Food was pretty tasty and the resturaunt is super cute. Also my experience going into their bathroom was "ah this is so cute"
I absolutely love love love this space. First of all the owner is adorable, the theme, the vibe, the entire space is so cute and positive! I am a vegetarian and I love ramen, every ramen place I have been to gives really heavy broth ramen, either very creamy or bland. This places serves the best, light on stomach broth, its the only ramen I have had in which I prefer the non spicy option. The desserts are also amazing, mochi , litchi icecream, cheesecake. Everything yum!!
Great sushi roll prices and great tasting Udon and Ramen noodles. I like their rotating sushi serving table and delivery boats.
This recently renovated restaurant has an awesome conveyor belt and great food being spun around on it. The staff also had a small surprise for the whole restaurant which was a delight. If you can't find what you want spinning on the belt, you can also order off a tablet from an extensive menu. I will be back soon and often!
The service has always been excellent, but the recent renovations have taken it to the next level. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about providing a memorable dining experience. Coupled with their delicious sushi and affordable prices, it's no wonder this place is a local favorite.
They recently renovated their restaurant. Love the new more modern feel! Also love the neon color light at the celling. They added a revolving belt now where you can see what you the rolls and sushi first before you take it. I like how the size of the rolls are only 3 pieces on the revolving belt. That way, you can try different types of rolls as opposed to having to finish one full roll. If you are in a rush to get back to work after lunch, you can also get what you want to eat on the revolving belt quickly without having to wait. The sushi were fresh and tasty. The prices are reasonable, not overpriced. The servers are all nice and friendly. The only thing is that it might not be convenient for large parties. Will definitely come again.
I loved it before, and I still love it now. The food is good, better priced than alternate revolving sushi places. I like the Hello Kitty stuff too, though it was a surprise
Their sushi is fresh, and love their hamachi kama, butter salmon!! I also like the revolving style so I can pick anything dish I like. The iPad menu is easy to use but may need help from the owner Peggy. Salmon sashimi is so fresh! I would visit whenever I crave a quick sushi bite! Lunch special 5 dishes$19.95 :)
The staff is so sweet ! I work across the street and this is my go too now ! Thank you for the yummy food 😊
Been searching for a new sushi place since our last one closed due to the chef’s retirement. I love the quality of food here. The owners are kind and will take care of their regulars. Try their sushi to their ramen. I always order an appetizer too. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with majority of the menu.
Loved their sushi, mixed tempura and miso soup. My favorite was spicy tuna roll. Place looks authentic, atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, hostess is friendly and attentive. Specially enjoyed, that each roll had its own filling inside. And it wasn't an imitation crab meat.
Google Maps really doesn't do this place justice for some reason. When you search for restaurants in the area, this doesn't even show up as a dot on the map and you have to really zoom in to find it. We found this place through a Japanese friend of ours who goes there every week(!). The food here is great - and that's underselling it a bit. From the sashimi to the ramen (and oh the tempura...), this is the best in the area and you can't really miss. Do a search for other Japanese restaurants in this district, go to each one, and you'll find that this place is as good and authentic as it gets (incidentally, it's also one of the cleanest which is weird to have to even mention). We know because that's what we did. Not only that, but the chef puts in the extra effort in the little visual details of how Japanese food is usually put together that other places don't even bother with. This actually makes me curious where the chef used to work or train before opening his own place. If you work in the area or find yourself here and are looking for Japanese food, this little mom-and-pop shop is the best you'll find. If you have toddlers, they'll get a kick out of the robot cat server.
Excellent service and delicious food. This was our first coming into this restaurant and we will be back. PS...the place needs a little more lightening. It was a little dark inside.
Papasan Rolls and Bowls is hands-down one of the best revolving sushi spots I’ve been to! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, modern, and inviting. The revolving sushi concept is not only fun but also super convenient — fresh, beautifully plated rolls glide right past your table, and it's hard to resist trying everything. The quality of the fish is excellent — fresh, flavorful, and cut just right. Their specialty rolls are creative and packed with unique flavor combinations, and you can tell they put a lot of thought into presentation. The bowls (especially the poke and ramen) are equally impressive — generous portions, balanced seasoning, and delicious broths that hit the spot. Service is always friendly and attentive. The staff makes you feel right at home and are quick to answer questions or help with custom orders. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality and variety, and it's easy to sample a bunch of different items without breaking the bank. If you're a sushi fan or just looking for a fun, tasty dining experience, Papasan Rolls and Bowls should definitely be on your list. I’ll be coming back again and again!
