Opinions de Sushi Koto Fountain Valley
It was a great experience to have a real taste of Japan. I ordered their crunchy roll and it was delicious. I also ordered their green tea pudding that I wanted to try out, and I devoured everything. I went to Sushi Koto for a birthday and they treated my family member (birthday person) as if they were a special person. The staff are very polite and kind to you unlike some other Japanese restaurants(Not being offensive). I hope much more customers come to eat there. It had a small amount of room but is really worth it!
A hidden gem! Brings the politeness of japanese culture to America! You need to be patient when ordering and waiting for the food, as they are often very busy. One item is enough for a person, don’t order too much! (We ended up having to pack half of our food for takeout) and price is very cheap for such fresh fish.
My favorite chirashi restaurant by far. I've tried couple places but this hits the spot. It's not trendy, pretty modest decor but the food speaks for itself.
I’m from out of town and found this place in the long stretch from LAX to Lake Forest… one of the best finds. Great food & service. Try the Pop Corn roll !!
One of our favorites for chirashi bowls - fresh fish and well balanced combinations. Nice family run feel. They have holiday buffets that include variety of Japanese dishes, fresh sashimi and nigiri. Basic tasty fresh Japanese sushi. No frills. Nice service.
Sushi Koto offers an amazing dining experience with fresh, high-quality sushi and a wide variety of menu options. The pricing is friendly, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to provide great recommendations. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for both casual meals and special occasions. Overall, Sushi Koto is a must-visit for sushi lovers looking for an authentic and memorable experience!
You know it's a good sushi restaurant a nt when you're the only person in the restaurant who isn't Japanese. Super good, but a bit on the pricey side for a hile in the wall.
The sushi here is absolutely delicious ! The bowls are worth the price. The cuts of different fish are thick and there's no weird aftertaste. The staff is attentive and very polite.
This place is popular locally, and food was very fresh and delicious! And you can’t miss all posters about Mr. Otani, the most famous baseball player😊 I’m attracted to order a chirashi don with his name, also ordered bentos, other popular ones. We shall go back again for lunch if we are around.
Great place for a quick lunch. The fish quality is great with a reasonably pricing. Sometimes the wait can be long. I love trying different options they have.
High quality food with some more rare authentic options I don't see at most Japanese places.
Girlfriend lives in Japan and saw the Ohtani don on the news and told me to try it! Went around 5pm on a Friday and it was almost empty but restaurant started to fill up around 6pm. Servers spoke Japanese and English. They were very friendly! I don’t even know what was in the bowl but everything was delicious (even the shrimp and I don’t usually eat that). Pieces of fish were big and texture was so soft and smooth. It came with shrimp head, miso soup and a dessert. Never had shrimp head before, server recommended it fried. Texture was like chips. Dessert was pumpkin pudding. The pudding and shiratama were not that sweet but with the red beans and whipped cream 😮💨. Spent around $35. Really satisfied with my experience here 👍🏼. Would even bring my girlfriend and her family here!
The chirashi and ohtani don are meticulously crafted masterpieces, with fresh ingredients that burst with flavor. The attention to detail is extraordinary, from the extremely kind staff to the cozy ambiance. With an impressive menu selection, this hidden gem is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts and lovers of Japanese cuisine. Not to mention the awesome decor that honors Shohei Ohtani!
The food here is always delicious! My favorite place to get chirashi bowls! My go to bowl is the Hakodate Don but honestly, all the bowls are good. It just depends on what you’re feeling or what you like. The eel is also really good too! Customer service is always very friendly. Great place to order Togo from too!
Their chirashis are rich with tasty raw fish and are worth mid 20 dollar price range. You will be full. Also some bowls provide desserts - pumpkin pudding and its really good.
My friends who are OC locals told me about this spot and I am so happy they did. This restaurant serves fresh, delicious sashimi. Tried it once before and now I always think about coming back. The quality of sushi Koto is really unmatched. Service is always pleasant. Always so welcoming. The sashimi here is the star of the show

By far one of my favorite restaurants for authentic sushi in OC. However, last night they seemed to be experiencing a hiccup with the rice as it wasn't the perfectly cooked, I-can't-stop-eating deliciousness that they usually serve. Hoping it's a one time snafu as I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town.
Decent food, okay portion, decent size restaurant, server on the older side but polite, plenty of parking.
Taste :4.5/5 Environment: 4.2/5 Service:4.3/5 Sushi Koto in Orange County is a home run for sushi lovers! Run by a Japanese chef who's a big baseball fan, especially of Shohei Ohtani, this place is a real grand slam. The atmosphere will transport you straight to Japan, and the variety of sushi options will have you feeling like a kid in a candy store. It might be a bit busy on the weekends. The fresh ingredients and preparation make it clear why this place is a hit with locals and visitors alike. So, if you're in the mood for some top-notch sushi and a taste of Japan right here .
