menu. I suggest a more communal experience in the lounge, but order off the dining menu. They source locally (except for seafood), in season, and the menu changes to reflect this. The bartenders know their business, and there's music on the weekends. Crowd is typically thirtysomethings and up, likely due to the price point. Other reviews have noted that they have off days sometimes, but when they are on, and they usually are, they impress. The best meal I've had in Fargo was here.
A Fargo MUST! When you want to go downtown and have a great meal or just a drink in nice spot with Amazing atmosphere, this is the place. There are other places that fit that bill in Fargo, but staying at the Hotel Donaldson (they also have rates for locals!) is a great way to experience Fargo.
I took my wife Michelle here for her 60th birthday. The meal of filet mignon & halibut was one of the best meals we've had in our lives. The filet was perfectly cook so much so Michelle was able to cut it with a butter knife. The halibut had baby potatoes and vegetables in a tomato saffron broth. The service by Payton was exceptional. She was on point with everything. I had the pastry chef, Heather, make a cake special. It was red velvet cake with a butter cream white chocolate frosting. We highly recommend that you get them to make a cake for you. It was far beyond what I expected and the price was great also. Without a doubt as far as we're concerned Hodo is the best restaurant lounge in Fargo and surrounding area.
Always great food. One of the few places to eat out while trying to keep your diet clean and still wanting to enjoy exceptionally tasty dishes.
Excellent food and cocktails. A great place to go if you appreciate quality and local ingredients. A very eclectic and artistic place!
I frequent the HoDo - whether it is for drinks after work, lunch or a semi-fancy dinner where you don't have to get too dressed up. Would recommend the Cucular Caley for a cocktail. You can't go wrong with General Dirty's chicken - it is their take on General Tso's chicken but definitely way more tasty and fresh than what you would ever get at a chinese place and it is served with fried rice.
The HoDo has always provided high quality food and drink. An upscale menu and look, with a casual feel. The dishes are a little pricier, but you get what you pay for. The only complaint I could make is that I've had some issues with service in the past, but it's only been here or there. Today I had the General's Chicken, a classic HoDo dish that I was craving. My food was delivered quickly and it looked and tasted great.
This is my first time in Fargo and my LYFT driver was recommended this place. I’m so happy he did!! I had the Chicken Sammy. One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had! It had an avocado spread that was awesome! The french fries are fresh cut with the skins on and seasoned just right. Not too salty and crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Highly recommended if you are in Fargo!! I also liked the fact they have coat hooks at each table. Something I do not think I’ve seen before.
Always a relaxed environment with good food. The service can be great or indifferent. When it's great this is one of my favorite places in Fargo.
Great food and service. Best cheese plate in town and unique drinks. The band we saw "Heavy is the Head" was great!!! But the music was a little too loud for our preference.
My overall experience was not what I expected, disappointed with the food, service, and venue.
There were a lot of stuck up people there. I took my girlfriend out once to grab a bite to eat and the people there were annoying. The workers weren't at all which was very nice. Good food!
Very nice and chill atmosphere right in the heart of Downtown Fargo. The appetizers we had: crispy pork belly and the shrimp and cake were pretty good. The entrees we had were okay BUT the presentation was mediocre at best. Same for the waitress we had; it was more of an order your food, eat and get out. Will try again in the near future and see if it just happened to be so that night.
I'd give HoDo Lounge 2.5 stars if I could. Recently I visited with three other people, and overall our experience was mixed, not great. The service, in our experience on a Sunday afternoon, was pleasant but rather slow. More than once we and other patrons were looking around trying to figure out what happened to the servers. On to the food. We started with truffle fries and garlic aioli (both good) and sweet potato wedges with honeyed brown mustard (wedges were tasty but soggy, and a meager portion). The bison hanger was good, lean, tender, and well prepared, but a bit pricey for a fairly small steak with nothing but demi-glas that tasted like salty beef gravy, and fries. The pasta carbonara was very bacony in flavor and salty, but passable for sure. The tomato soup was more like marinara than soup, but it was quite tasty. The off-menu grilled cheese was excellent. The vegan special eggplant lasagna was either mediocre or bad, depending on how much you like thick slabs of eggplant. The dish is just eggplant layered with seasoned hummus and a spoonful of tomato sauce on top. Turns out I really dislike eggplant so this dish definitely was not for me. Most of the entree prices are in the fine-dining range, but I'm not sure I'd rate the fare as fine dining. The menu is interesting and there may be better things on it, but I'd recommend having plenty of time if you want to find out. Fortunately the beer selection is decent too. And yes there's a happy hour but not on Sundays.