Tried their restaurant week special for $18.95. It was great! A mixture of sashimi, roll and sushi with a salad, soup and tea. All the fish was very fresh and clean tasting. I suspect they use very high quality sushi. More than the other Japanese restaurants in town At the sushi bar, there is a huge display of Hello Kitty. They also use an automated robot to serve you. The place is small so I would call ahead for reservations. It is family friendly and parking is ample. Highly recommended!
Delicious fresh food. Big generous sashimi pieces. Fast attentive service. Beautiful modern clean interiors. Very family friendly with Hello Kitty decorations. Best Sushi Belt spot in Tricity!!
10/10 recommend! Great quality for revolving belt sushi. Better than the places in SF and very reasonable prices too. The owner was super sweet and the hello kitties are adorable. Didn’t take any food pics but everything was good!! Loved the soft shell crab hand roll.
The Tesla roll and yuzumabai were delicious! It’s easy to send a special request through the iPad; I asked for a seared salmon plate and it came out immediately! So yummy 🍣🤤
A nice fresh change of vibe and atmosphere from the usual. Fresh fish. Clean. Minimalistic/hello kitty futuristic atmosphere. Mellow vibe. Great place to take a date! Each plate rolls on a conveyer belt. A nice variety of options! So much fun! Great experience. Friendly customer service. Fun clean futuristic bathroom. Everything is computerized. If it feels complicated to you there’s a friendly host who will explain everything to you. Will be back!
Great food, with very good service! Thoroughly enjoyed the donburi that we got and the seaweed salad/tuna roll. The lychee ice cream was an amazing way to top off the meal! Update: been here multiple times now since my first review. As usual, great food. I've had the ramen, teriyaki bowls, sushi and have been happy with all of them.
Tried sushi for the first time ever and it tasted great. The potato croquettes were very crispy. Tried the veg tempura rolls, shitake rolls, age rolls, and natto rolls (in order of favorite). Service was relatively fast and presentation of the food in the boat was kinda cool. The vibes inside are aesthetic. would definitely come back.
Food was great and it's such a darling little place with hello kitties! Staff is super nice. The hello kitty plates are a cute touch.
Went here on Aug 17th 2024 for a family lunch. It was nice to have a conveyor belt sushi place in Fremont, but I felt like the style/theming of the restaurant was a bit tacky (and might make it harder to attract long-term customers).
Finally a sushi conveyer belt concept restaurant opened in East bay! Right here at Fremont! They were closed for eight months and now completely renovated. New modern design. Sushi are very fresh. Service are great. Brought my family here and they love it!
We visited Papasan Rolls and Bowls Revolving Sushi Restaurant on Friday for lunch, and it was a great experience. I came here with my wife and daughter, and we were all impressed by both the food, service, and atmosphere. We ordered the Unagi Don, which was delicious, and took advantage of their amazing special, grabbing ten small plates of sushi, desserts, and bites for under $40—such great value! The sushi was fresh and flavorful, and the sakura mochi was a unique Japanese treat that our daughter especially loved. The server Peggy was friendly and attentive, and the cute Hello Kitty amenities added a fun touch to the meal. Highly recommend for families and sushi lovers alike.
There are open after months of renovation. Everything is modern with a conveyor belt and hello kitty decorations. We’ve been going here for many years and the sushi is fresh. The kids love the ramen & the Saba dinner is also great. So happy they are fully open again!
Love their udon! This is my go to when I’m craving for udon noodles.

This is such a nice restaurant to have here in Fremont! I'm so glad my friends brought me here, because before I'd have to go to San Jose, Oakland or SF for a nice conveyor sushi night. Now I can just pop over to Papasan with my friends whenever I want lol

Had the Chirashi. The preparation was good - the balance of fish, rice, and other toppings. But freshness is not as good as a typical local Poke spot where turnover is much higher. Overall, this shop is indistinguishable from local mom and pop shops you'll find in the suburbs of Tokyo. It's not cheap enough to be a great value and it's not fresher than some other options. This is from a sashimi perspective. I might be back to review other dishes like the Oyako Donburi.
Okay, so listen up! I just checked out this new sushi and ramen spot, and it's pretty freakin' cool. They must've just done a makeover 'cause the inside is all clean and white, real simple, but then they've got these awesome lights overhead that are constantly changing colors. It's actually kinda soothing and looks pretty sweet. But the real showstopper? They've got one of those conveyor belts with all the sushi plates just rollin' by your table. Seriously, it's kinda mesmerizing. We walked right in and got a table, no wait at all. The service was quick and easy, no fuss. And the food? Dude, the sushi tasted like it was just caught, super fresh and delicious. For the ramen, they give you a choice of miso or tonkatsu broth. I went with the spicy ramen, and it was perfect – just the right amount of heat, you know? Not gonna burn your face off, but definitely got a good kick. And the flavor was killer. Yeah, no doubt about it, we're definitely gonna be regulars here!