Came here on a recommendation and liked it but I think there are better places. It's certainly good but I would not say great. Best thing I thought was the poke hand roll which really was not how I expected (poke mixed fish) but was large pieces of fresh fist. Service is great, very attentive.
This is one of those times where doing a review presents some dilemmas! The sushi was excellent and the other dishes on the tables around me looked delicious also. There is no doubt the chef's take great pride in their food. The problem is the price. I had two sushi rolls and a beer and it cost me nearly DOUBLE what I've paid at every other sushi restaurant I've tried. This shouldn't be a deterrent but a warning. The food is excellent and worth trying. I will definitely go back to try some more traditional Japanese dishes. I had the Crunch Roll and the Salmon Philly roll. Both were excellent. The restaurant has a very authentic feel. The service was super efficient and friendly.
Good, tasty sashimi and attentive service. Bento box has some interesting selection. My choice of Ohtani din is ok. My husband enjoyed his omakase sushi (#2), and that is a pleasant surprise.
6.14.24 Fresh food and busy place. Potion is okay.. seems a lot because of the small bowl. Price is a little higher than other places but doesn't seem to bother patrons. Over all... Good sushi place to visit.
Where have I been?!?!?! 😳😳 The quality of their fish is no joke and the price point is honestly very great for both the quality and quantity ♥️ I order the Ohtani Don and OMG IT IS AMAZING! 😝✨ The sweet shrimp is amazing, the toro is amazing, everything in this bowl is just amazing HAHA! Not a fan of the slimy white thing (which is said to be yam) in the bowl, but everything else is soo delicious 🤤. They will ask you if you want the shrimp head to be fried of cooked in the miso soup. The salmon bento is just ok tho, nothing special 😔 Truly one of the best chirashi restaurants I've ever been to. Can't wait to go back!!
Fantastic service! Had a really nice “Omakase” nigiri set for dinner and all the pieces were spot on. Great tasting fish. Uni and roe tasted how they are supposed to. This is the best sushi spot I’ve eaten at in the Fountain Valley area. Highly recommend ordering the omakase or the chirashi bowl.
The sushi was really good although maybe a dollar higher per roll than what I think it should be for the quality. The service was just average. It is almost 5 star for me. The vegetables felt very fresh.

I came here for a nigiri sushi lunch. This restaurant is close to my dentist and he used to recommend it. The service is excellent. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered scallop, chu-toro, engawa, a hand roll, sweet shrimp. Some of them were good and some were not meeting my standard but it was a good effort. I think they may be limited by the seafood materials they sourced. I would probably not come here again for sushi but next time maybe I will try their cooked offerings.
If you’re short on time or have a party larger than 4, skip this place. We weren’t told anywhere on their website or Google profile that reservations were required for groups over 4, yet we were lectured by the waitress for not calling ahead. Despite arriving when the restaurant was mostly empty, they refused to combine available tables and made us wait until an occupied one cleared. Service was slow and unaccommodating, even after we mentioned our time constraint. We felt rushed, ignored, and unwelcome. The food was fresh, but not worth the stress. We won’t be returning.
Really disappointed with the quality of food & cleanliness considering all of the amazing reviews online. The good: - Service was prompt and courteous. - Not incredibly busy on a Friday night The not so good: - We we're given 2 out of 3 menus. The entree and drink menus. Found out on our way out there was a 3rd menu with all of the sushi options. - The table was incredibly sticky (wiped but not cleaned). I ended up having to use hand sanitizer to clean it myself. Not to mention there was two whole pieces of sashimi under my seat so of course I ended up stepping on them and my shoes became slimy (almost slipped trying to exit the restaurant) - Ordered green tea to start. The tea was fine but was surprised there was an extra charge for hot water. I've never seen that before -Lastly, as first timers we asked the waitress for her recommendation and we were directed to the keto bento box as it had a little bit of everything. So we ordered the keto bento box and the sweet potato appetizer. The presentation was nice enough but the flavor was lacking and didn't taste fresh as you'd expect from other sushi restaurants. Ultimately, we were dissatisfied especially with the bento box since it was nothing different from what you'd get from big chains. I would not recommend nor come back to this restaurant.
Unfortunately after eating here, I've had food poisoning for the past few days. The only thing good was the edamame. The cucumber seaweed salad was sour and the sashimi bowl my friend got was by her account not good and she couldn't even finish it. I tasted some of the egg from it and can affirm that at least was not good. The restaurant doesn't have and atmosphere to speak of and the waitstaff appeared to be very short handed. They kept forgetting to bring my friend a spoon for her miso soup which was also not great. Cannot recommend.
If I’m paying 30 bucks for sushi, I expect the place to be clean — at least a little! The older waitresses gave us water in broken, dirty plastic cups. Seriously, the top of the cup was cracked and gross. Then the food came out in wooden bowls that looked like they hadn’t been washed in weeks. You can literally see the stains! They’re charging $30–$40 and still using cheap, nasty dishware. So embarrassing. The waitresses didn’t even care — like it’s totally normal to serve food in that condition.