We ate on the rooftop for the first time and were pretty disappointed. I don't complain about food very often, but we each only ate one slice of the pizza before telling the waitress it wasn't good. To go to a restaurant specifically for its fine dining and get a meal that is worse than a fast food chain isn't a great experience; to go and not have anything done about the food after you let the kitchen know it's bad is even worse.
Food is good, but not as the price suggests. Drinks are very expensive and the atmosphere is somewhat pretentious. I've ordered drinks i've had made all over the place just fine and it was disgusting twice here. (Old Fashioned) I did however like the Marlin appetizer.
Very friendly guys. Food options are amazing and very delicious. I tried their grilled cheese sandwich and it was delicious. I highly recommend this place for quick bit sandwiches and hangout.
WAY understaffed. It took us forever to order anything at this place. The server was polite enough but she was getting her ass kicked. Management needs to wake up and staff more servers during peak times. If staffing issues continue I WILL NOT RETURN.
We sat there for an hour and a half, after we got our drink that was the last we ever saw of our waitress. The place wasn't even busy. I guess not selling drinks is their thing.
Service takes way too long and the server doesnt check your order for accuracy before having someone else drop it at your table. This has happened many times when we've visited here. Bun with a burger when we asked no and dairy based dressing on a salad when we asked for balsamic... Both tied to allergies. I know they are WAY better than this.
It’s my birthday. Reservations at 7:30 meal delivered just before 9. Asked for a bill 10 minutes ago and still waiting. Food tasted good but not for the wait. So sad as made a special point to come and watched quite a few people’s frustrations. One large table went to the bar to get their own drinks after waiting forever. I actually welcomed two couples to try and make them feel comfortable while waiting. I give this place six months or less before it crashes and no one returns. Not what I hoped for.
Had an extremely poor experience on valentines day. We had reservations for over a week. We were then sat in the "lounge" which we found was a "seat yourself area" while waiting for a half an hour to be seated. The waiter came to our table twice during the entire two hours we spent there. The first words out of his mouth were "what do you want?" The Salmon was overcooked and way over seasoned with cinnamon. Overall an extremely unpleasant experience.
My sister, mother and I were in Fargo for a funeral and were looking for a good sit down restaurant. We thought it would be good since it is farm to table. The service was great but the entree's were poor at best. My mom and I had walleye and my sister had a ribeye that was very fatty. The horderve came with 3 very small crostinis but a big sized bowl of dip. We asked for more crostinis and they didn't come out until we were well into our meal. By that time the dip was cooled. We would not recommend this place.
My sister and I were in a beautiful wedding party and we came here after the wedding. My sister was KICKED OUT of this bar because they thought her MN license was fake!! It absolutely was not, she is 26. How humiliating for her, having to leave the bridal party over this. We should have called the police to come check her ID. I would stay far away from this terrible place. Never coming back.
I have Celiac Disease and let the waitress know, then double checked to confirm my order was gf. I ended up getting really sick, ruining the rest of my stay in Fargo. The food tasted good and my husband liked his. They need to educate staff better on allergy information or just tell celiac sufferers not to eat there if they are sensitive. Very disappointed.
Always try to eat at local restaurants when out of town. We ordered the parmesan artichokes and walleye fish in tacos. The artichokes were heavily deep fried in old oil (dark color, rancid tsste). Could not taste the artichokes due to the old oil and heavy coating. The walleye was dry and tough. The shell was so hard that it was not edible. I dont like to give a poor review but had gastric distress and did not feel well after eating less than half. The server did not question why we didn't eat the meal or ask if we enjoyed it.