Little hidden gem in Fremont! The chef is apparently from Japan. Service is friendly and food is great. Not very busy on the weekdays. The nigiri come with large pieces of fish and very little rice (I prefer a bit more rice actually). I highly recommend the unagi and salmon nigiri. Also try the Free Mason Roll, which has avocado and seaweed salad in the middle and albacore and salmon on top, an interesting combo I haven't tried elsewhere. Lastly, the katsu don is a good value because it comes with a miso soup and small salad. We finished with the matcha cheesecake, which was not impressive but a good way to end a satisfying meal.

My partner and I came to this place a bit over a year ago before the redesign and enjoyed it. We went to try their new revolving sushi experience today and were pretty disappointed. We came in and were greeted by an iPad that didn’t even have the app open for us to add ourselves to the waitlist. Weird. When we were seated, we waited quite a long time for just our water to come. That’s fine, it was pretty busy but you would expect at least a water jug and cups when seated. Took 8 minutes to get a cup of water. The very small amount of sushi we had from the belt was good, but if you’ll even see any rolls depends on where you’re sitting and who is sitting at the beginning of the belt. The belt came around 6 times without any new items being added. When you go to revolving sushi, you expect higher output. Unfortunately it feels like the customer experience wasn’t very well thought out. You’re able to put special orders in for plates on an iPad they give you. The menu didn’t have any photos which seemed very amateur since you can literally take a photo with that iPad and probably upload it to the menu all with ease. A bit mind boggling. And you need to select the item to get a description of what’s in the roll — no description underneath each section. Just not very well thought out. The waiter seemed completely disinterested and disassociated which is the complete opposite experience we had the first time we came. Maybe it was just so busy, but we didn’t feel very welcome at all this time around. We were happy to leave in a hurry after less than 40 mins of being there. The decor didn’t help — it definitely needs a lot warmer tones added. It feels a bit sterile inside. There’s an abundance of 5 star reviews for this place but I think that has to do with their incentive for a free plate of sushi if you leave them a review. That felt pretty scummy. Overall — we want to see this small business flourish, but the customer experience is severely lacking. There’s potential there and we hope it gets there, but it has a ways to go.
I would say for the price, the food was ok. Though the sushi rice was a bit “loose”, I think they have also remodeled and I wasn’t really feeling it, too edgy and less like a restaurant, the iPad used to place order also wasn’t great and not intuitive at all.
Alameda county flexing fear with local businesses and making small business owners conforming in 2022. Not worth spending money here. 2025 UPDATE: The restaurant is now a revolving sushi joint with less seating. There's only one person serving/taking orders, so please be patient and enjoy the Hello Kitty themed place. Food has not changed since the last review (which I didn't talk about). It's one of the better places for sushi, even with takeout. Again, can't stress enough the one person running the front. Call ahead for seating and takeouts.
Food is not bad, but service could do better. They took my to go order but hung up on me before I could ask how long my order would take. Went to the restaurant 20 mins later and was told it would still take 15 more mins to get ready. When I got home with my order, I discovered that they got one of the dishes wrong and had given me something else instead. I had the chirashi Don. Fish was fresh but I wish the selection of fish was better. It only came with one slice of salmon and hamachi and the rest were cheap/less appealing cuts of fish like tuna and tako. Food is 4 stars, but service is 2 stars, averaging out to 3.
Service was incredibly slow, only one person running everything and food took so long if ordered from iPad. Very understaffed. Not a quick in and out meal. Food is alright. Rice could be better seasoned.
Crab here didn’t have that much mayo in it, but it tasted decent. I like how they allow you to have a free roll off the conveyor belt when you order their lunch specials though!

The sushi is not fresh. I ordered a Toro nigiri and the Toro was falling apart as I was trying to grab it. Same with the buttercup nigiri. Taste was good but falling apart. Ordered a rainbow the white fish has a brown tint. Rubbery texture. Only thing ok was the Unagi but the eel sauce probably masked it. I came here for the ratings and unfortunately, I didn’t have a good experience. Atmosphere is great, cute with the Hello Kitty Decor but I didn’t have a great experience eating the sushi. It’s just not fresh.. I also forgot to mention I didn’t grab anything from the conveyor belt (as those didn’t look appetizing- some were falling apart on the belt and seemed like it was sitting there for too long) I decided to order my the iPad only. Even then, the sushi was not fresh and the quality was not even mid. If you actually enjoy eating sushi and have a good sense of what is quality sushi, I would not recommend coming here. Tbh waste of my money & time.
The food was okay, about a 3.5 I would say. There was not a lot of variety on the belt, and I don’t think I saw plates getting put on the belt - there were just empty spaces. You can order on the tablet, which you have to do given the extremely limited options on the belt. They also had a daily special with five regular plates for a little under $20. The cleanliness is questionable. A fly got into a plate on the belt. None of the servers or the sushi chef noticed. Hopefully, they threw that plate out.. The service was terrible. Over half the time we were there, we could not find a server. I don’t know what they were doing in the back, but it must be important? I think there were two servers. One was definitely in charge of seating and payments. The other seemed to just be in charge of the “train” that brought out drinks and tablet orders to the diners. Whenever we tried to flag the latter down, she would try to get the other lady. Getting our check took over ten minutes. We tried using the tablet, which said a server would be by shortly. This was a lie. We tried finding a server, but couldn’t. The sushi chef wouldn’t look over. It was extremely frustrating.
There are far better places in Fremont for sushi. Ordered a plate of tempura. What came was a large plate with a pathetic amount of very thinly sliced tempura. The sushi was ok. Although a bit over priced compared to other places. Description of rolls is incomplete . I usually see if a roll has the imitation crab as a filler. According to that I order my rolls. All the rolls had that stupid filler krab. So this place is worth skipping.
Food tastes good. Ambiance is great. But they couldn't serve. Conveyer belt is almost always empty. The custom orders never delivered unless you asked the waiter multiple times. They have to fix something in the kitchen, I don't know what it is but there's no food for you to each unless you fight for it. Also the labels are wrong, squid for mochi, salmon for octopus salad, list keeps going....

I was deeply disappointed with my experience here. The servers were quite unfriendly and showed no regard for my time frame. As the place didn't have any receptionist or front desk personnel, I was left waiting at the entrance for considerable amount of time without being provided with any assistance. Then, when I arrived to pick up my food, I had to wait another 45 minutes before it was ready, causing me frustration and humiliation. This behaviour towards customers was certainly a breach of professional courtesy.
This place and it's redesign isn't really good. its white with some rgb leds on the ceiling that keeps running and it's disorienting. the only way i can describe the restaurant is that it's a gimmicky idea that was horribly executed. the rotating sushi thing is a copy of kura but there was nothing on a friday night except some store bought jellies that were over priced. the food was not well made, the rolls were mediocre and overpriced. kura's 3.50 dishes were priced at 5 dollars (4.98) and their specials written made no sense. there is a plethora of hello kitty that was somehow a theme that just made it more head tilting than advertising. the udon that we ordered was 15.xx dollars and it was powdered chicken bullion with 2 greasy shrimps, an egg, and 2 pieces of broccoli that was not even cut well. the staff was not attentive and the blaring trance / techno didn't help this place. there was hardly any people. the only reason this place is 4+ stars is due to the early on reviews from years ago. the restaurant needs to be honest with itself. the tablet ordering and random LEDs along with the white strips felt like this place was a detail shop for automobiles than a restaurant. again the only way to sum this place up is: - gimmicks that were extremely badly executed. - service was slow and not customer centric (no customers and not busy, we had to wait an extended amount of time for any food) - we got the short staff excuse, but there was only room for 1-2 guys behind the counter.... and they were there. - atmosphere was dry and sterile (white leds with white walls glaring at you, with rgb leds overhead running in a trail) - hello kitty all over the place but nothing felt cohesive... quite disorienting - food was mediocre (either overly salted, unripe avocados, badly put together rolls.... and just didnt taste at least acceptable to be over charged for food.
If you want to wait long hours hungry, you can go. The conveyor belt was empty for almost 40 minutes and nothing was added. Orders took over half an hour to arrive. Extremely unpleasant. Worst sushi experience ever. I would like to give zero if possible. Just don’t go.

I don't know how people can rate this above 3. At best this is on par with grocery sushi. Just spend your money somewhere else. We ordered something within the first 5 minutes of us seating in and it took almost 40 minutes to come. The food on the conveyor belt doesn't have a lot variations. And if you order from the tablet, it takes so long to come out. Atmosphere: the restaurant is lit up like a smoke shop. Bright white lighting. RGB led strips on the roof 🤣.
